Tremendous! Very happy with Color Theory.

Susan Yeley

Torlando and his team are professional and personable, and at Susan Yeley Interiors we very highly recommend them for as great painters and people - the kind of contractor you trust to do the work well, charge fairly and be courteous and thoughtful on the job. We know our clients have to feel comfortable living with their contractors in their space; Torando's a guy you would invite over as a friend - and bonus, he paints! Really well! :)

Dan Allen

Highly professional - thorough, organized, tidy, and especially pleased with the conscientious communications. A very well run operation. An altogether pleasant and satisfying experience.

We hired Color Theory to paint two bathrooms in our home. The master bathroom is a difficult space with very high ceilings and a skylight area that needed drywall work as well as painting. We are SO happy with the results. The team did a fabulous job. I'm very particular with things being "perfect" and the finished project was that. They are the best painters we have had since living in Bloomington and we will definitely have them back to do work again.

Amanda Chambliss

Loved these guys. They did great work. Showed up on time, too, and finished the whole job a little early!

Ian Rabensteine

Easy to work with from start to finish. They were very responsive when I had questions and were easy to contact. The crew kept me updated on their progress and did very high quality work. Cleanup was thorough. The entire job was completed within a week of contacting them even though we changed our mind about the quantity of work done after they had started. Highly recommended.

Brian Paulsen

Hired this company to paint several large rooms, with high walls and rounded corners, within our house. The estimate, and final charge, were reasonable. The employees were very friendly and professional. However, what was most impressive was the look of the finished interior! The color was beautiful, the detail work was excellent, and the job was completed in a very timely manner. We would highly recommend this company to anyone looking to improve the overall look of their house or apartment.

We would not use again. Unfortunately, we had a bad experience with Color Theory. In all communication before the job they highlighted how their customer experience was different than other contractors. We had so many issues that I cannot list them all here. They cleaned their paint containers in the grass of our neighbor's yard, smoked on the job (while our doors where open to dry), missed some areas, broke some plants, left equipment on our property over a weekend that was not even going to be used on our job when they continued, did not leave behind extra paint from the job (so we could do future touch ups), charged us for gallons of paint when they only used quarts. When we requested the extra paint they said they would bring it back. Instead, several days later (after continued requests) they brought new paint that had been mixed that day (date on the can) and said it was paint from our job weeks before. We had hoped to use them for other projects but cannot. I have never left a negative review for a business but feel like potential customers need to know that the customer experience may not be what they are expecting.

I must express my utter dissatisfaction with Color Theory. First and foremost, Color Theory's "estimates" are not estimates, they are quotes, even though they call them estimates. The quotes are based on an hourly rate, no matter how much Torlando wants to say that they aren't. There was a huge discrepancy between the actual hours worked, and the amount I was charged (I was charged for twice as many hours as were worked). Torlando tried to tell me that the "estimates" (which he should clearly state is a quote) are based on piece meal work and not hourly. This is utter rubbish, as any additional work is at the same quoted hourly rate of $40 an hour. Either way, none of this was communicated to me beforehand by the estimator (she clearly stated the "units" on the estimate were hours worked and mentioned nothing of piece meal work), and it seems like Torlando made this up on the fly. I was literally charged for twice as many hours as were worked, which ended up being $80 an hour per worker. I only kept track of the hours because I was led to believe this was an hourly estimate. Secondly, if you're like me and want to support local business or hire a local crew, forget about it. Color Theory subcontracts all of their work with out of town (mostly Indy) painters. The language barrier with the subcontracted crew made it very difficult to convey what I wanted done with my house. I'm assuming that's why the painters painted the limestone ledging on a few of my windows, I clearly did not want them to paint the limestone. Regardless, I think any professional painter would have known not to paint the limestone or would have at least asked first before doing so. Torlando has done nothing to remediate this issue and instead tells people on here to not listen to me. Third, I was given no heads up that I would be receiving a call from a subcontracted crew, and when I received the call it was someone who's first language is not English. Due to this, I wasn't sure who was calling me and thought it might have been a telemarketer. Again, I was given no heads up by CT to expect this phone call and was taken by surprise. After all of this, the crew showed up at the house a week earlier than scheduled and with no advance notice to power wash the house. Fourth, the crew showed up at random times, and would sometimes leave for hours without notice. On the last day of work, the crew just left unannounced at 2:30 PM. The following Monday, the crew leader called me and asked if I wanted them to do a walk through. When asked why they left on Friday without notice, he claimed the crew knocked on the door and rang the doorbell which is an outright lie as we were home. They had missed painting a window frame and patching holes that I had asked them to patch, and also painted my windows shut. If they had done the walk through on Friday they would have caught these things and saved themselves a trip. I only saw Torlando onsite one time for 20 minutes, and did not tell the crew over and over that they were doing a great job. I received no follow up with him after the completion of the job to ask my satisfaction or just a general follow up. The next communication I received was my bill. I could easily have received the same quality much cheaper, and with a local crew. I really wish I had considering how expensive CT is and the lack of support and follow up I received. I would advise anyone else to do the same. Torlando says my claims are false but then goes on to give identifying information (which is very unprofessional and petty, which he has since removed), he clearly knows who this is. Please note he does not dispute anything I've stated here, but makes remarks about customers being "reasonable" (again he has removed this remark, I see he is rethinking his comments). Everything I've stated is true, which is why he cannot dispute them and makes remarks such as these. I really wish I had listened to the other one star comments on here and implore anyone else to do the same while spending their hard earned money.

Color Theory did a great job. Ali was easy to work with and we had excellent communication. She was very helpful about dealing with my being indecisive about wall color. Neea and David did a fabulous job painting our kitchen cabinets and the inside of a garden window (which was tricky to do). They arrived when promised and told us what they were going to do that day - no surprises. They didn't waste time and they cleaned up after themselves each day. I see some previous bad reviews here but I can honestly say that based on our experience we are happy and can recommend them. Loving our new kitchen. Thank you, Color Theory

Sounds like Amanda W. (Above) encountered some of the same issues. It was an experience I would not wish for you. Painters did not show up at all when they said they would. Then they would show up on days they didn't forewarn me. I got an email one day saying after their meeting they may be able to come that day. Then did not hear from them for days. Very expensive especially for the quality and service given. A job supposed to take just a few days took over three weeks. I repeatedly told them that I was having major surgery and could not have job done right up to when I had my surgery. I needed time to put my home back together. Due to the pain I was experiencing, I had to take it slowly. The equivalent of two small rooms were painted, and a few cabinets-not many! Having a small living space, I was forced to live in very confined spaces because I was told first thing to push all my furniture to the center of the two small rooms which I did but it was long before any actual painting began. I had to step over things or squeeze between them. It wasn’t a safe way to live that long. My cupboards had all been emptied with contents boxed and stored wherever I could find places for them around my home. I couldn't have people or family over for all that time. It was very inconvenient and difficult to prepare food in the kitchen. My cabinet doors were taken the first day. I never saw them again until the last day. So their contents were not easily accessible for even simple food prep. *Tools were placed on a very expensive piece of furniture and on the dining room table even after I noted this to the owner and left a note for the painters. In fact, it was done again on the same day I removed a sharp object and placed on the floor with the note. I came home and it was on the dining room table. *I have paint drips on an area rug and several places on the floor throughout the rooms including on top of my refrigerator. *When you have to tell the company after they tell you they have finished the job that half of the painted cabinet door hinges were partly repainted and that many of the screws were stripped and left in, then you have your confirmation that the painters are not qualified yet to do this work and at the price they charged to paint the cabinets. You can see the ordinal color plain as day. I thought I was hiring professional painters.

Terrible communication with customers and unclear billing. Will not use again.

Bernie Frischer

Color Theory is a first-rate company. They complete their work on time and on budget. Their painters are polite, competent, and have a good eye for color (useful in those cases where new paint has to match existing paint in the adjacent area). I highly recommend Color Theory!

William Hosea

On time, good quality work, efficient and professional.

Melissa Smith

We had our cabinets painted in our kitchen and Miles did an amazing job! He worked so hard, was extremely professional and the cabinets are beautiful! They truly look like brand new cabinets. I highly recommend Color Theory for all your painting needs. Torlando was extremely professional and great to work with. Ali was amazing as well, came out quickly for the estimate which was very detailed and helpful, she was super sweet and her communication was excellent always!!! Thanks again for such a great job, couldn't be happier!

Terri Stephney

Hired them to paint entire house. Very good communication throughout the process. Excellent results! I really appreciated the color consulting as well. Also had them come for a much needed power wash and they did a great job. Next project will be cabinets, I can't wait!! Highly recommend this company.

Jessica Strattard Hamilton

We are very happy with the work Color Theory did on the exterior of our home. Ali is the ultimate professional and always took care of every detail in a timely manner. I will definitely be calling them again for interior work!

Judy Rosenbaum

The painters, Eric and Miles, were great. The colors look beautiful. Everything was clean and tidy after each day they worked. Very professional. In addition to the painters, the estimator, Ali, was wonderful. Ali is a very knowledgeable painting and wall covering professional. I got excellent advice from her about how to get the shade and degree of color that I was looking for. I very much appreciated working with the people at Color Theory. I wouldn’t hesitate to call them for any other painting at my house.

Derek Wells

Used Torlando and crew for an emergency power washing job in Bloomington. They were fast, friendly, and professional. Highly recommend!

Elizabeth Lindsey

We love the work that Color Theory did in our home!! We will use them again for any other projects and recommend them to others.

Amanda W.

We were really frustrated with the bad communication from Color Theory. It took 2.5 days to hear from them to schedule the job after paying the deposit, even after we called them and left two voicemails during business hours. We had two rooms painted with them by two different painters. The first painter was over an hour late. The room had paint stripped from the trim and got paint on the ceiling and floor. We also had to ask the painter to fill the nail holes in the wall after we saw they hadn't done that after the first coat. We emailed Torlando that evening, Friday, to let him know about the issues with that room and he literally never responded to us. He just asked the painter that finished the other room on Monday to take care of it. She was super sweet and took care of the paint on the floor and the stripped trim spots. We still have paint on our ceiling. The other room had a few stray drips of paint, one on our new curtains, which was a bummer, but overall the paint job looked nice. We were expecting a company with amazing customer service that expertly prepared walls for painting and took amazing care to cover belongings and not make a mess - like their site says - and that's not at all what we got. We could have saved a lot of money and hired someone cheaper for the service we got.

Noel Koontz

Color Theory recently painted our cabinets and we are thrilled with the results. Torlando and his crew were professional and courteous and did an amazing job. They also kept our kitchen clean while they worked so that we were not without that space for the week they were painting. If you have a painting project big or small, Color Theory is the right choice.

Natalie Meador

We highly recommend Color Theory, Torlando, and his staff. The crew that worked on our project were professional, friendly, timely and conversational. Our vision was put into action by Torlando and his crew. Thank you, Color Theory, for helping make our vision a reality!

Susan Savastuk

From the moment Torlando and his apprentice Craig stepped into our home we knew that we were going to be treated with respect and curtesy. We have never had workers in our home who were as professional, thoughtful, neat and quiet as these two gentlemen. We hardly knew they were around. The painting was done to perfection with attention to every small detail. We would rate our experience as 10 stars, they were that good. Our consultant Caitlin kept us in the loop with consistent communication, updates and reminders. We will use Color Theory again and recommend them to our friends and family. Thank you for a job well done.

Teena Connaughton

Color Theory recently painted the exterior of our home. We are very happy with the results. The crew was very professional and polite. They were on time each day. They answered all questions we had as the job progressed and made good suggestions that were appropriate for what we wanted. The price quoted was on target with what we were actually charged. They were very easy to work with and finished in a timely manner.

Jason Lawrence

Did a fantastic job on my place. Did all the required drywall repair and then some, and did an amazing job with the painting, highly recommend.

Color Theory came to my rescue! I had a large family gathering taking place in two weeks and needed help completing a paint project I had started. The very personable Ali Sears came out to the house the next day to give me an estimate to finish painting the foyer/stairwell wainscoting project. It was a very reasonable quote and the best part was the professional and reliable Color Theory team could start and have the paint project done before my guests arrived! It turned out beautifully. Thank you Color Theory!
