The office in Medford appears to be a teaching environment and I felt as though I was a lab rat. I would not be surprised to learn that some of their staff are actually students who receive practical experience working as interns there. At least that is my impression. I was administered the eye drops to do the dilation while seated in the lobby among the other patients. It took 2 technicians and 1 Registered Nurse to insert the i.v. with the dye into my arm so that pictures could be taken of my inner eye. Both technicians commented that I had the arms of an athlete and could easily see my veins, yet neither one was able to insert the i.v. In fact. the probing they did with the needle was painful. They had to call the Registered Nurse who was able to get the i.v. with the dye going on the first try. Should I decide to have cataract surgery it will not be done by this group.

Dr rutar is excellent! The ladies in the office are great! Wait time , most of the time, is horrible. Our drive there is about 2 hrs (we really like her!). Last time we waited In the office for about 2 hrs before being seen. With two younger kids that are constantly hungry (lol) and bored. No fun! Pack a lunch just in case lol

While the office can be busy I was happy with the services I received and how quickly i was able to call in and have an appointment made. The front desk staff are patient and walked me through the new patient process.

Dr. Spaulding is AMAZING! He took the time to answer all my questions. Very thorough and knowledgeable! The staff is professional, courteous, and friendly. From the time I walked through the door until I left. I was informed of the wait time; first in the new patient letter, then over the phone when my appointment was confirmed, and again upon arrival. Being informed makes all the difference so I was well aware of what to expect. Thank you Dr. Spaulding and staff for a wonderful experience!

After waiting in the lobby for 25 minutes, I asked at the desk how much longer. She said actually we have you come in a half hour before your appt., so technically you've only been waiting five minutes past your appt. time. Wow. Really. When I finally got called back after sitting there for 50 minutes, I told the nurse I have been waiting for almost an hour and I don't think I'll come back again. She said "Well if you're going to be rude to me then maybe you should go somewhere else." So that is exactly what I'm going to do.

I had scheduled an appointment and they called back and changed it on me twice they are really rude and when u ask questions they don't like to help you they ask you questions and when you tell them you don't understand they laugh they are ass-holes I will not recommend this place at all !!!

This place is filled with staff who values everyone who walks into their office. They take their time to show every patient the same level of excellence care and service. As response to the negative comments, I for one don't want anyone rushing to get me out the door, without full proper correction of what ever brought me in to their office. The office management, Janice and Paula have always been friendly and make sure that they have had great staff to provide only the best.

I can't rave enough about the amazing Dr. Rutar. I deeply respect and admire her skill and knowledge. I had strabismus (eye muscle) surgery done by Dr. Rutar February 2018. I'm 32 and my left eye has been "lazy" my whole life, due to an underdeveloped muscle. With my eyes being out of alignment, I compensated by tilting my head to the side in order to see straight. I also had prisms in my glasses, but they could only help so much. Tilting my head for 30 years, caused chronic pain in my neck and shoulders and I knew I had to do something. My depth perception was severely off and even grabbing door handles was a challenge. After meeting with Dr. Rutar and learning about the surgery, I was overwhelmed with excitement and fear. Excitement, because of possibility of finally being able to see in the way that eyes were meant to, and fear, because of the unknown. My preparation for the surgery began with physical therapy for my neck. My therapist had a theory that my neck would partially correct itself, after surgery. She was right! Good bye, head tilt and severe pain! I won't lie, this surgery had me terrified. Both of my eyes were operated on, but I would do it all over again. The process was seamless and the results have left me speechless. Something as small as reaching out for a door handle and touching it on the first try, has changed my life. Being able to lay in bed and look at my husband without him distracted by my wandering eye, is priceless. For the first time in my life, I was told that I could wear contacts and that means the world to me. More than a year later, my eyes are still aligned. The incisions healed beautifully and my depth perception is spot on. You'd never know what my eyes have been though and I'll be scheduling an appointment for contacts soon. If you're considering this surgery, as scary may seem, I urge you to push through that fear. It was well worth it. My life has changed for the better because of it. Telling Dr. Rutar, "thank you" - will never be enough.

HORRENDOUS wait times (two hours at my daughter's last appt). Office staff is very rude. I came from 30 miles away, so I lost 4 hours of work for the appt, but the office staff acted like they were doing me a favor. This has happened twice now. Unfortunately, Dr. Rutar is the best in the valley as far as children's eye care. I am taking my daughter for one last appt in December. If it isn't a completely different experience...third time is the charm....I'm done. I'm sure I can find another doctor who will be almost as good and I can leave the appt feeling positive and appreciated. Hey...guess what Cataract and Laser Institute! Until universal healthcare takes over our country....maybe you should remember that we are still customers. You aren't doing us a favor, you are providing a service that we pay for!

They had an excellent selection of both high-end and budget frames and Gary and Jenny were very helpful in choosing and fitting the frames. ABSOLUTE RIP-OFF. Do not go here unless you want to pay $400 FOR AN EYE EXAM that takes 3 1/2 hours. I had Lasik a year ago in Utah and just moved to Medford. I'm suppose to have a yearly post-op. I spoke to the receptionist and told her my situation and she told me I could come in the next day. I made a big mistake not asking how much it would cost, but she surely didn't see the need to let me know it would be $400, none of which my insurance paid. They weren't willing to work with me either. I thought I was getting my quick 10 minute post-op exam and was there for 3 1/2 HOURS and now I'm left with a $400 bill. I also found out that each year when I come back for my annual post op, it will cost another $400 each year and take another 3 1/2 hours. Dr. Rutar was great, but I will never come back here again. I could have bought a round-trip plane ticket to Utah and visited my previous Dr and SAVED money in the end.

So my son has had a total of 4 appointments here. With each appointment lasting 180 mins or more. The staff is friendly and very helpful. The optical shop their on the other hand is very frustrating to deal with. The first pair of glasses we got had no issues. The second pair the lady (jenny) did not contact our vision service provider(vsp-insurance) and told us our glasses were not covered. After walking her through the ins and outs ( not letting her cut corners) we ended with 2 sets of glasses one regular which we did not want ( prescription called for transitions) and transition pair that were thankful to get. Now in the process of getting a replacement pair of transitions we have been financially profiled and asked to pay half for a deposit. I make 40k a year and my boys mom 35k a year. When asked if this is standard procedure I was told yes but it's not in a manual anywhere.. to top it off at the end of my conversation with this unhealthy sack of pig excrement she asks do you want to cancel the order. I pointed to the fact I never once mentioned a word about cancellation. After these glasses are made we will not be using the optical portion anymore. I'm filing a grievance with the office managers tomorrow.

It is a caring environment with friendly staff. My first surgery was done at another location and they did not give me discharge instructions.
