Without getting into too much detail, I would caution all to be very careful in going to Newsom Eye without getting a 2nd opinion. From top to bottom, it was a disappointing experience, but the biggest problem I had was the Doctor recommending surgery "within a week" after meeting with me for 10 minutes (after I waited for 2 hours in the dark eyes dilated). I got a 2nd opinion at a different retina specialist who found the same problems in my eye but told me it was 1/5,000 chance of ever becoming an issue. I feel bad for people who do not have the time or money to get a 2nd opinion and would have followed this Doctor's advice of an expensive, urgent surgery that is a 1 in 5,000 chance of becoming an issue. If you are recommended a surgery, I would get a 2nd opinion outside of Newsom Eye. With that said, the office manager was very nice and helpful in addressing my concerns.

Dr.Guggino did a great job on my 4 year olds strabismus surgery. His eyes are perfect! Seeing these other posts, it looks like the office has come a long way. I have never hardly had to wait anytime at all. Appointments seemed to move as scheduled and we have been in an out. The staff is friendly and everything flowed smoothly. We have been there 4 times this year for my 4 year old and my experience has been great every time! :-)

I am a retired military guy. They told me NO PROBLEM...they would bill through tricare...then they set it up and billed...Then THEY BILLED ME TOO. When it all came down they overcharged tricare AND me and then BLAMED ME. Billing people just DO NOT CARE. Doctor was OK at best...but nothing to scream about.

Friendly staff but there were so many people in the lobby I had nowhere to sit (its a very large lobby) then waited 45 minutes, was taken back by the tech, eyes were dilated, then brought back out to the lobby to wait another 45 minutes, then brought back in again and waited another 25 minutes alone in an exam room for the doctor to examine my eyes, I will most likey never come back here again! What a waste of a good day off of work!

I am so happy that I get my eyes taken care of at Newsomeye! I am one of those people who's had 20/20 vision when I was younger and it's been difficult to fit me with contact lenses...I am "a problem child" so to speak but Dr. Petit is one of the best opthalmologists I've ever been to. His enthusiasm and solutions he comes up with are excellent, especially for my contact lenses! In addition, the friendly staff and technicians like Nevi and Alex know what they are doing and are very helpful in every way. I also like their optical department with a lot of choices for frames and lenses! I'll be going there for a long time. Thank you NewsomEye!

Staff was great and I had a wonderful experience but when I arrived for my eye exam, I was told co-pay would be $60 with my insurance. I paid the $60 and after my exam they told me it was a mistake and charged me $245. If I knew it wasn’t going be that price with my insurance, I wouldn’t have gone there in the first place.

Last week I needed to bring my mom in for an emergency visit after a failed visit at USF. Michelle did what she does best and took care of us immediately by telling me to just start driving to the SouthTampa location. to see Dr. Srivastiva. Scared, we walked into the office and was greeted at the front desk with a warm smile. I was immediately put at ease that mom was going to be treated good. (Yes I was scared, it was a Friday at the end of the day AND we were keeping them late) from start to finish the entire team was FANTASTIC! This was my first time at Newsom Eye. It was a second opinion from St. Luke's. St. Luke's herded me in like cattle and was quick and not helpful with questions. They gave me a cataract exam, not an eye exam. Newsom was a WONDERFUL experience, The staff was well trained and completed a excellent exam and much better in the first 5 minutes of my exam. Dr. Garruto, spent a lot of time and answered a lot of questions. I do not have just cataracts, I have a lot going on and feel like I was well taken care of. You do not need a second opinion if you start at Newsom Eye. Thank you Michelle and Dr. Garruto and all the other staff.

Newsom eye is a wonderful eye clinic. I came in there due to eye pain and they had me seen immediately. I barely had to wait, the longest part of the process was filling out paperwork which only took about five minutes. I was brought back very fast by one nurse who did a very thorough check up and asked about my complaints. Then I was put into a room to wait for the doctor. About a minute later, another nurse named Brittany came in and introduced herself, asked how I was, cleaned all the equipment in front of me, then let me know the doctor would be in to see me in a few minutes, he just had to look at my chart. After a couple of minutes, Dr. Petit and his assistant Brittany came in to do the exam. Both of them were extremely pleasant and professional, a great duo of healthcare professionals. After Dr. Petit left, his assistant made sure I had everything I needed and gave me my first dose of medicine. She was kind enough to give me her email in case there were any issues with my prescriptions. Cvs told me they were on back order so I called Brittany and she got right on it & stayed in contact with me to make sure I got my meds. Dr. Petit also made a follow up call to me a couple of days later to see how I was feeling, which I thought was amazing, not many doctors do that. All and all, they went above and beyond to make sure my needs were met. I then came back about a week and a half later for a full eye exam to get glasses and again, had a wonderful experience from beginning to end. These people truly care about their patients and it shows! Thank you again Newsom Eye, Dr. Petit, and Brittany.

Update: Reviews have been so bad that employees and their relatives (Hi Kristi and Garett!) now write fake 5 star reviews! Previos comments: Poorly run. Since acquired, my visits have taken 2+ hours. Other customers in the lobby report similar (or worse) experience. The staff is always complaining about the processes and systems. Nobody can find records. My bills have been wrong, and prices have gone up. Newsom has had plenty of time to figure out how to run an office and clearly doesn't care about their patients' time enough to make it work. I will be finding someplace better and you should too.

Ive heard a lot about this office since i've lived in Tampa my whole life. It was time to get an eye exam and I called to make an apt and to ask if my insurance was in their network... The apt went well and everything was great, aside from the rude morning front desk staff. I was hit with a bill at the end that was over 200$ for a normal eye exam, which is way more than what insurance covers. So I guess I'm not in their network, but was told otherwise. They said I would receive everything in the mail. Fast forward to now, and I'm receiving a call from collections. After talking to the collections office I called Newsom Eye's billing department. The woman I talked to was just as rude as the person who checked me in the day I went in for my apt. After realizing they had the wrong apartment number for my address, she said "sorry we sent you mail and it was never returned so you'll just stay in collections."

Terrible. Billing department is completely incompetent. They are potentially running a scam. They initially didn't take our insurance, though they took all our insurance info even though we paid out of pocket. Upon follow-up with our insurance co. to seek reimbursement, we discovered Newsome had been paid by our insurance co. (and, remember, had ALSO taken our money for full amount weeks earlier). Three months later, they never informed us of this, or returned our money. My wife called and they said we had a "credit." Thanks but no thanks! Give us our money. We will never be coming back to this place which is run by people who don't have good/fair/ethical business practices. Total scumbags! Get your eyes checked somewhere else where you won't be ripped off by unethical business practices.

I was a patient of Dr. Green the audiologist at Newsome Eyes south Tampa location, and spent nearly $6,000 on hearing aids, from my own pocket. She left in May, and I was never even notified that she left and, isn't being replaced. I found out by calling after I didn't hear about an expected folowup from Dr. Green. I would think it a courtesy to at least email patients or drop a form letter notice in the mail. Very unprofessional. I won't be using this business for future eye surgery down the road.

Even one star is too many stars for this place! It takes hours to actually be seeing by the doctor. It doesn't matter what time your appointment is, really! I had 2 appointments scheduled for my kids, both were cancelled for no reason. No one there was able to explain why. People in the waiting room have all been there for at least an hour and it was a zoo! After spending an hour at the counter, I am taking my business elsewhere. This place was recently purchased by Newsome Eyes. If you think change is good, think again. Customer service has NOT improved. If you are thinking about making an appointment here, take my advice: DO NOT DO IT! Take your business somewhere else!

They addressed our reason for the visit in a very competent and professional manner...but the best part was how personable they both were with my daughter! Dr. Garruto took a few moments out of his demanding schedule to answer my soon-to-be college student’s questions about his major and path during his college years. This duo went above and beyond today! I highly recommend them!!!

Came here for a second opinion and ultimately laser eye surgery. Dr Srivastava was wonderful! From the consultation to the eye surgery itself. Great bedside manner - explained everything, took her time answering questions and very thorough. However, the support staff is another story. Had one eye done and the second eye 2 weeks later. Someone had charted the first procedure for the wrong eye and when I went in for the second eye they were ready to do the same eye twice. On the 2nd eye - Tech upstairs put a picture over my eye (indicates which procedure you are having) and put a different pic than I had the first time. I questioned it and was told the pictures were only for which eye and not procedure specific. Thankfully the tech in the surgery area realized the issue and changed the picture before I saw the doc for the laser procedure. Then at final follow up appointment they didn't have my paper chart. Nowhere to be found. Glad the procedures went well and didn't have any notes of importance the doc might need to see on follow-up! Order of which eye was done first/second was still wrong in computer. Then at checkout of follow-up I was billed my co-pay after being told prior that it was included in what I paid upfront. Problem is that they only have a 10 day window for surgery follow-up and my procedure mandates a 2 week waiting period so not included in the initial amount paid. Seems as if procedure would have a unique follow up period vs 10 day across the board. Overall, happy with Dr. S, but feel like the support staff either needs more training or better leadership.

As a new resident in the south Tampa community, I was in need of a local eye clinic and I found newsom eye to be relatively close to my house. Needless to say my first couple of visits have been very unfortunate and unorganized. Extremely long visits on top of an unorganized staff. Every staff member you talk to tells you something completely different from the other staff member. Not only is their miscommunication but a LOT of lack of communication. Nobody even called me to tell me my Contact lenses were ready, I had to call to find out my self, of course they tell me they will call me back yet nobody calls back, making me call back to figure out what’s going on. I can imagine the doctors are excellent at what they do, but an office staff is crucial to making the visits efficient and convenient for the customer. This was the opposite of my first two visits. Every time I call I can’t get a hold of the office at all and than end up talking to someone new who is unaware of what is going on, which leads to being on hold for 20 minutes. Really disappointed. Choose your eye doctors wisely.

After years of dealing with contacts and glasses, it was time for me to get Lasik. I researched doctors all over Florida and didn't find anyone I liked UNTIL I discovered Dr. Newsom. When I heard about Dr. Newsom and Newsom eye, I knew found the person I could trust with my eyes with. The entire Lasik experience was first class. The day after surgery I had better vision than I ever did with contacts or glasses. Thank you Dr. Newsom. You are truly the best at what you do.

DO NOT GO HERE! My daughter had what we thought was a stye on her eye, DR. Guggino diagnosed it as a chalazion, which was correct. My issue stems from the recommend treatment. He told my wife and I to hold down our two year old daughter and rub the chalazion with a q tip with medicine he prescribed on it in hopes that it would rupture. If this didn't work he was recommending surgery! You can imagine how hard it was to restrain our daughter to do this. When we had followed his direction for a month and saw NO improvement we went to Tampa Eye Clinic for a second opinion. When the doctor heard what we were doing he looked at us as though we had lost our minds! He recommended warm compresses and a prescription eye drop. Guggino is a QUACK! Do yourself a favor and go to Tampa eye clinic.

I was very nervous, the very first person at the reception desk was so nice that I started to relax. Paloma took me back and did all the pre work up and she was so reassuring and calm, funny and just NICE, that by the time I saw Dr.S I was all good. All of these negative reviews are total malarkey!!! I had a great experience at Newsom Eye and Dr. Alejandro gave me the best diabetic eye exam I've ever had!

Dr.Faynberg at the Newsome Eye Center on Swan is the best of the best. On Thursday I thought that I had a scratch on my eye. The pain level was severe and I knew I needed to see a doctor as soon as possible. The Newsome Eye Center took me in right away. They gave me drops for pain and introduced me to Dr.Faynberg..She diagnosed the problem as Herpes Simplex Keratitis Corneal Ulcer which can be very painful. ,She gave me eye ointment to use as well as let me know which pharmacy might have the medicine I needed. Since I was out of town, she suggested that I see my regular doctor the next day. I was able to see my doctor the next day. I was impressed that Dr, Faynberg called me 24 hours later to see how I was doing, check my pain level and ask how I was feeling.

Priscilla and Sherri that work in optical at the south tampa / Swann location were fabulous and a pleasure to deal with. Every time I come in for my appointment in-the last three years Sherri has been the most pleasant person to deal with. Helped me Choose a pair of glasses and will spend the time you need to get a pair you like. She is as Patient as they come. Priscilla has a great sense of humor and was proficient at her job and made my visit today great. I would recommend this eye doctor and his staff if you are looking for a professional group of people to deal with. David
