General Optical is the best. My son, my husband and I have been coming here for years to get our glasses. The owners Ron and Leslie are warm and knowledgeable. The staff is incredible- professional, competent, willing to offer opinions about styles with grace and wit. I've recommended General Optical to many people over the years and all have come away happy. I've also gone to Dr. Klaahsen for the last few years for my eye exams and she's been great. I can't recommend this place highly enough.

I loved my visit here! The office is welcoming as is the staff. I prefer a small shop to something that feels like a big box place. I switched from a different doctor because I felt like he rushed through my eye exam...resulting in a wrong contact prescription. I can't say enough about Dr. K though! She was informative, thorough, stern when she needed to be (I'll take my contacts out more often, I promise!) to get her message across - all in my best interest. Top to bottom this is a wonderful place. I felt very taken care of in a very organized and efficient manner. So happy to have found them

Very impressed with every staff member here, especially Dr. Klaahsen. She was very thorough with my eye examination and provided me with new answers to some of my questions/concerns. Based on my interactions with her, I can say she is diligent, very knowledgeable, and most importantly, trustworthy. The front office staff was also very patient with me when I was dealing with insurance confusion/issues. I felt welcomed there during my visit and even though my appointment was near closing tie, I never felt pressured to leave. They also sell contact lenses at a competitive price unlike most practices I have been to in the past and for that I was more than happy to buy my year-long supply through them. They also were able to cut my new lenses and fit them into my old frames within a day - something that usually takes a week or more. Bottom Line - I highly recommend this place to anyone looking in the Greater Boston area!

I just went for a new patient visit! The entire staff is friendly and accommodating here! Dr. Klaahsen is very kind and performs quick, yet thorough eye exams. A few years ago, I went to another local optician and couldn't order contacts until the end of the 3rd visit; I was in and out of General Optical in 45 minutes. Visit was expensive, but they set me up with some courtesy discounts and rebates to take the edge off. I can't recommend this place enough!

I love the small cozy atmosphere. It gives the experience a personal touch. Diane, my salesperson was fantastic! She was able to get me every penny out of my insurance coverage. I cannot say enough about Diane. She is great! The prices are a little high but you pay for what you get. All in all a fantastic experience and I will go back when my prescription changes.

I have a very complicated prescription and General Optical is the only place I would go to get new glasses. Expensive but you get what you pay for, in other words your exact prescription and great service. I had previously bought glasses in a big store in Harvard Square and the astigmatism was 15 degrees wrong - so am a convert. JH

I had a great experience at general optical. Dr. Klaahsen was very knowledgeable and very professional. I went in for an eye exam thinking I had allergies irritating my eyes and she diagnosed and treated an eye infection. She was conscious of my budgetary constraints when prescribing antibiotics, which I appreciated. She had the option to prescribe a more expensive brand, but she spent about ten minutes researching the best most cost-effective option. When I was traveling and trying out my new contacts for the first time, she gave me her personal number to call in case the eye infection returned while I was on my trip. The staff in the office are very friendly and helpful, and sent me emailed copies of my prescriptions and receipts. My only complaint is that they did not seem as knowledgeable about what the appointment would cost. I called ahead of time, told them my insurance provider, and specifically asked whether contacts and glasses would be charged as separate eye exams. I was assured that it is one prescription for both, and that since my insurance covered my eye exam I would not be charged extra for contacts. When I got my eye exam two weeks later, the glasses prescription was covered but the contacts exam ended up being an additional $80. It would have been nice if the front desk person that I had spoken to on the phone had been able to provide me with the accurate cost estimate, but overall I am very happy with my experience.
