I went for a late night appointment and experienced nothing but friendly and helpful service. Whether it was selecting my new pair of glasses or my eye exam it was nothing short of a good experience.
Excellent service, from the front desk to the Doctors. A great choice of beautiful frames too!
Terrible, terrible, terrible. Worst experience I've ever had with a company in Corvallis. If you value your time or money, do not step foot inside Valley Eye Care.
I would like to boast on behalf of Dr. Hale and his staff"s service and the quality eye wear that is offered. I just recently purchased my third pair of glasses and cannot say enough about how timely, professional and thorough the eye exam was including the time to review the results of the exam and the opportunity to ask questions. Congratulations to all who work to make my time at Valley Eye Care a most pleasant experience, I would recommend them to anyone for their eye care and products! Don Orwick
Absolutely awful. It took me three months to finally get my contacts prescription (I had to come in three times to ask for it) and it was incorrect. They also didn't tell me beforehand about the eye dilation during the routine exam: you either have to get your eyes dilated (covered by insurance) or pay out of pocket for the scanner ($37). I won't be going back.
I went to Valley eye care because I needed a new eye doctor. Also my eyes have changed and I knew the prescription needed updating. I also wanted a fresh stylish new pair of glasses. I have several friends and family members who recommended I go there so I already had high expectations. I have had difficult complex eye issues since childhood. I have had good eye care professionals and at times in my life not so good. First of all I want to compliment Dr. Hale. He is a thorough doctor. He is very detail oriented by nature. I cannot Say enough about how important it is for good eye care to have a doctor that is not just thorough but intuitive. I enjoyed all of the people I interacted with. I found my new home for eye care. I want to speak to the costs. I know we don’t all have unlimited financial resources. However our eyes should be a priority. I cannot imagine life without my eyes ! Frankly you get what you pay for. Although I did not find Valley eye care to be expensive compared to others, I will gladly pay for quality. Valley eye care is quality. I highly recommend them.
The insurance didn't cover that much. They still charge a 40 dollars for the bill when I came. Doctor James were fine and easy going with you. With enough patience and helpful.
Tried to custom order some frames from them. They told me on Monday that they would have the frames within a week for me to look at. I called back Friday just to see if they came in and the person answering the phone sounded confused when I gave her my name. She eventually told me that they would be in after about another week. I asked if they had, in fact, been ordered on Monday. She said yes. Called back the following Monday on a hunch and asked when my order was placed. Answer: Friday afternoon. Cancelled the order and told them I don't appreciate being lied to. Businesses should be careful about customer service now that reviews are readily available with a simple Google search.
3 months booked out and no reminder calls Nice staff tho
I can not tell you how wonderful Dr. Hale and his staff are. They're hard-working and kind and will gladly go above and beyond to help out. Dr. Hale assisted me in an emergency when no other local eye specialist were willing/able to. Strongly recommend Valley Eye Care. PS: all these negative reviews here sound like they're written by costco employees.
I took my 7 year old to see Dr. Hale when she started complaining about headaches and blurred vision. The office staff, medical professionals, and doctor were outstanding.
I had my eyes examined for the first time here, and my experience was positive. It reminded me of visiting the dentist (note that I enjoy dental exams, for me this was a good thing). The staff was friendly and professional. I enjoyed the amount of control I had over my options and the lack of scare tactics/salesmanship. I'm definitely making valley eye care my primary eye care facility as long as I reside in Corvallis.
During my last routine eye exam, Dr. Arthurs spotted a problem with my retina that even the retina-specialist-resident-in-training at OHSU's Casey Eye Institute couldn't detect. Only when I saw the head of retinal surgery there, did they confirm what Dr. Arthurs saw, and they did immediate surgery on my eye. If Dr. Arthurs hadn't spotted the problem so early, it would have gotten much worse and been a more serious surgery. Thank you, Dr. Arthurs.
I am a student at OSU originally from Southern Oregon. I was nervous about coming to Valley Eye Care center because I have only had one optometrist in my life. The doctor I went and saw was phenomenal! I had a major eye infection for the past couple weeks and I finally went in and saw Dr. Hale. The whole clinic took care of me and I was in and out in an hour! I ended up having to get new glasses (which I got that day) and a whole eye exam. Later that week, my eyes were healing fast, so my new glasses weren't matching up to my eye sight. I called up Dr. Hale and let him know I wasn't able to see. He personally went to the Valley Eye Care (on his day off) and delivered new contacts to my doorstep on this snowy day! If that doesn't say that Valley Eye Care doesn't care about their patients, than I don't know what will. Thank you so much Dr. Hale! You're the best.
I've been seeing Dr. Arthurs for two years now. She is great; always very patient and helpful and seems genuinely happy to be there. The staff and assistants are another story however. Everyone seems to dislike dealing with customers. I felt unwelcome at times and some kind of tension seemed to hang in the air. Dr. Arthurs is absolutely the reason I keep going back.
Dr. Hale was a lifesaver! Valley Eye Care was my optometrist home when I used to work in Corvallis. I was back in town for a OSU Beavers game and forgot both my glasses and a spare set of contacts (I wear dailies) but didn't realize it until Sunday! And I cannot see without them. Well I called Valley Eye Care's emergency line not knowing what else to do and Dr. Hale stopped in the clinic on his way to his son's soccer game in Portland and left some trials for me to pick up at no cost. Thank goodness for Dr. Hale and for my sister picking them up for me! Valley Eye Care and Dr. Hale went above and beyond and I'm just a former patient.
Sally is amazing. We were visiting from San Diego and my nephew had an infection and we called for an appt. Sally found a cancellation for the next day! He also required glasses and she found a place that could make him a pair the same day. We are so grateful. Thank you Sally.
Valley Eye Clinic came highly recommended by a friend, and Dr. Jim Hale and his staff conducted a thorough and pleasant exam with me. The front desk staff was among the most helpful I've experienced in health care--they processed my paperwork, proactively worked with my insurance company, and followed up with me. It was an excellent experience!
I go into valley eye care because my screw holding in my lenses on my glasses fell out and I don’t have the tools to put it back in. The lady upfront was not helpful at all informing me that it would be 30 dollars just to put in a screw because I didn’t buy my glasses there. 30 dollars! What a rip off. It’s not like I didn’t have the screw either, I had everything they needed except for the tiny glasses screw driver. They don’t even have the screw driver for purchase. The moral of this story is, if you didn’t buy your glasses from them, just go to Fred Myers down the road and buy a screw driver for like 2 bucks. It’ll save you from putting $30 into a greedy company.
I have never had anything but great experiences here. I have a very strong prescription so I have to come to the eye doctor regularly. The staff is very helpful and Dr. Hale is so kind. Thank you! Ashley Rollins
First time I bought glasses there, they messed up the frames. When I tried them on to test they fit perfectly, but after they put the lenses in the frame was bent out of shape. I tried to explain to them the frames were bent but they just kept moving the nose pads around and telling me to get used to it. Next, I had a scratch on my lens and went to get it fixed because I was under warranty. When the new lens arrived and I went to get it replaced, they made me wait over an hour without any explanation, and then come and tell me they broke the frames when installing the new lens. Considering my experience, I suppose I should be thankful they will replace the broken frame -- the frame they broke. Once it is, I will be taking my business elsewhere. You should too.
The front office staff are always helpful. The team of opticians here make it worth returning. As someone who relies on glasses, a good optician is important.
We have an acquaintance who is losing his vision from glaucoma that routine eye examines would have caught. His vision seemed fine so he hadn't had an eye examine for years so I'm making SURE I go for regular visits! Second, I had a pair of glasses that just didn't work. They worked with me until they fit my need even though the change was quite different than the original prescription.
In my case they were very professional. They did a great work replacing my broken frames by a new pair. Thank you very much.
They helped me out with my first pair of glasses and were super friendly the whole time. About 3 weeks later I accidentally bent my frames and I brought them in for repair. They saw me immediately and fixed them perfectly.
HORRIBLE! NEVER GO HERE. Staff is incompetent and the doctor that I did see (Robert Young) had NO patience with me and was always 20+ minutes late to see me. I have had to reschedule appointments just because they are running so late. ON TOP OF THAT, THEY ARE KNOWINGLY RIPPING PEOPLE OFF. It's all about the money for them! I liked my trial lenses of Acuvue Oasis so I proceeded to go through with ordering a year supply. When I went to pick them up, they only had four boxes which I knew from prior research on these lenses that four boxes are ONLY good for a 6 months as these lenses are supposed to be changed once every two weeks! Thank god I did my research online to find how out how often to change them out. When I made note of this fact to the lens "technician" she proceeded to tell me to "just clean them" so I can extend their wear for a month making my four boxes last, but the fact is that I PAID FOR AN ENTIRE YEAR! WHAT PROFESSIONAL MEDICAL OFFICE WOULD TELL THEIR PATIENTS TO IGNORE THE LENS INSTRUCTIONS?! When I called them to see how to go about getting a refund, the staff (Brittany) hung up on me and didn't even offer to make things right and give me the other four boxes to make a real years perscription. HORRIBLE PEOPLE. Please save yourself the trouble of refunds with your insurance company and any out of pocket costs and stay away from this place!
I just had my annual exam with Dr. Hale. I really appreciate his attention to detail and friendly service staff. I wouldn't trust my eye's to anyone else. Brian Donne
I went here for a general eye exam and to get contact lens. I have already had contacts, but the brand wasn't working for me. They took my insurance for the eye exam, but refused to prescribe me a different brand of contacts without paying another 80 dollars for a separate "fitting" appointment. So I'm stuck with contacts I can't wear and I refuse to pay twice for the same exam. Choose somewhere else.
I had a really great experience! New patients should expect to spend an hour here for an appointment. I interacted with about 5 different staff members in the course of my appointment and every one of them was extremely nice and courteous. I felt like Dr. Hale was interested in my needs and eye health. The other staff were very helpful with my questions. Overall I was very pleased and will definitely return! Love my new glasses!
Worst experience with a health care provider I've ever had. Here is my experience: To begin with, I was really put off by the $194 price for the exam. After a few minutes into the exam, the technician told me it would be an additional $34 if I wanted the eye imaging as opposed to the painful dilation drops. I asked her why they didn't discuss this with me on the phone before I made the appointment. Dilating someone's eyes all day is a big deal, especially if they are driving and working outside in the sun. I told the woman I was a patient, not a customer. I felt like I was in a car dealership, not a doctor's office. I told the doctor and his tech I was on my last pair of contacts, and didn't have a backup pair of glasses. They gave me a trial pair of lenses, but one was not the right power because they were out. So, I've had migraines every day for the last 5 weeks. Thats right, 5 weeks and my contacts have not arrived. I'm flying out of town tomorrow due to a death in the family, and will be out of state for 2-3 weeks. So, I call the doctor's office to ask about my contacts today. They tell me they never ordered any contacts!! They offer to give me another trial pair of lenses, but they don't have a pair in the correct power. The woman in the office argued with me that they didn't know I wanted contacts! I could NOT believe this!!! I signed a form allowing them to obtain my old records so they could order the right brand. I was told that I would get a phone call after they obtained my records and the contacts arrived. I'm in utter disbelief. I will be wasting my time looking for new lenses in another state, instead of consoling my grieving family. Thanks, Valley Eye Care, for 5 weeks of migraines, and several more to come. Enjoy my hard earned money.
I have been seeing Dr. Young for probably 15 years now. I have always been very pleased with the attentive service provided by his staff. I think Dr. Young is an excellent eye doctor. He keeps his equipment up-to-date so that I know I'm getting the best exam possible. He is very personable and always has time to answer questions, explain my exam results, explain any possible future issues I may have, and repeat his answers when I don't understand something. He is friendly and I always feel that he treats me like a person, not just a paycheck. I am at the point in life where I should get reading glasses. We talked about that and I mentioned the expensiveness of his glasses - frames and so forth - and he recommended I go to a drug store and get the "over the counter" reading glasses. I truly appreciated that honesty. I am extremely pleased with the service. I recommend this business to anyone who needs their eyes examined by professional and caring personnel. I would like to say that I have very limited insurance for eye exams and nothing for the eyeglasses. The only reason some of the eye exam is covered is because I have diabetes. I think the money I pay for my annual eye exams is well worth it. I'd rather spend the money on exams than personal care after becoming blind. In response to folks who complain about the cost of his frames and finished glasses - - - if you don't like to pay for the expensive frames, don't buy them. The prices are clearly labeled on the frames. Also, people should notice that most of the frames are the designer-type frames. I think if someone will shop around for the same designer frames, they would find that the prices are very, very similar. If a person wants an very inexpensive set of glasses, then go to one of those other places. When I thought I might like to get a pair of reading glasses from Valley Eye Care and I discovered the cost would be nearly $300, I told the person helping me that it was too much money because I was afraid my prescription would change too quickly or that the prescription would not be accurate when I received the new glasses. He said that Valley Eye Care was committed to getting my glasses to fit properly and with the correct prescription - even if that means re-doing the lenses. In response to any complaints about the waiting time - - - this is a doctor's office and just like a Primary Care doctor, we should expect possible delays. We don't like waiting but how would you feel if the doctor discovered a problem but you exceeded your 20 minute visit so he just tells you to leave? Complications or unexpected events happen. Let's be grateful that Dr. Young (and his staff) take the time to thoroughly investigate one's vision.
I do not recommend this place. The doctors working there are very nice but the other people taking care of other stuffs such as glasses / your insurance budget are irresponsible. Also, this place is very expensive. Their business model is not focused to benefit the patients the most based on the patient insurance budget. Their business model is based on maximum profit for their own pocket. Here is my experience : I went there to get new daily contact lenses and get my glasses adjusted. To me, having daily contact lenses had a much higher priority. I ended up spending ALL my insurance budget on my glasses while my main goal was to get daily contact lenses. Beside that no one told me you should have the trial contact lenses on your eyes during following check ups. They also forgot to setup following check up appointment. So finally I paid $70 out of my pocket to get 90 daily contact lenses. Guess what ? When I went there to pick up my lenses, it turned out they have ordered lenses just for my Right eye !!! Can you believe that ? These people even don't know that people have TWO eyes !!!!!! Valley Eye Care is really irresponsible !!! DO NOT TRUST THEM
I've used Dr. Young for many years and he is great. The front desk people will make you crazy. It's not worth the pain.
Both my partner and I have contacted Valley Eye Care with eye emergency situations. In my partner's case, she called the office of the doctor she was seeing and that office actually referred her to the Valley Eye Care clinic because it was a Saturday. She is now a new patient at VEC. I, too, had an emergency, called and was seen the same day. The staff is friendly and both Dr. Hale and Dr. Arthers are professional and caring. I would highly recommend this clinic.
I Love seeing!!
Very expensive place. I do not recommend this place.
For over 20 years I have had excellent service from Valley Eye Care, especially Dr. Knutson, and now Dr. Arthurs. Dr. Arthurs has been proactive in referring me to resources, and those have all been positive experiences. The reception & billing staff are prompt and knowledgeable. The assistants and glasses fitters have also been great and explain procedures well. The office is clean and organized. I highly recommend Valley eye Care.
The staff is really rude. I do not recommend this place to anyone.
Dr. Hale and the staff are superb. Everything is explained in as much detail as you want. Were it not for Dr. Hale I'd likely have no reading vision in my right eye. He picked up on something others had missed and referred me to a retina specialist (Dr. Gary Servais - also excellent) who remedied the situation.
I have had many years of positive experience with Valley Eye Care. Dr. Knutson has been helpful and patient over the period and the staff has been, as well. With respect to selection of glasses and help with my numerous efforts to break/lose/damage them, I have dealt mostly with Allan (sp?) and appreciate his upbeat demeanor and advice. Others on the staff have been similarly impressive. My recent introductory visit with Dr. Arthurs and McKenzie continued the fine, professional tradition of this office.
Excellent care by staff and Dr. Hale! I highly recommend Valley Eye Care in Corvallis.
Everyone at Valley Eye Care was extremely nice and attentive. They provided an excellent choice of eye wear, and were quick about getting the prescriptions in. They also have great hours (open after 5, and on Saturday), which is really nice for most people who work 8-5.
It's amazing that some people are leaving poor reviews because of insurance, their inability to show up to their own appointment, and being charged for servicing glasses purchased out-of-house. I have been a patient for over two years and have always been satisfied with Valley Eye Care's professional and courteous staff. They are nice, patient, and helpful. Highly recommend!
I've been seeing Dr. Hale for several years now. He is extremely thorough and brought to my attention my high risk of narrow angle glaucoma. When I began having symptoms, I knew what was happening due to his description of what to watch for. He was willing to see me off-hours to treat me and was prompt to refer me to a specialist when it was beyond his expertise. I am confident with his care.
Friendly staff with hours that work with my 8-5 schedule!
RUN the other way!! Rude, expensive and way better eye care offered in Corvallis. I had my exams and purchased glasses/frames with them for three years. I later purchased an extra pair from Costco which needed adjusting. They had gladly adjusted them before, but today when I went in, they wouldn't adjust the ones from Costco because they weren't purchased at their store. I was told if I paid $30, they would make minor adjustments to them for two years without charge. Say what?? What about the glasses I purchased there for $600?? Sure! I mentioned it would have been good customer service to email or send their clients a letter concerning the change because I had made a special trip to their office. Told them I wouldn't be back and they could have cared less. I honestly couldn't believe it. The adjustment would have taken five minutes. Vented... feel better.
The office setting was meticulous, from the lobby to the exam rooms. The testing equipment seemed to be state of the art. The pre-testing technician and the doctor were conscientious in explaining all the various tests -- any questions I asked were answered easily and comfortably. Shopping for frames was fun and easy! Overall, I was very impressed by my visit to Valley Eye Care.
Great selection of glasses. Very helpful with diagnosing issues with eyes.
This place is better than Disneyland!! !!!
