Dr. Fields is fantastic, very professional and educated right here in the state of Maine! Staff is also top notch, several appointment reminders, convenient location on Broadway, next door to St. Joseph's family healthcare. State of the art equipment and treatment. Highly recommend to everyone looking for quality eye care.

Maggie Benson

Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Clean, quiet atmosphere. Dr. Fields was very thorough, and didn’t make me feel like just another patient. Very knowledgeable and willing to answer questions.

I was devastated when my eye doctor of 30 years retired and hated the thought of changing eye doctors. I was so pleased with Eye Center Northeast from the very first phone call to my daughter's first eye visit with them. They are professional, kind and very helpful.

These people are crooks! It costs $240 for a basic eye exam! They bill $200 to my insurance company then tell me I owe $40 for a "contact lens fitting fee". I've never had to pay this before. Fees should be disclosed to patients BEFORE services are rendered. I've been wearing contacts for 17 years- my prescription didn't even change. The secretary couldn't even give an explanation of what the fee was for. This should be illegal. They told me to take out my contact lenses at the beginning of the exam, so what is the point of this other than a greedy fee. Exam took 1 hour, I spent 80% of that time with a technician. How can they possibly justify $240? That is more than twice the national average price for an eye exam! Outrageous.

Mico Nelson, DVM

The quality of the doctors is tops. The staff is another story: I'd ordered contacts twice from NE. The first time no one notified me they were in, I went to pick them up, and the receptionist had a seriously condescending and high-handed attitude. The second time I ordered, I asked for them to be shipped and subsequently got a notice to come in and pick them up. This was followed by a barrage of text and emails telling me my eye wear had come in. When I called NE to explain I hadn't ordered any eye wear the staff member I spoke to erupted into laughter; this is not an appropriate response to making an error, much doing so less three times in a row. There is what I, as a medical professional, perceive to be a serious lack of competence, professionalism, courtesy, common sense, and efficiency among the staff here and that has been enough to get me to go elsewhere. Incompetence and unprofessional conduct have no place in any aspect of medicine. Period.

The staff was friendly at Eye Center Northeast, however I am less than pleased with the glasses I paid almost $500 for. I went in for trifocals glass's as I have always gotten with transition lenses, anti-glare and scratch coat. they talked me into getting progressive lenses stating that if I did not like then then I could return them for the trifocals lenses which I felt was wonderful. When I got the progressive the prescription was correct, however the progressive part was not as I expected. I had an extremely limited view like a cats eye where if I moved my eyes slightly to the right or left everything became blurry. They did tell me that but I felt that the clear sharp view was not enough to be satisfactory, I can't move my head back and fourth every time i want to read or see something that is a little to the right or left. Also, only one eye was in focus when reading, I had to tilt my head to one side or the other just to be able to see something like a book in my hands. That was not acceptable. I returned to eye center northeast on Broadway in Bangor ME and asked for the trifocals lenses explaining that these did not work for me at all. It didn't seem to be a problem, a couple weeks later I get my new glasses, prescription was perfect again but, no trifocals as I asked. They said that it was not in the Dr.s prescription so I was not going to get trifocals even if I did ask for them. Then tried to say I did not come in with trifocals in the first place. If I didn't need trifocals then why would I opt to get the progressive? With a lot of words spoken they said that they would make an exception and give me the trifocals. When I went in to get my "new" glasses I was again disappointed. The trifocals part was extremely crooked but at least I could see though I felt that I should have received some money back because of the less expensive trifocals. Once again, here I am not satisfied. My glasses, though the prescription is correct, the trifocals work wonderfully and I can see well are scratching horribly. I have never had this problem before with my glasses, never had scratches appear when I cleaned them almost every time! Almost $500 and I have less than acceptable product. I will not go back to these people, I am on disability and can not afford to buy glasses every 6 months or every year for that matter, I had to shut off my phone until I have paid off my glasses and they are scratching like crazy. This is not a company i would in any wise encourage people to go to, I would rather do everything I can to discourage anyone who ask's. Yes the staff is very friendly, yes my prescription is perfect but the glasses are less than satisfactory and that is what I went in for in the first place, not the staff but glasses that I can wear that meet the needs I have.
