This review does not express my view of Dr. Patel who i respect as a physician, it is based on my experience at the office in Kendall Park, NJ.
Dr. Patel is kind and great but the office staff is a little bit chaotic.
I had arrived around 8:40 and saw the doctor at 9:30, while I understand the doctor may have been busy, however she could have told me in advance and I would have scheduled an appointment on Saturday when I was not working. When I tried to inquire if the doctor was running late, the lady at the front desk snootily told me this is a doctors office and not Costco so i should expect to wait.
When i called the office to make an appointment for the visual field test, and inquire about the co-pay, Ms. Gemini angrily told me I need a medical exam and would have to pay a new co-pay. i tried to patiently reason with her that I have a family history of Glaucoma which is precisely why i see an ophthalmologist and not an optometrist for my yearly check up. She kept yelling at me that i signed a paper to do a routine exam, i said i may have done it in error and she say - "DONT YOU SPEAK AND READ ENGLISH".
There was no reason to be mean or rude one must respect everyone regardless of their accent or proficiency of English. I am a health care professional myself and have never experienced such humiliation from office staff. I would have also liked had they done the visual field test right away as my previous physician used to do. I tried to tell her that an error could have possibly be made by me or the office and asked how we can resolve it and she put me on hold and handed the phone to Sonia.
She handed the phone to Ms. Sonia who was very kind and has volunteered to look into it. I hope someone from the doctors office helps resolve this mistake as I really like to Dr. Patel and would like to continue to see him.
My previous physician was very through and checked last years visit in order to ensure correct appointments are made and while a patient can make a mistake, there is no reason to be disrespectful to the patient, why not try to work with the patient in order to resolve an error?
I hope someone at the doctors office can resolve this error as I would like to continue to see Dr. Patel.
