When you see as poorly as I do, you tend to be hypercritical of your eye doctor. I hadn't seen Dr. Simmons before but thought I would give him a shot. I was extremely pleased with the time and patience he showed in finding not just the right type of contact to fit my astigmatic eye but in finding the right type of material that didn't bother me. I had several followup appointments where he tweaked everything until we were both satisfied -- yet he never grumbled over the extra time he spent getting my Rx just right. I would definitely recommend Dr. Simmons and Excell.

I brought my daughter in who had been to Walmart a few years before and she was fitted in contacts for the first time. At Walmart they never offered her a different brand of contacts then the one they put her in. She pretty much was stuck with one type with her astigmatism. The brand was ok, but when my insurance covered a visit with Excel we came to the American Fork one. They were so nice, professional, and there was no wait. We showed them the brand of contacts she was wearing but that we were interested in trying other brands if there were any others. They explained well the small fitting fee she would need to pay to try different ones and that would include the return visits with the Dr. We found out there were different brands and they did all fit and feel differently for her. So it was nice to get options and to finally find a brand that worked better then the one the other place put her in. Our whole family comes here now. Great staff, and Dr's!

I have been extremely disappointed by the service I've received from this place. They told me my glasses and trial contacts would be here on Friday, then when I called they said it would be ready on Tuesday. I called on Tuesday and they said they weren't ready but they would tell the Provo office to rush my glasses and I could pick them up the next day. I called the provo office the next day and they said they wouldn't be ready until the following day. Finally they were ready but the prescription is wrong in my glasses. They said all the receptionists were busy but they would call me back quickly to make another appointment to recheck my prescription. I am not surprised that it's the end of the day and nobody ended up calling me.

Please understand that one star is for the company and not a reflection of the people who work at this perticular location. If that was the case it would probably be five stars. Getting into why I am only rating the company one star, I purchased a frame from Walmart and used Excel to order the lenses. This was done for financial reasons. When I placed the order I was told two weeks. Okay that's normal. When I went to pick them up I was told it would be a couple more days and that I could pick them up on Friday. This was perfect as I have Friday off. I went to get the glasses on Friday and they had lost them. Nobody in this office knew where they were. Only that they had not received them. Provo office was called and nobody there knew what had happened either. I was told they would call me as soon as the glasses were received. They have not called me yet. I called this location. It's closed today. I try calling the Provo location and get a turse reply of I'm busy I'll call you back. I called customer service to speak to someone about the lost glasses and wether or not they had been located. I get location from a computer. Not why I called. I hang up and try again. I was told that wait time was only 2 minutes. Ten minutes later the computer tells me that no one is available to take the call and tells me to leave a message. I try again two more times with the same result. I'm given the estimated wait time and ten minutes later told to leave a message. I think this will be the last time I order glasses from this company.

Dr Simmons is fabulous for treating any eye condition, and for fitting anyone with contact lenses! He takes the time to answer all of your questions, and wants to make sure that you understand exactly his recommendations. The staff is also very knowledgeable, patient, and professional in assisting each patient! This office also has a great selection of frames, especially if you are fussy about your appearance in glasses, No need to go elsewhere for your eye care needs!

Made my first appointment with Dr. Ririe on 7/31/18 they were able to fit me in same day for some concerns I had been having with my vision. I was super happy with the medical assistant and doctor and both seemed knowledgeable and concerned with patient care and comfort. Even better than the service I received was the fact that Excel Eye Center automatically adjusted my bill lower after my insurance rejected it (turns out I don't have vision insurance, my mistake) and gave me the cash price. I'll be recommending them to everyone in the area. Thank you for treating your patients like people and not just revenue.

Okay in office visit. Saw the a tech for most of the time then the Dr. for a few minutes. Billing with them has been terrible. It took them 4 months to get my billing correct and kept blaming my insurance company. They sent me a new bill probably 2 or 3 times. However they were billing it wrong the whole time. After they got the billing correct I then paid the $20 balance remaining. 2 months after I paid the remaining balance they tried billing me again. So the eye exam was okay, but their billing department doesn't know what they're doing. I won't go back to them because of their lack of organization in their billing department.

His office was able to get me in the next day and their hours made it easy for me to finish everything before my normal workday started. Dr Smalley did my cataract and follow up laser surgery. He was recommended by my optometrist. Before I had my surgery at Mountain Point Medical center, the nurse told me that Dr Smalley was the best eye surgeon they had. He is very kind and very much a perfectionist. He took plenty of time with me explaining the injury, and sent me home with everything I needed to heal properly. Took my 5 yo in to get his lazy eye checked out. Bit of an ordeal trying to get the drops in his eyes, but the nurse was super understanding. Dr. Gunther came in and was great about putting the him at ease with his enthusiastic demeanor. He referred us to another doctor at their Orem location who is a pediatric opthamologist. That alone rates 5 stars as I really appreciate any doctor who is willing to defer to someone with greater expertise so as to ensure you're getting optimal care. Definitely will be going back and referring to others. Also, there's a play area in the waiting room and both of my boys got sunglasses on the way out.

I am not happy and this is why. I could not see well out of my new glasses. Excel told me the prescription was right so I took them to another place and they said the prescription was right but they left out three things. The aspheric and grind, the 8 based curve and they didn’t adjust the vertex distance which was 13.75. I saw all three Dr at the American fork center and am now waiting for my third set of glasses

I brought my 5 year old for an eye exam. I also had a 3.5 year old and 11 month old in tow. It was my 5 year olds first ever eye exam and she was nervous and a little excited. You can imagine what waiting in an office with 3 kids under 5 is like. My 5 year old was having trouble with sitting still for one of the screenings. Dr. Simmons came out after a few minutes and in front of his staff members asked someone to help old my 5 year olds head in place “to keep everyone quiet”. I felt very shamed that he said that out loud in front of his staff and my children. There were also other patients walking by when he said that. My children were not sitting robotically, but they weren’t running around either. They were asking questions and being children. Dr. Simmons was out of line. Don’t accept children as patients if you don’t want to hear them.

I have mostly good experiences here although last year's appointment took almost 2 hours because they were unusually busy. Generally speaking the office staff and doctors are really nice and I have felt like it was a good place to go until . . . Before Christmas, I requested that they fax my glasses and contact prescription over to Costco (this was weeks before I left). They did not. I had to call twice to get them to send over the prescription and they only sent the contact prescription. It was too late for me to order and receive the contacts before I left on vacation so they graciously gave me a trial pair to hold me over. The prescription did make it to Costco and I had contacts waiting for me after my vacation. Fast forward to the last couple of weeks when I have repeatedly called and they have repeatedly informed me that they called over my glasses prescription. It is getting so frustrating because they say they are doing it then Costco doesn't have it. So yesterday, they told me I could open a patient portal and I could just print the prescription off of there. Great, I thought! They also said again that they were faxing the prescription. Today=no prescription at Costco AGAIN and to my utter frustration they DID NOT post my glasses prescription. They did however post my contact prescription. WOW! This is beyond ridiculous.

I had been taking my mother to Excel Eye for her eye treatment and exams and was so placed with their caring, timely appointments, and professionalisms that I decided to switch to them for my eye exams and treatment. I had been with my former dr eye for 30 years but after moving, waited someone closer and this was the first place I looked at. I’m very pleased with Dr. Ririe and his entire staff. Joey, his tech, was excellent as he explained each and every step of the exam. Glad I made the change and highly recommend Dr Ririe and his staff at Excel Eye Center.

I have been going to Excel Eye Center for several years and my experience has been nothing less than amazing. The staff is friendly and very helpful--especially Dr. Gunther! He has helped my family with all of our general eye care needs; he even performed a more advanced procedure on one of my Dad's eyes with stellar results. But wait! There's more!! Excel even sells contacts for a bit CHEAPER than Wally World and 1-800-something-or-other and sports a nice selection of glasses, to boot. Moral of the story? Excel Eye Center is good for the soul.

Very disapointed, when I made the appointment I was told they could do a specific thing for me. I made an appointment with Dr.Gunther. I don't even know who did the refractive eye exam but it was not Dr. Gunther. This guy was very UN-thorough, I assumed he was an aid or something, expecting when Dr. Gunther came in he would check what the other guy did. Not so! Dr Gunther did his exam, told me to go to a specialist to have the procedure i requested taken care of, then they both acted like....ok, we are done. Yes I was there to get a new eye glass prescription. Neither the doc or the other guy even asked about glasses, or contacts. The left the room and took me to the reception deck to check out. I was so disgusted by now I just left. Now I have a $200+ bill and absolutely NOTHING was accomplished!

Every visit I feel at ease and comfortable. The wait time has always been minimal, which is very important to me. The staff are super friendly, and helpful. I've gotten all my glasses and sunglasses at their Optical Shop, and they are top quality! I love that I can stop by anytime and get them adjusted and cleaned. I have a fairly serious brain condition that can result in blindness. Comprehensive eye exams are a part of my life, but they always make me nervous since they can potentially trigger a brain MRI and other tests. We moved to Utah County and, after a year, I finally decided to switch from my ophthalmologist in Salt Lake City to Dr. Ririe. I couldn't be more pleased. My whole experience was top rate. Dr. Ririe was thorough and professional. He was also kind and personable. His assistant was great too. I'm glad I will be seeing Dr. Ririe from now on.

I came in for an eye exam for a new contact prescription since mine was becoming expired. I was told he could not write me the same brand as my last contacts. Diagnosed my eyes wrong with a prescription to high in one eye and with an astigmatism I didn't have. After I had purchased contacts that were to blurry to see through, I had to go back in there while I had to wear two right contacts to be able to drive. When I went in I told him I had the lower prescription in both and he told me I fixed the problem myself. Now I am stuck with a prescription that doesn't work for me and is almost blurry every day due to the wrong diagnosis of an astigmatism. I wouldn't recommend this practice and would find somewhere that is going to diagnose you correctly.

It took 3 visits to get the astigmatism, distance and reading correct, along with trying different brands until I felt comfortable. I can see clearly now!!!!
