This eye doctor is the best ever! She really takes time to explain things and was able to perfect my prescription for the first time in years. They offer very stylish frames and provide excellent customer service. There are many opticians in NYC but James Leonard is a cut above.

I hardly recommend this place only because you not going to loose your time to wait for somebody and they are professionals, specially Dr. Irina Stoica , O.D. she is really good, professional, gives you all the information you need and she really know what is her job. The place has a great selection of frames, very good doctors, and Tristan is very good at finding a frame that would flatter one’s face shape. Where they fail is with the quality of their lenses. I simply can’t afford to be back: my lenses need to be replaced every 6 mos, something I never experienced in 25+ years I wear glasses. Supposedly the lenses they installed (3 different times, different eyeglasses) were top of the line Carl Zeiss lenses with anti-scratch protection. The way I care for the eyeglasses hasn’t changed. I brought the issue up with them but the replacement lenses I fully paid for didn’t fair any better. I won’t be back.

Went in hoping the optician could help adjust my glasses that I had purchased out of state with the hope of finding a new glasses shop for next time I adjust my prescription! To add insult to injury (literally) the rude optician said he would adjust them but that my glasses were all wrong for me. (Well, thanks!) When I took the glasses back they were now squeezing my head. Went a block up to LensCrafters- might be too low brow for that guy, but they adjusted my glasses properly and with a smile. I’m unimpressed by the artisanal, pretentious situation at James Leonard and will not be recommending them.

My husband and I have been going to James Leonard for several years. Dr. Stoica provided a very thorough eye exam. Tristan was extremely patient and helpful with us in making a frame selection. The variety and quality of the frames is great and we've gotten many compliments on our glasses. We stop in from title to time for adjustments and Tristan and the other staff are always helpful and accommodating. I highly recommend!

I have recently moved to US and I went to this place for my annual eye check-up. The staff was extremely cordial and nice. I felt quite comfortable in telling them my prior history of eye examinations. The doctor was quick and was letting me know the details of the procedures to keep me engaged in the entire process. I would recommend everyone to try this place . Super nice and hospitable people. :)

Highly recommend James Leonard Opticians! The optometrist was very knowledgeable. The technician was super patient and did an excellent job of helping me to pick out frames. The frame selection is large and stylish. Definitely a great experience. I'll be back!

After relocating to NYC I needed to order contacts and get my yearly eye exam; I’m so glad I found James Leonard Opticians. They offer extended hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so I was able to have my eye exam completed without taking time off from work! Dr. Stoica was very knowledgeable and shared a lot of information during the exam; I felt like she truly cared about my eye health and that I wasn’t “just another patient” - which is how my last eye doctor made me feel. Tristan was a huge help in finding the perfect frames; you can tell he really enjoys and takes pride in his work. They have a great selection of unique frames to choose from and I highly recommend visiting if you’re looking for top-notch eye care! They take VSP insurance which was a plus for me too (since there are a lot of NYC eye places that don’t take any insurance...)

I came here for annual checkup and to get annual supply of contact lenses. The doctor, Eddie Li, was great, very knowledgeable and patient. It was only strange that he asked for medical insurance card in addition to the vision insurance card. He asked me to come again and bring my old contacts so he could compare the prescription. (They could have told me to bring them before I came). The front office said they do not have the contacts and that I should order them online. I ordered the contacts, submitted for reimbursement to my vision insurance, and got denied. James Leonard Opticians have already charged my vision insurance for the contacts! When I went to the store and complained, they said they could order the lenses for me. I complained to my vision insurance company and got reimbursed after a few weeks. Surprise, surprise, my *health* insurance was also charged $230 for a supposed eyelid infection treatment. I contacted my health insurance to tell them I just went there for a checkup, and I don't know if they ever resolved that. I am not going there any more.

I went for a annual eye exam. The doctor is great and explained everything clearly. The exam feels comprehensive. Best of all, they didn't try too hard to sell glasses or contacts since I don't need them.
