I came in with a -10 & -12 eyesight and after wearing glasses and contacts for over 20 years and I can finally wake up in the morning and actually see my alarm clock! I wanted to share a recent experience that I believe shows why Slade and Baker Vision Center has such an excellent reputation. Dr. Baker was my eye doctor from the time I was a child until I moved away from Texas in the mid 1990s for college. I still trust in his opinion and could only hope for some insight from his nurse after being told by my new doctor in FL that I need 3 eye surgeries. Not only did Dr. Baker remember me, but he called personally to discuss my case and offer insight. This is the type of doctor we should all have. It makes me want to drive to Houston just to see him. While doing the pre-op consultation Dr. Walton recommended I consider Lasik for my other eye to help fine tune my distance vision. Was he right, it has already made a great difference, and I already can see the difference. Everyone was great from the doctors to the staff that helped calm my nerves during the procedure. In less than 20 minutes of surgery they have made a life changing difference for me. Dr. Walton did my SMILE (left eye) and LASIK (right eye) and did an incredible job. His bedside manner was calming and informative through the whole process. He spent a ton of time with me answering any and all questions that I had. He even called the evening of my procedure to check on how I was doing. My vision is amazing now. I tested 20/16 on the day after my procedure when I was terribly blind before. If you need correction, why not see the office that has been part of the clinical trials for FDA approval?

I had a great experience here! All of the staff are extremely professional and knowledgeable. Dr. Walton did my LASIK procedure recently and the next day I had 20/12 vision - it was a huge success. They measure your eyes multiple times to make sure they get the curvature just right. I couldn't be happier with the results. Great British Baking show on Netflix in the waiting area was a nice touch as well :)

After all the research I had done on LASIK, I walked into Dr. Slade's office confident he would be the one to perform my procedure since he seemed like the best choice and price did not matter when it came to my eyes. Yet, I walked out uncomfortable and distrusting of the care that would be provided by the members of his clinic. Disappointed beyond belief. I never met Dr. Slade and may never will because my visit at his clinic was not a pleasant experience. I have never experienced being treated so poorly by a medical doctor or anyone in the medical field. I am saddened that a member of his office reacted to my questions with such vague, under-minding arrogance and a tone of annoyance. He insulted me by under-minding my ability to comprehend information pertaining to my inquiries. His unwillingness to build my confidence in the facility by providing answers unspecific to me, unless prodded was extremely uncomfortable. For many people, inquiring about medical procedures is difficult, intimidating and a confusing topic to understand as well as discuss with a specialist and that is why the medical industry encourages individuals to educate themselves and brave enough to ask questions. It is even encouraged in their consent form so, naturally I would be thrown back by his reaction. These were the same question I asked other MDs in his field. They were ALL receptive to my questions and provided clear and satisfying answers which would naturally build my confidence in the care that would be offered. Medical providers who refuse to present respectful customer service and appear to be jaded by their profession should not claim to be professionals. He should advocate patient's right to know not discourage it.

I was contacted by Slade & Baker to participate in a clinical study. Though initially skeptical that this would be a type of bait-and-switch where they tell me I am not eligible for the study, but a great candidate for Lasik and it will only cost $____, I was pleasantly surprised to find out I had been accepted into the study. While I am pleased with the initial results of the procedure (I was very highly myopic with mild astigmatism and had previously been told I was not a candidate for Lasik), what I want to talk about is how wonderful the staff is. I have been seen promptly for every appointment, and questions and concerns have been actively solicited from me, and adequately and honestly addressed. In particular, Chadisty and Dr. Essa have been wonderful. I did not meet Dr. Slade until about half an hour before my procedure, but upon meeting him, I had the fullest confidence that he had thoroughly studied my case and knew what he was doing. Despite being one of the most famous ophthalmologists in the world, he was incredibly personable, genuinely concerned with my eyes, and again, gave me every bit of his attention to address any concerns I had. During the surgery, he was very re-assuring and had me at complete ease within 30 seconds. Had I chosen to seek out Lasik on my own, I would have paid Dr. Slade top dollar to perform my surgery, as I do not think there is anyone more qualified in the United States.

Went in for a LASIK consultation, I was a good candidate for eye surgery but needed a current eye exam. They did the eye exam, absolute best and most thorough eye exam I have ever had. A week later I was back for my eye surgery, it was a great experience. The staff did everything possible to calm any nervousness and make sure I was as comfortable as possible. Dr.Walton was wonderful and very knowledgeable, he did a great job explaining my options and their procedures and answering any question I had. I chose to have the SMILE procedure and I was very confident in his ability to perform the surgery successfully. After, I went home and went to sleep as recommended; in the evening, Dr.Walton called to check on how I was doing and to make sure all was well and asked if I had any questions/concerns. Before the surgery my prescription was something like L -3.00 and R -2.50, not even 24 hrs after surgery I was seeing 25/20. I now see 20/20. Best money ever spent. I will never go anywhere else for any eye concerns I have. I whole-heartedly recommend them to any and everyone. They really are the absolute best.

When you walk into a Doctors office you always wonder how fast you will be seen and how well you will be treated. I recently had LASIK and SMILE surgery done and I had to make two office visits. One to get measurements and one for the surgery. Both of those times were simply amazing. I have never met that many nice people in my life at a Doctors office. From the beautiful front counter receptionist all the way to the Doctors themselves everyone had a kind heart. They didn't seem like any other office where employees wanted to get their hours and go home. They always looked as if it was home for them and did everything in their power to make me feel at home and comfortable. Even during the surgery a nurse sat beside me and held my hand. She didn't have to pull my hands out of my pockets, but she did and that gave me all the the reason to believe that I was in the best of hands. This review should come as no surprise to anyone who has ever visited our clinic. I had LASIK with Dr. Walton on Friday and I could not be more ecstatic! I woke up this morning, 1 day after surgery, with better vision than I had with glasses or contacts. I would admit that I’m biased because I work at this clinic but I genuinely don’t think that’s the case. I’m the research coordinator for Slade & Baker so I work directly with the doctors and have seen them perform a multitude of surgeries. In every surgery the doctors treat each patient with the full care and detail that Dr. Walton did for me. If you’re even considering refractive surgery, please let us take care of you the same way I was taken care of!

I had resolved that I was going to be one of those people who would forever be in glasses. I was so squeamish about my eyes that I NEVER could get a contact in. When I visited Slade and Baker, from the very onset I knew this was the place for people like me. If I can do it, anyone can! The entire staff here is warm, welcoming, patient, and most of all very encouraging. This from the very moment I walked in the door. Dr. Essa was the first who told me that I could do this! I also interacted with Dr. Baker and found him the be extremely helpful and knowledgeable. Dr. Slade did my actual surgery (LASIK) and I can’t express in words how quick, easy, and painless it was. He was fantastic. Their staff is also very amazing! I can’t remember all of their names, but I MUST say that Corina was absolutely AMAZING!!!!! Corina is the main reason for my 20/20 vision! She helped get me through, and never complained when I kept blinking during the pre-opt tests :) My only complaint is that I didn’t do this sooner!

I had Laser Vision Correction (specifically PRK) performed by Dr. Otis Bennett Walton two weeks ago. I do not typically write reviews for places or services, but am taking the time to do so today to describe the incredible experience I had at Slade & Baker and specifically with having Dr. Walton in operation of the laser. I could write several pages describing how amazing it is to go from being a glasses/contact wearer to being able to see better than perfect (and yes, I can now see better than I have ever been able to see in my life). However, if you're reading this right now, you are probably trying to decide if you should use Slade & Baker or Dr. Walton for a Laser Vision Correction on your eyes. I could have gone anywhere to receive this procedure, but I went to who I believed was the best. If Dr. Walton was not already located in my home city, I certainly would have taken a flight anywhere in the country to have this procedure performed by him and surrounded by his staff. You see, when I received the PRK procedure, it wasn't only about having a final outcome of perfect vision. It was also about feeling confident and comfortable throughout the whole process. It is intimidating laying on your back and having a giant piece of equipment hover over your head that more or less burns through the surface of your eyeballs. Dr. Bennett Walton and his friendly coworkers made this process as stress-free and comfortable as they possibly could have. I am confident that this positive and comforting environment made a difference in my vision outcome, as it allowed for me to remain still and have a full understanding of the procedure as it was happening. Every step of the way I was told what was happening next. I was told what I was about to feel. And I was treated with dignity and respect throughout -- I truly felt as though my well-being was the team's number priority every step of the way. To top it all off, I had a follow-up appointment a few days after the surgery. It happened to be a day in Houston with 20 degree temperatures and sleet and ice on the streets. Most all of the staff reported for duty that day putting the well-being of their patients first. AND they even shared donuts with their patients (icing on the cake, right?). I would [no questions asked] refer my family, friends, and strangers to Slade & Baker and Dr. Walton for Laser Vision Correction and any other ophthalmology need.

And that's why I trusted my Lasik procedure to the doctors at Slade & Baker. Research their doctors, look at their accolades and achievements. Read all the reviews. You will find nothing but rave reviews. You can't go wrong with any of these doctors doing your Lasik procedure. I have 20/20 vision now after being near-sighted with astigmatism since I was in 3rd grade. To wake up now with clear vision and not deal with glasses or contacts to me feels like something short of a miracle. And the whole procedure was so pleasant from the initial consultation with Dr. Essa, to the actual procedure with Dr. Slade, and the staff being so comforting all throughout. There's no doubt in my mind if I had to do it over again, I would definitely use Slade & Baker Vision.

Slade and Baker was the only place I was considering for my LASIK experience. It also helped that they were the only one to consider me a candidate for the procedure. I was very nervous for the whole experience but the day of surgery, Vivi was with me the whole time and reassured me everything would be ok a hundred times. The overall procedure lasted 10 minutes and 30 seconds. I won't lie, it was pretty uncomfortable but that has nothing to do with S&B. I walked off the table and could already tell a difference in my vision. I have had no pain and can currently see 20/40 a month after surgery. I went from +1.75/-4 and +2.75/-5 to being a functioning human being, glasses free. It has been a great experience, just very expensive.

These doctors are clearly some of the best in the business and it shows at ever part of the process. They are also really humble about it. 3 YEAR UPDATE: I followed up with Salde and Baker 3 years later for some questions and concerns. Once I made it into the office Dr. Slade was very helpful. He and everyone at the office made sure all my questions and concerns were addressed and that I was happy. It's great to know you are working with a team that not only has years of experience, but also takes customer satisfaction very seriously, even 3 years later! ORIGINAL: I had PRK for both eyes at Slade and Baker, the only thing I regret is not doing it sooner! Everyone one there was very nice, polite, informative, and helpful. They were very patient with me even though I probably asked so many crazy questions, from billing, the procedure, aftercare and everything in between. I especially liked how they were over accommodating in all my follow ups to ensure I had the best recovery. They even opened up the office on a Saturday morning for me when I was feeling some discomfort and wasn't sure if it was normal (I was fine, so it was just me being paranoid). I'm sure like pretty much everyone, my vision is very important to me, so I'm so glad I put my eyes in the hands of the best. I would say the price seems slightly higher than average, but it includes all your pre op and post op appointments, so I definitely think it was worth the price.

I went in for a LASIK consult and was told I was probably a better candidate for PRK surgery by Dr. Essa. I mentally prepared for PRK (longer recovery), and showed up to surgery day. On the day of surgery, Dr. Slade said my eyes were good to go for LASIK, so that's what I got instead. VERY pleased with my surgery and care from the Slade and Baker team. They really look at each patient individually and decide what will be best for their particular set of eyes, even up to the last hour before surgery! I highly recommend going to this team for your surgery. They were always available to answer questions, and ease my nerves, and made the process as easy to schedule, and as hassle-free, as possible. If you're getting eye surgery, this is a great place to go.

Went in for LASIK in November and had the procedure done by Dr. Walton. Was -9 on the left and -8 on the right. I have never been able to walk around without my contacts or glasses before the procedure. A day after I could see everything so clear! Dr. Slade was very helpful in answering all my questions regarding the pros and cons of "epi-on" vs. "epi-off" cross-linking. If you have keratoconus you should look into this procedure because it stops the progression of the disease. It is safe, but not yet FDA approved in the US. However, Dr. Slade is performing cross-linking for patients through a study. Set up an appointment to see if you qualify.

Everyone from the front seat, nurses, and all the doctors made me feel like I was important and they were willing to spend as much time as I wanted to answer any question I had. What an amazing team!! Expertise, compassion, knowledge, and professionalism are just a few words to describe Dr Slade and his team. Upon discovering,after developing an eye infection that I had cataracts I began, as a health care provider, talking to leaders around the country in both health care and the vision industry. Dr Slade was identified as "the national leader" in the removal of cataracts and restoration of the best vision possible. At the first visit I was impressed with his methodical approach, attention to details, and genuine concern for my care. This sentiment pervades the program! From the attention you receive at the front desk ( from Daniel), to the care plan review and preparation by Dr Baker and his team, to Tami's and Cindy's help in scheduling and organizing your surgery, to the preop and operative team with Dan et al (the anesthesia was so great I can't recall all the names!),only scratch the surface as to how well this program delivers. Knowing the limitations of any medical treatment that is related to individual patient health and in particular my given pathology, I had realistic expectations of some improvement. The results have far exceeded my expectations!!

I am writing to amend my initial review.After first scheduling and appointment to see Dr Slade to discuss Corneal Crosslinking and never seeing him, I was very disappointed. Even though someone else did this procedure, Dr Slade has called several times well after hours and e-mailed me several times to discuss where the problems had occurred on that day, how they have been resolved, and more importantly just to discuss the problem of Keratoconus, corneal ectasia and to make sure I had resolved the problem and did I still need further help. He also wanted to reassure me that if I had further problems, I should consider returning to his office to show how well his office could perform. I have been extremely impressed with the time he took even though he did not perform the procedure. So I have changed my Rating.

Total professionalism was experienced from each person with whom I interacted. Visual acuity is very important to me. As a result, I felt fortunate to be able to take advantage of the Light Adjustable Lenses offered here for my cataract surgery. While these lenses require a significant investment in time and money, they have enabled me to have a level of visual acuity that my contact lenses were not able to provide prior to the cataract surgery. Everyone here showed concern for my comfort at each step throughout the process. I experienced no pain during both the surgery and the subsequent lens adjustments. This is a top tier organization. I give them my highest recommendation for all of the services that they offer.

Several years ago Dr. Baker guided me to a successful Lasik with Dr. Slade after I had two unsuccessful Lasiks by another doctor. Dr. Slade also did successful cataract surgery a year ago. I recently had the same successful experience I had with Dr. Slade with Dr. Walton concerning a procedure to correct extremely dry eyes. Dr. Walton didn't give up until he found a solution for me. The Slade and Baker Vision Center staff was excellent. From the first phone call to leaving the office was outstanding. Very professional and friendly staff. One of the most efficient doctors office I have been to, but of coarse my vision is back. At first being -6.50 and -7.50 I was little worried lasik couldn't fix my eyes, but rest assured Dr. Slade made it happen. Would recommend it anyone, even if you live outside of Houston. Money well spent.

The first time I went to the Baker Vision Center I was really surpised at how attentive the staff was. The young lady whom I spoke to on the phone gave me clear directions to the office. I was treated within the hour upon arrival. My Dr. was very responsive to the concerns I had before my surgery. I will be revisiting for a follow up in 6 weeks. I had my LASIK/SMILE surgery about 2.5 weeks ago at Slade & Baker. I have extremely high myopia (about -9) and astigmatism (-3). I went to a few other doctors before I went to slade & baker, they all told me I wasn't a good candidate for LASIK and my option was ICL which would have cost me around $10k. I was hopeless and almost went through with it. Then I came across Slade & Baker, who was conducting a clinical study for SMILE procedure. I was aware that the SMILE technology has been approved outside the US for many years, but it's yet to be approved by the FDA. They took me in for extensive testing/evaluations on my eyes, and thankfully I qualified. I honestly had never met such great people in my life. Cindy was so helpful throughout the process, I could feel that she truly wanted the best for me. Chadisty and Dr. Essa have also been so helpful and friendly. I had my left eye performed SMILE and right eye LASIK. I didn't meet Dr. Slade until right before my surgery, who seemed very experienced and knowledgeable. The actual procedure lasted maybe 1 min or 2. There was even a nurse holding my hand to put me at ease. The procedure changed my life. I can see clearly with my LASIK eye now and my SMILE eye can see well but still recovering (which is the difference between SMILE and LAISK). I can't wait till it fully recovers. I can't thank the whole staff enough!
