Best place in town! Very friendly and helpful staff! I went in today to see about having my glasses repaired, and they assured me my glasses weren't ready to break. After a couple minutes of discussing my issues, they took my glasses back and tightened everything up. I got my glasses back after just a few minutes and they were better than new. To top it off they didn't charge me when they very well could have, and only suggested a polish in the future (only because of another concern I had) for more than a fair price. I will be back for future services, and I have already referred others. Thank you Asterix Eyewear staff, you are amazing!

The punk rock eyeglass store and I mean that in the best of ways. The focus is on substance instead of superficial stuff. So the shop felt homey, down-home - rock music playing. Within 5 minutes, the guy fixed the arm on eyeglasses that had been unfixable by many interested parties for an entire week. They have only a distant relationship with insurance companies which offers costs and benefits but the guy worked hard to make sure it worked out to my benefit. So I ended up buying an entirely new pair of glasses too. This is my new shop!

I broke an arm off a pair of new glasses when I slept on top of them in bed. My eye dr's office referred me to Asterix. Pros: - $45 for the repair - Called me when the repair was completed - Relatively short turn around time (2 days) Cons: - Damaged my frame and arm while repairing my glasses. Then they accused me of attempting an at-home repair which I most certainly did not do. They said I caused the damage with my at-home repair. - Wouldn't apologize or admit to causing the damage. - Store looks rundown. They put the same attention to details into their repairs as they do the interior design of the store. - Low quality workmanship. Go here if you have a pair of cheap glasses that you just need to see out of. Don't take frames you love and spent good money on here.

I have had trouble with my glasses since I bought them out at hollywood vintage two years ago. They're vintage men's frames, and I'm a woman, so they've always been sliding down my face a bit when I look down. I lost a screw and had been holding half of them together with wire, and then my boyfriend accidently sat on them so they wouldn't sit straight on my face. Also when I took the frames to america's best to get lenses they cut one of the lenses too small so the lense kept falling out too. I limped along, too cheap to fix them. I was in this shop for maybe 10 minutes, trying on glasses while he worked on them in the back. They fit PERFECTLY. they have never fit this good. it cost me 5 dollars. Will definitely be back. Also, though it is small, good selection of modern and some vintage frames, cute frames and just regular old glasses.

I broke the bridge on my glasses and looked around everywhere trying to find a place that would fix them. Pretty much every single place wanted to sell me new glasses and then also charge me for a new exam. I have to go to work. I can't be without glasses for a week while waiting on my glasses to be made. It wasn't even a money issue I just needed to see. I took my glasses in here and they had them fixed in about 3-4 hours and it has been at least 2 months since I got them fixed and they aren't showing any sign of weakness or anything. Anybody with a low star rating for this place has to just be mad they actually had to pay to get a decent service and just expect to get handed everything free. Because this place was professional, timely and did good work. I would recommend this place but there's no need. This place is your only option if you want your glasses fixed now with good workmanship.

10/5 Stars I just left more satisfied than I could have hoped for, Andrew is fantastic. After a fist time stop in to inquire about having smashed glasses repaired, I walked out 5 minutes later with them good as new. I was almost insistent that Andrew charge more for his service, however he politely declined. I will certainly be back to support a local business as impressive as Asterix.

A lens popped out of my vintage Suncloud SCRs and I was afraid to break the glass lens pushing it back into the frame myself. Andrew at Asterix repaired the lens and instructed me on care for the frames in the future. Great experience, local business, I will be back!

I called before I went in to see if my glasses could be repaired and get an estimate for the repair, the bridge snapped on my glasses and I was told it would be overnight repair and between $45-$55. I went before work and was told they would replace the bridge, and it would be $85, needing my glasses I did it and they had them fixed in 6 minutes. Friendly service, and very fast, only complaints are that it went from $45-$55 overnight repair, to $85 for a 6 minute repair, I can't help but feel I got played a bit, but they got the job done.

The arm of my glasses come off broke and I could not fix them myself. I brought them to Asterix Eyewear and within one hour they were as good as new. I had to pay $45.00 to have them welded, which was far better than buying a new pay. They were super friendly and helpful, too. I had a great experience.

This shop is great and I can't recommend it enough. I came in with a repair I was really worried about and my concerns were assuaged right away. While I was waiting for the repair I noticed lots of nice eyeglass brands and even some vintage offerings. The repair only took a few minutes and came out better than i'd hoped. Go away from all the sheisty optometrist places who apparently don't have any qualms about lying to your face & telling you, "Oh, they don't make those frames anymore. You're going to have to get new lenses made & get new frames. It'll run a little over $600 for everything." Go to this place on Foster & Powell!!! I walked into Asterix with my frames barely holding together at the bridge after I attempted to epoxy them together, to see if they could re-glue them, and the very nice young woman at the counter said she could probably locate some similar frames that they could put my newish expensive lenses into. WOW!!! Please support these great people. And while you're there, drop into the picture frame and quality discount art supply store 2 doors down. They are equally friendly and helpful.

I took my glasses to these people and they overcharged me for a terrible job. The glasses fell apart again a few weeks later except now one arm is shorter then the other and their is a screw scraping my face because they "repaired" them by cutting one arm shorter then the other and then used a screw to small for the hole THEY MADE to screw into. It is my fault for trusting hipsters with hand tools. I am sending my glasses to California for repair at a repair shop down there that does excellent work from before I moved to Portland.

They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so you’ll have to believe me that my face is less than symmetrical. To make matters worse, I’ve ended up with braces. As an adult. So it’s hard to find glasses that don’t sit crooked on my lopsided face or add too much more bling to my metallic smile. For me, trying on glasses in the past was a bit like trying on swimsuits after a long dark winter with one (or a thousand!) too many indulgent deserts and drinks and wayyy to few trips to the gym. Not so at Asterix! Tim and friends are so warm, genuine, personable, and accepting that I’ve always easily found glasses I love at Asterix. I recently moved and still made sure to get to Asterix when visiting Portland because I doubt I’ll ever find a shop as qualified, helpful, and excellent as they are at helping me find the next perfect pair of glasses.

Convenient location, very pleasant retailer with a lot of wonderful products- designer wear sunglasses and eyeglass frames. I bought a pair at Asterix to support local merchants... But when I got home and googled the price, I paid 80% more than what the manufacturer's website sells them for (and they include free shipping). I take all the blame for not doing my homework before hand.. and I don't mind paying a bit more to buy locally. But 80% over manufacturer prices?!?! Sadly, I'll be doing more internet shopping. Buyer beware, PREMIUM pricing! Also, their sales receipt includes "no refunds or returns".

The people here are extremely nice. And their process for fixing glasses is apparently very professional. But they charge 45 to fix glasses as a base price and told me it would take 2 days to fix them. I can't be without glasses for that long so I had to look for an alternative. I was looking for a quick fix. I took my glasses to Crown Optical and they fixed them in 10 minutes for 10 dollars. Check out Crown Optical if you need a quick fix and can't be without your glasses for multiple days. Very nice people over there and they give you an exceptional price. If Asterix offered a quick fix, I would have taken that in an instant.

I went in today to get a pair of bent glasses fixed. They did it on the spot for free, and I was in and out within 5 minutes. My glasses look and feel good as new -- no crookedness or poor fit. I'd highly recommend them; though in my case it was a pretty simple fix, I really appreciated the way they handled it. If I ever need another repair or a new pair of glasses, I will definitely go to them first.
