I had Robert as my optometrist and he was awesome! super approachable, and very experienced. I learned more about my eyesight here than all of my previous optometrists combined, and I am very happy with my choice in frames. I cannot recommend this place enough!

Just had my yearly exam with Dr. Giles and she did a very extensive exam. I had just fallen and fractured my orbital floor and had concerns about impacts to my vision. Based on Dr. Giles assessment, everything is stable. Her attention to detail is appreciated. A special shout out to technician Brian who successfully bent my glasses back into shape for a perfect fit.

If I could rate "0" stars I would. Northern Virginia Doctors of Optometry is a rip-off. After my eye exam, I was told that i would be charged $119 for the fitting of the contact lenses even after I told the staff upfront that I have been wearing the same brand of contact lenses for years. I intend to stick with it. All I wanted to accomplish through this exam was to see if there was any issues (such as cataracts) with my eye. I was also not given a receipt for the $119 charged. After my exam, the doctor gave me a pair of contact lenses with the new prescription to try. Within 10 minutes, I started to have a bad headache. I told the front desk to hold off on ordering contact lenses with the new prescription because the new prescription gave me a bad headache. The front desk staff told me then I need to return for a new exam and pay another $119. I also brought my son for his eye exam and got him new glasses if needed. All the staff was interested in was to sell me more expensive lenses. He forgot to measure my son for his new glasses. I had to bring him back to the store for measurements before his glasses can be made. Stay away from this business!!!!

I have been a client of NVDO for almost 11 years (Since Jan 2007). I chose NVDO is because they are partnered or associated with TLC Lasik Center where I got my lasik procedure. I am really happy that I've found and chosen NVDO. I first saw a couple of DRs there and ended up choosing Dr. Sparrenberger. I love that he is outgoing, friendly and professional. He makes the whole eye exam experience fun, and he is an experienced optometrist. He is patient and answers all my questions. The check in/out staff and Clinical Technician are friendly and helpful. The Opticians there can be good, depending who I worked with. I am very picky about how my glasses sit on my face. A year ago, Oct 2016, there were 2 opticians that helped me (1 female and 1 male), the male optician is the best. The female one seemed impatient and in a hurry, and she expected me to settle with the adjustments she made. I ended up going to the male optician, who was more concerned with how I like the glasses to fit, and he was more of a perfectionist. After 1-2 adjustments, the glasses fit perfectly, the way I want them to. I feel like he and I are on the same page. NVDO also has a great selection of eyewear - glasses and sunglasses. I love the Kate Spade glasses and the Maui Jim Sunglasses, both prescription, from NVDO. I have a pair of Oakley that I got somewhere else, and NVDO is able to send my Oakley sunglasses to Oakley to have new prescription lenses put in. I am already eyeballing a pair of Maui Jim that I plan on getting next Summer. It takes about 2 weeks for all prescription glasses to be ready. I highly recommend NVDO. If you're looking for a great and experienced optometrist who is outgoing, Dr Sparrenberger is the one for you. As for insurance, I have VSP and United Healthcare. After all the procedures and exam, my copay was $49. The copay hasn't changed in years. I only wear glasses, no contacts. Note that every insurance provides different coverage. This could be a factor for the negative reviews on costs. In the last 10 years, they have never pushed to sell me anything. They tell me if I need new lenses, and it is only if my prescription changed enough that requires new lenses. I like that Dr Sparrenberger is on a more conservative side when it comes to his recommendation.

The staff are very friendly and efficient. Dr. Hope Snively is wonderful and talented. It is a joy to visit the team at Northern Virginia Doctors of Optometry in Reston and I know I'm dealing with the best people possible. I highly recommend this team to everyone.

I have been a patient at NVDO for many years. First in Arlington with Dr. Doan and recently, I had the opportunity to visit the Reston facility with Dr. Deresienski. The front desk and pre-visit team are always wonderful and the doctors take the time to ensure your needs are met.

Dr. Briceno was very nice and helpful, but the office staff charged $100 more than I was quoted for a comprehensive exam with glasses and contact prescriptions. When I made the appointment the staff quoted a price. I double check that it included an eye exam, glasses prescription and contact prescription and they follow up with confirmation that it did and went on to say that the price even included the contact fit follow up appointments. I assumed that would then be the price of the visit. I am sorry if someone messed up somewhere. I would have gone somewhere else. It was great that everyone who saw me for my visit was nice to me (everyone except the women who processed the payment), but I would not have selected to pay nearly twice what I could have elsewhere. If contacts are $100 more, that needs to be stated somewhere before the appointment.

By far the best optometry office I've ever been to - the staff is super friendly, and Dr. Sparrenberger recommended that I try monovision lenses, which give me the crispest vision I've ever had with contact lenses. Katie was a great technician, and I"ll definitely be back to work with the opticians for a new pair of glasses. SO many cute frames!

Since I moved to northern VA from IL, this has been the worst experience ever. If I could rate this business "0" stars I would. There were many hidden fees. The staff was pushing all unnecessary products to make commission. This business is a rip-off. Stay Away!!!!

Outstanding practice!!! Highly recommend a visit here!!! The staff and doctors and opticians are so friendly and extremely professional. They know what they are doing, love their jobs and take good care of the patients. Had my first visit with them today after switching to a new optometry practice and especially so my diabetes and vision could be monitored appropriately with modern equipment and up-to-date physicians. I trust this practice and looking forward to many years of great service. Again, highly recommend you checking them out.

Always a great experience - Dr. Smithson is very thorough and exacting when it comes to vision correction. He detected a problem that no other optician could find and my eyesight has never been better. I wouldn't trust my eyes to anybody else! And Pam found the perfect set of eyeglasses for me!

You walk in and the place is very spacious and CLEAN! I walked in and was greeted by the receptionist who was very nice. I sat and waited, oh I don't know, ten minutes tops to be seen - which is fabulous. I don't remember her name but the woman who did my initial eye test and lead me back to the doctor's office was LOVELY. Her foot was broken, had the cast with boot on top and everything, and she still came to work! The doctor who saw me was Dr. Sparrengerger. He was so very nice and very funny! Very efficient and well educated. My eye sight is not at all bad but he was able to guess where I had my trouble seeing without even asking me (at night when it rains -ONLY). Made the appointment lighthearted and fast. I was expecting a 30 minute check up and I was in and out in 10. Maybe 8. I went to pay and they offered my receipt. They were very straight forward about what my insurance would and would not pay. When I said no once I never had to repeat myself. They gave me a copy of my prescription, no hassle. No one tried to push anything on me; they even pointed out where the cheaper glasses were. When they found out I didn't need any, they congratulated me and left me alone. Dr. Sparrenberger told me to come back in a year for another check up and I intend to!

I have been going to NVDO for many years. Dr. Smithson is very good and does a comprehensive exam. Brian Quinn is my go to person for eyeglasses. He is very good at helping you pick frames that work for you and the lenses have been perfect. Highly recommend!

Had a poor experience with another eye doctor’s lab in Herndon. The experience here was amazing. The selection of frames was three times the size of the other doctor in Herndon. I ordered two sets of prescription glasses here and they were flawless unlike the other doctors office. No scratches in the frames or lenses as absolutely perfect. My co-workers also go here and I have nothing but praise for their work, the lab did a great job! I will do business again!

They messed up my prescription sunglasses... When I went to pick up my sunglasses I told them they didn’t seem correct and asked them to make sure there was nothing wrong with them. They spent all of 5 seconds looking at them and told me that they weren’t messed up and I just wasn’t adjusted to the new prescription. After wearing them for about 3 days and getting splitting headaches I brought them back. Sure enough, after they tested them the polarization was messed up. They were less than helpful when it came to getting the glasses fixed. I would never recommend going here to anyone.

I really enjoy going to Northern Virginia Doctors of Optometry in Reston. Everyone is extremely friendly, welcoming, and helpful. In fact, just yesterday I told one of the sweet ladies in the office that they could give lessons to other offices. They’re just so nice! My husband, my younger daughter, and I all see different optometrists in Reston and we all really like our doctors. My doctor, Dr. Smithson, is absolutely one of the nicest and most helpful doctors I’ve ever been to. As all of the optometrists I’m sure are, he’s very thorough and so kind. I highly recommend Northern Virginia Doctors of Optometry to everyone!

I have been getting glasses here every year for the past 6 years and I highly recommend them. Dr Giles is fabulous and Brian Q the optition is by far the best I have ever encountered. His customer service is always above and beyond. No matter how busy he is, he always spends as much time with you as you need. I have sent many people to him over the years and they are always glad they went. Not only is his expertise top notch but he is also amazing at finding the best look for your individual tastes. I always get tons of compliments on my glasses. A few times when he was out I had the pleasure of working with Pam who is also exceptional. Even if I move away from the area I intent to always return here for my optical needs!

As a patient and customer for nearly 20 years in Reston, this place is focused on a positive exprience from scheduling an appointment through eyewear fit. Great eyewear selection, and they make sure look as well as you can see. I’ve referred friends and coworkers who report the same and are thankful for finding a great eye care team. There is little to no staff turnover which speaks volumes, too.

I’m never compelled to write a review about a place, especially where my family goes go to see an optometrist. We switched here because of convenience to where we live versus the practice we were going to before, but one of the receptionists here has made my experience so uncomfortable that I’m trying to switch back to our previous optometry place. I don’t know if it’s just directed at me, but ever since my first appointment last week I have been made to feel nothing but unpleasantness and anger. People shouldn’t be made to feel like they are unwelcome or constantly in the wrong when they’re simply trying to get their eyes examined. Why the extreme hostility? The doctors themselves are very nice and helpful, but I wouldn’t come back here just for the extremely unfriendly manner of one of the women at the front desk. I hope this does not happen to the other patients.

First things first, I don't have vision insurance so I have to pay out-of-pocket for all my expenses. This place definitely made sure that my bank account wasn't left crying. Considering the fact that I showed up almost an hour late for my appointment( I swore my appt.was at 1130am even though the reminder that I never bothered to read said 11am), they were extremely nice, helpful and professional. Doctor Sparrenberger (a tall drink of water) was on his way out to lunch but decided that he'll see me and my appt. wasn't even with him. Too kind of him. They really made my first time here memorable. I'm super excited to go back to pick up my glasses and to see the staff. You guys officially have a new client.
