BACKGROUND: I would not recommend using Sierra MVD Title & Registration Service LLC. I lived in Albuquerque but I bought a new car in Utah and the dealership used this company to register my vehicle with the local MVD. About a week after purchased the vehicle, I received a call from Sierra Title saying that I owed them around 260 something bucks for registering my vehicle and that the dealership said I knew that I was supposed to pay this fee. So I asked what was this fee comprised of, so I could call the dealership and verify because the dealership previously told me that I would not have to do anything to register my vehicle. She replied that it was title, registration, and her fee for processing. So I called the dealership to find out who told Sierra LLC that I knew I had to pay a fee, and why they didn't pay her the full amount for my registration. Long story short, I paid the 260 dollars (which wasn't towards the registration or title, it was just Sierra fee).
During this time, my wife and I were also in the process of buying a house and we were moving out of our residence in less than 30 days. The lady at Sierra MVD recommended that we wait to see if we close on the new house before registering; however, she had to know before May 25, 2017 or we would be penalized by the MVD. On the 24th, we called her and asked her to use our current address because we had not yet closed on the house. She informed me that the penalty actually took place on the 24, but she would eat the cost because she told me the 25.
On May 31, I contacted her to check on the status of the registration, and she said that she had not submitted the registration because she has been out sick. I informed her that we were no longer located at the previous address and that we have moved to Rio Rancho. So then she use used my new address to register my vehicle.
On June 5, 2017, I contacted Sierra LLC to check on the registration during their business hours of 9-5, M-F. The lady told me it was ready, but she was closed today; however, she would make herself available if needed. She also told me that I need to pay the penalty assessed to the registration. I reminded her that she said she would eat the cost, and she told me if I felt I didn't have to pay, then don't worry about paying it. When I got there to pick up the tags and registration, I signed next to this big black star that she had drew on my registration with a black sharpie marker and I went on my way.
OUTCOME: Later on I noticed that the star covered up the amount of Fees Paid; I also noticed that the numbers had been penciled in on my registration because you could feel the indentation on the back of the paper. So I called the MVD to report this alteration and cover-up; the registration is an official motor vehicle document and should not be altered by any third party company. The MVD said the amount should be $1406.24 in the Fees Paid box and my registration did not have any penalties assessed to it. The fees paid were altered to $1906.24 and then covered with a black sharpie to avoid detection.
ISSUE: I was lied to about the 260, which led me to call the dealership under the impression that they lied and did not do their job. Sierra fee is actually 35 dollars to register a vehicle with the MVD, as I had someone call and ask their price after the fact. The dealership paid the correct amount, but did not paid the fee for Sierra Title to process the registration. Sierra LLC then lied to me about the MVD assessing a penalty to my registration, in which she later tried to have me pay. I don't like being cheated and lied too, especially, when it comes to money. When this happens, I make sure I post a review to ensure people double check what happening with their transactions. Last but not least, altering an official MVD document and trying to cover up the extra money that she charged me to register my vehicle. I will be reporting this company to the better business bureau.
