This will become one of my regular haunts as it is a sophisticated place to tipple. The art nouveau decor is beautiful and the ambiance is sexy and inviting. They had old Motown tunes on which enhance the experience even more. The drinks we had were on point. Service was friendly and prompt.

Came in from Ohio and my wife and I heard of this and thought we should try it. Very cool place. I really like the fact it's in the middle of a neighborhood. Just goes to show that small and quite can go a long way. Too many bars are loud and big. Highly recommend if you need a spot to take a date.

I wanted to love this place- the ambience is FABULOUS. But I have to say, the cocktails are disappointing. They tend to taste a bit watered down. Will probably be back because the prices are good and like I said, the vibes are great, but I wish the cocktails were better.

This was my first time coming here after having eyed it for a few months. I got the Mezcal Old Fashioned which straight-up tasted like water. I never do this, but I had to send the drink back. The bar tender wasn't too friendly about it, but nonetheless made me a new drink without much fuss. The new drink, La Ultima Palabara, was delicious. While enjoying our beverages I was surprised to hear them announce last call at around 11:40. Maybe it is different here than in other cities, but I find it quite odd that a bar would close at 12pm on a weekend (it was a Friday night). All-in-all, this wouldn't be your late-night bar crawl, but it is definitely worth checking out.

I always looked forward to going to this cocktail bar, and on Friday 6/8 I made it a point to drop in. It's very clean, and the decor is fantastic, where it lacks is customer service. There was a small line as it was busy at 9:30-10:00, and as i waited i observed a particular interaction between a bartender and a patron in front of me. A women was trying to purchase a birthday drink for her friend standing by her side, and she was asked for her ID, which is understandable, and she provided it without any attitude. I cant say the same for the bartender, who was very curt in her mannerisms and her language, to the point where several others waiting took notice. It was clear she was just being difficult for the sake of being difficult, as she didn't bother to card her friend, who looked to be the same age as she was. Her tone, attitude and body language turned everyone off waiting in line. For anyone going here, beware of the brunette bartender with the narwhal tattoo, as she clearly does not want to be there. (tattoos have nothing to do with it, as i have many, but i had zero desire to ascertain her name and no other way to describe her). It was truly disappointing to have such a high expectation of this place only to be turned off so quickly by one of the employees. I don't often write reviews, but after reflecting on what i saw, it wasn't right, and I should have addressed it as I saw it. Hindsight is 20-20

There are very few places quite like The Avery around Providence, and it definitely deserves attention. The 1920's cocktail bar vibe is great, and the size is perfect if you are meeting up for a date - not too tiny, but not gigantic. Its the kind of bar that encourages you to order an Old Fashion or a Manhattan...something I don't really do in your average bar. It's a little hard to get to if you aren't familiar with the neighborhood, and there is almost no signage. But that only makes it more of a hidden gem of a spot. It isn't for everyone, but The Avery along with Lili Marlene definitely fill a void in Providence.

The Avery has disappointed me two times with its lackluster cocktails and service. I really did want to like The Avery--I love speakeasies and the vibe really looks cool from all of the pictures you'll see on online. The vibe actually *is* cool and it's situated well in its neighborhood. It's just from there where your whole experience takes a nose dive. If you're going earlier in the evening you can have a conversation, but as the night goes on forget about it. I can't beat around the bush about this--the cocktails are just plain bad. The ginger sidecar tastes like a glass of pure alcohol with no actual ginger. I had higher hopes for the I Love Lassi another time, but that missed the mark too. Your drinks will be served to you with a huge helping of attitude from any bartender of your choice. Fun, right? There are much better places to grab a cocktail in town. Go elsewhere for refreshment.

Very cool, low key yet swanky atmosphere. “Speakeasy” without being lame and pretentious. The drinks seem to be hit or miss, when they hit they are dead on. Music varies, tends to be mellow. A bit hipster but not to the point of being obnoxious.

Some of the best cocktails in Providence! The atmosphere here is so relaxed. Dimly lit (in a great way), beautiful wooden carvings across all the walls, and yes: the nude metal, backlit carvings behind the bar with Providence icons in the background. I hosted my wedding after party here and would do it again I’m a heartbeat. One of the gems in the city!

Fanatastic little bar with a nice atmosphere on the Thursday night that we went, had a mezcal-bases old fashioned which was great. Contains outdoors furniture for when the weather gets nice. A bit dark at times, but the drinks for pretty reasonably priced.

A real modern day speakeasy, not like the others. Real dark, no signage and buried in a neighborhood the Avery is awesome. The inside is a cool atmosphere with really interesting drinks. Bartenders know what they are doing! Great place to hang out if you are waiting for a seat at North across the street.
