REVIEWS OF Maine Eye Center IN Maine

I just called to get information on a procedure and to make a consultation appointment. I talked to Lindsey and she was so helpful and polite. She answered my questions without rushing me and set up my appointment and is getting the referral from my pcp. She was very pleasant and professional. I will write another review after my first appointment with Dr. Kahn as I am a new patient.

Waited two hours for Dr Miller. I complained she said I was disrespectful and left! I had to wait another 30 mins for the next dr. He saw me 5 mins told me my eye were fine and I was set to go. Very unprofessional and no comuication. I will no go back and telling everyone who asks including all my other Drs not to go!

Cindy Willey

All about the MONEY. Wanted 1.000.00 payment, before my son could get a follow up appointment after cornea transplant

Heather Cimellaro

Pediatrics - administrative staff were rude to each other and short with patients. I heard "not my problem" multiple times, and rude comments made about people who were calling in. Our wait time was 3 hours, which was the WORST with newborn twins and a toddler. When we got to the exam room, the MA was very kind and friendly, but Doctor Berman has NO bedside manner. He was cold and absolutely not interested in us or our children. If at all possible, I recommend staying away and/or going elsewhere.

Always a good experience

I saw Dr. Jennifer Garvey to arrange to have scar tissue removed from my R eye. It's the 5th time I have been to Maine Eye Center, but I guess I had cancelled a f/u appt over a year ago, so Garvey would not schedule treatment for my R eye until she dilated my L eye, which was my only seeing eye at this time. I was driving and could not have my only good eye dilated, so she would not do any treatment, and I left an appt that took me 3 months to get. I will not be going back. I had a referral for dry eyes to begin with, but the clinic found many possible issues which kept me coming back at $40. a visit. My dry eyes and eye infection were never recognized and treated. Very unhappy with the professional ignorance here in Maine.

Susan Dodge

They treated me very well!

Incredible wait time. Why? No one else was in the waiting room. Total time spent for a simple straightforward eye exam was 2 hours, 30 mins.

Francesca Galluccio-Steele

Presently I'm having great difficulty with the staff - definately NOT patient centered! I have had cataract surgery scheduled. for over 5 months....really need it too! Had a call several days ago that my appt is canceled. doctor moving out of town!! They'll get back to me to reschedule. I talk with the receptionist - VERY rude. Secretary not helpful or empathetic -office manager NOT available after many calls...Totally pitiful and unacceptable!! i

Great Doctors and Staff just dont expect them to be there for you in an emergency or otherwise. The office closes for week periods with only the emergency care available for special appointments if you can handle three or four hours for them to get back to you how ever many times. Every appointment is 3-4 hours as they are so over booked.

The entire staff are all so wonderful! Dr Libby is really a great doctor. I had my surgery in Dec 2018 and I have to say I was so nervous and afraid, I was literally shaking. But everybody went above and beyond to make me relax. I’ve had several other surgeries (not on my eyes) but I’ve never experienced anything as wonderful as Dr Libby and his staff! Thank you so much for all you’ve done for me!

Elaine Rust

The receptionist and the nurse were very friendly and interacted well with my three-year-old grandson. Doctor Berman seemed to have very little time for us, implied that I was not helpful enough constraining my very distressed grandson during his exam and suggested that the boy's parents, rather than I, should come the next time. I guess the doctor didn't realize that when my grandson calls out for mama, he's calling for me. Had Dr Berman spent just a little more time with us, he might have learned that the mother has no legal custody and must get permission from the father to have any involvement medically with my grandson.

Dr. Berman and his staff have been caring for my daughter for three years now. Our appointments were every 6 months until her eyes became adjusted to the correction prescription glasses and now we go each year. I have never been met with rude staff nor felt rushed. The dialation process does take time and since he is dealing with children there may be some longer than anticipated wait times but there is a TV and play area for the children. I suggest to Bring some snacks and waters but if you forget there is a vending machine downstairs near the optical shop. Dr. Berman is a professional optometrist and he knows what he is doing, I greatly appreciate his expertise!!! I feel it is the parents job to know how to soothe and calm your child under dire circumstances so that the Dr. Can do the job he intends to do and have never had trouble with this practice even though I have an over anxious child when faced with uncertainty. Play some games or read some books about the eye Dr. before going as this may help prepare your little one for this necessary event

Took our son to see the pediatric eye doctor We waited months for this appointment. Upon arrival we were greeted by a snobby staff. The surgical center and the pediatric wing are in the same area, so people kept coming in to tell the kids to be quiet. (Mind you they are all under 2 waiting with dilated eyes screaming and playing. ) Then after waiting a half hour for us to get in to get the eyes dilated we had to wait another hour and a half to be seen. This is where the worst part happened. I had my son on my lap, he's tired already. Before even talking to my son the nurse grabbed my sons head and they started the exam. He screamed to the point where I asked for a break so he could gather himself. Literally 30 seconds! The doctor then told the nurse to hold his head again. We finished the exam and we left the office with tears, a red face and hand prints from the nurse. If his face bruises, we will be taking photos and creating a lawsuit. They were unfriendly, impersonal, and to an 20 month old child this was traumatic and I truly hope that he doesn't remember this. They are supposedly the best eye doctors in the state but not for children. I will be ensuring his pediatrician knows about this as well as any other person who recommend this place to us.

Called for an appointment and was promised a call back the next day because they were 'too busy' to help me the day I called. They never called back. Unimpressed with the staff. I won't be calling again.

Good doctor...rude and nasty phone and secretarial help!

Just had Strabismus surgery with Dr. Berman. Great job, great staff.

Been a patient at MEC for over two years with a significant cornea issue. I have found Dr Zacks and Dr Walters very professional and experienced. Because of their expertise, I have excellent vision back. My only complaint would be with billing for services. I had a lens implanted and it became cloudy after a couple of years. It was cleared up with a brief 5 minute laser procedure. I didn't mind paying the physicians fee of over $850 (most covered by insurance), but on the next billing MEC tacked on another $980 "Facility" charge. I was a bit upset at this fee for such a short procedure that wasn't done in a surgical setting, so why was I charged a Facility Fee ? Spoke to billing office and told that the fee was correct and that was pretty much the way it was. Maybe they are used to most of their billing going through Medicare without being contested! My insurance paid about 85% and I was surprised. This seems a bit excessive for the type of procedure performed and the brief time I was in a small exam-type room. I will make a complaint to Augusta about this as it comes close to fee gouging for patients. Will pay the bill grudgingly!

Back in 1999 I had Lasik done on both eyes, and it has been great hands down. I was warned about later in life, how I would no doubt need reading glasses, and that time has arrived. But the time I have had it's worth the trade off. One not so good thing though, not sure it happens with everyone but my nighttime driving suffered greatly, glare is a very bad thing now for me, so much that I don't drive at night if at all possible. Sometimes I wear sunglasses to help, only when cars are coming. I am going to ask them to see me and see if I might be able to do something about that!

Polly Gosselin

I'm a patient of John Walters. He and his staff are pleasant and helpful, and I have confidence in their work. I'm not sure who the snobby receptionist might be, but I haven't encountered anyone like that! They have gone out of their way to help me with scheduling problems.

Shane Mountain

I've been a patient of John Walters for years, I followed him here from his previous practice. John is a great doc, always very professional and courteous. It did take a long time to get an appointment, I booked a July appointment in April. The check in process was pretty easy, as I was sent all the paperwork in the mail to fill out ahead of time. I will say there was only one receptionist checking in patients for 4 providers. I arrived the recommended 15 minutes early for my appointment, but had to wait 10 minutes to check in. The staff are polite, professional, and courteous. I can't say enough good things about Dr John and his team.

Eid Alsabbagh

A few days after I had posted my negative review on google, I received a phone call from Dr. Berman. He expressed his sincere apology on behalf of the entire practice for my bad experience mainly due to long wait times. He assured me that he and his team are taking the negative feedback very seriously and looking into how they can continue to improve their level of service. I personally felt his care and passion for his work and was very encouraged by his courteous initiative. I have since then removed my negative comments and upgraded my review. I have a follow up apt for my son in 1yr and looking forward giving the experience 5 stars!

So far, so good - after my one-yr-old broke my glasses frame, I took it to the optical shop, and the lady there repaired it for free, bless her heart, as well as she could. I've booked a first eye appointment there and will report back if there's any change in my opinion of the place.

I see my experience with SNOBBY STAFF was not alone, I have been seen by these Doctors for years, even had surgery there. I just changed jobs that week, I did not have my insurance card YET. however i did have a phone number and a group ID for the coverage for them to verify. THEY COULD NOT BE BOTHERED TO CALL. I took time off from work , the appointment got cancelled because of the staff being uncooperative, and NOT PATIENT CENTERED. they kept telling me that I didnt have insurance and treated me as if I walked in off the street and they had never seen me before. I have made NUMEROUS CALLS to the OPERATIONS Manager to complain, i keep getting voice mail, I do leave a message and it sounds like she could care less to even call me back . NOT PATIENT CENTERED AT ALL!!!

Sue R

I have been a patient for over 40 years and my husband and kids are patients, too. The staff is professional, thorough and courteous. I had Lasik 13 year ago and recently, blepharoplasty. Both procedures were explained in detail and successful.

Musa Farah

They really helped me with my condition which first of all I never heard of. But now I can see really well. Thanks Dr.Zachs

Amber Seavey

My daughter has been treated by both Dr.Berman and Dr,Zachs since she was five weeks old. She was born with a cataract in her left eye and had her first surgery at almost six weeks. Granted the secretary's may not always be the nicest and the wait can be extremely long, but I am glad that my daughter has one of the best eye specialist in the state because without then she wouldn't be able to see out of her left eye. My daughter is now 8 and hates just about everything, but still admits that she loves seeing Dr.Berman.

Cindy Chamberlain

Long waiting times. His interraction with our 2 year old was terrible. There myst be other pediatric eye docors in Portland

Kimberly Guimond

The only good thing is they got us in right away. Other than that the receptionist was rude, the nurse was pushy and Dr. Berman was very rude. He held my sons head (4month old) with force without asking for assistance. He then told me the same thing Ive been hearing and basically told me it was a waste of our time to go. I'm praying theres a different pediatric eye dr that can fix my sons nasty tear duct thats stinky and bothering my poor lil one. I do not want to go back to this place!

Nancy Marshall

I just had such a horrible experience with this place that I am almost speechless. I waited several months for my appointment, and then went to the wrong location because I did not have any confirmation as to whether to go on Marginal Way or Lowell Street. I had inputted Marginal Way in my calendar when I made the appointment, so I don’t believe anybody ever told me which place to go. I thought my appointment was at 9:30 AM but evidently it was 8:40 AM. Again, I had inputted 9:30 when I made the appointment and would have gone earlier had I received a confirmation. Most medical offices would have confirmed and even re-confirmed the time and location. I believe there is software that does that (salespeople should call and introduce these people to the technology that is available.) Perhaps these people have not heard of that! I am just feeling angry about this whole experience, and I never even got to meet the doctor. I took an entire morning off from work, which is very difficult because I own my own business, and I am very busy. I did all kinds of paperwork while waiting in the lobby, but then was told that the doctor had to cancel my appointment. What?!?!? Never. Going. Back. Will seek someone else who can take care of my eye problem. One star is inadequate. Is there a negative star rating? Oh and the driving was bad due to snow, as well. Did I mention that? Dr. Wajda, I am not happy.

Alejandra Guardado

I call the office for an appointment information after 3pm and no one answered the phone call it sent me straight to the answer service, it very upsetting!!! Business hours are Mon. - Fri. 8am to 4:30pm And Friday 8am to 4pm so why I'm not having any response!!!

Jeanne Benjamin

Just went in today for a routine eye exam with Dr Aggarwal. Everyone I had contact with was friendly and professional. Their information said a first visit would take about 2 hours and they were right. I had a refraction test for eyeglasses. There was an additional cost for that and again It was explained in the new patient information. Dr Aggarwal gave a thorough examination and explained her findings clearly. It was a very positive experience.

Alexandra Daley-Clark

Always professional, and Dr. Thees takes the time needed. I never feel rushed.

Rebecca Charest

Dr. Zack's is amazing! He has apparently cured my reoccurring corneal abrasion/erosion after almost 3 years (after an optometrist performed a debridement incorrectly). I am very pleased about that. However, I'm giving Maine Eye Center a 4 rating because the wait time is ridiculous. Don't expect to be seen for at least an hour after your scheduled time, they apparently double book often, but....I will wait for the best! I recommend Maine Eye Center for sure!
