My main frustration here is the front office staff which leaves a lot to be desired. The younger office staff seem to enjoy most doing nothing but sitting there but they are happy to talk about clients behind their backs. Customer service and confidentiality is low priority. It took over a month to receive 2 boxes of contacts that were ordered and paid for on my first visit. I truly believe that if I hadn't called twice looking for them that I still wouldn't have them. The wait time to see the doctor is too long as well. My last visit it was nearly an hour and a half wait for the doctor. If my eyes weren't dilated within the first 10 minutes of arrival I would have walked out. The doctor is nice and seems very competent but available hours to see her are mostly weekday daytimes which is not convenient for my work schedule. Since I had to take off work early to rush to get there and then you had to wait for a long time to see the doctor, it seems they don't care about my schedule. It is poor planning on their side. The office is also cluttered with boxes of glasses and contacts that are not opened or put away and employee files. Patient records and files are left where others can look at them too. Overall happy with the doctor but unhappy with office staff and office organization. I will not be going back.

Wish I could review this place but every time I come here it is closed. I came to this place 5 times . And I came during working hours . Today was my last time . I stopped in at a little before 3 and there was a sign on the window that said will be back in 15 minutes. So I came back in the time frame and the note was gone . And the door was locked so I rang the buzzed behind me on the side window and knocked , no answer. Now I know the website says it closes at 4pm . I don't need a eye exam because I have a prescription and my insurance gave me this place to get my glasses . But this place has failed me , I am going to go to a better place and pay a little more . . .......

I want to start by saying that we waited 3hrs to see the doctor. Terrible customer service and they over charge for fittings. They won’t even email you your prescription. I do not recommend this place to anyone.

I have been going to Melrose Eye Care for years. Their dedication to providing fantastic eye care is the best in Chicago. Dr. Loretta De Koster takes her time to make sure you can see clearly and there are no underlying eye problems. There is no price that you can place on having glasses that fit correctly and you can see out of them. I now live in another state but I have no problems coming to Chicago the get the best eye care. Thank you Dr. Loretta De Koster.

Love how they took my 3yrs old son with no problem. The staff is alway friendly and always remembers my son. The doctor is a like rough around the edges but ah they really tried to work with me and my son. Got amazing glasses at a great price prefect for my sons life style

I actually interviewed with this Optical Practice. All I can say is that if they conduct business like they do interviews I would simply find a different Optical Practice for my Eye Care.

Stu W

Top notch service. On site opticians. Takes Medicaid. Usually street parking right in front. Dr. DeKoster is awesome! If you don't like to wait, schedule a morning appointment.

This place has bad reviews for a reason, long wait, useless staff, they up sell all other kinds of tests, one of which cost me 75 dollars and came back inconclusive which the still charged me for. Poor selection of eye ware and expensive even with insurance. I would not recommend even if I did not like you.

Reasons not to go to Melrose Eye Clinic 1. They may or may not be there. Currently they are operating on "winter hours." Which is code for "we will come in when we want and your needs can wait" 2. I experienced first-hand the abuse of the Dr's professional credibility when I was wrongfully prescribed and made to believe that I needed glasses. My initial visit was for a corneal abrasion (which was confirmed) but then was given vision tests which resulted somehow with a prescription for eyeglasses despite my temporary injury to my blurry watery eye. 3. Maybe I have a bad sense of humor, but I didn't appreciate being "jokingly" asked by the doctor, "what, are you allergic to glasses or something?" When I mentioned that I had never had a need for glasses in my life. If you have the resources and transportation to go somewhere else, just do. The lack of professionalism displayed by the untrustworthy staff is enough to cause unnecessary stress to your schedule.

They were nice and it was clean but I waited over an hour past my appointment to see the doctor... This is not acceptable to me when I've been scheduled for an appointment.

Hipolito Rodriguez

Terrible customer service. If I could give no stars I would. They held my prescription hostage for about 3 weeks. I had to call the insurance company in order for them to intervene and get my prescription. I will never go there or recommend anyone to this place.

Very displeased with the service here! We came here for an eye exam for school for my son, we came and waited about 30 minutes the Dr was very nice and professional the whole appointment took about an hour and a half it was a long wait but it was fine the woman at the front desk said 7-10 days for his glasses to come in.... it's now 2 WEEKS LATER! I havnt received a call so I decided to call my self and see and they said they had just come in.. its Saturday so they are open till 3. We get there at 2:15, 45 minutes BEFORE they close and the doors are locked and no ones here or answering the phone I waited about 20 minutes standing by the door calling, knocking, and ringing the bell.... NOTHING! I literally called to tell them I was on my way! We stopped on the way to my nephews birthday party and now I'm running 30 minutes late and I couldn't even get my sons glasses! Now I'm going to have to wait another week for my son's glasses because i dont drive and my husband works late all this week! My son starts school this monday so he'll have to go all week with no glasses... I'm extremely disappointed and upset! UPDATE. so I called back about 10 minutes after leaving and got an answer! The receptionist apologized and said she was in the back filing paperwork and that she didnt hear me, but regardless that only the eye dr was allowed to give the glasses out and that she had left early so regardless I wouldn't have been able to pick up my glasses... IF YOU SET YOUR OWN BUSINESS HOURS AND PUT THAT YOU ARE OPEN TILL 3PM YOU NEED TO BE AVAILABLE TO DO BUSINESS TILL 3PM!!! I'm extremely annoyed. Especially because I called ahead!

I have been a patient of Dr. Loretta De Koster for over 2 years and I can honestly say that she is THE BEST when it comes to eye care. In all of my years of going to an eye doctor, I have never had such a more thorough and extensive eye exam in my life. Dr. De Koster and her wonderful staff (most notably, Betsy for her warmth and welcoming nature), go above and beyond in treating your eyes. From pre-exam testings, to the actual eye exam and then to the fittings, it doesn't get any better than this. They truly care about the patients that have the good fortune of coming here. You can have your America's Best and all of the other advertised eye centers that treat people who go there with an arm's length type of service and who charge for every little thing. If you want Illinois' Best, go no further that Melrose Eye Center where they treat you like family. To the people giving Dr. De Koster 1 star reviews, I don't know what eye center YOU went to, but obviously it is not Melrose Eye Center. Maybe these people are the type who give bad reviews who've never been here. But whatever they wrote is the complete opposite of those who actually go here and are treated like family. Ignore the negative reviews. They're not worth your time or faith.

I rarely share my opinion publicly, but my last visit at Melrose Eye Care forced me to do so. I arrived earlier then my actual appointment time and there were no other patients at the office. I waited to be called for over 20 minutes after my appt time and during that time the doctor just sat at her office. After 15 min her employee came and they were doing some organization stuff. My time is valuable too and I just felt disrespected! I will understand if there were other people waiting and the doctor simply just ran late, but letting a patient wait if there is nobody else?! My whole family wears glasses and over years I visited many eye doctors. I never saw a business office mixed with an eye exam room. Simply it is a mess and unprofessional. It was my last visit for sure.

I don't understand the bad reviews. I went there with my son. We both needed glasses through our insurance, which they do accept. They accept many different insurance plans unlike most places. We were both examined, fitted, and had picked out frames in under 2 hours. They were ready in about a week (6-7 days). How much more can you ask for? The optometrist and staff were very kind. They made sure we were both comfortable through the entire process. We were even seen together so my teen didn't have to be bored sitting in the waiting room by himself. The waiting room and display area was very comfortable, clean and visually attractive. It was the best experience I've had in eye care in a very long time. There were many frames to choose from that were reasonably priced. They also carried many fashionable and trendy designer frames. They also had specialty sport glasses that are honestly the best ones I've ever seen. Something of a thought if you have active children that play sports. There are many choices for various family members, including children and teens. I will definitely be going back and recommending this to friends and family. Speaking of, my mother also loved it there. She found a pair of frames she was happy with too. I really can't even say one bad thing about this business. Give it a try!

Very friendly, passionate and personable staff! Dr. Loretta De Koster was very patient and thorough with ensuring my contact lens fit and were the best prescription for both eyes. I went through 3 different trial contacts for my left eye alone and her pleasant demeanor did not budge once. Great experience! I will definitely be going back for all my eye care needs.

Great place to get your eyes checked!!! I came in for an appointment for mom and ended up with appointments for my sister and myself. Mom had Diabetes eye check. Sister is getting glasses. I received treatment for an eyeball scratch caused by my 5month old son. The staff was concerned and the service was great with my family!!

Melinda Fraga

Horrible customer service. They tell you what you want to hear just to take your money. Will never do business with them again!

Waiting time is horrible!!!! Make sure you clear half of your day before your appointment

Daniel Bueno

If a negative star review was possible, that's what I would give this place. It's so unfortunate that the optometrist herself is such a pleasant person because her staff is so rude and unprofessional. It took more than four months for me to get my glasses despite me having to call multiple times. Definitely not worth the time or money!!

Very professional office. I worked with Anna and she is an absolute Eyewear rockstar. I will recommend Melrose Eye Care to anyone in the area looking for a trendy office where everyone is knowledgeable and helpful. You will not have a bad experience here.

Maribel Hernandez

It's a nice clean place, everyone that works there are professional and nice, my app was for a certain time and I was not called untill a hour later. Overall I will tell my friends to go to melrose eye crnter. Nice people. Also my eye doctor was very nice and knowledgeable.

Deanna Ballard

The staff and doctor are friendly but don't expect to be seen until an hour after your scheduled appointment. They never take their patients on time which is disappointing because this place isn't close to my home anymore. Not to mention, the selection is limited and the contact fitting is expensive. I went to Wal-Mart and got a fitting for $20. Bought my contacts online. I will be finding myself another eye doctor. Edit: After finally getting in to see the doctor, she looked at my eyes for 5 minutes and was very rude with the way she insulted my insurance as well as dismissive of me. I'm NEVER going to this place again.
