Very inpatient with my 4 yr old son. My son was crying and scared but instead of explaining what he was going to do, he was shoving different things in my son's face and trying to do an eye exam. Will never go back!!!

Giving 1 star because I can't give 0. This doctor performs unnecessary refraction services with every exam regardless of the reason you are being seen. This is to be able to charge more for each visit. The doctor refuses to work with patients to appeal insurance denials of services due to being deemed unnecessary by those insurance companies. These refraction fees are charged up front and separate from other fees being billed for the visit. AVOID this office. Reply- My wife went to your office. You charged her for the refraction fee and refused to sign a letter to the insurance company stating that due to an extreme eye condition the refraction should count as medically necessary as it was denied by the insurance company. This is a standard procedure when dealing with health insurance when it comes to eye care outside of regular exams for glasses.

Worse optimaligist I have ever been to I am 18 & I have to genetic eye conditions I have been going to eye doctor from 3 weeks old, he was late & completely and completely rude!! I will never be back to see this doctor again& I will not recommend him to anyone!!!!!! He reminds me of my alcoholic, abusive step father. If you are in need of a good eye doctor or specialist I highly recommend Dr.Music or Dr.Blackburn at University of Kentucky!!!!!!!!

Do not, under any circumstance, go to the Kentucky Eye Center...I wish I could give zero stars. Dr. Matthews is an antiquated, rude, and impatient human being. His bed side manor is the most horrible I've ever encountered. If he can be rough with someone fighting brain cancer then he can be rough with anyone. I wouldn't let him near anyone else. He should have retired years ago because he's obviously a miserable, resentful person who doesn't enjoy his job at all. The End.

I had a great experience with Dr. Matthews! He was extremely smart and explained everything to me. I was brought back to see him quickly and didn't wait long at all in the room. He listened to me and was very kind. I wish more physicians were like him! Definitely recommend. Very helpful and respected my time.

Takes time to talk to the patient like a real human being. Long appointment for that reason. Very old fashioned office but if you don't want to be treated like a number, come here.

I made an appointment for my granddaughter who has the medical card. My daughter and both of my granddaughters were there for 2 and 1/2 hours. Two other patients left because they were kept waiting so long. Very disappointed with him. My granddaughter who is 13 already had glasses for reading. He told her she absolutely did not need glasses. My granddaughter told him that words were blurry when she was reading and he told her to get up and go look out the window if that happened. How ridiculous. We are getting a second opinion. Don't waste your time with this doctor!

If I could give no stars I would. This Dr is a joke without a punchline. He makes numerous unnecessary appointments for people in order to charge them or their insurance repeatedly. My mother went to him and had her eye exam. When she called to find out about going back to pick out frames she was told she'd need an appointment and to see the Dr. REALLY? For frames? (A ploy to charge her insurance for yet another appointment) She wasn't told that her insurance, the same one she had for her first appointment, the one they have on file ... they don't accept for this appointment. My assumption is it's because the insurance co would catch on to the repeated visits/charges. Save yourself the time and trouble. GO ELSEWHERE!

I have had cataracts removed from both eyes, first the 18th of June and the second July 9. I had no after effects, soreness or discomfort from either experience . Dr. Matthews explained the procedure before operating and I am greatly pleased with the outcome. I have always been satisfied with his work and consider him a gentleman. Thanks, Dr. Matthews
