Dr Economou has done a great job with my Mom. The lack of her professional etiquette by the office manager in regard to my mothers file leads me to look for another doc.

Ginny Hopkins

Dr. Economou may be the best but if his office staff is unresponsive and won’t return calls, then this is not a physician you want. I have left 3 messages regarding a prescription and have received no response from anyone. The pharmacy has even faxed him and received no response. Terrible service.

My husband has been using Dr. Economou for 2-3 years, he's a wonderful doctor, but the front office girl who checked him in was very rude, she charged him a $35.00 copay the first time he has ever had to pay anything. He has had several procedures on his eye & never had to pay anything he has Medicare & a plan F supplement. She played a video on her cell phone she kept saying see Medicare says it's your responsibility, I couldn't understand what the video was saying because she kept talking the entire time it was playing. I was not allowed to go in the exam room with my husband like I have always done in the past, I keep all of his info on my iPad such as medications and appointments with his retinal doctor which the doctor asked him about. The girl who checked him out & set up his next appointment was very sweet & kind. I plan on calling Medicare to see what the copay was for. We were so disappointed of our treatment from the front office! October 23, 2018 This is in response to the owner, I called the office to request our 20% because the insurance paid it just like I told them the day of my husbands appointment, I was told it would be 6 months to a year before we get the refund. I asked why so long and was told that's the office procedure, that is entirely too long, they demanded the 20% up front, $35.00 may not seem like much money but to us it is, we're both retired and on a lot of meds. My husband sees many specialists a cardiologist, urologist, rheumatologist and retinal specialist, we never have to pay the 20% to any of them, the only specialist we have had to pay is Dr. Economou. The girl in the office kept saying they have a contract with Medicare, I know about Medicare contracts I did Medicare, Medicaid and insurance billing for 20 years before I retired, 20% is patient responsibility unless covered by Medicare supplement, if the patient had Plan F Supplement we never collected the 20% up front. Like I said in my initial post Dr. Economou is a great doctor, but his new office procedures are losing him patients, my sister-in-law was his patient but she won't be going back it's terrible to drive 100 miles one way & to be treated with such disrespect. great experience, great doctor, honest office and happen to be correct regarding medicare. I visited medicare website myself. there is a fee to the dr and it's not a copay. its still a fee. 20% of my visit. I checked with 2019 policy as well and it will be the same next year. I appreciate your offices ability to stay current on Glaucoma, diagnosis and yes even medicare. you've saved my site leaving me able to read and research topics still. God B;less you Sir and your office as well. Loved your office manager, very helpful and courteous, thorough job with my health issues and appears to really care about patients health outside of the eyes. would only recommend you Dr. Economou. As wold my wife as well. A plus.

I was denied access to see the Doctor due to a rude and in cooperative receptionist. I really like Doctor Economou but he is pushing good patients away from his practice. I sent a letter explaining this but never got a call just returned letter.

Dr. Economou, your fantastic! New patients should go to health grades where your reviews are verified. I can not thank you enough for saving my vision. After losing my wife of 52 years, I thought nothing could be worse. I was wrong. Blindness is not an option for me. I appreciate very much your skill, and knowing that Blindness is not an option for you either. God Bless you sir. Richard Belmont formerly Of Virginia .

Dr. Economou is an excellent doctor. If you are self paying, or have an HMO, I would recommend him. No need to read further. However, if you have a PPO or HSA, keep reading- this is for you. His front office staff is terrible and I recommend you find another provider. They do not know how to properly process insurance benefits. On my last visit, I was informed by the front desk attendant that I owed roughly $50 for a copay- not a huge amount. However, I knew that I had met my out of pocket maximum for the year and did not owe anything. The attendant became argumentative and insisted I was wrong. Another employee joined the argument and the staff refused to call my insurance company and verify my benefit status; instead they told me I was more than welcome to call them if I wanted. Finally I convinced his staff to let me have my appointment and if there was anything due I would pay it at my next appointment. My EOB came in the mail and, obviously, I owed 0.00. During that appointment, Dr. Economou recommended a procedure for me and while I was talking to scheduling I asked if they would call my insurance to get pre-authorization. One of the argumentative employees from earlier chimed in and told me exactly how much it was going to cost me. Keep in mind, one insurance company will have multiple plans within their portfolio that are similar, but not the same. So for her to spout off a price without them actually running my insurance and knowing what the contracted rates are for that procedure because she "billed one for Blue Cross earlier today" shows a lack of understanding of the insurance industry. Fast forward a month to my most recent appointment. Keep in mind I have met my out of pocket maximum for the year, so I should not owe anything. I am told that I must pay a $250 copay. I explain my situation and how insurance works to the billing rep (this is her job, she should know this), and I ask her to call my insurance company to verify my status. Once again, they decline and tell me I can call my insurance company if I want. While on the phone with my insurance company, I discovered that his staff had actually called to get preauthorization 3 days after I made my appointment to verify benefits eligibility, so they should have known I didn't owe anything. Yet they were still shaking me down for $250 on the day of my appointment. The rep from my insurance company had no idea why they were trying to collect payment, and even explained to his office rep that there was no need to collect anything- it would be paid at 100% of the contracted rate. In addition, the insurance rep pointed out that his staff was trying to collect a "deductible" at the out of network rate, although he is listed as an in-network provider. Because they insisted on still collecting the $250, I did not feel comfortable paying the "deductible" (extortion) so I left and did not have the procedure performed. I'm fairly certain I would have gotten the money back, but this inability to process insurance properly is an ongoing trend that I am not willing to tolerate.

An excellent Doctor but I the office charged me an out-of-pocket copay even though I explained that my insurance policy, Supplemental Plan F, pays the copay. I was disappointed at the loss a good doctor due to office medicare coinsurance/copay charges.

I've called and left (3) messages over the past week. No reply to any of them so looks like the only way to contact this office is to drop in and pay them a visit. Quite annoying that no one will answer the phone.

We love Dr. Economou. He is the best Glaucoma doctor we’ve been to. Of course we do expect to wait about 45 minutes due to the nature of his specialty. Same with my Cardiologist. I drive to Norman, Ok for him and am very grateful I don’t have to drive far to see Dr. Economou. He’s very knowledgeable and extremely pleasant. His Medical Director registered me on his portal using just my phone number. Thank. You for that ma’am. Very easy to communicate with his office now. 5 star Dr. and staff.

First of all, the front desk lady is a *HORRIBLE* human being who has NO business dealing with patients, let alone ELDERLY patients. Just like pretty much everyone else on here, this lady not only argued with my grandma about copay and refused to let her see the doctor without paying a $50 copay, which she didn't owe (she had been paying $35 for all of her previous appointments, it was even written down on her appointment card), she treated her with unfathomable disrespect! For some very suspicious reason she even refused to call my gramma's insurance company to confirm this info... And perhaps the sketchiest and most disturbing fact of all is the fact that my gramma's insurance company ended up reaching out to them TWICE and confirmed this info with them and they still refused her treatment without the $50 copayment. MAJOR FRAUD ALERT. Disgusting.

I was asked to review whether I was happy or unhappy and something about the employees. Guessing it’s due to a few bad reviews. Non the less, Ive been seeing ya for many years. I read the bad reviews and laughed my way through them. C’mon people.i didn’t even know you could review a dr and was shocked at the things people listed as complaints.who uses google to research any doctor? I’ve used the Oklahoma medical board website and one other to locate if there have been any deaths of lawsuits against a doctor I need to go to. I agree with the other person. Your 1 of 2 glaucoma docs in North Eastern Oklahoma.no he didn’t tell me that people so don’t jump on the soap box. iI researched it. I only found 4 in Oklahoma.2 in Tulsa and 2 in okc.i’ve never heard of a patient choosing any dr based on staff lol.that sounds downright silly. I don’t care who checks me in, what color they are or if it’s a robot. I care I get checked in and back to see you. My eyes and glaucoma are too important for me to be concerned with some girl at the front desk or 35 bucks.I’ll get it back if it’s owed.every business & employeed citizen’s income is automatically reported to good ole Uncle Sam.i also received a $3 check a few months ago lol.not worth the stamp doc.i can’t put a price on what you’ve done for me and my family.you've done the laser on me and the stick shunt surgery and my Glaucoma has stayed perfectly put for years. Hats off to ya.I’d ignore those few patients who get riled up over a visit not going their way.Few government elections have gone my way but I don’t have time or care to tweet or twitter the president. your hands down the best doc I’ve ever gone too. Including that guy in Dallas. He really had me on the wrong path.Sorry I can’t rate your front desk or staff, couldn’t even tell ya what they look like don’t care about your front desk or staff. I care that you’ve managed to save my eyes and I still see my ugly mug in the mirror every day.I mentioned to ya last week at my appointment, you’ve saved so many peoples eyes and given so much, ya can’t make everyone happy. You do seem to give s slick right hook to this terrible glaucoma disease. And ya saved my sight. That’s all that matters to me.Your one smart guy with a hilarious sense of humor. I come to you to treat my glaucoma not to rate how your staff treats me or my glaucoma since they aren’t doctors. I’ve been around long enough to know employees are just that, employees. Keep doing what you do. I’d give ya 10 stars if I could.I will say your parking lot is terrible but you’ve already told me ya don’t own the building. I’d walk if I had to.Have a good one today. Now that I know anyone can review a doctor, I reviewed ya but will tell ya, the more patients you have the longer it takes to get in to see ya each year. I’d like to have kept your A+ office a secret. Best Glaucoma doctor you’ll ever find. If someone is that worried about how staff treats them and 35 bucks I’d suggest they think again. Ya lose that vision you’ll be sad ya didn’t go to Dr. Economou. Myveyes are too important to me, I’m staying out and will see ya in a few months. Have a good one.

Great doctor.....horrible service from staff and office manager wife!!

I enjoyed meeting Dr Economou for my chekup. He's so kind and friendly and puts you at ease. Took one star for the nurse. I guess everyone has a bad day now and then. Ask him difficult questions about advances in eyecare. It's hilarious. I'll be back.

Patricia J. Harris

My visit was wonderful. Very informational and Dr. Economou even changed my medication. Thank you to the Medical Director who assisted me last week on the phone. The review stating, ask Dr. Economou anything about Glaucoma and it’s hilarious, is exactly correct. I don’t know how one man can have such a detailed knowledge base. I’m not sure why the negative reviews other than my husband and I noticed several unhappy patients expecting to be treated with a higher privilege than other patients. As a retired R.N. From Colorado, It’s very difficult to deal with patients who yell and scream,in the lobby. We own our own business as well and understand there are policies, regulations and explanations far deeper than what we as patient think. I’d say the unacceptable behavior we witnessed was that of patients. Not that of Dr. Economou’s staff. I can see why the check in girl would want to ring someone’s neck but we witnessed nothing less than very pleasant interactions with staff.I also inquired about the twenty percent Medicare required payment and was given the Office managers card. Jessie which we adore, was very honest and told me she does not make the rules, she does however follow the rules. She also gave us a business card with the office managers cell phone number. We did call her from the lobby and found her to be very detailed, pleasant, knowledgeable and correct. She is very to the point but pleasantly answered all my questions. To others asking what if I over payed, she simply stated Dr. Economou outsourced billing to a third party & all refund will be mailed from the third party billing company. She even gave us the company’s name and telephone number. Very simple explanation. When it comes to my eyes and Glaucoma, I’d certainly dismiss any person stating he’s a great Doctor but due to the staff you shouldn’t go there. I don’t go to Dr. Economou to see his staff, I go to see Dr. Economou. I give Little attention to bedside manner of anyone in the office or hospital. I do give excessive attention to my treatment. As a retired R.N. I tend to place my ego in second position my eye sight in first place. I Wouldn’t trust any other doctor with my eyes.God Bless you Dr. Economou and thank you for signing me up with the Klara message thing.I’m too embarrassed to admit I didn’t even look at your website instructions.I Should know better than that. The medical Director responded to me through text message within 10 minutes.ha ha we tested her timeliness.Wish we had this program back in my day. God Bless you and all those suffering with this disease. I’m very grateful to you Dr. Economou. Patricia J.

Was a very good experience, awesome staff, and a awesome Dr. that is very knowledgable and cares about his patients.

Jack Maupins

The best doctor in Oklahoma. He understands glaucoma and gets right to the point with you.

William Sutton

Wonderful Sub specialist & Staff!! I read the negative reviews and was surprised at the comments as I am only concerned about my glaucoma, the physicians skill and knowledge, not the bedside manner of the secretary checking me in. Wake up people! Glaucoma has left me with only 1 eye, while seeing another Ophthalmologist in Tulsa. I thank God I switched to Economou. My experience was great! Very intelligent Dr.,great staff , that are there to assist medically, not socially.had I not seen Dr Economou when I did, I wouldn’t have been able to even see the secretary .thank you Dr. and staff for saving my only good eye! Bless you !

Michael Chapman

Dr. Economou has a very professional staff. I left a message late Monday for a new patient appointment. Their automated text message service responded immediately to my voice message. One of the office managers contacted me Wednesday and we had an approval for an appointment Thursday morning at 10am. It's very apparent that they place customer service at the top of their list. Dr. Economou was professional, thoughtful and gave my wife a thorough his eye exam. A prescription for my wife's eye drops was immediately sent to our pharmacy. I can't remember when either of us have had a better experience with a Doctor. They obviously care about their patients and are ready to take care of their needs at any time. Glaucoma needs to be monitored every year. I wish we could give them 10 stars!

Sara Ramsay

I could not have asked for a better doctor or staff to take care of my husband's vision needs. I highly recommend him to anyone suffering with glaucoma issues.

Penny Morris

He is a wonderful doctor, I would suggest him highly.

Dale Williams

Couldn’t be happier with this Doctor. Thank you Dr. Economou for saving my eye sight.

Darrin Cooper

I made a appointment for the December 27th. The receptionist told me that she would call me and let me know for sure that they would be open. I never received a call, and I called several times the day before and also the day of my appointment. She finally called me and I rescheduled for December 31 at 10:40. The receptionist called that morning and wanted to move my appointment earlier and I told her I couldn’t as I was over a hour away. I was unaware that they had moved so When I got to their old address I called the receptionist and told her I would be there at 10:45 and she told me that my appointment was at 10:20 and I would have to reschedule because the dr had to leave. I will find another dr

Detrice L Brown

As if he was rushing to get to the next patient...

Roy Bristow

Wonderful Doctor, ALTHOUGH Most of the Front Office is Rude, Un-Helpful & Un- Convenient! Medicare needs to do an Audit soon of the Practice, to prevent anymore FRAUD from Occurring! If you live outside the Tulsa area you’ll be wasting your time!

John Tomtom

Staff was very pleasant. I received the most warm welcome and my exam was a delight. To top it off, another so called doctor destroyed my left eye. Thank God for Dr. Economou. He was able to do surgery on my right eye with a flawless outcome! Now that’s what I call a top notch Surgeon. Don’t waste your time at the other so called glaucoma doc. She’s got no clue how to treat advanced glaucoma. I learned the hard way. Much gratefulness to you and your staff Dr. Economou. John T.

Bernie Laun

Skillful surgeon and a wonderful human being. He saved my eyesight. You feel like you are his only and most important patient!
