one my favorite place where i often visits to have some delicious food. The place was superb with cozy atmosphere. There's also one thing i like about them was they communication with the people who come. The infrastructure was beautiful and the dinning was also good. This place deserves 5 star!!
My favorite sushi restaurant in philly
Rice on the dish 'duck duck duck' is too salty for me and the duck was little too chewy and cooked uneven. I wonder why there're partitions when you can still see the faces next to you.
Worth every penny !!!!!! Loved the atmosphere and the staff was great they were super helpful in helping me with my selections I am new to sushi ..what a fabulous place I will defiantly go back many times
Hottest Japanese place to dine in Philly. Chef's menu is phenomenal.
Great meal. Go for the Sushi and sashimi dinners. Then the Waygu for the win.
The food was wonderful. We enjoyed the tofu made at the table.
The iron chef does not disappoint. Perfect execution on each dish and the beverage and sake pairings are spot on.
An foodie experience I won't soon forget. The black cod was delicious.
Hard to get me to go to such a fancy place, but definitely worth it. Great for a special occasion, because you'll feel like a million bucks.
Exquisite. Really should be tried once by anyone who enjoys Japanese food. You MUST do the omakase.
The interior is beautiful if a little noisy, and the food is amazing. Definitely recommend the omakase with the sashimi upgrade. Everything was delicious and the portions were filling. Each course was perfectly timed as well, and the service was courteous and efficient without feeling like they were hovering around us.
Yummy food. First time I went here I got the omakase with my mother. The staff was friendly and explained each dish to us clearly, it was very delicious and filling, too, with a variety of preparation styles and flavors. They were also very conscious of our pacing with the meal and brought courses out in a timely fashion without rushing us, which I enjoyed. I also went there with my boyfriend for ramen, which was also very tasty and a quick meal
Did the tasting menu, half raw and half cooked. Accompanied with great beverages
We did the Omakase on the first visit and it was five star. The second time we ordered a la carte and it was four. This time was off the menu again. The cod was overdone and the sashimi was average. The only wow dish was the pork belly. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that they put the most effort and best quality into the Omakase menu. Otherwise, the service was good and the ambiance... Well, you kind of feel like you walked into the set of "A Clockwork Orange". Very cool and modern space. Bring your bowler hat and mascara.
I guess if you are going to spend an exorbitant amount of money on dinner. This is my first choice because it's also great!
The meal was fantastic and did not disappoint. Vibe of a Starr restaurant with exceptional service. Dessert not our favorite but you're not there for that!!
Nice place for romantic dinner. Food was excellent and delicious One problem is they don't have a sign with their name on it making it difficult to identify.
A true Asian dining experience established by one if the world renowned Sushi Chefs. Very pricey but worth the experience.
Amazing experience, staff and food. They made my daughter feel so special for her 16th birthday. Thank you so much.
Delicious food and great experience. For those on a tighter budget, lunch has more affordable meals with lenty of great and equally delicious items!
Beautiful unusual design and tasty food make this restorant perfect place for unforgettable dating.
Give Joe a round of applause. Phenomenal server
Exellent service. Amazing foods. If you like Japanese restaurant you should to visit it.
With this being my first visit to Morimoto's I didn't know what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised. I ordered the Omakase with both upgrades and each course was absolutely fantastic. From the toro tartare to the a5 wagyu and finally the panna cotta every dish was mind-blowing. The server was extremely helpful in suggesting and explaining dishes while greatly contributing to the experience. I definitely look forward to coming back sometime in the future.
Amazing food and phenomenal service. Everything we’ve tried here has been out of this world good. We had a small issue with one of our meals but they immediately fixed it and were genuinely apologetic.
Quality, quality, quality! Wait staff is very professional and knowledgeable about their menus. The food was very good, and very fresh, especially the sushi. Sushi prices are more than reasonable for how fresh the fish is. There is an enormous drink menu, and I was very happy with the Saki cocktail I ordered. The salmon entree had a very off-putting aroma, and was average at best, perhaps even a bit below. Regardless, a very good experience with a very cool aesthetic from the moment you walk in. Valet parking is offered as well, which is a solid plus.
Amazing. We had the tasting menu, and they were able to change out some options to accommodate a shellfish allergy.
Great service and amazing food!
over priced sushi restaurant. It's not upscale at all. Inside architecture is cheap looking. Cheesy neon lights all over makes it looks like very cheap. Ceiling is curved and they tried to do something with it, however the design of the ceiling makes it too loud inside. Sound bounced off the ceiling and create an echo. People are screaming to each other just to have a conversation. Price is too high as well. 12 oz bottle of sake is $55.00. way over priced. Do yourself a favor, try a different Japanese restaurant, if you must have Japanese food. Don't take your date there unless you guys want to have a screaming game.
Fantastic food and equally amazing service
It was really great. Trendy atmosphere. Fun and original food. Nice staff.
Our experience with Morimoto was a mixed one. I loved it my wife did not like the soup and so on. The ambiance was awesome and the customer service was great. Entrees were cooked to perfection and tasted great. We had the chillean sea bass Ala cart Sushi and Seafood ‘Toban Yaki and in appetizers we had the Edamame and Dobin Mushi ‘Steamed Soup in a Pot. The soup was not what we expected, more like a broth than a soup. Every thing was coated with sesame seeds and soy sauce so be prepared for those tastes. All in it was a good experience.
I gave 5 stars for the ambiance. Not many options if you are vegetarian. I got the vegetable ramen which was very good except a bit too salty. The rest of my party said the sushi was the best they ever had and they had just come back from Japan. The ice cream was delicious. Service was professional.
Love this creative and modern environment for Asian fusion .... Food is incredible and drinks are equally amazing. The ambience is modern and club like.
sat at the sushi bar and had a great time. great service and excellent sushi
Very authentic and phenomenal fish! Best sushi I have ever had! EAT HERE!!! GREAT SERVICE!!!
One of the top 5 meals of my life. Amazing decor. Knowledgeable staff and they were incredibly prompt without the feeling of lingering. Can't wait to go again
Loved this place. The sashimi was excellent, I loved the sake flight and the dessert was also delicious. In addition there is a lovely ambience, candle shaped lights on the tables, and comfortable booth style seating for parties over 2.
Just set down gonna be good. And it was the best meal.
Excellent restaurant in every way. Great location, amazing ambiance. The upstairs bar is a bit small but it is usually not very busy...only people who are waiting for their table. I highly recommend then omakase.
Hostess service was poor. Made a reservation nearly a month in advance and was still waiting 30 minutes to get a seat. They didn't even realize we were waiting despite asking us to wait at the seating area. We did get a free appetizer due to the wait and some of the food was top notch such as the wagyu beef, nigiri sushi and dessert. Everything else was comparable to any cheap decent sushi establishment. In conclusion, for this price range I expected more than this sub par quality.
Great place. The atmosphere is amazing and the service is excellent!
I initially went to Morimoto when it first opened and the iron chef himself was in residence. I haven't been back for ten years. The place still retains it's magic. And the sushi is truly outstanding. I recommend it for first timers and if you haven't been for awhile you should return for another great meal.
Delicious food and excellent service. It never gets boring.
After leaving Morimoto I felt like I went on a food adventure through Japan. What an incredible opportunity to taste authentic Japanese food prepared by some of the world's best sushi chefs! I will be back for sure ...when I've got a bit more money again!
Did the chef tasting which was really good. I'll have to admit I enjoyed the raw fish the most, but that's what I went for. The steak, the Australian stuff I can't remember the name of right now was great also. The wife got the beef upgrade and said it was the best thing she's ever had; didn't flinch even though I was sitting across from her. I recommend it if you have the dollars to spare.
Chef’s choice sashimi of fish sourced from Japan was awesome!
I am not a big fan of Starr which is lot of hype but poor food. However I have to admit that the sushi were extremely good. They had a few Japanese import too and they were delicious. Shuts are fresh, soft, and smooth. Pricey but definitely worth it. Going with the hype, the music was too loud and it doesn’t convey for a good convo. So go for the food not conversation.
A fun and modern restaurant with world-class sushi. You can see and taste the difference from other sushi you may have tried. Thank you, Iron Chef Morimoto!
Very flavorful and Succulent. It did not disappoint.I felt like I was back in Japan having Sushi.
We had the tasting menu and it was a lifetime experience. Just totally amazing. There is a reason he is an iron chef.
Excellent spot for dinner. Highly recommend!
I had a chance to go to The original Morimoto in Philly. It was a sublime dinner at a very upscale and relaxed atmosphere. My friend had the shabu-shabu and I had several specialty sushi rolls and small plates. Everything was superb, very tasty and exquisitely crafted; all the sushi was amazingly fresh. Service was impeccable. I even tried some of the special Japanese beers and they were very delicious. It is a place that should be on everybody's bucket list; somewhat pricey, but worth every penny
One of the greatest sushi places that I've had the pleasure to eat at. Had some of the finest chefs, great atmosphere and extremely clean. I eat a lot of sushi and this by far the best I've ever had.
Some of the best sushi I've had and the decor/ambiance is top notch.
Incredible 5 star, gourmet fine dining. Worth indulging and splurging for the good stuff.
This place was really nice and low-key. My meal was really delicious. The place is clean and pretty. It's small but comfortable. I would eat here again. The waiter we has so nice and seer we were the last people in the place until 13 and they were having fun with us. I would recommend this place ETA I recently ate here 7/21 and my food was absolutely phenomenal......
I went to Morimoto for the first time. I had the omukazi dinner it was fantastic. I upgraded to the Sashimi plate and that was excellent. Next time I'm back in town I'll definitely go back. My happy place.
Great service. Server knew the menu back to front and of course great tasting food.
I visited Philadelphia alone on a business trip this week. Out of all the great food in this city I decided to eat at Morimoto. Before going I looked up the menu and read reviews; all were boasting positive things. My plan was to enjoy their happy hour specials followed by dinner. When I arrived I was greeted and, upon request, seated at the sushi bar. There were about 6 other people dining in the restaurant. I requested the happy hour menu in addition to the dinner menu. The server instructed me that the happy hour specials were only served in the bar upstairs and this is when it all went down hill… I was escorted to a dark room upstairs. When I mean dark I don’t mean romantic lighting, I mean dark like I’m sitting in a bat cave. It may be worth mentioning that I am in my early 30’s, go out regularly, and have fantastic eyesight. I was the only person in this dark room. The waitress (who I could barely see standing 2 feet in front of me) handed me the happy hour and dinner menus. I expressed to the waitress that I would have preferred to sit downstairs than in a dark room alone. She told me that happy hour is only served upstairs as it can get very busy downstairs and walked away. I ate a quick mediocre appetizer, drank 1 drink, and sadly left to find dinner elsewhere. As I walked out I noticed that there were still only about 6 patrons in the restaurant and tons of empty seats. I just think that this situation could have been taken care of differently. It was clear to me that the staff does not care about the customers’ comfort. I am extremely disappointed in Morimoto and will not be returning nor will recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Good place for lunch.
Morimoto never disappoints, even on a Tuesday at 5pm ❤
Amazing Omakase and sake pairing. Knowledgeable and courteous staff. Worth trying at least once.
Sit at the sushi bar, go with the sushi/ sashimi chef combo, have some Otter fest saki, couple of beers, enjoy the view. Awesome! Service is outstanding.
Across the board things are REALLY expensive at Morimoto. Stay away from their mediocre sushi and go for the cooked options. The unadon melts in your mouth and is worth the splurge. Surprisingly the desserts, in particular the ice cream, are really good. Go at lunch to get the most bang for your buck (or go when somebody else is treating :P ) Basically, a few items are 5 * items but overall most things hover around 3.
This is in my top Five eateries ever.
Among the best food I have ever eaten. Wagyu is extremely flavorful. Anything I tasted literally put a smile on my face. Additionally, Morimoto Philadelphia has one of the coolest restaurant interiors I have ever seen. Overall amazing expirience!
Everything was super professional from beginning to end, and the staff were super courteous in taking care of us too. We had a reservation but tables were not clearing up for another 45-50 minutes which was kind of disappointing, but it was made up for by the service. And the staff: extremely professional, and super courteous. This restaurant is a .
This place is incredible. Omakase it up!
Hands down the best dining experience I’ve ever had. The most I’ve ever spent in a restaurant and WORTH EVERY PENNY!!! Words are not enough. My husband teared up during the meal it was so good.
Morimoto made our anniversary a bit more special by serving us a special desert apart from the normal desert offered at their omakase. Thank you for the care in all that you serve, and spectacular service.
No need for words. If you want high quality sushi sashimi theres not too many choices. Morimoto is my first choice
Great tasting menu, wonderful blend of flavors.. Not just sushi. Attentive and efficient staff.
Let's me try to be as clear and concise as possible. You should come here for your special occasions. This is one of the best meals I've ever had in my life. Just order the Omikase. Be prepared to pay a bunch but also enjoy it just as much. The atmosphere inside is fun and floaty with lots of wood. It's very open and beautiful inside. All of the food was incredible. There was not a single dish that I thought was "just ok". I cannot tell you enough to go.
Great ambiance! Sexy swanky LA vibes for sure. Fresh menu and cocktail selections are A1! Perfect for date night.
Love their melting dessert. But hours are little tricky. And they need some bigger sign for outside.
Delicious high end restaurant specializing in modern Japanese cuisine. We did the chef’s tasting menu which offered a bit of everything and we felt was worth it for our first time. The sushi and sashimi was out of this world and we would probably definitely make a meal out of that when we go back. The interior is very swanky and modern. Service was impeccable and food comes out right when it is ready. The cocktails are masterfully created and interesting.
Easily some of the best Japanese food I've had. Every dish of the omakase was delicious, and they have a nice selection of sake as well. I'll definitely come back next time I'm in Philly!
5 or 6 years ago I had the best meal of my life. Last night, it was over taken by Morimoto. Absolutely astonishing food. Superior style.
I was amazed with the experience i had. The place was nice and the way they treat their customer. The food was super delicious and the presentation was also too good. Overall recommended place
Would definitely recommend eating here if you're in Philadelphia. Unique environment, fantastic sushi. The omakase is fantastic and certainly worth the price.
The food was marvelous. We decided to sit upstairs in the bar area and it was a better choice for us. The bartender (Alexandra) was extremely friendly, nice and helpful. I would recommend this place for a small private event. The upstairs is very intimate. Did I mentioned that the food was amazing...
I had the unfortunate experience of dining here back in 2006. If you enjoy real sushi, don’t come here. The micro piece of sushi drowning in rice and spicy mayo, left my palette confused as to wether I had actually come to a sushi restaurant or yet another fusion confusion restaurant. The sushi stuck to the roof of my mouth, my chopsticks saturated with spicy mayo and i almost would have rather going to an all you can eat sushi restaurant bc honestly the prices are just much better. Morimoto may have won in iron chef but he lost in this dojo.
This is THE BEST restaurant in Philadelphia, PA. It is also the original Morimoto when the Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto started the chain in the United States. Every dish is always prepared with thoughts and creativity. Drinks, service and atmosphere are always good.
We had some sushi and cocktails at the lounge upstairs. Tried few different cocktails and all were very good. The food is excellent and staff is very knowledgeable. The architecture is really unique inside. Lighting and colors slowly change throughout the dinner— supposed to make you feel as if you were in the ocean. Quite a journey... knowledgeable and engaged service staff. Savorous food. I chose two courses both prepared at the table (Tofu and rice/wagu beef meal). Will definitely recommend
OK, so it's what you would expect from an esteemed Iron Chef. The food is sublime, and I like to order the tasting menu as it provides a tour of the creativity these wizards possess. Atmosphere is great, and the service is on point. If you like Japanese cuisine then treat yourself.
Entered near nine, it wasn't busy. Definitely worth going back to. This place has a nice feel to it. Kinda of like a cafe in Phoenix that I enjoyed.
An amazing place to enjoy your day. I used to come at this place. Last time was here on my weekend, me and my friends had lot of fun. Moreover, after that we had very delicious food. I would like to recommend you too.
The food was delicious and the service impeccable.
One of the best meal of my life. And I've eaten at alot of the nicer restaurants.
Delicious food, attentive service and great wine list
Amazing food, service and the place is beautiful
Excellent. Top Notch food and a nice ambiance. Every dish is very well done and the staff is very professional and down to earth. Expect a stylish but not snobbish night when you go here.
Wonderful and unique experience! Would definitely go again.
Fabulous and unique restaurant in Center City Philly. The menu is full of creative riffs on Aisian fusion dishes, with well-composed flavor profiles. The multiple servers were all very attentive and knowledgeable. And the interior design was both interesting and soothing at the same time, with organically flowing walls and ceiling and subtly color changing back lighting. The only negative... which the staff will acknowledge... are the phallic light fixtures permanently attached to the center of the small tables. They make it difficult for the servers to place multiple dishes and get in the way if sharing.
Morimoto is a very nice place with an awesome environment. The service Is incredible and the staff is really friendly. The food is very good for the most part. The reason I'm giving 4 stars and not 5 is because the meal sizes are extremely small for what you are getting. So we had to order a decent amount to be full after the meal but it's not cheap it adds up really fast. But overall it's a great experience. Recommended
The 8 or so course meal (Omakase) that we ordered was fantastic. You can't expect to like every bit of a chef's choice meal like that, but we liked about 6 or 7 out of 8, and the one's we didn't explicitly like we agreed were "interesting," definitely not bad, just something that maybe we weren't prepared for. Check it out, you won't regret it. Our waiter was amazing and I wish we could have him for every meal in every restaurant. Major props to him for being professional and subtly casual. You can't teach that.
Food was good but WAY overpriced for what you got. I understand fine dining, but this really wasn’t it. 30 Dollars for 2 sushi rolls like I get at a chain place...I’ll pass next time.
Always good highly recommend.
Love dining here when in the area. Highly recommend for a fancy night out.
I've been to this place for so many times. I absolutely love this place. Such good food, such good drinks. Probably the best place to hangout. I usually go here with my friends for some dine-outs and parties. The happy vibe of this place makes it a really good experience.
I had never tried sushi before and was extremely nervous. The server was great. He explained everything to me and recommended some sushi that would be good to try for a "first-timer" like myself. This place is awesome. I will definitely go back.
i was here eating a duck the day after 7/4 2019, that is 7/5 of the year 2019 i think. roughly 6 or 7 weeks later, i came back here and sat on the same chair at the bar, i had a definitive feeling that night, as i was chewing the chicken, image of a heavenly divine woman. it suddenly occurred to me, at that moment, a part of my life is over with. "c'est fini", was the voice of a woman in a godard film, kept ringing in my head.
The chef's tasting menu offers a surprising variety of both cold and hot dishes. The ambience was definitely on point, but we found the sushi was profoundly disappointing.
Went here for an anniversary dinner on the recommendation from a friend.I was glad I visited. It was a great experience with excellent food and great view. Be prepared to spend quite a bit but the food and service is a good value. The food was excellent and the service very professional Highly recommended.
Went for mothers day and the food was great! The staff knew what ingredients were used in the meal and even suggested appropriate wines for us to try with each thing
Absolutely amazing. My partner and I both had the Omasake menu and were blown away by the quality of the food. The waiter was very helpful in explaining items on the menu, as well as the differences in the sake selection as we were trying it for the first time. The entire staff was quick to refill water glasses and remove finished plates, and all were very courteous. (I had reserved the table and the entire staff wished my partner and I a happy anniversary when they interacted with us) The atmosphere is unique, eclectic even, and although the music was somewhat loud early on (we were there at 5pm), as business picked up it was no longer noticeable. We will most certainly be returning here again to try more of the menu.
