Dr. Rial is wonderful! A great doctor and very pleasant!
I have been a patient for 14 years. I called for a same day appointment for a possible eye infection. I was told to go to a walk in clinic. Unbelievable. Charles Frezza R. Ph.
Great staff.
I read all the reviews and want to give my take. I had a corneal foreign body with abrasion driving me crazy for 3+ days. The pain and annoyance ultimately became intolerable so I called around seeking treatment options. I spoke with a secretary at the Delaware Eye Institute and told them who my insurance provider was. As it turns out, my insurance coverage did not have eye care so I was forced to pay out of pocket. The secretary and staff weren’t concerned at all with my lack of insurance coverage and had me scheduled for 1 hour and 15 minutes from the time I called. The wait time was a bit long and there were 2 stages of waiting, first in the lobby for 30 minutes, then the initial checkup with “Lee”, then another wait for approximately 30 minutes. After the second wait, I was called and seen by “Yanni” and “Dr Schmidt”. Dr. Schmidt was expeditious, thorough, no nonsense, explanatory and got right down to business rooting out the foreign body and abrasion. He wrote me out a script for some eye drops and 24 hours later, I feel a 90% improvement. The wait time is subjective in my opinion as there were a tremendous number of patients in the office on a Thursday afternoon. I dealt with 3 days of agony, an additional hour to hour and a half wait is trivial from my perspective. Also, paying out of pocket was incredibly reasonable. I paid cash and must say, I was pleasantly surprised by the reasonable bill presented to me at the end of my visit. I would recommend any and everyone who has eye related issues to give them a try!
Absolutely wonderful experience! Dr Taylor was very attentive and explained everything with detail that I could understand. Glenn in the Optical shop set me up with my first pair of glasses. He recommended a "blue blocker" to help with eye strain due to looking at monitors all day. So far it seems to make a huge difference. Thank you to everyone!
I had a wonderful experience here with Dr. David Robinson. He was exceptionally nice and thorough.
I’m in your office every 4 weeks for an injection for CRVO, every 3 months for glaucoma monitoring/treatment. The doctors and medical staff are fine but scheduling is TERRIBLE. Processes and procedures are old and unfriendly. Patients are always backed up, visits average over 2 hours and can take sometimes over 3. Respectfully, you can do better.
After cataract surgery in June 2017, I now have irreversible double vision due to an unnecessary injection to paralyze my eye muscles during the procedure. Even worse, the doctor was very unsympathetic and walked out of the room when I started to cry. He offered no further help at all. I haven’t had any problems with the front desk or long waits.
I literally couldn't get past the woman who schedules appointments. I explained I had received this office immediately before calling to schedule. She started rapid firing questions about vision being separate from medical and whether it was an IPO, PPO, HMO, without letting me respond to anything. When she finally gave me an opportunity to read her the information on the card, she immediately said they don't accept it. When she allowed me to describe what was on the back of the card, she acknowledged they do in fact accept it. By this point I assured her that I would absolutely not be coming in to see them as it appears they are trying to turn away business. Hope she's able to find a new job when enough patients decide customer service is important.
What a great experience, nervous at first thinking I needed glasses. After examination and still have 20/20 vision at 60yrs. So, relieved staff was great.
In the waiting room FOREVER!
Well aside from the amazing results of my surgery, I thought the whole surgical coordination was over the top! The attention to detail is right up my alley and the teams in the surgical wing are incredibly thorough and make you feel totally at ease. Thank You.
Had great service back then, had detatched retnia, the team was caring, and very helpfull, before, during, & after surgery. Thank you very much.
Awesome place they care about people, not just a number and how much money they can get from you. ☺
On the first morning of our beach vacation, I awoke with symptoms of what could've been a retinal detachment! I called my ophthalmologist, and spoke to the doctor on call, who told me I needed to see a retinal specialist immediately. Of course, I couldn't get a Sunday appointment so I had to go to the emergency room (BEBE); they didn't have a retinal specialist on call but the ER doctor called their ophthalmologist on call, Dr. Charles Curry, who agreed to meet me at his office a half hour later. I thought I'd be heading home to DC after the appointment to see a retinal specialist, but Dr. Curry conducted a thorough exam, explained that I had a Posterior Vitreous Detachment which would likely resolve on it's own in about a month, and instructed me to follow up with my own doctor at that time. He explained what to watch for and gave me his number, in case it worsened. Dr. Curry instilled confidence and was professional and competent. He saved our vacation with a minimum of disruption and I was very grateful.
The wait here is terrible. The last two appt’s for my mother-in-law have taken over three hours to see a doctor.
I'm happy with Delaware Eye Institute on Route 24 a.k.a. John J. Williams Hwy. It's easy to get to with a lot of interesting places to go for someone who has brought you for your eye exam and has to wait for you until your exam is done. There's Wal-Mart, West Marine, Michael's, Peebles Dept Store, places to eat includes Taco Bell, Wendy's, Friendly's. McDonald's is close but you'd have to either cross Route 24 by foot or drive. There are many Dr's in the complex to choose from and if you have to see a Retina Specialist they have 1 of them also which is unbelievable since there are very few in the whole country! I used to have to go to Salisbury, Maryland before coming here, so that makes me VERY happy. They have their own surgery center on premise, haven't had to use it but it's good to know it's there if I or my husband need it. Never a long wait to be seen and quite frankly, I've waited in Dr's offices for more than an hour but not here. I'm pleased.
After going to accurate (who isnt very accurate )I'm going to stay with De. Eye institute! The building is clean & theyre professional. The vision exam is thorough and the staff and dr. Taylor is very nice. There is a wait however the Rehobeth/Lewes area is very populated.
Delaware eye institute patient scheduling sucks. I made an appointment approximately two weeks ago at at the last moment days before my appointment I'm told they don't take my insurance someone should have told me that when I first called about the 8 appointment
I'm basically cataract blind waiting for a date for surgery which won't be till March..
Friendly doctors and staff. Highly recommend!
If I could give zero I would. Agree with bad reviews here. Lousy attitudes across all. Doctors are condescending and seem inconvenienced. Waited almost 2 hours no apologies, acted like we were lucky to see them at all. AWFUL - RUN don’t walk to nearest exit.
Best in the state of Delaware!!
Horrible customer service in the Retinal Center. We were left waiting in the waiting room (again) after my sister received services. No one was at the desk to let us know that she finished her procedure. Never make an appointment in the late afternoon and expect that someone will be around to assist.
There are two parts to the Eye Institute. One part is the medical side with the doctors, technicians and support staff. The other is the Vision Center which sells eyeglasses. I have experienced both sides. The medical side delivers excellent diagnostic and prescriptive services but I agree that the waits can be very long and the mannerisms are gruff. Not really nice vibes and this can really stand some adjustments. The vision center has a wide variety of quality glasses with excellent service and turn around times. The staff here is friendly and knowledgeable. I’ve had many years of good service and really great eyewear.
Great with little ones. Waiting is too long. You guys should not triple appointments. I know that it brings more cash in but anyone who makes my child feel safe in a dr.s office is ok with me.
My husband walked out of an appointment after waiting 45 minutes and reluctantly rescheduled. At rescheduled appointment the technician said she didn't want to perform one of the tests because she didn't like touching eyelids. She then stated she was only doing the test because the person who should be doing the test called in sick. My husband said he would never go back. Today I had an already scheduled appointment and was left waiting for an hour. When I was finally seen the doctor was actually offended when I complained about having to wait. This is a truly terrible office IMHO. Do yourself a favor and find somewhere else to have your eye exams. I should have known when my regular physician told me that he would no longer go to this facility.
Awful receptionists. Whoever it was that answered the phone literally hung up on me. She was rude, curt, and condescending. I'll take my business elsewhere thanks to her.
Excellent physicians & staff. First quality procedures & top notch technology. Went for my monthly eye needle for Macular Diabetic Edema. Was told about laser treatment that may reduce or stop the swelling & leakage in my eye. Never told or offered at my other clinic. Successfully done ✅Very happy. Thank you Dr Riall.
Had a problem with my contact lens walked in without an appointment. The receptionist couldn’t have been nicer - they worked me into the schedule and I was seen with a minimal wait. Dr and staff are great.
If you enjoy sitting in a series of waiting rooms for hours, on multiple occassions, to see the doctor for less than 3 minutes, consider coming here. They overschedule each and every time I come here. Not just one or two patients a day, multiple patients. For example, while sitting in the waiting room for over 2 hours, with 22 orher people, we realized that some of us were scheduled to see the same doctor at the exact same time. We were also scheduled only 10 to 15 min apart. I was not happy with the actual procedure results either, and once i have my follow up here completed I will never come back. I would prefer driving 100 miles rather than come back.
My husband, daughter and I were on vacation at Dewey Beach. Our second to last day at the beach, my husband lost his eye glasses due to an oversized strong wicked wave. With living three hours away, we knew the ride back home would be impossible for my husband to drive without his glasses. We called Eye Optical and Within an hour, we had his lens shipped over night and frames to his liking were picked out the very next day. We were truly overwhelmed by the service they provided. Thank you, Eye Optical for a safe ride back home! Job well done! The Kruper family
When I made my appointment I specifically asked if I can get my pupil distance. My insurance only pays for my exam, so I needed to order online in order to afford my new glasses. I was told I can get my PD measured while there. This is not the case. There is an eyeglasses store attached, and they only do it if you are buying from them. The exam itself was good, but I feel I was deliberately misled when I scheduled because I was very clear in my intentions.
The wait to see the doctor is ridiculous. First waiting room over 40 mins then they put you in another waiting room for another 40 mins. I have been calling trying to pay my bill and can not get anyone to call me back. I talked to receptionist told her I wanted to pay my bill and want a person she said ok and sent me to another voicemail. Guess they don't want my money! Never had such a problem trying to pay a bill.
Care protocol is both worthy and comforting when an appointment is requested for what are your out of the ordinary ophthalmic happenings (symptoms): From the immediate response, which included an early morning same day appointment, all the way through a complete in excess of an hour exam with a competent and discreet technician, who goes by the name of Vickie, both a bright and compassionate human being (I apologize if title brand is incorrect), to the re-exam and assessment by the (your) Ophthalmologist. Always understand that your doctor will likely always have his familiar and expected personality under other and all medical/clinical circumstances. Always a professional: Maneuvering his appointments, well versed, clear, punctual, ,,, just ,,,,, something this side of his usual, brisk temperament ,,,,,
Have been going to Delaware Eye Institute (DEI) since I moved from Boston to Delaware. I formerly went to Massachusetts Eye and Ear and the treatment I have received at DEI, including two surgical procedures, is in my opinion every bit as good as I received in Boston.
Worked me in quickly as needed. Great care. Great people!
Always a good experience. Seem to move good today from place to place
Doctors are old school--think on a pedestal. Patients are their minions. Over 2 hours late and no apology, explanation or discussion. They won't make it in the real world of modern medicine.
2 hours for a prep apt.
the front desk people are really ignorant and rude!!! doesn't know what they are doing. didn't even ask for the personal information and assume I didn't have a doctor already set up there... it has been like that for last 9 years and has not changed. almost want to go somewhere else because of the bad front desk personnel
There isn't enough nice things I could say about this office. I'd been there before with my grandmother and thought it was nice. From the girl who scheduled all the appointments, mailed everything so meticulously to me, the lady at check in, the nurses who took us all back, the other nurses, Dr. Taylor (what a fantastic doctor! My child has a very uncommon disease and HE WAS AWARE of what it was and the complications. This in itself was so rare to find), the check out lady and a random nurse I saw in the hall- it was THE BEST experience I've ever had. I am beyond impressed. The only regret I had was not coming ton them sooner. I'll never take my family anywhere else, and I'll always recommend them. FANTASTIC!!! Also- we didn't have a long wait, however, when I take my grandmother we usually do wait. But in my opinion, for this great service, I dont mind. They are thorough, and treat you like a priority. If that means we must wait-so be it. It's worth it.
Very fast service, very friendly people. Doctor did great job explaining test results. Could not have been more pleased.
So my uncle went yesterday to have eye surgery Dr. Cook was the surgeon that was to perform the surgery Dr. Cook was so rude with my uncle he wouldn't answer my uncles questions and yelled at my uncle after his pressedure my uncle is an older man and didnt need the disrespect before and after his surgery, I do not recommend Dr. Cook for any eye surgeries on anyone.
I pass this place by frequently and from the outside and appearance, appears to be a great place to go to. I needed to update my prescriptions, and get new contacts. I moved to the area recently, and have been through hotels and several homes, and somewhere along the way lost my last few pairs of contacts. Appointments are far out. I really need new contacts, and my glasses prescription seem to need a correction. I simply wanted to get a pair to hold me over until my appointment a week later. They will not help. Leaving me in a bad situation. This speaks volumes to me about this place. It's no wonder they have such a poor rating. Made one call, got an eye exam scheduled somewhere else, and they even told me to come today to pick up a trial pair until my appointment. I'd give it one star, but the lady on the phone was friendly, and helpful.
