We came here to dance on my fianceés birthday. The male bartender seemed to be the only one that wanted to work until it got packed and the two females had no choice but to work and get off of their phones. The djs here are pretty good compared to the competition next door.

If you go there on Thursday's The DJ on the bottom floor is utter trash one of the worst Dj's I've ever heard; however the dj's on the upper floor, I believe they went by Julez-P and THRiLL, are absolutely sick. If you go to Mad river search for Julez-P and THRiLL cause I promise you a great time!!

Was here for a class reunion. Staff closed the open bar an hour early without announcing it and barred a classmate from entering despite his having bought a ticket because of his boots, which were decidedly fashionable and not work boots. The dress code is arbitrary and selectively enforced at the discretion of power tripping bouncers. I would not go back.

Gave it 5 stars because they didnt do anything wrong. Bouncers were fine. I am 43 and was there to celebrate my 22 year old cousins birthday. No issues letting me in. It is a club with loud music. Looking for a quiet evening with a date, not the place. Looking to dance to loud music, good place to go.

There's a reason why they have less than a 2.4 average rating. The bar is whack, music is whack, and the service across all level is whack. My friend was rejected from entering because he was literally wearing Timberland boots.... boots. Don't waste your time or money on this bar with power-hungery uneducated bouncers.... Morons.

Great spot for a Saturday night..diverse crowd which I like.. there's only like 2 bartenders that are nice the rest are a little mean like they hate their job dky..and the DJs are like a 5 out of 10 only been twice tho... I'd recommend it for a weekend out with friends

! Was there for a bachelorette party and had a blast with the people I was with but, it was So overly crowded and they actually removed all chairs and barstools to fit More people at 10 pm! Floors were very wet from everyone banging into each other and spilling drinks.

This place had no vodka. Huh?!! Ok fine! The music was popular and current but wasn't lined up well or seamless, some songs weren't played long enough in order to be enjoyed. There were a couple crazy-creeps walking around the dance crowds looking like they wanted to fight. Not exciting.

Not my favorite place on Main Street in Manayunk. Unless you enjoy careless bartenders who aren't aware of the specials at their bar and loud college students drunkenly stumbling all over each other, avoid this place. We went for a trivia night. The menu clearly offered $3 Coors Lights. Still, when I cashed out, I was charged full price for my drinks. It wasn't until I showed the menu to the bartender and she checked with another bartender that they corrected my order.

Want to hook up with a bunch of sloppy 21-ish college kids? This is the place for you! Crowded bars, plenty of space for people to get their grind on (and they do). I've never had the food, nor do I want to--plus, seating is at a minimum to allow more standing room. Bouncers are aggressive and check everyone's IDs, but not very thoroughly. Note that I am being generous with the age bracket... I suspect that many people aren't quite old enough to get in.

For a Thursday night, (no cover) got there 11:45 not too bad. Bartenders were good, space was clean including the bathroom. And the DJ Joe Broscoe kept the dance floor going. Wasn't overcrowded nice male to female ratio.

Normally very crowded on Thursdays nights. Went tonight and asked bouncers how it was inside and one bouncer in particular said it was "chillen" and in fact it was quite the opposite. I have never seen the place so dead. There were probably more people at my local dive bar. Staff is disinguine and untrustworthy. Highly disappointed.

This place only has good music and maybe 1 or 2 nice bartenders, depending on the night you go. I've never had their food, but the drinks are ok and the staff is the worst. Other than the couple of nice bartenders, they are rude and disrespectful. Just as an example, the last time I went, a friend and I escorted another friend who had a little too much to drink and waited with him to get an uber, it was pouring outside and I just wanted to go back in and get my jacket from coat check. The bouncers refused to let me in even though I had a coat check ticket in my hands, they just took my ticket and then returned with my friends jacket but not mine, after some arguing and demands to go in to get my jacket, the uber came and I decided to leave, when I took a look on the floor, I saw my jacket had been tossed and was soaked and dirty. Worst service ever!!!

Mad River is a great time with great people for $5 entry on Fridays. Awesome crowd and the bartenders are great. The drinks are quite highly priced and not strong. That's the only thing to think about. other than this, this place is top notch

Once you turn 21, there is no reason to go to Mad River. It's dirty and packed with under agers. They do host some benefit events which keeps them respectable on occasion. They have ok specials, but usually also have a cover.

Man, this place is filled with douchebags. In the bathroom some drunk Asian guy was really riling people up in the bathroom. Accusing people of cutting him in line for the urinal lol. Many of phillys finest convicts come here. The bartenders are lazy, inattentive airheads. This bar was on phillys bad decision list. The worst decision was me coming here.

I use to frequent this place often, but now I feel that I've grown out of Mad River. Great times if you're into the college scene, otherwise it can be a bit much. They throw great parties and usually have a good band in the main room. The back room can get overly crowded with rowdy first-time drinkers. Beware!

Mad River is a great place to take somebody new to the area. The menu has a wide range of options and you can sit outside. Sometimes the service can be a bit slow during busy times but the food is always great, especially for the price. The chicken sandwich (Pictured) is always a great choice, as is the burger.

Terrible Staff. I went to this bar last night because my sister was in town and we wanted to try somewhere new. The bartender was very rude. As I waited for my drink to be prepared, I talked with my friends that came along. The bar was loud, I could not here the bartender and rather than coming over to grab my card he began throwing paper at straws at me to get my attention. He joked with the security guards and they all found it very funny (laughing at me) as he continued to do it if front of everyone. My sister called him out for being very rude and unprofessional. His response was to have security escort us out. I have never received such terrible customer service when going out. I cannot believe that we were treated so poorly and this will be my last time coming (not including my visit to speak with management). This place should really train their employees to be more courteous to those who are SPENDING THEIR MONEY to buy drinks at this bars. I expected decent service and did not even receive the bare minimum for my money spent (to get in, to buy drinks, and tip). DO BETTER!!!

It was fun and a typical college bar with good DJ’s and music but the drinks were expensive for such a tiny cup....and they were extremely weak. Couldn’t even taste the alcohol in them. Seemed like a waste of money. If you come here just get trashed beforehand and don’t buy anything bc it’s not worth it

Mad River is where you go when you want a guaranteed wild weekend night. That being said, whoever runs mad Mad River doesn't really care about how it looks after an event, because they know it's only going to get torn apart again with the next batch of drunk college kids who wander in there looking for a good time. Had the misfortune to walk in there after they had some sort of afternoon event and their bathrooms were ridiculously TRASHED. Dirty water and toilet paper all over the floors, which of course meant that none of the stalls had toilet paper you could actually use

If your yuppie a$$ just got paid this Friday and doesn't mind blowing $50 on weak mixed drinks and light beer, then this is the place for you. If you have given up on your music taste in 2013 and you don't mind listening to Party Rock Anthem all night, then this is the place for you. If your personality is shallower than a day-old puddle and you don't mind sharing the dance floor with other people who don't have much going on besides work (or school) and drinking, this is the place for you. However, if you DO mind, then stay out of this place! Mad River is what happens when purgatory opens a bar. Mad River lures you in with what appear to be attractive people having fun, but as soon as you pay the cover charge, your excitement turns to ashes as you realize that you have sentenced yourself to $5 bud lights and the company of lame corporate zombies.

A good college bar in the area. Covers are usually super cheap or free most night. Don’t go and expect something fancy because this ain’t it. But on weekend this is a great place to dance. Wing night is pretty bomb too

I've been coming here awhile. I love Madriver... Music is usually great Friday and Saturday nights, the bouncers are cool once you get to know them and the bartenders are also friendly if you get to know them. I give it a 4 stars because it can sometimes be a little overcrowded, but that's not really their fault. It is a business and they gotta make money. Also 4 stars because it's time for me to part ways. The girls and guys are immature. I think if you're over 26 and still go to Madriver, well I cant help you there. It's a college and post college bar. Getting to old for it now. It was a great run though. Thank you Madriver for the memories!

The bouncers here are horrible, rude, and exceedingly unprofessional. I had a drunk male friend follow me into the girl's bathroom and barricade himself in my stall. A bouncer had to come in and kick him out of the bar, but proceeded to ACCUSE me of having sex in the stall! I tried to explain that the guy was really drunk and I couldn't get him out, and the bouncer not only refused to listen, but kicked ME out of the bar. Had this been a sexual assault case, this would have been a completely inappropriate way to handle a female trying to explain what happened, and could have potentially put her in a dangerous situation. The staff needs to be educated on how to handle sexual assault and male misconduct.

Uh no! Mad river manayunk is best known for blacked out college students probably who have gotten in with fake IDs. I'd be surprised to know if they break fire code on the weekends as they let in way too many people. If you like boxing outside the ring mad river is the place to go. Juiced up bros and bimbos are constantly looking to pick a fight, going as far as shoulder checking or tripping anyone just because. Want a drink? You'll have to fight your way up to the bar for that as well. Steer clear.
