BOTTOM LINE: Avoid this office. You may be seen in a timely manner, but clerical errors may necessitate additional visits and a true test of your patience. UPDATED REVIEW WITH DOWNGRADING FROM 5 STARS TO 1 STAR: I originally wrote a glowing, 5-star review (see below), but am revising it based on the following. Due to mistakes made by the clerk during our first visit, I was required to make a 2nd visit to resubmit title paperwork. The clerk had submitted my VIN number but connected it with someone else’s vehicle. At my 3rd visit to finalize everything, I was told that I still needed a power of attorney and would have to come back a 4th time. Thankfully, I was paying more attention to the documents in my folder -- all of which I had handed the clerk — and noticed papers that negated the need for a power of attorney. So, I was, indeed, able to get through with everything on my 3rd visit, despite what the clerk told me. During my 3rd visit, two other people were served next to me. One stated, “Well, I hope the third time’s a charm,” but was sent away and told to come back a 4th time because he still needed certain documents, which he apparently hadn’t been told he needed before. Another customer was also there for the 3rd time. ORIGINAL REVIEW WRITTEN AFTER 1ST OF 3 VISITS: Despite the many poor reviews, my husband and I decided to try our luck here. Our experience was very positive and we found the customer service to be excellent! Upon arrival, we were immediately met by Marcos who reviewed our documents to ensure we had what we needed. He placed us in the electronic queue and, after an approximate 35-minute wait, we were seen by a polite and funny young lady who processed our documents efficiently and professionally. I’m unable to compare the customer service and length of time spent here with the real MVD, but our experience was great!

Our experience with Martin today at MVD was fabulous. He was polite, friendly and we noticed that he was attentive to everyone that came in the door - with a nice smile and an offer to help. We had a number of things to do - registering a new car and getting tittle as well as having an older car re-registered. He took the extra time all with a smile, and also made sure to add a phone number that was needed, and we actually ended up saving over $100.00 due to his diligence. We had no idea that it was needed, and without his going the extra mile we would have paid more. We highly recommend MVD - have used this facility for years, and also Highly recommend Martin.... Far from fast, friendly or efficient. I never in my life have had worse customer service! I can't remember her name but by the way she dresses she must think she's barbie. She was rude, disrespect and acted like I was a criminal for wanting to get a new licence. I will make sure that I know does not use this place, I would rather wait 8 hours for a license than deal with this place 5 minutes!

Arrived at about 11:00 AM on a Wednesday to get my NM driver's license, being a new resident to the state. I was helped by Dima and service was quick, efficient, and friendly. The convenience and efficiency at MVD Express is well worth the $30 fee compared to the actual MVD field office. I recommend!

Normally, I dread going to the DMV more than getting a root canal. Typically, the attendants at the Camino Entrada office are surly and ill-mannered – and that’s on a good day. They are so mean, they could make a hatemonger Ann Coulter cry. So, this time, I decided to go to MVD Express for my Real ID driver license update and my teenage daughter’s Real ID provisional license. Despite not having the correct proofs of residency, the staff helped me for half an hour locate the proper state-mandated proofs of residency documents, and they did so with a genuine friendliness and patience that surprised me. I was able to bring up various documents from the cloud on my smartphone, and when I found the ones that the state would accept, the assistants at MVD Express provided an email address to mail them to so that they received them right away, saving me an hour round trip home and back as well as scanning and copying fees. I never had to wait more than two minutes for someone to answer my questions. The office was well-staffed, and during the time I was there, people were assisted almost as soon as they walked through the door. The nicest one by far was Dima. At the end of a long day and workweek, she maintained a sunny disposition, and despite how long the process took to upload our documents, she chatted with us amiably and celebrated each document’s successful submission with a cheerful “awesome!” She understood how stressful the whole Real ID process was, so her positive attitude made a big difference. About 45 minutes and $40 later, my daughter and I bade Dima farewell and left MVD Express with our temporary licenses and a smile. Getting your federal Real ID driver’s license requires a lot of organization, preparation, and patience. And that’s just the part BEFORE you get to the DMV. I believe that the employees here have received negative reviews because people are rating the difficult Real ID verification process because of the out-of-date required documents table that the state posted on their DMV website. Other negative reviewers seem like they don't like waiting in line and think they have to be first always. None of that is MVD Express' fault. Make your experience a painless one rather than a traumatic one and skip the state DMV offices. Make a beeline for MVD Express instead. You’ll be glad you did. It is more than worth the small fee to be treated with respect.

When you wish you had taken his name...this place was the friendly alternative to the MVD & that's why it was worth the extra cost, but the "greeter" who was a supervisor of some kind because he had to unlock the computer for the nice woman who i had an appointment with...he was AWFUL. He was rude to me. He was rude to the 2 elderly men after me. He BARKED "what are you here for?" without any hello, the other staff looked embarassed by his behavior. I said I had an appointment to renew my registration for my other car. 'IS THE CAR HERE?" me:No, I was here the other day & you did not get my email of my insurance card so I made an appt. to come back.HIM: "for out of state the car must be here"me: i never said it was out of state. HIM" SO YOU JUST NEED TAGS. HAVE A SEAT". Next guy, a man in his eighties wants to renew his driver's license, he starts BARKING that the man needs his birth certificate & that if he doesn't have a star on his current license, he will need LONG LIST OF STUFF....man never got a hello, man leaves without saying a word, looks stunned. Next man gets similar script, walks out & mumbles obscenity. This guy needs to be demoted or fired. Woman that helped me was great.

I am very pleased with the service today, I went in earlier this week and the manager was not in, really long wait, only 2 windows open, etc... So I was pleased to see the manager in today, getting everyone in line. Took me 15 minutes, very friendly and polite. I went to the state MVD office and it was absolutely horrible, so coming here was a relief, no 4 hour wait, no rude employees, and instructions on how to do everything. The state offices are unbelievable, unacceptable and everyone treats you like a prisoner in jail, it's sad that NM is like that. My friend worked at the MVD state office in Espanola and quit because of the gossip, and bad attitude of everyone in the department. Thank you MVD express for making my experience quick and painless, even with a double transfer title. The state office would not do it for me. Capitalism at its best, the government is full of incompetent people....

First: MVD Express is a private company and charges $29.95 for you to use their services (plus the usual MVD fees). They do not tell you this until AFTER you have waited for your turn. They also do not tell you (at all) that there is an extra charge if you use a credit carded. After waiting almost 1 1/2 hours, and seeing several people who arrived after I arrived be served, I approached the desk and asked about where I was in the queue. They were unable to locate my name, and I was told that I would now be fourth in line. No apology or explanation was given. (Evidently, this very same thing happened to another customer who arrived before me. He was complaining about having spent 3 hours waiting!) At the 2 hour mark, I was finally served. The rep was courteous and efficient. That's when I was told about the $29.95 charge, and that MVD was a private company. So, I paid this extra fee for 'service' that probably took longer that had I gone to the real MVD. Lesson learned, information and experience shared.

I went in to get a lost I.D replaced, and was helped by quicker then i was anticipating. The service itself was fast and i was in and out before i could really feel a "DMV' like chill in my spine, and Martin was prompt, kind and well versed to the need at hand! I will be going here from now on.

What a mess, I love this place and always come here. I am just always surprised that they treat me like an alien from another planet. Been coming here for 14 years doing the same thing over and over. I would think I would be recognized. Plus, everyone is so conflict averse that they haven’t a clue how to negotiate thru people’s unhappiness. I gladly pay extra to have this service and support local business but MVD Express makes it so difficult to be loyal. Training, training, training.

This was the best mvd experience I've ever had in my life. The girls working were super cheery and nice. I made an appointment online and was called up immediately.The computers went down a couple of times due to the crazy winds we were having today, but even with that happening I was in and out of there in less then an hour for a NM drivers license, plate registration and Title. I have ever seen so many happy people working at an MVD office. 100% worth the extra fees to not have to spend a whole day waiting and deal with grumpy workers!!! I wish I would've gotten the girls name who helped me, she was so great!

I've been going to the Santa Fe location for years. I have a love-hate relationship with MVD Express. I like the convenience of the location and that you can make an appt but their customer service is TERRIBLE when you get there. During my last experience I was told they were out of the title they needed for my car and I would have to come back. If I came back I will be past the 30 days required to register a car without a penalty. I asked that they waive the late fee when I come back since it is their fault that they don't have the title. I told them I was going out of town and couldn't come back prior to the expiration of the 30 days. Not only was I inconvenienced by having to come back due to their not having a title in stock but I was also told that it was my fault I couldn't come back in time and they wouldn't waive the fee. They are totally inflexible and getting all of the money they can for fees is more important than their reputation (I told them I was going to leave a bad review). Oh well. I will probably go back begrudgingly but it continues to be with a bad taste in my mouth.

There is nothing "Express" about the MVD Express. There's a good chance you'll wait less time at the regular MVD. I had to wait almost an hour and a half at the MVD Express vs. a 40 min. wait at the real MVD., the last time I went. Then they have the nerve to charge you $34.00 above the MVD cost as a "Convenience Fee". Save the cost of the extra fee and just go to the MVD!

Soul sucking experience. Five employees, four standing around doing nothing. Waited two hours to perform a simple car registration (car already titled!). There is no number system, you give a name and hope at some point they call it. For this they charge double what the regular DMV charges. If you have literally, ANY other option save yourself two hours of what I can only describe as a horrible social experiment designed to bleed what little joy you may have left in you.

Long wait. When we walked in a girl at the counter took our name but never checked us in. we waited over an hour before we found out. They have many employees. However, over half of them walk back and forth NO one is really being served. I have coming to this location for over 10 years only to see the service get worst every time. The business is call MVD express. However, there is NO express at this business. They charge for express service. But that's not what you get. You will be better off going to the real MVD.

I was a bit weary about coming here as my last experience was not the greatest. But it was the weekend and they are the only ones open. I was unsure about a change that I needed to make in regards to a title. At first when checking in the girl wasn’t very patient in letting me explain what I wanted and talked extremely fast. This made me a bit upset as I was trying to explain my situation and she talked over me. The manager I think it was, Valencia or Vanessa, stepped in and talked me through it even helped me think of a better solution! Talked to my daughter over the phone in Texas and explained to her what we needed and that was perfect. I appreciate her patience. I had a great experience and awesome customer service from Aide at MVD express on Saint Michaels Dr. Having just recently relocate to Santa Fe from Southern California , I found MVD express to be a very refreshing experience as opposed to waiting in long lines for a couple of hours. Aide was very knowledgeable and friendly and helped me navigate several motor vehicle registration issues related to my recent move. For quick and professional service, MVD express is the only way to go.

The experience here was amazing! By far the best MVD experience I have had. The only downside is the wait time (due to when I cam in), and I was unaware of how the fees worked. All issues were my own fault. Martin was absolutely wonderful, and made sure I understood everything.

This place just terrible. They charge a huge convenience fee that is supposed to pay, at least in part, for customer service, but don't expect any. My license plate is only a few years old, but all of the paint has peeled off. Even though purchased the plate from MVD, the supervisor told me that it wasn't her fault the plates were poorly made and that I should take the issue up with the DMV. Great! Thanks for sucky service. Save your money, pay for gas, and make the trip to the real DMV in the first place.

The ladies were helpful and nice, but there weren't enough of them working so the wait was well over an hour. The carpet was dirty, the building was cold and the bathroom had no toilet paper or soap. The mvd took me 20 minutes the last time I was there, and I didn't have to pay an extra $60 in fees. Won't be coming back for this "convenience" again.

Actually should be negative stars so much for express been here for 3 hours only to stand here wondering what is happening without these girls letting me know what I need after talking to each other for half an hour and not communicating to me they finally tell me what I need at the end when I asked since the beginning . I accompanied my wife who was hoping to acquire her handicap placard for her vehicle.We gave the girl at the front desk her name and waited 65 miniutes before being called up several poeple that arrived after us were called ahead for service that turned out to be a longer interaction this staff has no method of keeping track of their patrons and will accommodate people they are familiar with first . Good thing for the ownership that there are no other MVD express outlets to compete with. This staff really needs a training session!!!

I had an appointment, checked in early and was waiting 15 minutes or so when I overheard something about the system being down. Would have been great if someone actually told me that without me having to figure it out. Front desk person was not very helpful. Also, I get that it is the incompetent state system that goes down a lot but mvd express can communicate better including having the phone system indicate when the system is down so people don't wait on hold in vain.

Very convenient. It took a couple visits to clarify the paperwork required and all that we needed to do to get our title transferred, but once the process was understood and all went smoothly after that. When the transferred title was received, MVD called us just as they said they would. We were even allowed to select out license plate and got a great number that is easy to remember. Locals love this place. They must since there's a 30-minute wait, no WiFi and a $30 surcharge on ALL transactions. And their computers went down today, 9-8-16. Voter registration available. Two stars for the convenient location and the friendly staff. One star for the geniuses who cooked up this business. NOTE: This is not a state-owned facility. The State of New Mexico MVD has no $30 surcharge. With a numbering system that gets you to the counter quickly and a large, friendly staff, the state's Motor Vehicle Department is actually a better value. (The NM State location is on the south side of Santa Fe.)

pathetic. waited a full hour starting at 3:30pm with only 5 other customers in line before me. Finally gave up at 4:30pm after 4 of the workers just got up and walked away from their desks leaving only two people serving 15 customers. This place is ridiculously slow compared to the real DMV, and from seeing their “rates” can’t be worth paying their $30 “convenience” fee for each piece of paper-car registration $30 + vin verification $30?!

We still had to wait for about 30 minutes, but the environment was way better than the actual DMV. They actually smiled when we walked in, said 'welcome', and took our names (always better than being a number). Martin was really nice and even offered to have the entire staff sing 'happy birthday' to my son, since we were there getting his learner's permit on his actual birthday. Pleasant experience overall and recommend it. Only drawback was that it was an extra $30 that we weren't planning on spending.

Business ethics matter. Unfortunately though here, they do not exist. I was charged the same 30 dollar fee twice, plus other fees, and none of it was explained. It wasn't until I got to my car with the semi-itemized bill that I figured out what had just happened. I was told and accepted that I would pay up to 30 dollars for coming here instead of the MVD where I spent most of the morning waiting already. WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW IS THAT THEY WILL CHARGE YOU THE 30 FEE UP TO SEVERAL TIMES PER TRANSACTION, AT THEIR DISCRETION, WHILE SMILING AT YOU. Avoid this wretched hive of scum and villainy.

Spoke to a manager (Bryan) who told me that MVD Express cannot accept an out of state notary that has a separate attached notary page (as is the custom in lots of other states). I was told that the out of state owner would need to give power of attorney to someone in New Mexico in order to get a proper New Mexico notary. I called the MVD line and they assured me this was not the case and that they can and do accept out of state notarized documents with separate notary pages attached. How this person was ever made a manager is beyond me. Telling people they need arrange for a power of attorney to do something as simple as transferring title is ridiculous and shows a complete lack of understanding of the legal system.

Going here is almost as bad as going to the MVD in Santa Fe. The employees seem unhappy and you will find a waiting room full of unhappy customers most of the time. I have found the service there to be less than courteous. I generally think it is usually worth it just to drive to the MVD office.

Trying to register a vehicle. Brought all the documentation listed THREE TIMES. Every employee wanted a different set of documents. Leave and go get them, come back, told we had the wrong documents AGAIN by a different employee. They tried to blame us even though we showed what the previous employee had requested and all the photocopied insurance cards. No one here knows what they are doing and are aggressive and defensive when they know they are wrong. This place is a joke.

We came to the MVD Express after fleeing intolerable waiting time at the Los Alamos MVD, and because our closest MVD site, Espanola, has repeatedly demonstrated that they specialize in denying whatever the customer wants. We were probably lucky to come on a Saturday when the driver license and ID system was being updated by the state, which surely reduced the number of customers. We had no waiting time, and Kimberly expertly and efficiently handled the registration and titling of the two vehicles we had purchased outside New Mexico. She and other personnel were friendly and helpful. Although we couldn't get our Real ID compliant driver licenses at the time, we did confirm the documents we'd need, which was very helpful given all the confusion and error that has accompanied this process for many New Mexicans. We love MVD Express and consider their competence and efficiency well worth the fees they charge, as well as worth our driving to Santa Fe and back from Espanola.

DO NOT GO HERE. Waste of time and money. Paid the convenience fee for a VIN Inspection...took it to the DMV a week later to complete registration and there is an error on the VIN Inspection. Then I call MVD Express to ask for a refund since there was an error on the VIN Inspection...not an option unless I take extra time out of my day to bring my VIN Inspection there to prove there was an error (because they don't make copies of this stuff!?!?). So you screw up, now I have to make a 3rd trip to the DMV, and you want me to come there AGAIN??? I'm cutting my losses, I give up with these people. Don't waste your time, the regular DMV isn't that bad. Wish I would have gone there to begin with.

While the extra fee can be painful, the staff here more than makes up for it. I had an issue with a vehicle that the regular MVD couldn't solve over 2 months and tons of paperwork. I was so angry and frustrated, I decided that the extra fee might be worth it. This place had my problem solved in less than 35 minutes. When you have an issue with MVD (and they can't or won't solve it), you can find knowledgeable and friendly people here.

Aide is the epitome of the rude MVD clerk stereotype. I had previously went into the other MVD office a couple of days before but unfortunately the system was down, while I was there I had a nice women check my paperwork so that way when I went back I had everything in order. She assured me that my paperwork was all in order and I would get my car registered if I went in when the system was back up. I made sure to ask if this was good for MVD express as well, in addition to pointing out that my name was no where on the insurance, she then let me know it was okay. A couple of days later I walked in at 5:45, and was called up at 5:50, ten minutes before close. I work out of town so this was the only time I was available. Aide at that point asked if I had insurance with my name on it, I then let her know I didn't and informed her of my situation. She was rude and refused to help me after I told her repeatedly I had gotten it checked before. She insisted they went off of the normal MVD system and rudely rolled her eyes as I left. I had no choice but to leave, angry and upset. The next day I left work early and went into the other MVD where my car got registered in 30 minutes and the clerk was really kind. I then told her about my situation, where she let me know that Aide was very misinformed, in my opinion it was 5:50 and she wanted to go home. NEVER again will I go to MVD express.

Having spent five trips to the NM state MVD office to register my ATV with negative results due to mis-information I would need given by employees there and having brought my ATV in for a VIN identification which they could not find and really didn't care to I said I would go home, find the VIN and return which I did and they then refused to look at the VIN because they couldn't find it the first time I was in. I was greeted each time with disrespectful employees who did not know what they were doing (or what they were even supposed to). State MVD employees were unprofessional, incompetent and ought to be fired. I then went to MVD Express in Santa Fe where I was greeted with enthusiastic employees who were just the exact opposite of those at NM DMV.. Within a matter of a few minutes we were inspecting my ATV for the VIN number which they found and I was well on the way of registering the ATV. I have nothing but exceptional words to express my gratitude to MVD Express for their professionalism, competence and for the graceful manner in which made the entire experience with them outstanding.

This review doesn’t apply to Marco who was great! This applies to the office as a whole. First, the state office is so inefficient and unprofessional that there’s no hope there. So you’re left with MVD Express. This place charged me $30 for a vin inspection. Ok ok...the state needs to suck the employer dry. Not the first socialist state I’ve lived in. It’s the additional $30 “convenience fee” I had to pay. That’s when I realized that MVD is a private company and that I was getting ripped off. Hey don’t even provide a line item receipt. I thought hey...I’ll try the state office down the street. Lol...yeah right. 1.9 Stars and no answer on the phone. This is why I need to get out of this state!

Don’t waste your money! Simply the worst service! The wait is just as long as the state and the staff VERY rude. They don’t seem to know what they’re doing and had a whole store full of disgruntled customers. I only wish there was a way give a minus five star. First I waited for over an hour. Then the woman that was supposed to be helping me do a simple change of address on a DL that was just 6 months old, decided I needed to get a new driver’s license because she didn’t like the fact that I challenged her on some private information she wanted! Whoever controls these people really need to do something about their attitude and competence! Terrible experience for paying a service fee! Absolutely horrible service, waited 2 hours for my scheduled appointment. They serviced people coming in the door, while I waited and watched. This was the most disrespectful service I had paid for in 20 years. First I have an appointment in order to avoid any delays. I arrive 20 minutes early just to be certain my appointment is in order. I was greeted at the door, yes, but then as I watched, one person after another come in, get their service fulfilled and promptly leave. I continued to wait. I attempted to walk out in disgust, not realizing there is a $29.99 + tax service fee, however, I needed my license updated. After reading an article in the local paper about the excessive "residency" requirements, I was on guard but had the documents ready. Many people did not have their documentation ready and were assisted anyway. I was finally assisted after asking when I will be helped. 2 1/2 hours into my scheduled appointment I was assisted! Would have been better service at the State office of MVD than this place and I would not have paid a service fee. I really didn't mind the service fee, it was the principle of waiting 2 1/2 hours while other people were assisted after I arrived and they didn't have an appointment. I basically paid for a service and received the full disrespect at the same time. (could have done better elsewhere). This place is just terrible! Just cannot fathom the service fee for a service that is both disrespectful and unfair in business standards. Customers, even without appointment should be treated in a fairness order, first come first serve. Worst service I had ever encountered and I was honest enough to pay for it!

Today I went to the MVD Express office at 650 St Michaels Dr in Santa Fe, NM to pick up the registration and license plates for my new car. I met with Suzette Padilla. Suzette was welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable. She had all the paperwork ready and in about 10 minutes I was out the door with my new registration and license plates. Everyone was patient and courteous. They were also knowledgeable and communicated directly to my situation to get my paperwork issues resolved. The atmosphere of this office is very different from the Entrada location; in a variety of positive ways. Thank you Pam for all of your help with the many details regarding my paperwork. The last several times I went here wait times were just as bad as the State run MVD. Not worth it. Used to have efficient service. They are clearly understaffed for the demand. Skip it and save some money. As you can see from my photo, there is no one being helped and a ton of people sitting in the office waiting. Express? Hmm.

This organizations website is poorly designed at best. For example, what I am having difficulty with the most is something that should be so easy, a caveman could do it (having to resort to other marketing and organizational tag lines and phrases) because the MVD's website is so terrible and awful and makes my (and probably your) life difficult. The horrible, egregious excuse for a website, makes me question the talent of the MVD's web designers to design ultimately such a clunkley website. When I try to renew my registration, it says theres an error, that the information is not complete, but upon clicking no to not continue to the next page, I am not able to update or fill any missing information in, nor am I given any opportunities to fill in my information. This is unacceptable. Ridiculous for a governmental institution. Fix this error now.
