I've been stewing over the fact Dr. Cavanaugh ruined my eyesight four years ago. My eyesight was better with cataracts then after their removal. Before I could see far with my right eye that had LASIK correction a couple years prior to the cataract surgery, and the left eye had perfect close vision naturally. After the cataract surgery I could see neither close or far. When complaining about it to one of the doctors, he told me I was at least not blind. Really!? My close friend last month had exactly the same mono-vision as I with the same one eye corrected with LASIK. Her result was she can still see perfectly as she did prior. Different Doctor of course. This prompted me to write this review after 4 years of stewing. Dr. Cavanaugh herds people through the cataract process like cattle and seriously do not think he spends much time looking at your record, otherwise, my result would have been much different. He actually would have no stars but the site requires at least one to be marked.

I had LASIK in 2010 with Dr. Cavanaugh at Cavanaugh Eye Center. My experience could not have been better! The surgery was so fast and exactly how they explained it to me. The staff and Dr. Beatty were are excellent to work with and they saw me as many times as needed to ensure my vision was perfect. I am so happy with my experience...my vision is 20/20 and no more contacts or glasses needed after so many years! Dr. Cavanaugh and Dr. Beatty are the best doctors around and are so professional and do whatever it takes to ensure my eyes are well taken care of. I still see Dr. Beatty for my yearly visits and anytime I have problems with my eyes and he gets me right in! My wife has had LASIK with them as well and I continue to refer friends and family to them.

I have had keratoconus most of my adult life. Ten years ago Dr. Cavanaugh performed a cornea transplant on my right eye. It is a frightening procedure, to say the least, but I must say that I developed a level of trust with Dr. Cavanaugh that remains today. Within two years of healing I then underwent an AK procedure and PRK on my right eye. I have enjoyed unaided 20/20 vision in my right eye for the past 8 years and it continues today. I was also Dr. Cavanaugh's second Intact surgical patient. The intact was placed in my left eye and provides a solid foundation for a toric lens. I have had excellent vision in my left eye since this procedure was performed. Dr. Cavanaugh's support staff is top notch and always available to my needs. Dr. Cavanaugh a world class surgeon and I consider myself fortunate that he accepted me as a patient. He accomplished what other doctor's thought impossible and I very highly recommend him!

I had Lasik correction in January. It was awesome, quick, and had great results. I developed a small astigmatism several months later, and had a revision without question, additional cost, or remaining issues. I would recommend Dr. Cavanaugh or Beatty either one for eye care as they are both very professional, very proficient, and also very friendly and show a genuine concern and care for their patients.

Prior to going to Cavanaugh Eye Center and seeing Dr Cavanaugh for the first time, I had many, many visits with 4 different doctors at one of the other primary Kansas City Eye Centers, which will remain unnamed. After several eyeglass prescriptions and other (failed) "fixes" I continued to have blurred vision. They claimed that I was a year or more away from needing cataract surgery. Dr Cavanaugh disagreed -- said I was ready now, and I had the surgery. It has truly been a miracle -- cataract lenses in both eyes, upgraded to the premium lense -- no glasses needed now for near of far! The procedure was painless and worked immediately. The staff and doctors at Cavanaugh Eye Center have a great bedside manner -- always friendly and accomodating, and of course, knowledgeable, unlike the other aforementioned clinic. The Cavanaugh Eye Center staff is always friendly, accommodating (I live 1.5 hours away) and always have my best interest and comfort at hand. This office was a major part of a major life change and I will be forever grateful. I have bilateral Keratoconus, needed a cornea specialist and chose Dr. Cavanaughs office after much research. I made the right choice. I received PRK and excellent follow up care from Dr Beatty. He later referred me to another office to see if scleral lenses were a good choice for me. They were and I now have excellent corrected vision. The Doctors worked very well with my local eye Doctor also and kept her informed at all times. I would highly recommend Cavanaugh Eye Center.

Over the last six years, Dr. Cavanaugh has done two successful lens replacements to remove my small cataracts and also follows me for my corneal transplant done by another opthalmologist who retired. I'm a registered nurse so I'm very picky about my healthcare, and I'm very happy with the excellent, professional care I receive at Cavanaugh. The nurses and other technicians do an excellent job explaining procedures and the desk always handles my calls and requests promptly with respect and empathy. Drs. Cavanaugh and Beatty take the time to answer my questions clearly and directly no matter how many I may have. I feel like everyone at Cavanaugh truly cares about my eye health and want it to be the best it can be. Everyone at Cavanaugh works together as a solid team to make that possible. I'm happy and I'm staying!

These people are wonderful. I opted to drive there all the way from Oklahoma because they do such a wonderful job. I went to three different places in Tulsa and was told at each one that I would have to get implants because my eyes were so bad. Cavanaugh was able to use their laser technology and give me 20/10 vision! That is better than 20/20!! The people are friendly, professional, and efficient. This is defenitely not one of those impersonal assembly line places. Lasik is worth every penny and so are these guys. I recommend Cavanaugh Eye Center to everyone no matter where you live. It is worth the drive.

I would like to time a few moments to let you and your staff members know how much I really appreciate your services. On my first visit, (August 13, 2015), my left eye was painful, draining, red, swollen and very sensitive to light. In fact, I wore an eye patch over my eye, on that very visit. One of the very nice ladies at the front desk (I am not sure which one because I could barely see out of my eyes), noticed that I was in pain and quickly checked me in. after which, she must have informed one of the medical technicians of my condition, and another nice lady offered to put eye drops in my eye to numb it, while I waited to be seen by you. Because I could not bare to open my eye in the reception area, the technician took me back to room, dimed the lights, and administered the drops. A short while later, while visiting with you, I noticed how personable and very intelligent you were. Right away I remember feeling confident that I was in good hands. You were very detailed, and informative, and you explained to me exactly what my prognosis was, and the plan of action to get me seeing better. Every visit thereafter, the ladies at the front desk remembered me, and they are always friendly, caring and professional. I recall the few times that I had to call your office with questions. Although I had to leave a message, my calls were promptly returned with complete answers to my questions. Another memory was when I was sitting in the reception area waiting to be seen, I found myself chatting with one of your patients, who informed me of the fact that she has been a patient of yours for many years, and that you were well spoken of, especially amongst your colleagues. I was so impressed that I decided to do research of my own, since I was now a patient. By doing so further increased my confidence of your knowledge, and made me feel cared for even more. From the first day I met you, I could immediately separate your expertise from the other eye doctors (and eye specialist) that I have seen. Not taking anything away from their background and training, but your presence stood out (not to mention that you are a good looking fellow)! I will strongly recommend anyone in need of eye care to your practice! I really feel like you “saved” my eyesight and I am eternally grateful for the fact that you knew the exact eye drops and ointment to prescribe and I believe my eyesight has improved significantly because of your enhanced ability to represent your practice.

After 15+ years of wearing contacts/glasses, I got LASIK performed at the Cavanaugh Eye Center this past Spring. I can't describe how great it is not to have to mess with contact any longer. The procedure was very fast, and I felt like I was always kept well informed, both pre and post surgery. They are very professional, both the staff and the office location which I was very happy with. After the procedure I was given a nice bag (like the reusable grocery kind) to put all the documents and items in. I still use this bag every time I go to the grocer. As far as LASIK is concerned, I would highly recommend it and I wouldn't get it done at any other place than the Cavanaugh Eye Center. Thanks!!

I had corrective vision surgery back in 1992. After several years of great vision, my vision took a turn for the worst. We couldn't even get glasses to correct my vision. My regular eye doctor referred me to Dr. Cavanaugh. What was found was that the surgical cuts made back in 1992 had relaxed in both eyes and my corneal surfaces were no longer smooth. There were peaks and valleys in my corneas. Dr. Cavanaugh recommended corneal transplants in both eyes. He took his time and explained everything to me, both the pro's and con's, of doing this surgery. Thanks to him, and the corneal donors, I have vision that is correctable again. Dr. Cavanaugh and his staff, including Dr. Beatty, are a wonderful group of people! They help you through the entire process and are there to help no matter what! Thank you Cavanaugh Eye Center!!

I never made it passed the front desk. I waited over a month for my appointment, took a day off from work and due to a miss-communication with my optometrist they did not have a referral from my primary care doctor. They were not helpful at all, instead blaming me. When I said I would have to wait 2 hours for my ride, they said I could wait in the building lobby, NOT IN THEIR WAITING ROOM!!! At the very least a supportive staff would have helped. Their expressed view was it was all my problem. My view, their attitude and lack of customer service is the problem. The staff screwed up so bad I'm not about to let them touch my eyes.

I couldn't be more disappointed in this office. My 82-year old mothers eye doctor referred her to Cavanaugh for cataract evaluation. It took over 2-months just to get an appointment. They didn't ask about her insurance other than say they take all of them. After my mother waiting all that time just for the appointment, we get there and the office says they don't take her version of Medicare! How do you take some versions, but not others? Wouldn't this have been a great thing to find out BEFORE you wait so long? I see that they have a 5-star rating, but this was complete incompetence on their part!

Cavanaugh Eye Center performed Zyoptix Custom Wavefront LASIK on both of my eyes, December 6th, 2012. I feel confident in saying that it was simply the best money I've ever spent! I know quality client service when I see it. My entire profession revolves around it. The customized service, specialized attention and friendly demeanor given to me by the entire team (Dr. Cavanaugh, Alissa, Rebekah, Ruth, Cindy and Vicki) was second to none! Less than 15 hours after surgery, I was assessed at 20/20 vision in my left eye and 20/25 in my right eye. The results have gotten better each day since. They even corrected my astigmatism. I think the biggest thing was getting over the anxiety of having the procedure. The entire team went out of their way to inform me of each step, so nothing came as a surprise. Their special technique of verbal valium really puts clients in a comfortable state of mind. I really didn't feel anything at all. Once I figured out it was painless and easy, it ended up being enjoyable. The whole thing lasted less than 10 minutes and I was able to see well enough to walk out of the building. I would recommend Cavanaugh Eye Center without any reservations to anyone in need of specialized, state of the art, eye care.

Many people rant and rate their favorite and least favorite businesses and vendors on Google and Yelp, and attest to their quality and service. I am pleased to rate Cavanaugh Eye Center a “superior choice” for any, and all eye care needs for numerous reasons. The care is awesome, and after having a cornea transplant performed at the age of 38, he is a trusted advisor. His staff is friendly, courteous, and most important professional. He is very well trained and if you are fortunate enough to live in the Kansas City area, you have the convenience of having your eye care needs handled by one of the best doctors in the Midwest. As I noted above I had a cornea transplant and my vision went from near blindness (I could make out colors) to almost 20/20. He is amazing and not only do I attest to his service and practice with my note on the internet, and my loyal patronage over the years, but I travel from Austin once a year to keep him as my doctor. Many people can write a review and recommend a doctor, but the fact that I travel hundreds of miles each year is the data one should consider when picking a doctor, especially if they are fortunate enough to live in the Kansas City Area.

I called to schedule a consultation for a second opinion, and the lady who answered the phone asked me my name and information and asked me to explain my eye situation, so I did and I explained to her that I was looking for a second opinion and that I have been visually impaired since I was 12 years old due to a cataract. Her reply to me was probably the meanest and uncareful response I have ever received from a doctors office."She said, I honestly don't think after 10+ years we would be able to help you maam. To me if your a doctors office your primary job is to care for others, and to tell a patient that you dont think you can help them is a little harsh and hurtful. I didnt proceed with the call i simply just said thanks and hung up.

When I decided to have Lasik surgery in 2012, my Lawrence eye doctor, Jake Letourneau, referred me to Cavanaugh, with the assurance that Dr. Cavanaugh had performed the procedure on his own staff and their families. So I went there without any hesitation. I found Dr. Cavanaugh and his staff to be friendly, professional, and efficient. They gave me a very thorough exam, explained all aspects of the procedure to me, and were helpful in every way. They seemed concerned about me as a person, not just as a source of income. When I went back a few weeks later for the surgery, everything proceeded as they had described. I could not be happier with the result: I was extremely nearsighted, and now I see 20-20 at distance. Also, they allowed me to seek follow-up consultations here in Lawrence instead of driving over to their Overland Park office. Highly recommended!
