REVIEWS OF Mid-South Coin Co Inc IN Arkansas

Harry has always been fair with me I've been going into his shop for close to 6 years. Now I'm not interested in numismatic coins so there may be a valid criticism there I truly can't speak to that but the only mistakes they have ever made have been in my favor and since I am not a crook and I want to continue doing business there I pointed out where they had made a mistake in totaling my order up. One time Harry made the mistake of giving a friend of mine a whole roll of silver rounds extra which my friend returned after he figured out what had happened. I primarily use this shop as a way to accumulate silver and the prices have always been fair in that regard. As a business owner I would say though that when someone brings me something to sell there are many factors which go into my offering price and many times a price I throw out is just a starting point. I'm not trying to refute any claims made in other reviews but as always there are two sides to every story but Harry has always been fair and straight with me for what that's worth.

Not a very nice man to deal with. Pretty much blew me off where I wouldn't want to do any business with him.

I wish I had went with my gut instinct after reading the bad reviews on this place. But, I decided to give them a try anyway. My fiance and I visited this shop yesterday afternoon to have them look over some old silver coins that we brought in. From the moment we walked through their door, we were made to feel unwelcome, treatly extremely rudely and insulted. The man that "helped" us at the counter took a very brief look (and I mean very brief as in I don't care how long you've been doing this because there's no way that you actually looked at those coins well enough to even know what you're even looking at) at the four small bags of coins we had, picked up the calculator and barked out $211. When I asked him how much that was per coin and for which ones, he literally yelled "Are you selling this or not? I'm not going to waste my time looking at them if you're not!". Then another man, even more arrogant than the first one, from behind the counter stepped up and asked us if we had anyone else look at them. We told him that yes, we had been to one other place to get an estimate. Then he asked how much they offered. My fiance told him and the man starts yelling that there's no way they offered us that, accusing my fiance of lying and making up the amount and then goes on to tell us that he's been doing this for 35 years and that the other shop doesn't know what they're talking about if it were true that he was going to pay us that much for them. At that point, it would not have made a difference to me if these people have been in the coin business for centuries and offered us five times more. With terrible customer service like that, I don't know how anyone would want to do any business there, period. We ended up going back to the first place that we went to for an estimate (Bartlett Coins & Collectibles on Stage Rd. - in case you're reading reviews and want somewhere to go where they treat you respectfully and offer you a fair price) and I have to say that there is a huge difference between $211 and $815. Buyers and sellers beware! Go anywhere but here!

I just bought two nice graded coins for investment at Mid-South Coin. I've been a repeat customer there for over 20 years. They have a great selection and good prices. The staff is very helpful and I have always been pleased with every coin I purchased there.

I have to concur with the other bad reviews here. From the minute I walked through the door, I was faced with a combative attitude. The strategy is probably successful with people who just want to get quick cash for old coins they know nothing about (or stole). Well, I didn't know much about my coins, but I can recognize when someone is trying to intimidate and steal from me. Once he realized that I wasn't desperate for cash, he backed off a little and answered my questions. His best offer would be 80% of market value. Since it was the weekend, he honestly admitted that he would be hedging and offering even less due to the volatility of the gold market. I did not trust his haphazard appraisal of my coins, nor did I appreciate his criticism of their quality. A 100 year-old coin is what it is, just grade it and move on. He was only trying to drive down the price even further if he could. I've had more pleasant dealings with car wholesalers. On the other hand, eBay would take a 10% cut, PayPal another 2.9%, and then there's shipping and insurance--at least there are several potential buyers instead of just one. I'll take my chances there.

I had a great experience here. The man that worked with us was extremely nice and didn't seem pushy at all. Glad I went here even after reading these reviews. Don't believe everything you read on the internet!

Very nice staff. Good prices and very helpful. Lots of coin supplies and they sale medal detectors. I would HIGHLY recommend this company to sale your coins or buy coins.

This guy is a sleaze bag con artist. I already had my coins appraised before I went in, but I did not let him know. I just wanted a second opinion. He ("Harry") almost immediately asked if I had already had them appraised. He was fishing to see if I knew they were valuable. I told him no. He barely looked at them and offered me $100 to "get them off my hands". He was pushy and acted like he was doing me a favor. He literally told me they weren't worth anything. They were already appraised for $2,400!!! This guy is a blatant CON MAN. He even looks the part. Slick, greasy, creepy looking guy. His coworker was creepy, too. Take a body guard in with you if you go in there. BAD guys. BEWARE, BEWARE, BEWARE.

Matthew david

Very rude tried to low ball me and con me out my expensive coins I recommend not to deal with them at all period!!

This is a bait and switch operation: the guy's story will change every time you talk to him. If you go there, make sure you know exactly what you have and what it's worth. When he asks you to let him see all you've got, or take it home and look it over, don't expect to get it back -- and don't expect to get your money's worth. You must ask for a receipt if you expect one -- which will get you strange looks and attitude, since apparently this is not a business geared to those who keep track of their transactions.

The owner shot me a lowball offer, not even the value of the silver for half one coin for my two silver coins.

blythehopewell

I spent a considerable amount of time researching the value of my coins before taking them to Mid-South to sell. I had several collectible silver pieces and several ounces of silver coins worth their melt value. He offered nothing for the numismatic value of my collectible pieces and very little for the silver value. All together I had almost 14oz of silver and he offered me about $100 dollars. To top it off he seemed irritated when I wouldn't go for the offer and acted like I wasted his time, all 5 minutes of it. This store is in a rough part of town and several years ago the owner of the restraurant next door was shot in the parking lot on CHristmas morning. I would only go there with an armed guard or packing heat.
