Great place for drinks or dinner. Went 3 times during our week in Charleston and enjoyed every visit. Cocktails at the bar were outstanding. Live music in bar, cool rooftop patios and a dance floor on 3rd floor, make it a real adult party zone. Highly recommended.

Very disappointed...went for lunch today. My half order of shrimp and grits was delicious BUT my mother had Mediterranean Tacos (2) - by the time u got to the second the tortilla was soaked and soggy w the vinegar dressing - inedible Explained to the waitress a cple of times- as we got bill she just said she would mention to kitchen and have a good day Now while maybe they should NOT have charged us nothing for this mostly inedible meal they at the very least should have some something

Let me begin by saying the service was phenomenal! We were seated promptly, greeted by our waitress and served all within minutes. The atmosphere was typical downtown, lots of classic and beautiful touches of original architecture around the building. The staff was fun, and kind! Our food was great! I got the watermelon salad, which was presented beautifully, had all the right components and was a pleasure to eat. My friend got a crabcake sandwich which he very much enjoyed! Overall, I felt the experience was very enjoyable, though I felt it was a tiny bit overpriced, especially for the watermelon salad. However, I recognize that space in Charleston comes at a premium and that translates to higher prices sometimes. I'd def go again!

Very bad experience first time at Henry's, a group 10+ friends went here for drinks and food as early as 7pm, after ordering drinks when we were ready to order food, we were told some of us couldn't order because kitchen was too full and had to wait 40+ min before ordering, so, a few people went out to grab a bite and come back for drinks, to find the surprised that they were charging cover to go back, we showed the person in the door we were consuming at the bar less than an hour(receipts and open accounts on the bar at our names), and he denied the entry, some of us had still the account open and even to go inside and close the tap we were given a hard time. If your clients are consuming at your place before is cover time, you shouldn't charge a cover to re entry, and if you will charge a cover, stamp the people, to avoid such a bad experience, never had seen that in any other place in any city. At the end, the group of 10+ people left your place very disappointed with no intention of recommending Henry's again to any event.

Very cool building! The food was pretty good, but the upper floors are what really set Henry's apart. 3 or more open rooftop porches, an eclectic whiskey room, and on the night I arrived - Jaws was playing on the outdoor projector. Many sitting areas with couches and fire pits. A very unique place to relax with family or friends.

We visited Henry's this past Saturday evening for a birthday celebration, and I wasn't very impressed at all with our service. Our server Abby wasn't extremely friendly she was rushing around and was very all over the place too busy for us, another server we asked for drinking straws and they were not handed to us they were thrown on the table. The gentlemen bartender was kind at all either. The food was okay, but over priced my husband and I will not be visiting Henry's again. As they say first impressions are everything!!

We we’re so looking forward to eating here again but ended up having a terrible experience. My daughters shrimp taco had a hair in it. There were dead May flies all over the window sills and floor. The waitress was very apologetic but the manager never said a word to us. I approached him before we left and told him how awful I thought it was that he didn’t speak to us. I’ll never eat there again.

If you’re a history person it’s a great place since it’s the oldest restaurant in Charleston, SC. I would say the Daly as a drink was extremely well made. The food was nothing but ordinary, with the exception of the Gator Bites. I’d only give it 3 stars, but because they actually served gator and the ambience, I’ll give it the extra star. If you want great food, plenty of better choices.

The rating for Henry's depends on what you WHY you are going there. If you want to enjoy a drink and you're already staying in the French Quarter then the atmosphere here is likely a 4-stars because there are multiple levels with different vibes to choose from - bar w/ sports tv on main floor, speakeasy upper floor and rooftop bar as well. All enjoyable. But if you're in the mood for a good meal, I'd probably go with another option. It's a 3-star meal in most cities but with so many many great choices in Charleston I'd recommend a lot of other options before this for the food. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with the food, it's fine. There's just too many other great options nearby you NEED to try before this.

Being a Chicago girl, I have every bar and restaurant at my fingertips. Henry’s isn’t just a bar or restaurant, it’s a part of Charleston’s history. It’s a must go to on any visit here. The crab cakes are amazing ! The different levels and ambiance gives you the option to dress in heels or go casual, it’s a beautiful atmosphere. I definitely give it 5 stars all day ! ❤️

Went for drinks on the rooftop bar. Great atmosphere, cool decor, and the bartender even made me a fancy fruity virgin drink (being very pregnant). The only downside was there isn’t much seating, and there is plenty of room for more. I would suggest owners place more seating there for patrons to enjoy.

Cool spot, went on a Friday. There is a cover $5 ladies , $10 guys. Definitely a bar and social stop. It appeared the club NV was either next door or a part of the establishment. Music sounded good. I didn’t go upstairs. Wait staff was fair. Best to go if you 1- are looking for good drinks, 2- want a cool spot to socialize around the bar, 3- you are 21-30, and white. This is not to say African Americans would not enjoy themselves , its just it’s not a club, bar , social spot teaming with black folks. I wouldn’t say the food was bad, it was just ok. Walk two blocks back toward the beach and swing by Hooked Seafood for better food.

Incredible atmosphere inside and on the roof. The food was out of this world. We had the seafood pasta and the scallops we're perfectly seared. The soft shell crab sandwich was the best!!! But what made this even better was the killer service. Nikki was truly amazing, attentive, and on point. We will be going back again today!

This has been one of the best places we have stopped off in Charleston. We decided stop here for lunch today. The over all the core of each level is really cool, Including the rooftop. Great night time atmosphere with very good live music. We were blown away when we walked upstairs to find multiple bars and probably one of the largest rooftops in Charleston. We sat fireside in one of the second story rooms and sipped thirst quenching libations. We had to convince ourselves to leave it was so comfortable.

The greeter was really nice and greeted me in a courteous way. I wanted take out so I was pointed to the bar. I waited 6 minutes and I had to ask the greeter if I could order with her. The bar was not busy at all. She proceeded to call the bartender. I ordered the Sea Food platter, Peel and Eat Shrimp and a side of rice. For the Sea Food platter I swapped the oyster for more shrimp because they said it was okay, I only had 8, barely fried shrimps, a slice of catfish with only the half part fried and a crab cake. The side of rice had literaly 5 spoons of rice and it was really dry. It tasted like re-heated rice. It came with french fries wich were impressively good. This is the second time I come here this week and both times I had issues with the food. The price to food ratio is not pleasing and the food did not taste good. The Charleston Crabhouse is literally 2 minutes from here and the food and service are great.

Love this place! There are so many different levels including the roof top which has two levels itself. There are different rooms on each level. We found a room with couches, chairs and coffee tables. We had a group of about ten of us, this made it so relaxing to sit back, have a few drinks and chat a while. Can't wait to go back!

Stumbled upon this place for dinner on our last day in Charleston- the best shrimp and grits I’ve had topped with fantastic jazz music and a lovely fun ambience. Wanted to try the rooftop but There is no food or appetizers served on the rooftop- just drinks. Worth a visit if you’re looking to have a lively and delicious dinner!

Loved the history of it being the oldest corner restaurant in Charleston! The vibe of the place is very 1920's. The service was amazing. Our waitress was attentive and super sweet; multiple managers were around to ask how the food was. I got the She Crab soup, and for $9.00 a cup I thought it was pricey until I had the first bite. This soup was AMAZING! The only regret I have is not ordering the bowl. I also got the Shrimp and Grits and the shrimp was so fresh! The menu has a little something for everyone while still showcasing their history and Charleston cuisine. If I am ever back in Charleston I am definitely coming back.

Visiting here from Miami. Had a waiter tell me that “junk collects in the South”. Insulted by his comments but ignored it. More than that, they’re drinks are not good. Sat on the roof top, clearly it was a very slow not very upscale crowd. I don’t need to give them my Miami down from dirt money “ let’s be clear, I live in a two million apt. What is wrong with these people. Where Do they live In a civil war bubble. It’s been decades!!!

Good vibes but REALLY BAD service. Tried to order food but was rudely told to try again in half an hour because kitchen 'was backed up.' My group left to grab a bite elsewhere and was assured we could get back in. Upon returning, bouncers denied anyone would have made such a promise and demanded we each pay a $10 cover to re-enter. Even showing receipts from an earlier bar tab did not get them to waive the entrance. We were 5 and would've spent much more than $50. Stupid and unfriendly attitude so we'll never go back.

Very disappointed in this place. I ordered a glass of wine while waiting for our table they were out. When we were finally seated we ordered the Oysters Rockefeller for an appetizer. They weren't making it this evening. The menu was not impressive at all. I ordered the shrimp tacos. The tortillas were cold. I had two pieces of shrimp in each taco and worst of all they used sliced cheese. Two pieces in each taco. The food in general was horrible. Not worth the price we paid. If we visit again we will definitely skip Henry's.

The food was so good we went back a few days later after our first visit. I loved the seafood dishes such as Shrimp and Grits. My wife enjoyed the Blackened Chicken Pasta. The atmosphere was very nice and I loved the decor. If you’re visiting Charleston this is a highly recommend restaurant. The portions are fair (not large or small). A little pricy but not too bad compared to the surrounding restaurants.

This actually happened today 05 may 2019. Well what can I say my friend and I have never been to this place before we are from Britain off a naval ship. The girl at the desk was pleasant and when we said we just wanted a drink we were told there was also an upstairs bar which were went up to. It was very busy and the waitress that was working there was by herself and never stopped, none of her other colleagues came to help her but she did an amazing job. The problem was the rude obnoxious barman who was working in the upstairs bar. When it was my turn I ordered a vodka and coke in English and this person acted as if he couldn't understand me when I repeated myself, the overworked waitress took my order and told him what I wanted. This obnoxious man ( if he's reading this and doesn't understand what obnoxious means Google it!) turned and said to the waitress I can't understand a f@@@king word she's saying, which my reply was but I can understand you. He took a bit of offence at this because he thought he couldn't be heard. I basically ignored him and carried on my order with the waitress who gave it to the obnoxious barman. When I paid in cash for my drinks he then proceeded to count out the change very slowly probably hoping for a tip ha no chance after that. So if the management do actually read these reviews this person was white, short, dark hair , dressed untidy with a waist coat. I think if I'd have been a man or one of the pretty little girls he was flirting with he wouldn't have been a nasty little man. I told my friend what had happened and she was disgusted. When the waitress came upstairs to collect glasses I thanked her for helping with my order to which she apologised and said there was no need for that. Again if the manager is reading this, you get a lot of tourists coming through your town and a lot of them come to your bar/ restaurant, but if you have an obnoxious little barman working behind your bar the tourists will read these negative reviews and will stop coming to your bar. I know one thing a bad review like this in England would be investigated and the person would be reprimanded

Great atmosphere and the live band was wonderful. Our server Matthew was super friendly and just all around wonderful. I like when a bartender/server has a bubbly personality and really makes you feel like they are glad you - specifically you - came in. A+ 5 gold stars plus a bonus for our server. (there were 3, Marshall, Randy, and Matthew, all were great but Matthew was our primary and he was awesome) The bathrooms were clean and smelled nice, well lit, lots of mirrors.

I would leave zero stars if possible. Reviewing a visit from 04/14/2019, around 7:30pm (as indiciated on our bill) Let me start with the seating arrangements. The restaurant and bar area was not very busy. We waited an excessive amount of time for the host, Alex finally seats us, a group of 4 adults and one child. We were seated at a hi-top table barely large enough for the adults. Mind you, none of us are very large people. In addition to that, there was a longer table that still had leftover items from a previous set of guests thay had still not been cleaned up. None of us would have minded waiting a few more moments in order to get an easier table to sit at. As soon as the table was cleared off, we inquired with our waitress, Abbi, if we could move to the larger table to seat the five of us more comfortably. She informed us that there was another group of five people at the door and that they were getting seated there. Had they been doing their jobs properly in the first place, and cleaning tables as guests leave in a timely manner, we would have had a more pleasant experience. Our waitress made it feel as though we, the customers we're at fault for wanting more space for five people to sit when there was barely room for three or four. Unacceptable. She made it sound like just because our plates might fit on the table that we should be fine. Our waitress, was barely attentive to our table at all. She was not even the one to bring us our food from the kitchen. The appalling behaviour of the wait staff, the limited options for mid-size groups of people to sit, the significantly over priced (and under portioned) menu items, are the reasons why neither myself nor everyone in my group will ever return to Henry's again.

Have not had the food, only ever been for music and the bar. But the bar is awesome! Bartenders are very friendly and helpful. The place is designed so well. I highly recommend going for the jazz bands at night. They turn off most the lights and almost all remaining light is candlelight. Felt like I went back in time between the candlelight and decor. One of my favorite bars.

Saturday night on a warm evening in March, and we just wanted a simple burger. Henry's is located in the middle of the busy City Market area, and we could not get a table anywhere with no reservations. But there was room at the bar at Henry's, and the atmosphere was warm and bustling. Some of the bar patrons knew the bartender personally, so we felt better about it not just being a tourist place. The patty melt was delicious and more than I could handle. But the rum and Coke was flat and tasteless. Also, the "local beer" in Charleston comes in a can, be prepared.

March 16th on the rooftop was the best place to be in Charleston at Henrys on the market! The food, the drinks, the atmosphere and the staff were truly exceptional ! Also kudos to the owner and his sidekick Duke...this man gets it...customer service. We had a great ongoing conversation for the 4-5 hours that we were there. Can't wait to go again. Henry's will be the first place I recommend to anyone coming to visit my new hometown !!! Mike Buckner

Stopped by cause we heard a few good reviews about it. Great spot right across the fresh market, live band which was cool and the drinks upstairs were pretty good with our bartender Clark who was great. Definitely will return !

On our trip we went here twice once at lunch time on Friday and once for dinner and drinks on a weekend evening. Both times the service and food were great with 2 totally different experiences. The lunchtime visit was laid back and relaxing while the evening visit was lively with a great band for music and dancing. I would recommend eating at the bar for a more personal experience because the bartenders are easy going, fun and super friendly. We wanted to try the rooftop whiskey bar but we visited outside of its hours so didn't get to try it.

Expensive food. Small servings. The shrimp roll was only like a slice of bread folded in half. The she crab soup was not as amazing as other reviews read. It was just a rich bisque that’s highly overpriced. Everything was tasty but not amazing.

Oh my,have never seen a restaurant like this before? It just kept going and going. It was Hugh! Not to mention the friendly staff and amazing views from the rooftop. Oh yea the food was excellent. Not impressed with the limited menu. Had a salad and then went to a local supermarket to eat since no bread, and a very tiny salad even with the extra chicken strips I ordered.

I don't give good or critical reviews to get something. If things are really unsatisfactory then I'll notify the management, and even if they offer a freebie I'll decline and have done so in those occasions. I comment on quality of food, service, atmosphere, and if necessary cleanliness. So here we go,... Walked in our first night in Charleston and the trip couldn't have started better. Fast, friendly, attentive staff, very good food and an interesting location. I don't think dinner could have been any better,.

Absolutely love Henry's, best martinis around, shrimp and grits is UNBEATABLE! Service, staff, environment, live music, classy but comfy, $120 for two meals and four martinis, but worth every penny!

Favorite place to end my evening in Charleston. From dinner to Henry's for drinks and music is always my go-to on a night out. Can't beat it. Sitting on rooftop while my husband smokes a cigar, overlooking Charleston, with a glass of wine- divine.

This is the cutest bar I've seen in a while! I love how it has 3 floors and multiple environments/are as for guests to socialize in. I haven't been to many bars, but I really like this one. The night I visited, there was live music which was nice touch. Drinks were good and the atmosphere was very welcoming.

Historic restaurant/ bar/ night club with excellent food and drinks and live music. We just came in for lunch but you could definitely tell thus place would be a lot of fun later in the evening. As for our food, it was just simple bar food, but very high quality- crispy fried shrimp with remoulade sauce, shrimp salad sandwich, BLT, chicken sandwich and a blackened chicken pasta. There were nothing but clean plates left. Quick, great service too!!

Henry's was great. The food was delicious and the service was very good. There is a lot of good food on the menu, and they also have some choices for the health concious as well as gluten free. I had Mary's Greek salad and collards! Loved it! My family had the fried fish with fries (delicious-had to get a taste!) and they loved it! We only hated we couldn't stay for the live show! Next time for sure...

We stopped here because we were hangry and couldn't make a decision on where to eat. I had the crab cake sandwich, it was good, lots of crab. Boyfriend had the burger, I guess it was good because it was gone in 5 minutes.
