My daughter was diagnosed with strabismus about a month ago. Since we currently live in upstate New York thanks to the US Army, and my husband is currently deployed, I decided to bring her down to Raleigh, NC (where my family lives) to be seen and treated Dr. Board. He treated my brother for an eye injury many, many years ago, and my family remembered him as being a wonderful, caring physician who opened his office on Christmas and New Year's Day just to check and make sure my brother's eyes were healing properly. I knew I wanted my daughter to see Dr. Board no matter what. He was able to see us within a few days of arriving in Raleigh. During her appointment, his office staff was helpful, accommodating, and he was wonderful with my daughter. It was determined that she would need surgery for her strabismus, and Dr. Board operated on her three days later. He thoroughly explained the procedure to me, and I felt extremely comfortable leaving my daughter's eyes in his hands. After the surgery, he gave us his personal cell phone number with instructions to call if we needed anything. Fortunately, we didn't need to call him, but I appreciated that he would extend that courtesy to us. Two days later (Sunday), he called to check on my daughter to make sure she was healing properly and not in any pain. What other doctor on the planet calls to check on his patients on a Sunday afternoon? I was so impressed! Fast forward about two weeks later, and my daughter is as good as new! Her eyes look wonderful, and she never missed a beat after surgery. Dr. Board was compassionate, caring, helpful, informative, and professional throughout our entire experience. I cannot say enough wonderful things about him. I also truly appreciate that he is one of very few pediatric ophthalmologists in the area who accept military insurance (Tricare). I highly recommend him and his practice!
