I went in for an eye exam to renew my contact lenses, which have been Avaira brand for the last three years. A woman named Snyder suggested I try an Acuvue Oasys lens, which I said had not been good for me several years ago. She felt I should try it again, so she put them in my eyes and said I had to come back in a week. The lenses were not comfortable, so I said I did not want to switch to this brand. On my second visit, she said we could try a "brand new lens, just out" called Icuity. She ordered a trial pair and said they'd call when the lenses came in, after which I'd have to come back yet a third time so she could see them in my eyes. (Mind you, since the Oasys did not work, and these are yet to be ordered, I am now completely without lenses and wearing old glasses!) The lenses arrive, I put them in, and I call to make an appointment as instructed. They can't get me in for a week. Unfortunately, the lenses are uncomfortable and I cannot wear them more than two days. So once again, I'm without contacts. The week passes, and I go to the third appointment--yet again missing work--and I am put in an exam room where I am made to wait behind closed doors for more than 45 minutes. She finally arrives--with no apology for being late or making me wait--and she is clearly irritated that I don't like the new lens. I told her I wanted to go back to the lenses I've worn for three years, but she now wants me to try another Acuvue brand. Yes, really. She puts them in my eyes and walks me to the check-out counter. Imagine my utter shock when she tells the clerk to charge me an extra "fitting" fee. WHAT? Never had this been mentioned. I'm not the one who wanted to come back there, missing work and waiting 45 minutes to be seen by someone who is irritated because I don't like the lenses she is trying to push off on me. I couldn't believe it. I asked her to please release my prescription so I could call 1-800-Contacts and get my Avaira lenses. She refused. She said I had to wear the Acuvues for a week, let her know how they were and then we could take the next step. I called two days later to say the lenses were making my eyes red. I said I wanted to go back to my Avaira lenses. She had a clerk call me back and tell me that she would order a trial pair of Avaira lenses but that I'd have to come back so she could look at my eyes. WHAT?????? Is this for another "fitting" fee charge? I could not believe it. Absolutely horrible service. It's possible they get paid extra for selling Acuvue, but if that's not what the customer wants...?
