I went to this hospital for my son's eye check up. We had to wait for almost 90 minutes. The nurse is so insensitive. She does not even care. She should not have taking this career. Doctor spent less than a minute to check the issue. I wish there was 0 rating. This hospital sucks.

Dr Kern is very kind and her technology and pediatric practices have worked well for my son. However, Busy is not attractive and there are other pediatric specialists all over the northern VA area. I was told for the first appointment with dilation to plan 2 hours but was not informed that there would be a similar timeline for the follow up with no dilation. Our latest appointment was at 3:15. We arrived on time and were seen at 3:50 by the tech. That was done by 4:05 and we were sent to the second waiting area in the back. Which was standing room only. We have yet to see the doctor and it is 4:55. This is grossly unprofessional. Let's not forget that these are pediatric patients who don't have patience for long waits like this. Additionally, we had a family emergency today and spent the entire morning in the ER with my youngest child. I called and requested to reschedule given this information. I was told that the office would not do this without a $75 fee.

I am so frustrated with this practice at the Sterling location. The desk staff acted like it was an inconvenience to have us here. We were sent for a brain MRI for my four year old which was an ordeal under sedation and after calling several times for the results the next week and being placed on hold for an inordinate amount of time each time, I was brushed off by the receptionist and told to track down the results myself at Fairfax hospital. I had a contrastingly pleasant experience talking to the imaging records desk at Fairfax who immediately assure me the results had been sent, but that I needed to be given them over the phone by the opthomolgist per policy. When I called dr kerns office back again, I was placed on hold for 15 mins after which I had to hang up, and when I called back again moments later, the office was closed! I called back this morning and was again on hold for 15 minutes after which I was questioned twice why I was calling! All this, only to be brushed off with no apology again and told that the doctor was out of the office for the day! Still no results. The MRI was to rule out a brain tumor and I feel as a mom of a young child that my feelings were trampled on by insensitive and rude staff. I have never, ever left a negative review for a doctor before and am not one to complain. However, the experience I have had at the Sterling office was like a gut punch. I will drive twice as long a distance not to go back there again.

Love Dr. Kern! Yes, sometimes the wait is long but there are tons of toys and games for little kids. Plus they're always playing fun music in the lobby. My 18-month old has been seeing Dr. Kern for over a year and we've been really impressed with her down-to-earth approach (she doesn't rush into surgery unnecessarily IMO) and expertise. She clearly knows what she's talking about and is a great listener. Never feel rushed during our appointments with her. Highly recommend.

Dr Kern is wonderful. She and her great staff made bringing my crazy twin boys in for a visit easy. Great bedside manner. Excellent surgeon.

After taking our child here for 5 years to monitor an issue and have surgery, we will not be coming back. Arrived for the 2nd post-op appt 5 mins before 1pm (appt time) office was locked until exactly 1pm. Immediately upon check in, I was presented with a surgical bill and asked to pay. I explained we were currently working with the insurance company regarding a difference in the estimate and the exact cost and I would have to wait until the matter was settled before paying. I was asked to pay a portion at this time and again stated we would not as we were working with the insurance company. Offered to pay the co-pay, but was told that would be taken at the end of the appt. Sat down and waited for the appt to begin. Was called up by the front desk after 5 minutes and told that Dr. Kern had said if I did not pay a portion of the bill at that time I would have to re-schedule the appointment until we did... I did not say a word to the front desk person but explained to my daughter we were leaving and left the office. Come to find out after a brief conversation with my husband that the bill he was working on with the insurance company was the hospital bill and NOT the bill from Dr. Kern as we hadn't even received that yet! A message was left at her office requesting that she please mail a bill for the amount owed to our home and to please call to confirm receipt of the message, but no return call has been made. A week later and we still have not received a bill. Bottom line is this, we've been taking our daughter here for 5 years, have sat thru endless wait times, unapologetic attitudes, rude front desk people, and lack of organization and then to be treated like this? You turn a child away from their 2nd post op visit because her parents hadn’t paid a bill that hadn’t even been sent? Really poor professional choices. We will not be back.

Dr. Kern is amazing but her wait times, before and after dialation, are not.
