Family Eye Care doesn't accept vision insurance?! I had waited until I received vision coverage for my son to take him to get an eye exam. When I called to see if they accept my insurance they said they did so I took him. They didn't tell me that they only accept medical insurance so they are considered a specialist. What I thought was going to be a $20 eye exam (my copay through my vision insurance) turned out to be a $400 visit!

I will miss Dr. Kenneth Goldblum dearly. I want to wish him a very happy and fulfilling retirement. Thank you for all the years you diligently took care of my eye sight. :o) R.Perea

Had a horrible experience at this clinic. So dirty and disorganized. Place was so noisy as soon as we walked in. Felt like walking into a restaurant asking to be seated. The receptionist was rude and behaved like she didn’t like working there. The assistant who called us from the waiting room didn’t bother to greet us or introduce herself. She was in a rush all throughout the encounter. She didn’t give my son clear instructions when she was testing his vision. She was quite impatient and dismissive. She had a condescending tone when she told me “oh many people think it’s a lazy eye but actually it’s not.” She was fake nice when the doctor was around. The doctor did introduce herself but I was not impressed with the rest of the encounter. When I tried to tell her about my family’s history of lazy eye and blindness, she barely said anything. She used an ophthalmoscope just to shine light on my son’s eyes from about 1.5 feet away but never fully examined his eyes using the ophthalmoscope. Then the assistant asked me to hold my son’s hands and the doctor said that she was going to hold his head. After a few seconds, the assistant rushed into putting eyedrops onto my son’s eyes causing him to cry and almost yelled, “it stings!” The doctor and the assistant did not bother to inform my son what they were going to do and what to expect. Even while my son was still crying from the sting in one eye, the assistant forced open the other eye to try to put the eyedrop causing my son’s eyelid to be inverted momentarily. While I was comforting my son, the doctor just disappeared without a word. Then we had to wait outside for 30 min before the dilated eye exam. The assistant again did the exam using one of their machines. Then when we saw the doctor, she said my son is going to need eyeglasses. She proceeded to test him with a few different lenses and then gave me the prescription with a side note “and oh, he doesn’t have a lazy eye” (reason for consult). I left the room and the clinic feeling so disappointed and disgusted with their service. Also quite upset with myself because I read the bad reviews online and still made the appointment. Will never go back to that clinic.

Horrible. Avoid this place. Staff was definitely the worst. Contact lense specialist has no idea what she is doing. Also, two times in a row did she forget to sent my prescription in so in total, I've wasted 5 months of my time waiting on them. When I did call, I was lied to and told that my contacts just aren't in. Had to take time off just to go in there and sort their mistakes out.

This place is okay in some aspect and bad in others. For instance, I went with my daughter who has amblyopia, the doctors never once educated me on how the eye looks or is turned, all they said is that I need to patch. For the average joe that should be fine but for me it was not. It shouldn't be up to the parent to ask all the important questions we are not the "experience eye doctor," They are. And to top it off they know tell me to stop patching cause it's not working, but If I am here there is a possibility for eye improvement especially with all the changing facts of research then they should always push to keep treatment going. Are the in it for the kids or the quantity of flow of kids coming through the door $? Let me just add knowledge there comes very limited.

Beyond annoyed with this place!! I got recommended to this place because they take children. I called and spoke to a lady that was about to set up an appointment for my son and I told her I would call right back I wanted to check another place. I call back and get told that they dont accept my insurance and that it's only medical they accept. So I am very disappointed that it was all going good and only to hear all the sudden they dont accept my insurance. And the 2nd lady was rude!!

The staff does not return calls, when I scheduled an appointment 3 days before the appointment date and then came in they told me the appointment was not for 2 more weeks. This is after me telling them that my daughter may be getting cellulitis on the eye. They also charged me a second tome for the initial visit but I did not have my receipt for proof.

Took my 20 month old there today and was not impressed. Doctor didn’t seem to be patient with little ones and wasn’t very personable which is what I look for in a doctor. They also didn’t wash their hands before putting drops in my daughters eyes which is just a huge no no for me especially during flu season.

I don't think I'll be returning to this office ever again. It definitely was not the cleaniest place to start off with. But it was the last impression that really made up my mind for me. I brought my son in for an eye exam, everything was going swell up until the doctor tells me "I'm going to dialate his eyes, he's not going to like that"." My son just turned 3 in May, and me being a first time mom I am new to all of this. It just didn't sit well with me and I as his parent and guardian have the right to decline anything I don't feel is appropriate for my son at his age. I asked the dr if this was mandatory for him, being that he had just turned 3, and he did tell me yes for a complete exam to make sure that there isn't anything else they can't see. I told him I completely understood their purpose and where they are coming from (with all due respect). But I was going to pass because I just wasn't comfortable with that, being that I know what it is to have your eyes dialated I didn't want my son having to go through that at such a young age. I was very respectful towards the dr and his staff throughout this whole process, and what really burdened me is that I was not given that mutual respect back from the dr himself because of my personal chpice not to go through with dialation for my 3 yr old. At this point the dr no longer gives me eye contact for the rest of the appt, and basically tells me "ok, well we are finished here." I then proceeded to ask the dr with all the other tests done if he could tell me if things looked at least ok. Again no eye contact, didn't really get no answer and he was a completely different person from when he first greeted us in the beginning. So I finished my paperwork and got me and my son out of there as fast as I could. I didn't appreciate anything with the negativity and attitude because of my choice as a parent.. this is a no no never coming back again experience.

Got my daughter and sons eye exams from these folks. When it was time for a new rx, we went to another optometrist due to scheduling conflict. The new optometrist reported to us my daughters rx was so far off it made her see worse. So for a year my little girls vision made worse by this rx that was done incorrectly here. We were also told that the insurance would not cover the cost of glasses, so we had to spend out of pocket. Would never recommend! Still to this day I still get so upset thinking about how they stold my young daughters gift of what was supposed improve here vision ahhhh!!! Still boils my blood and never once have they reached out to apologize or make it right so mad!

I’m not usually one to complain, but something really bothered me at our visit yesterday with Dr Goldblum.. While he was in the middle of my baby’s exam my 4 year old son got up and was looking at the machine he placed his hand around the area it was sitting and Dr Goldblum grabbed him by his arm and told him to get away and not touch the machine my son started crying and wanted to leave . My son does not understand he is Autistic! No doctor should lay a hand like that on anyone’s kids! We finished my daughters exam and got her glasses but we will never return again .

Fast and friendly

Checked in 15 minutes before our appointment at 1245. They didn't bring us back until 1:50 where we waited for 35 minutes. Just to have a rude technician come in and dialate and send us back out to the waiting room. Then we weren't even taken back until 3:22 for the exam. Which we still had to wait. Then the tech was the one attempting to adjust the views and wasn't accurate or helpful at all. Then the doctor came in and trusted that prescription and didn't do anything. So two and a half hours later just to tell us okay the script is the same good bye. Front desk was not helpful nor friendly.

Showed up at 750a, first ones in the door for an 8am appointment. Signed in and waited until 815a to go into the exam room. The tech did her job then we waited until 845a for the doctor to show up and put drops in my kids eyes. At 850 we are told we have to wait 30 minutes. Are you kidding me? I'll find another doctor next time.

Had a great experience took my grandson there and they treated him very well

Expect to wait hours in a very hot overcrowded office- after months of waiting due to it being the only pediatric ophthalmologist in the region. If your child has been referred to this clinic for crossed eyes or a lazy eye, please be advised that it is considered a “procedure” and you will be billed hundreds of dollars on top of your specialist copay if you’ve not yet reached your deductible. The doctor also does nothing for these conditions except recommend you come back annually. Billing is not timely, sends threatening letters instead of picking up the phone to verify proper information as well as not being bothered to correct the patient’s name spelling, even if it’s standard spelling of a normal name.
