I want to preface this review by first saying that my boyfriend and I have been to Circe during restaurant week twice and loved the entire experience. Food, atmosphere, our server, etc. were all perfect. And that is why this review is high. However, this past weekend (Columbus Day weekend - Sunday), I went to a wedding and there was supposed to be an after party at Circe. Now, I wasn't involved in the planning (or possible lack thereof), so I 100% DO NOT blame Circe for the miscommunication that may have taken place. We walked into the restaurant and I gave the name I *thought* was supposed to be on reservations (I assumed there had been some made - I was just a wedding guest). The woman on bar gave me a rather rude look and snippy reply of "No, there is no wedding reception here. We're closing soon." When I explained that it wasn't an actual reception, just an after party she replied rudely again with, "No, no reservation, we're closing in 30 minutes." Obviously I was a little confused because the wedding site had listed Circe as the after party venue, but no big deal. I just didn't appreciate the bartenders attitude. We walked outside for a minute to regroup and see what the plan was. One of the other staff members (a man) came out and apologized for the mix up, which was appreciated. A few more wedding guests arrived and we decided to go in anyway and grab a quick drink while we waited on the bride/wedding party to get back to us about new plans. No one was loud, or overly drunk, or rude to the bartender. Yet, she continued to give us (there were maybe 6 of us) dirty looks and flat out ignored one couple that was with our group when they tried to order a drink. Last call had not been announced, others around us were receiving pleasant service by the same woman giving us attitude. I fully understand the frustration of people coming in towards the end of a night (especially people who were just at a wedding). But I must reiterate that NO ONE was belligerent, loud or even a little visibly drunk. We weren't disruptive and we were polite to the bartender that was rude to us. If this review gets back to the woman behind the bar (and I hope it does) - next time, fake it until your night is actually over. You were still open for business and you made a big deal over doing your job. It 100% effected your tip. Had you been courteous and polite, you may have received the normal 20% minimum we always tip (and likely more, since it *was* at the end of the night). Instead, you were rude and you pissed us off, which resulted in a much lower tip. You were lucky my boyfriend was handling the bill, you would have gotten ONE cent from me. Circe - please remind your staff that their job is over when you close, not when they are tired of working.

Sooooo gooood!!! I had the local haddock, which was healthy but super tasty and my husband got the mussels: the sauce was delicious and the portion was huge. He said “THE best mussels I’ve ever had!” (And he gets mussels ALL the time) Extremely good value, prices are low and quality and service are high. Loved it! We’ll be back!

Stopped by for a quick drink and an appetizer. Sat outside on a lovely Saturday (at 4pm). It was quiet (save for an occasional bus driving by), and the service was great (though there were really no other customers). We had a charcuterie plate and it was quite nice! The meats, cheeses, and most of the pairing chutneys/spreads were very good. The pates were a little odd, and while I liked the pickeled veggies, my wife did not (sort of Indian spices on them).

Ordered the meatloaf and it was great!! The portions was large too. Waiter was awesome and the warm chocolate brownie is probably the best I've had. It melts in your mouth and is just the right kind of sweet.

Menu offered an array of tempting foods without being overwhelming. Vegetarian plates I did not see. Duck Three Ways was a hit and my lobster/crabmeat caramelle features some excellent scallops. The desserts were "killers." Try the berry pudding. Nice list of cocktails and of beers. On a Tuesday evening we were not crushed by a din of noise. Conversation was possible. AND they acknowledged my date's birthday with candles on the desserts. Sweet.

Any place with a mozzarella bar -- how couldn't you like it? We had great mozzarella, tuna tartare and great salads. I wouldn't describe a place with a mozzarella bar as low cal, and underneath my hake was basically fettuccine alfredo with some lobster. My daughter did eat healthier.... Anyway, another hit restaurant in Providence == a little less innovative than say Persimmon, but I'd be glad to return anytime.i'm surprised it's 4 dollar signs on tripadvisor: I'd say $$$ instead.

Spectacular! The waitstaff, Camilla in particular, the menu, the atmosphere... all spectacular. I tried the braised short rib Benedict and it was perfect. Amazing umami flavor on every level. My husband ordered the fettuccine "BLT" (bacon, lobster, tomato). Very savoy and perfectly cooked. They offer $20 unlimited mimosas during brunch. They have different juices to chose from. They bring you a cup if juice and refill your glass with champagne. Be aware if you use all of your juice there is a two dollar charge for more. We will certainly be back to try dinner!

Lobster risotto was delightful and the lobster caramelle was also good. Note that the lobster risotto is called a small plate but it could easily be an entree if you had a salad or cheese beforehand. We had a big group so that probably explains why service was a bit slow, but they were friendly and helpful. Everyone else in our group enjoyed their meals as well. Very trendy and still pretty quiet.

The menu has great options for all types of tastes. We had two vegetarian dishes. Both were great portions sizes and full of flavors.

Service is an A+ for the waitstaff but the hostess was rude, table was 30 minutes behind the reservation, and the attitude from the hostess was outrageous. A table for our party size remained open the entire time we were waiting, and when we asked for the open table the response was “I don’t know” only to be sat at the exact table 30 minutes later. It was open the whole time!

I would highly recommend! I went with 3 others just before going to PPAC. The service was impeccable. We were seated right away. The whole staff was courteous and attentive. The food was incredibly good! I usually have a bad experience with my meal when dining out, but this was amazing! I had the seared scallops - cooked to perfection. The rest of my party all enjoyed their meals as well. Thank you Circe for a wonderful experience!!!!

The decor was awesome and the aroma from the food smelled yummy. I went for drinks, but definitely am eager to go back for dinner. The valet guys were super nice too. Helped my sister try to find her phone! The DJ was lit too. A fun atmosphere for sure.

Exceptional all around. Service was great, food was delicious, fresh and Swift. They were able to get us scooted in and out in under an hour just before attending a show. We had a toddler in tow and were a little concerned about the accommodations (super cool chic place) they were more than kind to ensure that she was comfy! Truffle scrambled eggs and parmesan truffle fries are unreal. Highly recommend!! We will be back.

We stopped in for a quick drink and ended up staying for food at the bar and could not have been happier. The drinks were unique and delicious and the food was out of this world. The wagyu burger was incredible and came with enough fries for 5 people. The staff was friendly. We can't wait to go back! I’m in town on business staying in a hotel downtown. This place was a few steps from my hotel. Perfect place to sit at the bar and have a drink and dinner. Food was fantastic. Wine list is limited but good.

They were super attentive to us. Made sure we were comfortable in our seating arrangement and we got our food right on time. Very romantic for a night out with your significant other.

Came here with my partner for our anniversary, and we were delighted! The food was phenomenal, the drink list is varied, and the staff are awesome. We did hit a snag with the food where we got a Scallop special instead of a Salmon special, but our waiter was quick to correct it and supply us with dessert on the house. It's also worth mentioning they have Valet parking here; don't spend the $15 on the nearby garage like I did. If I had to pick something to complain about it would be that tables seem quite close together, so conversations travel far. All in all, we may have to make this our traditional yearly stop!

Circe is a restaurant that has the food and ambiance to draw you back like a magnet. I can’t count the times we have frequented and have not experienced a time I would even consider so so. We sat upstairs by the corner window (super street view), the table by the chef station, one by the stairs, a few within the main dinning area, but the best is at the bar. The mixologists are not only friendly, but tell them what type of food and hunger status your sitting at and they’ll recommend a dish that is sure to please. Many people know of the treasured hideaway -so get there a bit early to guarantee your seat!

The food was delicious and there were a number of creative menu items in addition to traditional fare. We had the deviled eggs and short ribs appetizers. All very good. They have a good selection of wines and fun cocktails. A nice thing about the restaurant is that they are open for dinner earlier than most. It is very popular - we were able to slip in without reservations at 4:30 but by 6:00 the place was packed. The service was very prompt and the server knowledgeable about the menu items and the specials.

I did not like the mashed potatoes at all it tasted like instant mashed potatoes. For the desert I had a brownie topped with cream which per the server was good, wrong it wasn’t.

Went for dinner here after the Providence/Villanova basketball game. Setting is lovely and architecture is interesting. Our server was excellent and knowledgeable. We started with salads and a prosciutto, fig, burrata, and arugula board. Everyone enjoyed their dish. For entries, bacon wrapped beef tenderloin was outstanding, grilled salmon was excellent and lamb was de lured. Bread with o,ive oil was very good. We all enjoyed this restaurant very much.

Time and time again my friends and I enjoy dining at Circe for special events for it's reliably great food. You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu, and we just recently had the herb grilled oysters with parmesan that were the best oysters I've ever had. They were perfectly tender with a warm yet light garlic, savory flavor. Simply amazing. We haven't dabbled in the dessert menu too much because we mainly focus on the small plates and specials. The one dessert I did have was a tasty blueberry lemon creme brulee that I have yet to experience anything like since. The cocktails are very good, but can sell out at times. The fresh honeycomb with the charcuterie board is refreshing and blends well with the variety of eclectic cheeses and meats to create fun and unique combinations for the adventurous type. I am not particularly a "fry person" as I consider them unnecessary filler most of the time, but the parmesan truffle fries are the favorite for many of the friends and family I take here. Whether it's seafood, steak, or a vegetarian pasta, this is my go to spot in Providence for dates or celebrations. It is highly recommended to make a reservation, but you could get lucky sneaking in later in the evening. I don't like giving perfect scores unless it is deserving, but this place rocks and I would give it a 9.87 out of 10. A five star review is absolutely justified.

Service review: Made a reservation for 10pm for my friend's 18th birthday, four girls. Very nice looking restaurant, upscale. We went without looking at the menu. We got there and realized it was out of our budget range, so we decided to order a burger and split it, we also ordered some side vegetables and French fries. Everything, from the crusty bread with the decadent soft dough filling, to the beats intermixed with Gouda, to the perfectly grilled Salmon on top of the lobster (and oh my buttery) mashed potatoes, was to-die-for. Best meal I can even remember. It takes a very talented kitchen to make food that blends flavors and textures so well, and they absolutely have this skill. The service was top-notch, and the ambiance of the restaurant was perfect for a Saturday night dinner one is unlikely to ever forget. Nicely done, Circe.

Went for a work function. Server was extremely attentive, and pleasant. My wife, and I both got the meatloaf. It's a little untraditional, so be mindful. The bone demi-glace is potent, creating another layer with the surrounding truffle infused potatoes, and prosciutto wrapped asparagus. That demi-glace is something I found to compliment the entire dish, yet my wife found it clashing with the meatloaf too much. Worth checking out for yourself.

The only thing good about this place is the taste of the food. While that may not seem like such a bad thing, which it certainly isn’t, service was appalling. Simple starters took over 30 minutes to reach us, even at less than half occupancy. Our waiter was less than joyful to be serving us, maybe he was having a bad day, not sure. Ordered the lamb medallions, listed price $16, on the bill came to $22 (not including tax). Was told the menus had “not been updated yet to reflect current prices”. Ridiculous, unacceptable, and perhaps even illegal to misrepresent prices like that. No apology was given for the discrepancy. Highly unethical marketing on their part.

Disappointed in the quality of food. The gnocchi were VERY tough and overcooked. They were chewy and without any seasoning. Gnocchi should be light and pillowy. The oysters as an appetizer were decent. Would probably not order dinner were we to return. Stick to small plates and the oysters.

Having been to Circe about 4-5 times (with 6-14 months separating the visits), each time, I wonder what it was that kept me away. There's never an overwhelming issue (though this time would break that record), it's just not... good. After a mid-day meeting, we wandered in for lunch. The menu has a variety of obviously-nothing-to-do-with-Italy-if-thats-what-you-were-going-for fare, but we were hungry enough not to care. How about... we split a burger and a "Caesar-y" salad? Now, I should clarify, Iove rare meat. Ialso love carpaccio. But my girlfriend warned me - if you order "medium" in a burger, you'd be hard-pressed to tell it was cooked. And, by "cooked" I mean that when it arrives, it is both cold AND nowhere near any traditional definition of what medium should look like. Even sous-vide ground meat has myoglibin congealing into a mass. This didn't have that. The rest of the burger was great but the fries suffered from that "single-fry" syndrome; limp and oiled. Then, there's the salad. If you enjoy croutons that have been swimming in olive (and this is largely a guess) oil for a month AND you love the taste of... I'm guessing red wine vinegar(?) in your "Ceasar" salad (the menu, wisely, doesn't use this term, but our server did), then this is the place for you. All of your lettuce lucky enough to sit on the bottom of the bowl will be pickled when you bite into it. The notion of emulsifiers isn't in play here (at least, not at lunch time). The occasional (and quite possible SINGLE) white anchovy in the dish will be a weldome respite from the vinegar. Our server was... well... a lunchtime server. Friendly enough, helpful enough... but upon seeing that we'd surrendered to raw beef and pickled lettuce, asked if she could "clear those dirty plates" for us. If there was anything "dirty", it was the budding-culinary-student-grade food that had been so mercifully eaten by two people WAY too hungry to send most of it back and leave. Again, this is not my first time at the restaurant and, while nothing (in memory) warns me to stay away, nothing reminds me to go back. I don't think I will.

My mom just attended a baby shower at this restaurant and LOVED it!!!! She said the waitstaff was wonderful and the salmon was the best she ever had!!! She even brought me home some take-out. It looks delicious and I can't wait to eat it:)

Worst place ever. Arrogant host and waiter with a horrible attitude. The food is good hats to the chef but as a customer I was terribly offended. First I was wearing a hat and they asked me to TAKE IT OFF seriously. After came the waiter horrible attitude with a lot of sarcasm that offended me and my friends. Guys seriously pinch it down you are good but replacable I have been to much better places that treats customers like they should to be treated.

Had an excellent experience here yesterday. There was awful weather between rain ice and snow to the point the original restaurant I had plans to go to was closed along with many others throughout the city. Despite the poor weather the restaurant was staffed appropriately. Our server was great. Not too pushy but the proper amount of attention and knowledgeable about the menu. My dish was actually what I wanted, Short Rib over Risotto that was honestly cooked and executed perfectly. Not over or under done even the slightest. Great flavors but nothing overwhelming. The fact that I could still get a great $5 draft beer at an upscale joint also sits well with me. A bit pricey but a great experience. Worth checking out.

Went for restaurant week on a Weds night and was absolutley delicious. Had grilled oysters and short ribs with asparagus and mushroom risotto. Panty snatcher for a drink- vodka, rose water, orchid. Very good. Service was attentive and faster than expected. They have valet parking which was great. Only thing is it's right in front of restaurant and a small street, so a little awkward to have cars waiting behind you, but the valet service was quick. Definitely must try!

Can't recommend this place enough. Came for a friend's bachelorette. From the delicious cocktails, to the fresh and creative food and the great service, we loved Circe! The seafood was so fresh (Littlenecks and oysters yum!) and the truffle fries were the best I've had (and I'm a big truffle fan). Great spot in Providence!

I loved our visit to Circe! The waiter made great suggestions for our cocktails and meal and we loved every bite! The service was awesome, our waiter was a really nice guy. My boyfriend’s steak was very over cooked and the waiter made a point of telling the chef and taking care of it. And I definitely recommend the dessert if you have room, we loved both of the things we tried!

Each year my husband and I try a new restaurant before heading to the Christmas Carol at Trinity. This year we chose Circe, as I had read great things about it. We split a beet salad prior to our main meals. As the waitress came to check on us, we all looked down at my salad plate and noticed a decent sized bug, legs up, in my salad. The waitress took it away immediately and about 10 minutes later the manager came to apologize... or so we thought. His words were "Well I have to come by because there was a bug in your salad but let's be honest, these things happen." Really? These things happen? At a restaurant where we are paying $55 for a steak? He finished with "Obviously I won't make you pay for it, and at least you know the lettuce is fresh if there was a bug in it." Um... yeah... How about "I'm so sorry there was a bug in you food." Maybe a free drink? Maybe a free dessert? Something??? We were a bit upset at the way it was handled. The waitress was very nice about it though (Angie). If we didn't have a show to catch and weren't in a time crunch we would have left and gone elsewhere. We definitely won't be back. The food was only ok for the price. I had the short rib and my husband had the ribeye. We've definitely had better elsewhere for much less money. The only upside to the place was that we were able to leave our car with the valet and take an Uber to the show so we didn't have to worry about parking at the theater. Oh, wait, that's right, my car got hit while in the possession of the valet. So I guess overall it wasn't worth it.

With the great reviews Circe has it was very high on my bucket list. We tried it this weekend and I was a little disappointed. The wait staff was excellent and the food was good however not as good as I thought it would be and did not seem to quite justify the higher price point. We were very turned off by the fact that it seemed to turn into a nightclub around 10pm. The music became very loud and the table of 4 behind us was VERY loud and doing tequila shots; not really the vibe we were looking for for a holiday dinner. It seemed like Circe quite doesn't know what type of place it wants to be. I think I will definitely give them a second shot but for now, for dinner, they get a 3 star from me.

Terrible experience at Circe. Came here for a few drinks with my buddies late on Saturday night. Had the bartender throw a straw in my face simply because he thought I ordered 1 drink instead of 2. I wasn’t even rude about telling him I ordered 2 drinks and he continued to insist I only ordered 1 drink before throwing a straw in my face. Completely disrespectful and unprofessional behavior. When I confronted him about it he accused me of being sensitive before apologizing. Didn’t accept his apology and his response actually made me even more mad because he doesn’t understand at all that he should never treat a customer like that. I would have actually been fine if he just bantered with me and busted my balls, but throwing something at me is crossing the line. He clearly fails to understand this. I will never spend another penny in this place. I see the owner responds to people here I hope he responds to this review and addresses the situation! I don’t even want an apology just train your bartender on how to act professionally and not like a douche bag. He’s clearly done stuff like this before or he would not have been so blatant about doing it.

I decided to visit Circe toward the end of the night, when the restaurant is transformed into a bar. The bartenders were on top of their game. The patrons were friendly and respectful. The DJ was excellent. Very fun place.
