My husband had his yearly eye check-up last May 11th, and he had Dr. Bennett this time. The last time he was there, he had a different optometrist. Her first words to my husband were, "So, you have news for me?". He thought, why would he have news for her when he hasn't met her before? It wasn't "Hi, I am Dr. Bennett." My husband knew that his vision had changed, so he thought maybe that was what she was asking. And then she retorted, "Was there something about your blood?" So he informed her that he was recently diagnosed with diabetes. And her eureka response followed by the condescending lecture culminated in her calling him a "juvenile delinquent."
First of all, what kind of doctor shames her patient?
Second, how arrogant is this doctor to assume she knew everything about him, his history and his diabetes? She was pompous, to say the least, to exclaim that she is the "window to his diabetes".
We live a block away and previously had a good experience despite the attitude from the front desk, hence the old review in another site. So I decided to read other reviews there only to find out that this has happened a few times before with Dr. Bennett. Now, I am rethinking this. Why would I want any of my family to get insulted and shamed on their appointment? This is why some people decide to not take care of themselves or ask for help because they get shamed for their own health. When the key to one's recovery is accepting your current state of health so that you can face it honestly, a safe environment is what the doctor needs to provide.
