Dr. Swan and the entire team assembled at Vance Thompson Vision are world class. Not only did the staff take the time to thoroughly educate me on the entire procedure, I have NEVER had a better patient care experience within any discipline of medicine. The providing team is just that incredible. I felt cared for, comfortable and completely confidant that Dr. Swan had my best interest and outcomes in mind. I had the Lasik procedure done and my outcome was truly flawless. Dr. Swan utilizes a completely bladeless procedure with the most up to date and wold class technology. Not to be undercut by his skill set, which is exceptional. On top of being a world class surgeon, Dr. Swan also walked me through each part of the procedure in a thoughtful and gentle way. The nursing staff, techs and assistants were all phenomenal. I really just can't quite put into words the incredible experience I have had at Vance Thompson. Bozeman is so lucky to have this level of expertise in town. I am so grateful and blessed by Dr. Swan and his team. Dr. Swan has given me an important piece of my life back and the freedom that comes from beautifully restored vision.

The billing was deceptive and the price was very high for the Meibomian Glands Lipiflow procedure, most of which was handled by a medical assistant or nurse instead of the ophthalmologist. It was falsely stated to be $1,000, and that is what the receipt I received on 5/04/18 stated after I handed over that entire amount on the date of service. Yet a few months later I discovered that $464 in five separate charges had been piled onto the $1,000, inflating the bill to $1464. My employer's vision insurance covered $317.50 of the added $464 of charges, leaving me to pay an extra $146.50 out of pocket over and above the $1,000 I had already paid out of pocket. My optometrist had referred me to Vance Thompson a month earlier and told me the procedure would cost $1,000 and would not be covered by vision insurance plans. I decided to go through with it and paid the entire $1,000 on the date of service at the clinic. Though the doctor urged me to come back for a follow-up exam, I did not do so, partly due to the fear that for a largely unnecessary examination I would probably be dunned for at least a couple of hundred dollars more for a follow-up exam. In actuality, this clinic probably would have charged me yet another $464, judging by what they did on May 4th. So, bottom line is that if you want a Meibomian Lipiflow procedure, which is the only thing I wanted, having already had an eye exam by my optometrist a month previously, try telling Vance Thompson that you do not want "Oph Medical Xm&eval Com" for $268, nor "Immunoassay Analyte Qua" (double-billed at $31 twice), nor "Microfluid Analysis Tea" (double-billed at $67 twice). And if the clinic refuses to stick with simply doing the Lipiflow procedure, which a medical assistant or nurse can do without the doctor in the room, be prepared to walk away.

Dr. Swan is very knowledgeable and treated me individually based on MY case and MY needs. The pre and post LASIK appointments were thorough and I never felt rushed. Our son had a difficult case of Keratoconus that had not been diagnosed for 35 years. When it was diagnosed we took him to Dr. Swan and he found that cross linking was a good option. They were very caring and professional throughout the process. They explained things well and answered all questions that were asked. Upon completion of the cross linking they referred him to get scleral lenses at Advanced Eye Care. He started out with about 20/200 vision and after cross linking and the scleral lenses he how has 20/25 vision. That is a miracle. Dr Swan is the real thing and we cannot say enough about the fantastic, professional and life changing service that they provide at Vance Thompson Vision.

The staff was amazing from the first phone call to surgery day. If you are considering laser eye surgery you don't need to look further: this is world class technology and customer service right in Bozeman. I had PRK on 1/24/19 with Dr. Swan which was a painless, simple and quick procedure (despite my fears of it). I had -5.25 with astigmatism in both eyes and could tell the vision improvement the same day, drove 5 days later and one week out had major improvement in vision. My aftercare doctor has mentioned how smooth my eyes are and how well they are healing due to Dr Swan's technique. [Tips for PRK: plan to spend 2-3 days relaxing in a dark room (audio books and black out curtains a must!), pain happens after surgery so take the Tylenol immediately to keep up on pain management, and keep up on the eyes drops]
