Our family has been going here for at least 20 years. We have always received exceptional service from the staff and doctors. I would recommend Bethesda Vision Care to anyone.

Dr. Marc Levy is a stellar optometrist who stays super-current with eye care testing technology. That attention to detail, combined with his genuine concern for patients, ensures you're getting the best care possible. I enthusiastically recommend Bethesda Vision Care.

Candace Beam

I went to Bethesda Vision Care for the first time this past Monday. I scheduled an appointment on Friday as a brand new patient and they accommodated me really quickly and efficiently! I saw Dr. Levy for a previous eye issue that was never solved by my former optometrist. He took extra time during my appointment to back track my history and find out everything he needed to know in order to properly help me get better. He prescribed me a pricey but fast acting prescription in order to get me feeling healthy in a shorter amount of time. He warned me about the price beforehand which I really appreciated. The only reason I didn't give Bethesda Vision Care 5 stars is because I don't like how they charge you separately for each service. I also don't like how you have to submit an invoice to your own insurance company to get reimbursed for treatment. I think that all doctors (no matter the practice) should have a separate billing department to deal with insurance so that the patient doesn't have to. Not everyone speaks the insurance coverage language. I've seen other reviews on here bashing the front desk reception staff for not taking more control over the insurance / payment issues, but I don't think that's fair because the front desk is there to shuttle patients through to their doctors quickly and effectively and to assist in scheduling and processing health forms. They do a great job of that.

Very Impressive service! Everyone is friendly and professional and oh you are literally in and out ! No long waits and the coffee selection is great too. :) Dr. Lawrence is great !

Augusto Cangahuala

No complaints. Same day appointment, free parking, convenient location and a friendly staff. Very good experience with the doctor too. Definitely recommend this to anyone in this area.

Brian Tolbert

I've been Dr. Levy's patient since I was in high school so it's been a little over a decade and my family has been very pleased over the years. The staff are very accommodating and super nice. Dr. Levy was also very patient with me when I put my first set of contacts in when I was 16. :-) Will continue to see him and highly recommend him as an eye doctor. He's always nice and welcoming on my visits.

Terry D'Addio

Excellent care. I have been going to Dr. Levy for several years and he has always taken the time to explain results from the different eye "tests" and makes sure he has answered all my questions. The rest of the staff is courteous and very competent. They have a great selection of eyewear. Highly recommend this practice!

Nanci Gosnell

Dr. Ketchuk and his staff are excellent. They are patient and kind and take the time needed to see that all goes well. Dr K is up on the very latest in lenses - it is a pleasure to visit this practice.

My daughter visited Dr. Weitz for Ortho-k treatment. He gave her wrong fitting lenses to wear. He also made a mistake and ordered left lens with the right eye's prescription. She wore the wrong lens for the whole summer. That hurt her eyes. She has irritation in both eyes since last summer. I have discussed with Dr. Weitz many times about the diagnosis and treatment, however, I did not receive a clear answer. We have to search around and visit another doctor for eye irritation. After several tries, Dr. Weitz failed to design a useful lenses for her, and she also has irritation in both eyes. Now, she has no useful lenses for Ortho-k, and has Giant Papillary Conjunctivitis. We have spent over $4,248 with Dr. Weitz and my daughter's eye condition has worsened. Dr. Weitz offered to refund our last charge $399. No, please refund us fully.

Chris Jones

Good customer service, although a bit sluggish on who is doing what. They messed up a pair of glasses, but fixed the lenses.

Elaina Hundley

Everyone that works here is very nice and helpful. However, after a year and many many trips for adjustments, my glasses still don't fit right. After a few hours wear, they make my head sore. It's expensive to purchase glasses here and unfortunately mine don't fit but the opticians did try to adjust them many times. I still don't know why we couldn't get them to work.

Barbora Bridle

The staff and doctors were professional and friendly. Dr. Lawrence educated me about research on causes of myopia, the physiology of the eye while looking at an amazing photo scan of mine, and discussed with me the possible causes of dry eye. He made helpful and sound recommendations while explaining the "why" behind them.

Patrick Runkle

We've had an amazing experience with this practice and their ortho-k treatment. My second grader doesn't have to wear glasses to school anymore and she is very happy and confident. Dr. Weitz has been thoughtful, responsive and extremely effective.

I went for my regular eye check which was supposed to be covered by my insurance. At the end, I had to pay $100 for an additional contact lens check for which THEY DID NOT TELL ME IN ADVANCE THEY WERE GOING TO CHARGE ME!!! Although the doctor was nice and friendly, the optician was extremely unfriendly and he seemed to be very annoyed by my questions!!! I really did not appreciate any of that!! I already cancelled my husband's appointment and I will never ever come back again to Bethesda vision care!!

Josh Graham

top notch equipment. Staff is sometimes harried because they always seem busy.

Pam Herrick

It has been at least 8 years since I have had an eye exam at an HMO and that one exam was the only eye exam I had ever had. Bethesda Vision Care made the whole check-up process so quick and simple, can't say the same for the HMO. I found the entire staff to be welcoming, efficient, knowledgeable and friendly - and there is free and easy parking!! I will definitely come back!

Maria Breto

Great experience! Dr. Kristen Glasgow was amazing and set a great atmosphere in which my 5 y/o felt totally comfortable. She was very clear explaining the results of the eye exam. The staff was great. I totally recommend this vision care group.

I have been going to this for two years now and I have no complaints! The staff is helpful and courteous, and Dr. Katchuk is fantastic! He doesn't rush through the eye exam, explains everything along the way and offers helpful advice for eye care. I would highly recommend this place.

A copy of my review on Yelp. Nothing like a bad prescription to make you want to warn others! Teeeeeeerrible! Over a year ago, I went in to get an eye exam, new glasses and contacts. Got the test, the glasses, and contacts. I had a migraine shortly after using the new prescription, and when I went in, was told that my eyes were fine and that the new prescription was not the cause of the migraine (I got the impression that I was crazy because the Dr. didn't really think there could be a correlation). Fast-forward to two days ago, new prescription at a new place...I was over-prescribed by .5 in both eyes! A pain in the back of my head/neck, that I thought was chronic at this point (and started after I had the migraines) has practically disappeared. My eyes could have spontaneously improved, or the migraine and head aches was distress from a poor prescription. It would seem it was the latter. It sounds like other people (some people on Yelp) have had good experiences here, but consistency is important, and all it takes is one bad experience like this to never go back again and encourage all of your friends and colleagues at the NIH and in Bethesda to AVOID going there.

Excellent service, excellent service, and did I mention excellent service? I went in to get my broken glasses serviced, and even though they did not have the right parts, somehow my attendant custom-fit new nosepads onto my old glasses. They even provided this service for free! Eye exam: quite literally the easiest eye exam I have ever had, even with the dilation. Somehow one of the attendants even knew how to put in the eyedrops with my eyes closed (directly onto the teardrop) and then have me open them, which is so much easier than anything I have ever done before. In short: very knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly staff. Glasses: they did not have the kind I wanted (with magnetic clip-on sunglasses), but they were able to order it. I am waiting for the delivery so I cannot say much else here, except that I expect them to be comparable to my previous ones which I bought at Pearl Vision almost 10 years ago. Price: I was literally shocked to hear the price of it all, which was at least twice what I expected. However: (1) this is for a fully decked-out pair of glasses (thinner lenses that are polished at the edges after being cut, lightweight and strong Titanium frames, the newer Scotch guard that protects against dust & water, and more standard stuff like anti-glare/anti-reflective coating, plus really cool magnetic clip-on sunglasses that I can add & remove even while running without having to remove the entire glasses - also, they remind me of The Matrix:); (2) if you want cheap eyeglasses, you can go to places like Wal-Mart, but these fashion eyeglasses are not anywhere near the same kind; (3) they only offer high-quality parts - for instance they use only Zeiss lenses; (4) I did not know that I had vision insurance (I was offered one by my workplace but turned it down), and even after I had already decided to go ahead and pay the price, my agent asked to see my health insurance card anyway, discovered that I did indeed have a form of vision insurance, and was able to knock off a third of the price. (BTW, did I mention the excellent service?:) For someone like me that used to get headaches from my heavy eyeglasses and having to remove them after coming home each day (leaving me seeing blurry at home), and who spends about 12 hours every day staring at a computer screen both at work and at home, the additional price is well worth the features that make them lighter and more functional & useful, so I can keep them on all day and night without even noticing that they are there. Conclusion: Excellent service, well worth the price. I would definitely return here, especially now that I know that I have vision insurance.;-)

I saw Dr K. The staff was very friendly and the doctor was very friendly, professional and informative. Highly recommended!

Andy Klein

Dr. Berenhaus is excellent; been a patient for many years.

Craig Reid

Great experience. Will definitely reccommend.

Sarah Laughon

Fantastic experience here. The staff was very friendly and the doctor I saw was extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and made me feel at ease. He thoroughly explained why he was prescribing what he was, and the benefits of each additional feature (beyond prescription lenses) he was suggesting. Their frame selection was extensive (even within the bounds of my insurance) and the entire staff was helpful and fun in the selection process. I am thrilled about my new glasses and will definitely be going back to Bethesda Vision Care for all future eye care needs!

Melissa Pietraszewski

Easy to schedule and very friendly front desk staff. I was taken back at my appointment time promptly. All tests prior to seeing the doctor were explained thoroughly. This was my first time see Dr Lawrence, he was professional and explained everything. The optician I worked with maximized my insurance benefits for the annual visit and contact supply. I have recommended my friends to this practice!

Griffith Gosnell

Excellent eye care and longer hours for appointments. Great selection of glasses. Contacts are always in stock. Highly recommend this practice and Dr Katchuk

O Daiei

When I first went there, I was nervous because that was my first time getting contact lenses. However, kind, humorous people there took off my anxiety. When I asked questions about how to fill in the form, they were willing to teach me how to, and when I tried putting contact lenses, they were being really patient (oh, that first time took me so long.) I don't know whether this is expensive or not, but the contacts cost $200~250. But their quality is great!

Bethesda Vision Care is a great place to get your eyes examined. Friendly staff and doctors! I never have to wait long for my appointment. Very nice waiting room though in case you do have to wait a little bit. Would recommend BVC to anyone!

Lydia Vine

I recently got my 3rd pair of sunglasses at Bethesda Vision Care and as usual they are rockin'! I love their selection and always find something very special! This years choice of ic! Berlin's is getting me many compliments! I think maybe this pair is actually winning the attention-getter award. BVC has a wide range of choices for both prescription frames and sunglasses. Their selection is always very current so I know I'm getting the latest styles. I also love my Robert Marc prescription reading glasses I got from them...another pair that people ask, "where did you get those?" They have a lot to look at so I do suggest enlisting the help of the staff so you don't miss seeing something great. When there is a lot to look at it is easy to miss something. I highly recommend checking them out!

Having had a GREAT recent experience, I was again reminded why I've been a loyal patient / customer of Bethesda Vision Care for 10 years. After the frames on my 3 year old glasses (bought else where) broke, I met with Ryan to get them replaced only to find the model had been discontinued. Being a good sales person, he showed me some new frames but when I expressed my desire to replace the existing frames, he tried his darnedest find replacements through secondary markets (as did I). When we both came up empty, Ryan worked w me to find new frames that I liked. I discovered after doing some online shopping that I could get frames close to what Ryan showed me cheaper. I mentioned this to Ryan who respectfully outlined the benefits of buying from his shop. I ended up deciding to pay a bit more and buy from Ryan...and it paid off in spades. After getting the new glasses, which came exactly as promised, I realized that I wished for slightly smaller lenses and a slightly different shape...no problem. Ryan hooked me up big. Thanks Bethesda Vision Care & Thanks Ryan!

Marcus Morrissette

Bethesda Vision Care has a very friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable team. I came in on a busy Saturday without an appointment. My eye exam was performed immediately. Frame selection was a lot of fun because of their extensive selection and expert guidance. Highly recommended! Edit: I also wanted to note that my attendant was very clear about the cost of my frames/lenses and how much I would save going through my insurance provider versus purchasing name-brand lenses.

Jonathan Stein

I've been going to Bethesda Vision Care for a few years now. It has always been a positive experience -- even when I drop in to get my glasses adjusted. Dr. Katchuk has always been very thorough with his exams and listens to my questions and/or concerns. They are upgrading to a new computer system so on my last visit it took a little longer -- but will benefit everyone in the future. Gary the Optician really takes his time to figure out your needs, concerns and is very patient. He does spend more time with you then other opticians. He really makes the customization of the glasses and any changes to the script a smooth transition -- even when walking in without an appointment. The rest of the staff are really helpful and cheerful -- always make sure you are not left hanging. They also have a solid and up to date selection of frames.

Rocco Donofrio

Moved from out of state so was looking for new eye doctor, this was the fastest eye doctor experience I ever had. The doctor was super friendly and made sure all my questions were answered before leaving. The glasses specialists were also super helpful rather than have me browse, they asked me what I like and brought me frames that fit that requirement and their selections were spot on. They also helped me decided on options that work best with my insurance. I found my new eye doctor!

Kim Kytola

I had a wonderful experience at Bethesda Vision Care - from check in, to techs running the tests to the doctor himself everyone was friendly and clearly cared about providing the best care possible. I walked out with the clearest vision I have had in a few years and will be back for glasses!

Dr. Katchuk is great and knowledgeable in his field. The office cancelled my appointment due to not confirming, however, I indeed confirmed it through text two weeks ahead (see attached). I guess it didn't register, but I forgot to return their call the night before my appointment, so, I guess I am not a priority.

Maddie Grant

Been coming to see Dr K for probably 10 years. He's awesome.

Stephanie Killian

I have been a patient of Bethesda Vision Care for more than 20 years. The doctors and staff have provided consistent quality care and service. I highly recommend Bethesda Vision Care.

Katie Wetstone

Great care! I have never had glasses before, and Dr. Glasgow did a fantastic job of guiding me through the process. I was very well taken care of and the staff are always attentive and helpful.

Alexis Cruz

My contact lens in my left eye was bothering me even when I switched to new pairs so I came here. The doctor asked me a few questions and examined my eye. He concluded that I have "irritation" in my cornea, so I just needed to leave my contact lenses out of my eyes for 3 days while putting lubricating eye drops and ointment in my eyes. I did this and came back for my scheduled follow up 3 days later. The doctor checked my eye and said the irritation was gone, that I was ready to put them back in, and that "these things tend to heal themselves." Well, I left, put the contacts back in and continued to have the same problem. That was a waste of time and money. They made me submit itemized receipts to my insurance company to get reimbursed, which is not what is supposed to be done. So that's also a waste of time for me. UPDATE: They contacted me about my complaint and I discovered that I had been out-of-network this whole time. They never told me this even when I gave them my insurance card. That is misrepresentation.

SaraMarie K

Brian was a totally AWESOME optician! He was kind and helpful and he made it fun to pick out new frames! The services in general seem a little expensive, but they are very thorough with the entire process offering advanced retina scans and such. I have been seeing Dr. Levy for last few years for my exams and he's super nice and always so efficient (he doesn't keep you in the exam chair for a thousand years and quickly figures out your prescription).

Subrina Wood

I needed a new pair of driving/movie/distance glasses asap before going on vacation. I went in at 8:40am and was out before 10am with a brand new pair of specs in a funky designer frame. EVERYONE there is super nice, professional, and COOL. I love this place.

Diane Centeno-Deshields

I had an excellent experience and have been a faithful patient for over 27 years with brief lapses in visits while I was active duty. However, I am now retired and back in the area. I would not think of any other place to go to for eye care. The staff work extremely hard to provide the best service. I would like to mention that Waheed is an excellent asset to the team. He is very knowledgeable, courteous and patient as he helped me select my frames. Thank you Dr. Berenhaus, Waheed and the rest of the Bethesda Vision Care team.

Amy Bakken

I was in the area on vacation and lost my glasses. It was a Sat and I thought I was going to have to go without until I got home. I was so happy to find Bethesda Vision Clinic. They were able to make me new glasses that very day. Anthony was a great asset, helping me pick out frames and totally understood that I didn't want to spend a lot on a spare pair of glasses. Thank you Anthony and Bethesda Vision Care!

Ali Arvanaghi

I have been going to annual vision checkups like clockworks since having cataract surgery in the 80s. Dr. K is knowledgeable, helpful and personable. I recommend him to anyone who asks about a good contact lens specialist.

Elisabeth Hanan

I saw Dr. Glasgow as a new patient last month and she was fantastic. I appreciated the time that she took to explain all of her recommendations in detail and answered all of my questions. Even better, I was very pleased with all of the staff at Bethesda Vision Care. The receptionists were friendly and pleasant to greet me, the technicians that took care of the initial eye tests before I saw Dr. Glasgow were friendly and competent, and the opticians were very helpful in finding a snazzy new set of frames for me. I took some time to write this post because I also wanted to comment on my follow-up experience picking up my new glasses and coming back for adjustments, which I normally need to do at least once any time I get new frames. I was still pleased with all of my interactions with the Bethesda Vision Care staff and I am so happy to have found such a great new practice!

Jennifer

Bethesda Vision Care makes having an eye exam a pleasure. Staff was kind, cordial, helpful and efficient, and the exam was a totally pleasant and easy experience. I will continue to recommend Bethesda Vision Care to my friends, without reservation.

This is the best experience I have had in a very long time when it comes to service and quality. Ryan judgment and attention to detail in helping me pick out new frames is the reason I now have 5 new pair of frames and I just wanted my old pair of Lindbergs fixed. I am so happy that I found a quality Optician like Dr. Glasgow who is not only professional but has a great sense of humor. My family at Bethesda Vision Care are AWESOME, and yes I said family, because they made me feel like one of them from my first interaction with Ryan to Dr. Glasgow.... They are now stuck with me forever and ever and ever..... Thank you so much for showing the love and passion for your job and the care and attention you show your customers ooops I mean family. :-) Bryant

Even though I live across the street from this place, I looked them up on Davis vision's database to make sure they accept my insurance. Once it was assured they did, I walked up there to order some contacts. They told me that through insurance, examination is covered but evaluation is not, and that would be upwards of $90. I called up my insurance who pointed out that evaluation is covered if I order contacts from a set list on their website. So, I told the staff of this information and they accepted that in this case evaluation was covered, but they weren't used to ordering contacts through insurance! I was a bit surprised but insisted that I'd like to use my insurance. They warned that it might take weeks to get my order, while they take 3-4 days if ordered directly. I said that'll be okay. They were definitely not happy with my choice, but scheduled my appointment. Over the next two weeks, I had various appointments with Dr Song to finalize my prescription. She was a breeze to deal with and definitely better than many doctors I've had before. This is the only reason I didn't give this place one star! Once the prescription was finalized, the staff was asked to submit my order through the insurance. They were visibly frustrated to deal with insurance again and asked me to be seated. After waiting for 20-30 minutes, I was told that they were seeing an error in the order. I asked them if they could call the insurance to figure out the error. The reply? "I've already dropped everything to do this... now I don't have time until next week to followup on this".. I was shocked at this. I ended up calling my insurance to figure out what the error was. But I also let them know that I was extremely dissatisfied with their attitude with people who have insurance and would like to use it! I'd suggest they don't enroll to be insurance databases if they don't prefer to deal with insurance. Update: I got a call from the owner of the place. He said that due to my disappointment with the place, they wouldn't want to do any business with me. They canceled my prescription and asked me to find another place. After almost a month of finalizing contacts, the process starts all over! I understand that dealing with insurance is a real pain, but if a place is losing customers because of their frustration with insurance, then they should just stop dealing with insurance. Overall, Dr Song was nice, and the owner was really nice in calling himself, but the overall experience was ridiculous.

Adrian Paskey

Dr. Kristen Glasgow is a terrific eye doctor. The office staff struggles sometimes.

Amy Gordon

I had a new prescription from my (excellent) eye doctor and went to BVC for the first time to get new reading glasses and prescription sun glasses. They recommended high definition lenses and I chose frames (not the least expensive but not the priciest either). After health care discounts, the total cost would have been about $1800. They also pressed me to have a new exam with their doctor, insisting that it was necessary because my prescription was unusual. I said no. I realized after declining to purchase the two pairs of glasses that they had taken my health care cards early on in the process and determined what I could cover under my insurance before making recommendations on the new eye exam and pricey lenses. Not the most ethical way to generate business, in my view. I am sure their services and products are high quality, but would prefer not to be steamrolled where cost is concerned.

Dr. Glasgow was excellent! Highly recommend.

I've been going there for years for regular eye exams, and they've been great. This year I had to get glasses for the first time, and was lucky to be assisted by Char who picked out a beautiful pair on the first try. When I had a problem with the order (that was totally my fault), she was super responsive and resolved the issue quickly and completely.

R N

Highly recommend! I was very pleased to be able to book my appointment online and to my surprise they had an availability the same day for an annual exam. My vision is relatively good and no extensive tests were necessary therefore I was able to go in and out in 30 min. The staff was very accommodation. Dr. Levy was very knowledgeable and took the time to explain and answer my questions. They also provide glasses and lenses on premise. I did not take advantage of this service this time but will surely do in the future. I would highly recommend this service provider based on my first experience with their services.

Jeffrey Adler

I have been a patient at Bethesda Vision Care for over 20 years. The diagnostic equipment is always state of the art, and makes eye exams quick and painless - and most importantly accurate. Dr. Berenhaus has very high standards, so his staff is always very professional, and the office runs like a well oiled machine.

Lauren Miller

Figured I’d come here since I work close by. Boy, am I impressed! This is a small business with “big business” customer service that’s in fact unmatched by actual big businesses (e.g., starbucks). It doesn’t matter who you deal with at this place (front desk, optician, opt assistant, doctor, etc.). They’re all so friendly and very professional. Highly recommend!!!

Toby Gottesman

Staff friendly and competent. Been a patient there for 9 years

Matt Sontag

Both my partner and I have gotten excellent service from Bethesda Vision Care. I am new to glasses, and a bit of a stickler for details (I am correcting less than half a diopter of sphere and the same of astigmatism - I'm picky) and the doctors and opticians at Bethesda were patient and extremely helpful throughout the entire process. For my partner, who is plus 7 in both eyes with a cylinder of 4 and bifocals, he has routinely commented that the glasses they made gave him the clearest vision he has ever had. Overall they are flexible, take all the time with you that you need, and produce a top-notch product.

Romano

Well, for a company that is supposed to care for your eyes they seem to be more interested in selling the most expensive product you hardly need. The medical exam was fine but somehow I was strongly recommended costly 'progressive' lenses which work in some fantastic way to give me such a fantastic vision. The selling department do a great job to then pick expensive frames and then telling you the lenses are $350 each! I walked out after paying $1250 for a pair of glasses that broke after a couple of years. A more honest eye doctor in Italy said that progressive lenses for a guy my age are nonsense; a typical marketing tactic used in the US. The result? I was prescribed the lenses I am wearing today with a new frame plus full eye exam for about $300! at my eye doctor in Italy. See the problem here?
