Due to an old eye injury, it was important to me to find a really good eye doctor. I went here today and had a perfect experience. I arrived 5 minutes before my appointment time, filled out 2 pieces of paper, and then they were ready to see me - right on schedule! I saw Dr. Turano - she was very thorough in examining my eyes and had good info for me. Most importantly, I thought she was easy to talk to! My visit today was to be prepped and measured for my upcoming cataract surgeries. I was thoroughly and patiently educated, and counseled so I know exactly what to expect and what I’ll need to do. The entire staff was wonderful, as usual. Delaware Ophthalmology Consultants is an exceptional place for eye care. I’ve been a patient of Dr Lebowitz, a retinal specialist there, for close to 30 years, and I got my regular eye exams and glasses from DOC Optical for 20 years before that. The practice has grown bigger but also better; it runs like a well-oiled machine. The entire staff is pleasant and professional. I have complete confidence them, and have never had a single complaint. I love to repeat my favorite DOC anecdote: At some eye doctor’s office on Greenhill Avenue, both an optometrist and an opthalmogist has examined my mother and told her she was going blind in one eye and that sadly the condition was irreversible. I took her to Dr Lebowitz for a second opinion. It took him hardly more than a minute to notice that Mom simply had some fogging on the back of the lens implant she’d received when her cataract had been removed, a problem not at all uncommon and very easily corrected. With a 5-minute laser treatment, he restored her vision completely. Gotta love him for that!

I would not recommend the Silverside Location. My first impression was "assembly line"! I was there for nearly 2 hours for a basic annual eye exam and contact fitting. No one I encountered seemed very happy or helpful. The doctor wasn't even polite enough to look me in the eye upon introduction. There was no interest in making any connections, and overall communication was poor. It really seemed all about sales. During the time I was there I was also able to witness interactions with many other individuals, as well. There seemed to be many people "with concerns or issues", having been overcharged, or addressing errors in some way. As an individual who takes care of my "senior" parents, I didn't appreciate the way the senior patrons were being treated. There seemed to be a lack of consideration or patience, and again, poor communication. Saying something very loudly to an older individual isn't a way to help them understand what you're saying. It's just disrespectful. I will not be returning to this location.

All are extremely attentive to the patients needs and go out of their way to ensure the patient understands what is being done and what treatment is needed. Their optical department while expensive, they are thorough and have a good selection. Several of the employees are not overly knowledgeable or pleasant and unfortunately the one person, Courtney who was both knowledgeable and pleasant left about a year ago. Even so I like my doctor and will continue to use DOC.

I was pleasantly surprised to walk into the new, spacious and bright space. Everyone seemed happier. There was very little wait time. I've been seeing the doctors at DOC for five years after my other eye doctor couldn't help my eye issues. Dr. Wolhagan and Dr. Stewart are extremely nice and knowledgeable. They explain what they are doing as they are doing it. The techs and desk staff are also nice. I don't think I've had an appointment start at the appointment time, usually wait 10 to 20 mins to be seen. Exams go about an hour if eyes are dilated. Longer if you need to buy glasses too.

Dr Barrett performed two cataract surgeries in two weeks and I have been very satisfied with the results. 20/30 vision after years of wearing glasses, then bifocals. Now I need reading glasses only and am free of the nusiance of glasses. I also saw a dramatic difference in the colors of the world! Glasswear that appeared "brown" turned out to be purple. I was told over and over that I was "blind!" though I was positive I was right. I wasn't. I can watch a movie and the colors are much brighter and I don't have to wear glasses. Thank you Dr Barrett and company. You are the best.

Although the staff was very polite the glasses they made for me were very expensive and didn’t work. I explained over and over my issues with both lined bifocal and no line bifocal glasses in the past but they assured me they would find a fit that worked. I paid over $400.00 for glasses without concern after being assured if they didn’t work out they would work with me to get glasses that worked. After trying to make the glasses work for a few weeks I returned to see what they could do. At this point they asked a very important question and THEN told me that these glasses would NEVER work for me. Not sure why they never asked that question first??? The only resolution was to get reading glasses?? REALLY I purchase reading glasses all the time at the dollar store so of course I wanted to know what kind of refund they were going to offer me. NONE!!! Basically I feel like they ripped me off charging me over $400.00 dollars for a pair of dollar store reading glasses. Be very careful before you purchase their expensive glasses. The important question they asked AFTER I paid for the glasses was “Do you get motion sickness”. If the answer is yes then apparently bifocal glasses won’t work for you. Maybe they should start with that question but then they wouldn’t be able to collect all that money from their patients. Great staff there. They smile so nice while they rip you off!!!

One of my cataract implants grayed out some after eight years which just happens in some cases. Dr. Lebowitz fixed it same appointment in-office with a YAG laser capsulotomy. Correction in vision just about instant, same afternoon. Wow!

I have been going to DOC for over 20 years. I love all of the doctors & eyeglasses professionals. In particular, Dr. Jamie Wohlhagen my favorite optometrist/ophthalmologist in my life & Amanda has been creating my glasses for years and years. I have a lot of problems with my eyes: nearsightedness, crossing eyes, cataracts, & my tear ducts clog. The biggest problem is my crossing eyes. My eyes require special prisms to uncross my eyes. Dr. Jamie has a special expertise where she physically “builds” my glasses. It is not just a special prescription. It is truly a suitcase with lots of lenses & special prisms she adds on physically to create a special type of glasses, just for me. Amanda in the glasses department understands my eye requirements, and helps me choose just the right glasses to match my special conditions. My tear ducts constantly clog. I see Dr. Abel who uses some type of needed to release the clog magically. DOC has 3 locations. I first lived in N. Wilmington and went to the Silverside Rd. location. Then I moved to Newark and went to the Limestone Rd. location. I recently moved to Middletown, DE where they also have an office. All the same doctors and staff are available at all 3 locations. As I said, I have been a patient here for over 20 years. If you are looking for an eye doctor’s office for typical prescriptions or for unusual problems, I highly recommend Delaware Opthalmology Consultants. A++++++++

Delaware Ophthalmology is one of the best places in Delaware for healthy vision. Dr. Abel was able and willing to assist me with the concerns I had . This office front desk were kind, polite and customer service was professional and great! The assistant was very kind and knew her stuff!
