Food was good, but the reason to go here is for the setting and view. Service was good and drinks were great. I enjoy their cocktail menu. They can support large parties, but if there is one large party(10-20) it will greatly limit other tables available. There is limited dining space indoors. When it's nice out, there is plenty of room. This is a great place to take out of town guests or business partners. You just have to figure out how to get up there. We generally know someone staying at Alex Johnson which allows access up to vertex.

I am a Vertex member and they always take good care of me. The Ye Old Fashioned Manhattan is my go to drink. (((Although any drink you might order is made very well!!))) Awesome views of the city like no other. Love my spot at the top of the world.

I sadly have to give this honest review. I absolutely love this bars amazing food, drinks and view!! Most of the staff is wonderful but one bad waitress can give an experience that sticks! We had our wedding reception at the hotel and wanted to take sunset pictures on the roof, we discussed it with the event coordinator prier to the big day and had permission to go take as many pictures around the hotel that we would like. Well while up at the vertex this waitress moved a table in front of us while we were taking pictures, had comments like "well they just need to leave" and "wow they weren't going to let me serve you" to her customers. (We were not in anyone's way and never blocked her from doing her job), she pushed a tray full of drinks into my photographers back and the list goes on. I really hope they can find a new waitress because this beautiful place and the other staff members deserve better then that! If it weren't for such a obnoxiously bad waitress I would be giving a 5 star review!

A wonderful find in downtown. We are visitors to Rapid City and wanted a local non chain Restaurant for dinner. We found it here in this great old hotel in the heart of the Downtown. We both had 2 appetizers instead of an entire. Bartender readily admitted he made me the wrong cocktail and remade it. Service buy Helen was fine. Atmosphere warm and cozy.

Incredible view of Rapid City. Gas fireplaces will take the chill out of the air for you. Drinks are very overpriced. This is a semi private bar so you might have to pay to gain access if you aren't a guest at the hotel Alex Johnson.

Vertex has the best bartenders and waitstaff in town. Cocktails are great and at a reasonable price. With the newly renovated kitchen, I bet their new menu is going to be phenomenal.

Only rooftop bar in town, a must if you're staying in Rapid. You will need to pay to go up, but the views of the city and hills alone are worth it. Great menu had a couple vegetarian options and the speciality drinks are phenomenal. Hailee has been there for the three years I've been stopping in and she's the best! I recommend you order a Vesper....like James Bond would.

Stopped by the Vertex tonight while family was visiting. Had such a great experience! We brought our little one and wanted to get her some icecream. Travis, the manager, overheard us talking about this and offered to get our daughter some icecream on the house. We were really impressed with this small generosity! All the team members that served us had top notch customer service. We will be back.

$20 dollars for a day pass. View was awesome... That's about it. Missing about half of their menu that was online. Place is outdated and dirty. Trim falling off the wall, bugs in all the light fixtures tables where dirty, upstairs was loud and lights constantly flickered. Food was eh at best. Waited over 45 minutes for dessert and place was maybe half full. Drinks where good once they showed up. Waiter did ask for some help with a larger table top and no one helped him. This is a Hilton Curio Collection Hotel... Hilton you have a lot of work to do. New management and a deep clean will help a lot.

Ordered 2 well margaritas that came to $28 after tip. The bartender miscalculated his recipe so the cocktails came up a little short. Instead of just throwing in a little more ice to make it full, he splashed in 7up or some bs lol... Long story short, he cheapened the most expensive drink you'll find in Rapid City. For such an exclusive establishment, they need to keep up on their upkeep... Throw a couple dollars towards the minor details like the very noticably broken light fixture... Otherwise, the view is amazing. Makes this town look halfway decent. If I was a tourist, I'd totally love it here!

My husband and I are members of this hotel rooftop bar and the small fee to have access all year round is totally worth it! The atmosphere is relaxed, the drinks are fun and the food is excellent. We became members because we wanted a place to go to for date night and we didn't feel like we had a place to call our own, The Vertex is perfect because it has incredible panoramic views of Rapid City, offers indoor and outdoor seating and the staff is very friendly. They have fire pits outside to keep you warm in the winter and during any cool summer nights. DId I mention the beautiful decor? I would recommend this to anyone visiting or to current residents. One of my favorite places to be in Rapid City!

To get in, you have to buy membership or stay at their hotel. If you are a traveler and not staying there, the onky way you can get in is to find someone with membership so you can be their guest. Wrong business model. They could at least make you pay cover and go in even if you are not member or staying there. It is the tallest building in the neighborhood and it looks like they have nice view. So I will give another stat for that.

The ONLY good thing about this place is the 'ok' view. The staff and kitchen is extremely slow, the food is over priced for the quality, and the drinks are way over priced. Did not have a good experience at all!

Server came over and told us that they made one of our drinks wrong and asked if it was ok if we just took that drink....weird, just offer it for free to us or make the correct drink (they are like $11 min. Drinks, bring me the right over priced one)....slow food service, food was bad. I had the pasta, no flavor and it was pastey. I had to ask for salt and pepper to try and make it edible...wasnt worth the calories so I just didn't eat it. My husband got the burger, the fries were cold and the bun was old. I have no problem paying a high price for food, but come on....just because you charge a high price it doesn't make it good....this was a very disappointing experience and we will not be back. If your gonna charge these prices you better show up with a quality product. Very nice view though.

Great ambience, but bad service and worse food. Food took 40 min and the waitress completely forgot the appetizer we ordered. I ordered a $36 steak that was cold by the time I got it, and was tough, gristly and seemed like it had been frozen. I ordered a side of asparagus and got 2 (yes two) asparagus spears. For $3 I added mushrooms and onions to my steak and received 5 or 6 barely seared (and off-tasting) salad mushroom slices that had clearly been borrowed from the salad bar. This is supposed to be an exclusive place with high end food, and it probably once was. However, it's clear that penny-wise management in the kitchen is hurting what could otherwise be a great upscale dining experience.

Did not have to pay to experince Vertex. Perhaps they realized that it is an outragous expectation, considering the 10 minutes that you stand in front of the bartender, while they tend to their phone instead of guests. Cocktail server walks around like he's employed by a sports bar. Drinks were alright, food delicious. Enviroment relaxing, and enviting. Service terrible.

Had to go to the bar to get my check and was ignored there for 10 minutes. Nice view. Expensive. Skip unless BYOB, and don't be hungry.

We were very disappointed with the service and unfriendly attitude from our server as well as the manager on duty. It took 20 minutes to even be approached by our server nearly 30 minutes to receive our drinks. We had to ask three separate times to receive our check and when I spoke with the manager I was dismissed as unimportant because “they were busy.” The Vertex is a small bar with plenty of staff, just not the right staff. As a local resident of Rapid City I would never suggest going to the Vortex as there are plenty of other establishments that even when they are busy treat their customers with kindness and respect.

My wife and I had drinks here on 28 October when we stayed at the Hotel Alex Johnson Rapid City. Nice bar with nice ambience and furniture. I can imagine the nice views on a nice weather day but being October it was cold and wet outside and the snow flurry was coming down so the views weren't the best. Staff were very good and service fast.

I went to vertex bar the first time I was in town and the bartender gave me the lowdown on the town in addition to Great drinks. Paul is a good example of a combination of both an old-school Western bartender who knows the lay of the land and someone who has a good feel for the modern. Great personality and even better drinks!

In a somewhat intimate setting even in cold weather this must be one one the best places in rapid city to have a drink. Service is quick and professional and the bartender is a trip! He will keep you entertained no matter what big you choose to seat at the bar. Drink menu is extensive and there are many other drinks and new variations that are not on the menu. Two outdoor rooftop areas with plenty of fireplaces make it an awesome time to sip a few drinks. I did not eat but food looked good. This is a member only and guests of the hotel and seems member can invite guests, so for the size of the place that is a perfect group of patrons. Decor is very unique and nice. And the best thing are their monthly promotions. Take a look at the discount of almost 50% on my tab. I has an amazing time! See the magic trick video from bartender.
