After researching various opthamology providers I discovered Sabates Eye Centers have retina specialists. That sup specialty of opthamology is extremely important. A detached retina is a fast trip to blind. Why some other opthamology practices do not provide this critical sub specialty to their practice is mind blowing. Sabates Eye Centers have a complete eye care service. They provide total state of the art medical eye care. Sabates has the most complete state of the art eye care centers in the Kansas City metro. They are so highly respected by some other opthamology providers that some of those providers bring in a retina specialist from Sabates. So for my money I selected Sabates to get the best of the best. Why number one in eye care is so important: number two is the first looser. I do not want to risk loosing my eye sight.

First impression and last impression were as expected but the in-between, not so much so. The front desk staff is very professional and complete. The OD, Jared Stoecklein, is very professional and complete. The techs, on the other hand, not so much so. The tech and the lead tech insisted on a standard policy and procedure for clients and I noted a lack of interest in the standard policy and procedure. As an example, the tech and the lead tech insisted on noting a preference for glasses or contacts and I noted an interest in an eye exam first and a glasses or contacts discussion second. I finally told the tech I was at the wrong eye doctor and prepared to head for the door. The lead tech indicated the eye doctor would complete the exam but the wait would be some 15 minutes. In the end the eye doctor did complete the exam as originally expected. The facility is nice. Unclear if the standard policies and procedures are worth the hassle. I told the lead tech the experience was adversarial. The equipment is nothing more than the standard equipment found in a shopping mall eye doctor. And oddly enough the prescription is printed after the checkout via the individual tasked with selling glasses but neither I nor the individual tasked with selling the glasses could decipher the prescription. And as the eyes were dilated minutes prior I could not see the prescription. I would much prefer to have the prescription printed by the eye doctor and explained by the eye doctor. And despite the endless hassles from the techs as such, the eye doctor never inquired as to the preference of contacts or glasses. I am highly considering a visit to another eye doctor with or without insurance payment as I have so many concerns.

Wait is too long, I get more help from a nurse than I do a doctor. Been trying to get the doctor to replace my binoculars, that I use to watch television. My binoculars are a 7 x 35. But need new ones, as the gear has worn out on adjusting the lens. But right now cannot afford new binoculars. The reason I come to Sabates, my eye doctor at the Veterans hospital in Leavenworth Ks., has left the building. Transferred to another hospital and at the time was the only doctor that gave the shot in the eye. Thank you very much. Jackie Sedgwick Sr.

My wife is having some rubbing in the eye that only had glaucoma? Not having been here before, it persists after eye drops. I hope this eventually goes away. This is bothersome to her and not sure how long to expect this to persist. Also, having two charging centers is confusing and not explained well up front. You should give a "total" price to begin with.

I called at 4:55 p.m. as soon as I got off of work to set an appointment for my eyes and the lady that answered the phone immediately hung up on me. I called back again got a different lady who said she couldn't take any of my information or look up any of my numbers until I told her what kind of vision insurance I had which I did. She rudely told me what I was telling her was wrong so I called my insurance company to make sure that I had the right information (I did) and called her back but they were already closed so the phone was turned off. I understand now that they have an answering service and I wasn't talking to anyone at the office. The man who helped me choose my frames stood out the most to me. I trusted his advice about my face shape, and the color of the glasses. I would never have picked out those frames on my own but when I saw myself in them I couldn't have setted for another pair. When I picked up my frames he helped fit them to my face, and I've never had such an easy time adjusting to new lenses in my life. You would do well to trust his judgement.

From the person at the front desk who checks me in to the person who checks my vision to the opthomologost, on down the line, I have never had a negative encounter (and that is saying a lot coming from me; according to my wife and a lot of people who know me -I'm difficult to please).

Eye exams have been 5 star , stoped coming here numerous years ago due to frame personnel just being hard to work with, came back a few months ago for eye exams for the family and low and behold we had bad time there agian wanting to charge us 400 bucks for lenses for oakley frames said it wouldn't go through insurance since they had to send to oakley to make, well gueas what sabates Davis told us to go to your competitor because they do cover them and your 420 dollar lenses just cost us 162 through SVS Vision in liberty and they send them to oakley also, I guess they want our business more

I was in and out in less than an hour, which included a complete eye exam, and the purchase of new glasses. I used to go to McKnight in Liberty, but I'll never go back because they were always running behind and nursing staff was incredibly rude. I'm happy I found Sabates.

Terrible racial slur spoken to me by Dr. Joel Stoeckline O.D!!!!!!!!!! I could hardly believe it, and was appalled, and saddened that I took a chance as a new patient and came to Sabates on Barry Road. The check in process and eye exam at Sabates weren't anything special, not what u would expect of supposed leaders in eye care. I made two appointments. One was for me, one for my husband. We went to Visionworks last year and the doctor was amazing, it was the glasses that were subpar. I was looking for better service. I DIDNT FIND IT AT SABATES!!! My appointment was at 2pm, my husbands was at 130pm. Normally, I go and sit with him, but because of the time difference in appointments, and I had to fill out paperwork, he went alone to be examined. So the final step is to see the doctor. My husband is from India. He has Strabismus. In his family, its considered good luck. I don't know how likely it was for him to have the corrective surgery young, he grew up in a rural place. A few years ago my husband was looking at the option of surgery. Its a sensitive topic for him, and he decided against it then. So I asked this Doctor Joel Stoeckline if they performed Strabismus surgery at Sabates. I am always concerned about the health of my husband's eyes. He says and I quote, "IS THIS ABOUT YOUR BOY?" My boy? Is it 1960? Are we in the deep south of the united states? Are black people and other people of color still needing to prove that we deserve equal treatment? How is a gentleman in his late 20's still EVER, especially in a professional setting, referred to as a boy? Was he referencing the difference in my age and my husband's age? Do I need to feel attacked at an eye exam? He could have responded, "Yes, at a different location.", "why do u ask, can I answer questions about the surgery?" No, is this about your boy is what the black lady got. Then he tried to clean it up and be friendly with small talk and how many weeks pregnant are you, what are u having? I couldn't get out of there fast enough! It was terrible and unnecessary! No, he is my husband actually Doctor. We paid to be here. We have excellent private insurance, and should receive excellent service. I am his wife, and have a right to inquire about his care. We won't be returning, and I am in the process of writing a letter to Dr. Nelson Sabates. My mother taught us early, everyone has a boss and if all else fails, contact the person who has their name on the building. I speak up for all of the people who don't know how to submit a complaint, or make their situation known.
