I never write reviews. Even when I find a product or service to be overwhelmingly good or bad, I have never been moved enough to invest my time and effort into writing a review. Until now.
I have spent the past 40 years of my life suffering from terrible vision. Whether it was my impossibly thick glasses from second grade, needing a waiver to join the military or my debilitating cataracts, some form of vision related issue has always prevented me from living a normal life. I tried Lasik but was told that my corneas were too thin. I had completely given up hope of ever having normal vision and being able to see everything that life has to offer.
So when Dr. Huff confidently told me that he could not only remove my cataracts but also correct my vision I was understandably skeptical. A same-day procedure for each eye with no pain and instant results? It sounded too good to be true. But when he informed me that he had successfully performed the same procedure the week before on two patients whose eyes were twice as bad as mine (I was a negative 12 diopters, they were both negative 24) I had to see for myself. It was one of the best decision I’ve ever made.
The operations, as promised, were both quick and painless. My old, biological and cataract-clouded lenses were removed and replaced with TECNIS Symfony IOL Toric lenses to account for my astigmatisms. A co-worker of mine had a similar procedure at another clinic but the Technis lenses weren’t an option for him. It’s definitely in your best interest to research which lenses you want before picking a doctor because the optometrist he went to didn’t offer as many choices as Dr. Huff. The procedures are done a few weeks apart. In both cases I was already seeing better as I was rolled out of the operating room and my vision only improved as the lenses settled into place over the following weeks. Even following the operation there was never any pain, not even aspirin level, but you will have several eye drops to manage. A small price to pay for finally having great vision.
So what about the results? In a word: miraculous. Let’s take my bad eye. It went from -12 diopters (which is severe nearsightedness) with an astigmatism and a 3.something cataract (the scale only goes to 4) to seeing 20/15 without glasses or contacts or anything. I do need reading glasses for reading very small print but that’s by choice. The lenses come in two varieties: far-mid range and far-near range. It’s possible to do a different one for each eye, which I had at first considered, but I fell so in love with what I could see after the first surgery I just had to get another far-mid. I’ve also read about people having trouble getting used to the different ranges while researching the issue, similar to people having trouble adapting to using bifocals. Occasional use of reading glasses is nothing compared to finally being able to watch a sunset over the lake in all its glory. I just cannot recommend this procedure enough.
If you plan to do it, there are simply no better hands to be in than Dr. Huff’s. He’s the guy that teaches everyone else how to do it. He’s both knowledgeable and personable and takes a great interest in getting his patients matched up to the perfect procedure for their issues. His staff is friendly and professional and the facilities are top notch. I put this procedure off for a LONG time and I now regret every minute of my procrastination. I kept telling myself that my eyes were too bad and that there was nothing that could be done but I’m happy to say that I was very mistaken. If your vision has degraded to the point where you’ve stopped driving at night or in the rain then it’s time to take your life back and get your eyes done. Stop subjecting yourself to poor vision- life’s too short. It can be fixed!
