Dr. Josephson is excellence personified. I had never even worn glasses and was pretty concerned when I woke with eye pain and blurry vision. After trying a local eye center (very nice people) I was directed to Dr. Josephson who stayed late on a Friday to see me immediately. Dr. Josephson recommended surgery which terrified me but after doing a TON of research and talking to others, I found there is no better cornea specialist in NoVA. Dr. J fit me into his busy surgery schedule by coming in early to work on my eye, answered email questions over the weekend, and was very straight-forward on what to expect in during recovery. I appreciated the candor and knowing what to expect. The surgery itself was fine, and despite initial pain I was prepared for, I am recovering really well. Dr. Josephson did a fantastic job removing a pterygium from my right eye. Prior to the surgery, his staff sent me all the necessary paperwork and were very organized. At the surgery center, Dr. Josephson stopped by to ensure I didn’t have any final questions before I got wheeled back to an operating room. The procedure went very well and I was sent home with a patch covering my eye. The following day the doctor remove my patch and my eye was a little sensitive to light but nothing unbearable. I had very little discomfort from the procedure (although I found that my eye stung the first few days immediately after I put my prescription eye drops in). I was amazed how good my eye looked just a few days after surgery! About two and half weeks later you can’t even tell I had eye surgery! I was so pleased with how well this eye surgery went compared to the last one I had done in my left eye with a different doctor. I would highly recommend Dr. Josephson! He and his staff are the best!

Dr Josephson and his staff are top tier. Both from a customer service standpoint and a professional knowledge. Received PRK corrective surgery in January of 2017. I was briefed in advance of the pre opp, procedure, and post opp. Any and all questions I had were immediately answered regardless of the time or day. The operation was incredibly quick (total of 30 minutes for everything). My wife and I were once again informed of the post opp guidelines to insure everything went well. Six months later, perfect 20/20. Just as a benchmark, I couldn't see past my elbow without it getting blurry before PRK. This surgery is a life changer. Go see these amazing people if you are thinking about getting corrective surgery (Lasik or PRK), need annual checkups, or anything else related to your eyes. You are doing yourself a disservice going anywhere else.

I have been Dr. Josephson's patient for two years and just had my second cataract surgery, this time on the right eye. The left eye surgery, while successful, did not much improve my vision because of damage to my retina experience many years ago. A much different story with my right eye! Dr. Josephson recommended the new, revolutionary, albeit expensive Symfony lens, which mimics the function of a natural eye. My results: spectacular! Worth every dollar! Before surgery, I saw double images at a distance and had difficulty reading street signs and driving at night. No more! My wife had to suffer while I exclaimed across our family room that I could now read the news ticker moving across the bottom of our TV screen. No more glasses! I could not be more pleased. On top of that, Dr. Josephson is not just an excellent surgeon, but a very decent and nice guy! And, no, he did not compensate me for this review!!

I had cataract surgery On September 21, 2018. The operating doctor, Dr. John Josephson, is a great doctor. He explained the whole process in detail before the surgery and put me at ease. The process of the surgery itself was so painless during and after the surgery while I’m recovering now. I could feel his sincerity in his practice. He made my hospital visit so casual that I asked for a hug and gave him a hearty hug during my post-op visit. Upon my request, for my own understanding of the process, he explained the technical details, the laser incision, ultrasound and the whole process of cataract extraction he performed. I highly recommend Dr. Josephson. I had an eye issue i was not sure about, and at the end of the working day, filled out his on-line form after looking on like for an eye specialist. Dr. Josephson is, in my opinion and based on my experiences as his patient, an outstanding Ophthalmologist who restored vision quality to me that I hadn’t had since I was a teenager, which includes the benefit of eliminating the need to wear glasses except for over the counter readers for close up work. Doctor Josephson performed cataract surgery on both of my eyes (the right in Oct. 2016 and the left in Nov. 2016) and restored 20/25 vision in my right eye (which had an off the chart level of astigmatism) and 20/20 in my left eye (which also had a very high level of astigmatism). In addition I am a very untypical patient in that I suffer from Amyloidsis which has caused swelling in my eyelids and I take medication for another illness which causes movement of my Iris. Both of these conditions make cataract surgery all that more difficult but Dr. Josephson executed these procedures flawlessly even though he admitted to me afterwards that I was one of his most challenging patients for the reasons I just outlined. Another point I want to make is that Doctor Josephson was the third Ophthalmologist I had dealt with. The first one said I was “above her pay grade” and the second didn’t think the lenses to correct my astigmatisms were “worth it”, but Dr. Josephson felt confident in treating me and in his ability to correct my astigmatisms. The bottom line is that I highly recommend Dr. Josephson to anyone in need of the services of a quality and caring Ophthalmologist. Trusting your eyes to someone takes a high level of confidence in your doctor and Dr. Josephson is most deserving of that trust.

i am not sure how there are good reviews. We been to this doctor seeing these reviews only for an opinion on pterygium and literally he scared us that i need surgery soon saying that will loose eye sight if i delay it. Its my bad i didnt read much about pterygium. He just gave us 5mins to decide to go for surgery and somehow we agreed for it. So he even didnt explain the different surgery methods for pterygium(that i came to know later). Finally i went through surgery and first month i was OK using steroid eye drops he has given, once i completed the course my eye became very red and when we mentioned to him in another visit, he treated with different eye drops , but it didnt come down and i also saw that pterygium is reoccurring in second month of surgery. In one of the visits he mentioned that he will give a try doing one more surgery on the same eye saying that he will try different surgery method that he didnt do for the first time. In all the visits he never spent more than 2mins to discuss the problem and he also initiated asking us to take an appointment for my another eye surgery. After spending so much of amount for the visits and surgery, i end up going to another doctor to get opinion and i was told that no one loose the eye sight having pterygium and the doctor confirmed that pterygium is growing back.

Dr Josephson did a fantastic job with my cataract surgery on my left eye. I paid a little extra money to get treated with the laser and to get progressive lens as Medicare and my medigap insurance only provided the most basic of services and I'm really glad I did. There was absolutely no pain during the whole procedure, and practically no discomfort after the procedure. I need to schedule cataract surgery on my right eye now and I'm definitely having Dr. Josephson do it. I wholeheartedly recommend his practive!

We selected Dr. Josephson's practice based on the Yelp reviews and location. After an ER visit for an eye infection, the ER doctor told me to see an ophthalmologist within two days. We called several local practices but they could not fit us in. So we did our Yelp search, read Dr. Josephson's reviews and called his office. After explaining our situation to the office manager he called the Dr. to the phone and he spoke with us to gain an understanding of our situation. Then he fit us into his schedule the next day. Our office call was terrific. He diagnosed the condition, recommended a course of treatment and we will follow up with him in a couple weeks. Superb "bedside manner", a well run office and great care. We think we've found our new family ophthalmologist.

I'm writing this review on behalf of my father in-law who had eye surgery done with Dr. Josephson. Now let me start by telling you just how much of a skeptic my father in law is with "newfangled surgical technology" - he began to develop cataracts in both eyes. After doing some research and settling on Dr. Josephson, he insisted on only having one of his eyes done "just in case." Well I'll tell you, coming out of the experience he said that Dr. Josephson was incredible - my father being a tenured senior professor of electrical engineering for many decades needs to understand EXACTLY how things work and Dr. Josephson not only laid out how things work in great detail with the equipment, the surgery and the various types of lens replacements, he also walked him through all of the options he had on the table and the pros and cons of each. Once they settled on the perfect lens for my father in-law, they set a time for the surgery and it went as smoothly as is possible. Dr. Josephson's bedside manner was even better than his transparency and provision of information. Another funny story: Both dr. Josephson and myself are named John - well Dr. Josephson gave my father in-law a call following up after the surgery and was so genuine in concern for my father in-law (and apparently sounds much like me on the phone) that he thought it was me, and had a 15 minute conversation with Dr. Josephson before he realized it was his doctor. While he was incredibly embarrassed, he couldn't believe how genuinely interested Dr. Josephson was in his well being. The result of the surgery was incredible returning perfect, natural sight, enough that my father in law has gone back to night driving and the like with completely confidence and that's with just one eye! It goes without saying that the father in-law is planning on getting the other eye done the first chance he gets! In short, you won't find a better eye doctor/surgeon, not just in this area. Period.

Please, if you have a very complicated cornea problem, seek another doctor who has extensive experience. Otherwise, you'll be offered one surgery after another like a guinea pig to be practiced on. I've learned the hard way, and luckily I found another specialist who my friend referred me to. With only one visit, I've learned so much about how to treat my eye and I saw a big difference in knowledge. I'm sure Dr. Josephson is good in anything to do with a laser, but anything that requires humble care and non-laser cutting is beyond his specialty. I probably wouldn't have written this review, but what upset me the most is that he acknowledged that his procedures were not helping and yet he still listed me as "clear" in the medical charts. The other office I went to saw the problem right then and there. These days so many doctors are making great money, but there are only few that genuinely feel your pain and heal you for your sake, not for the pockets' sake.
