I had been to Urban Eye MD for a year when my employer changed our insurance provider. Before scheduling my appointment, I verified that Urban Eye accepted my new provider both on the phone and online (they advertised that they supported my insurance provider EyeMed Vision).
When I went for my appointment it was like I was a completely new patient, I was handed a clipboard, told to fill out my information even though I had been before and was treated by a completely new doctor. At the close of my appointment, I approached the front desk to pay my co-pay and was told there was none. This was very strange as I always had paid a $60 co-pay for my contact lens fitting. After my appointment, I called the front desk again to verify that I didn't have a bill and offered my insurance information again. I was told again that there was no co-pay.
I then received a $400 bill in the mail. To add insult to injury my address was incorrect and my name was misspelled. I called the office again to ask why I received a bill this high and they said it was because they did not have any insurance information on file. I offered my insurance information for the third time and was told rudely that the front desk "had a million things to attend to and they would get to it when they get to it." I was assured a call back at 1 PM. I received no call.
At 1 PM I called again and was greeted by the individual responsible for billing. For the fourth time he asked me for my insurance information. He then told me he was "locked out" of the EyeMed system and would have to call me back, I finally received a call back a few hours later but missed the call. I promptly returned the call, was left on hold for 45 minutes and then hung up on. I called back again and a woman answered the phone. When I explained my situation, she very rudely declared: "I don't know why you are calling here - did you even think to call your insurance provider and ask them?" At this point, I was shocked and replied that I was calling because they were the ones who assured me that I was covered. I then offered her my insurance information for the fifth time.
I was put back through to the individual responsible for billing who was rude and accusatory and kept claiming that this was my fault and that he had 20 years in the medical billing industry.
I have been to many clinics and have never been so rudely treated.
I very much enjoyed the doctors but the front desk staff and billing department is a complete disaster and it is a shame. I strongly caution anyone against going to this clinic - it has been a $400 mistake for me.
