I was very unhappy with my visit. I was kept waiting for 1 1/2 hours after my appointment time, and when I finally saw the doctor I was made to feel like I was a bother to him - that I didn't know what my own eyes were seeing. Later, I went to my old optometrist to get my eyes re-examined and found that the doctor I saw at Clay Eye had indeed given me an incorrect prescription. I will never have my eyes examined there again. I will pay out of pocket to my original optometrist so that I ensure that I am receiving the correct prescription.

However, since Dr. Jones joined Clay Eye, I have experienced one very unprofessional interview with one of his colleagues, discovered that the office staff hid a letter for three months when I wrote to Dr. Jones, and the schedulers have made multiple mistakes in arranging appointments both with Dr. Jones, and with one outside specialist.

The billing person was NOT very knowledgeable re: benefits.. I just got off the phone with my Medicare Advance Insur. It covers ALL rouitne eye exam for $0.00 for the patient. It also covers retina, and glaucoma screening. When I told the person collecting at the front office the above and she was rude and stated we do nothing for free. She stated we are considered a specialist and you owe $50.00. My insur. stated it covers 100% I owe ZERO for an opthamologist routine eye exam. WHICH yes is a special!!!. I did not get that ladies name, but I will be calling and have my insurance on a 3 way call with your office in Orange Park, Fl.

The waiting rooms, yes rooms, are usually full which indicates that appointments are booked closely together, and it only takes one or two people with an unexpected problem to mess up the entire scheduling for the day.

Dr. David Hayes saw me on my first visit. I knew I was Glaucoma suspect, but after thorough exam, he diagnosed me with a condition, closed angle glaucoma. If left untreated, pressure would certainly have gone up and then serious damage could occur. He recommended surgery. Also, my cataracts had grown, and he could also take care of them at the same time. I had worn monovision in contacts. The surgery was 100% successful, and I do not need any reading assistance. Dr. Pecoraro handled an emergency after hours call when my son had a handful of sand in his eye. His calm demeanor and wonderful advice helped keep me calm during this trying situation. Dr. Donovan treated me same day for a foreign body in my right eye with great care and patience. Lack of diversity is apparent at this practice. While the staff is cordial, it's easy for a non-English speaking Hispanic to be made to feel like a second class citizen. The staff appears to be primarily compromised of white women. No Afro American, Asían, or latino at either of the offices we have visited. And some of the staff show little tolerance for the need of translating what is being discussed by the doctor. While the practice certainly has well qualified doctors, this is not a very welcoming environment for a Hispanic.

Wait times were tremendous, didn’t look through the documents I provided to indicate I had secondary insurance, office staff loudly complained about my supposed lack of planning and organization in giving these documents to them. The technician that saw me was exceptionally friendly, but the doctor that I waited for and saw was less so. I discussed my medical history with him and it felt like I was being crossed-examined and that he didn’t believe simple statements; i.e. that Mayo Clinic takes TriCare insurance. Left feeling upset, disrespected, and in disbelief that a company that was suggested so highly to me behaved so unprofessionally. Won’t be returning and have suggested to many that they seek an alternative eye specialist.

Dr. Pecaro has been my opthalmolgist for a couple years now. I am diabetic and have a detached retina in my right eye. Dr. P as been working with me to prevent this from happening in my only good eye. He has done the lazer treatment on it a couple times. The office personnel is most always polite and helpful. My wife sees Dr. Donovan for her glaucoma and she is very happy with him. My only complaint with the practice is they gave me the wrong prescription last year. I had to have my glasses changed twice before I decided to go to an optomotrist and got the correct prescription. My wife also had problems and they charged her to recheck hers and made a minor change to her prescription. This is the first time either of us have ever had an eye doctor's office charge for a recheck. Hence taking off one star. We will both have our refractions done by an optometrist from now on. No more letting a technician do the doctor's job.

This review is for the Optical Shop part of their Business. VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE! They take Full payment for your glasses and then don't contact your when they come in. My wife went in to see if hers had come in after not hearing anything from them for two weeks and she gets the line..Yes, they just got here and we were going to call you. But they made a mistake on her sunglasses and had to redo them. After another two weeks she goes back in to check on them and got the same line. Except this time they said they call her on Monday. Her phone showed no call from them on her call log. Remember you have choices.

Wait times were tremendous, didn’t look through the documents I provided to indicate I had secondary insurance, office staff loudly complained about my supposed lack of planning and organization in giving these documents to them. The technician that saw me was exceptionally friendly, but the doctor that I waited for and saw was less so. I discussed my medical history with him and it felt like I was being crossed-examined and that he didn’t believe simple statements; i.e. that Mayo Clinic takes TriCare insurance. Left feeling upset, disrespected, and in disbelief that a company that was suggested so highly to me behaved so unprofessionally. Won’t be returning and have suggested to many that they seek an alternative eye specialist.

My experience with Dr. Donovan dates to his days as a resident at Shands Teaching Hospital circa 1980, through the present. My Mother, who experienced a massive endopthamitis, went to her final resting place feeling that he was singularly responsible for saving not only her eyesight, but for saving her organ. I could not agree more whole heartedly. Following this experience Dr. Donovan treated me as a Flight Surgeon during my Naval Service, and in private practice has been my ophthalmologist for 25 plus years. During this time he has performed five surgeries, and handled my annual evaluations. Throughout this time he has demonstrated special and genuine concern for both my Mother and myself as patients. He is an exceptional doctor and individual. He always takes time to answer my questions clearly and concisely. I always leave his office feeling that I have been provided the absolute best care available. Over the years I have referred many friends to him and to a person they feel as I do. I could go on and on and stack accolades on top of accolades but will close it out by just saying that Dr. Donovan has my very strongest and professional recommendation without any qualification.
