While I have loved the Kitty Kat Club since I was an undergrad, tonight I had the most disappointing experience. I showed my government issued passport at the door, and as a server in the Minneapolis industry, am aware of the legality of it's presentation. The door person proceeded to argue (mockingly) with me when I disagreed with their statement "passports are not accepted in bars." Letting them know I am in the industry myself, and know the state law, they repeatedly continued to tell me "not in bars." I asked if I should leave as they won't accept the "invalid id" and then I was told I could enter the establishment regardless. WHAT? If it is invalid shouldn't I not be served? I would normally brush these issues off, however this door person chose to tell my coworkers who followed me in later that we got into an argument over my passport's validity. This was extremely poor guest service, they could have been much more cordial in handling the situation, they should not have discussed this issue with other guests, and in fact, could have called a manager over. I chose to leave the Kitty Kat Club and all my coworkers (we were out for post-training mingling as we are all staffed to run the new Varsity Theatre).
I am extremely frustrated by the lack of professionalism or knowledge from this employee. Please refer to the MN statute below:
340A.503 PERSONS UNDER 21; ILLEGAL ACTS. Subd. 6. Proof of age; defense; seizure of false identification. (a) Proof of age for purchasing or consuming alcoholic beverages may be established only by one of the following: (3) a valid passport issued by the United States.
