First time there and I will definitely be coming back. Great place to enjoy some great reggae music with a mature crowd and good food and drinks. Wife took me here for my birthday to see Freddie McGregor.
Our waitress was great food was great overall great time
Love the service and the food
No complaints at all, staffs are friendly everything’s ok
Good food. Liked the egusi and pounded yam
Extremely poor customer service. Got my order wrong and kept me waiting for over 1 hour.
Nice place. Music is nice. However many of the item on the menu that ran out off... big turn off... possible will not return
Love the food and drinks, great service after a long day!!
Customer service was great, food was awesome, enviroment and waiting period was normal but price was alittle high which I dont mind
I had a great time there, delicious food and live music!
Nice atmosphere. Good service.
I was really excited to patron an African owned establishment. I ordered wings at 11pm, they accidentally gave my wings to someone else. I didn't receive my wings till midnight. The waitress told me she would discount them for me. The discount was $2.35 on a $11.75 meeal (see pic below). I told her forget it and that they could keep it. Then she gave them to me for free. I didn't want them and they weren't that good. I was walking out the door and saw my friend sitting down and it took us to flag a waitress down after 45 minutes of waiting to get service. In general the service was slow and apathetic. A cover charge of $10 for a poor turnout and it smelled like a sweaty hotbox that has not been cleaned up in forever. Not a good experience at all. I do wish it to improve.
I really enjoyed my time at Kola Restaurant, they had a very nice Jazz band and vocalist that night and the show was fantastic. Just sad they ran out of curry chicken before I got there.. Overall it was a great experience.
Great place to have a good time. Service is fast.
Had a great lunch recently. Portions are generous and staff friendly. Never had beef suya before but it has become a favorite.
I love this place. It's my new home away from home.
Nice place and location.
So great! The food is good and the atmosphere is great. I feel so comfortable there
Nice club, went with my husbnd Dj.Mo
From Chicago went there with my freind. Had a good time Love the food and the music
Love it! Live music. Authentic, Afrocentric, cuisine... lovely atmosphere attentive staff, what's not to like!
Great food and music. Service could be better.
Pricier than expected. The fu-fu was rather dry. The music played by a dj was too loud. It wasn't worth the money imo
It seemed a bit disorganized. The staff apologized quite a bit but still not the most pleasant experience. Drinks were good
I think this is one of those places where you have to manage your expectations when it comes to service, so I'm rating it with that in mind. The service was VERY SLOW. VERY SLOW. If you can get over that, you'll be good. The food was great. The beef suya and egusi were real standouts. At first I thought it was a little pricey, but the portions are so large that it's worth it. The drinks were a bit overpriced, but not too bad at $9 per. I was there on a Friday night, and they had live music for maybe an hour or two. Then, they switched to a DJ. Both were good. I'm not sure what the crowd is usually like on a Friday night, but there weren't many people there. I'm planning to go back to try more of the menu.
The music is nice. I went here for a friends birthday/going away party. I did try the food it was okay. The rice is really spicy amd the plaintains are meduim sweet. The dj was super nice. There is a cover charge for women after 11 so i suggest getting there before hand. They have a nice sized dance floor and a decent amount of seating. Its kind of a homey place with lots of artwork on the walls. I would go again. The crowd was chill for a Saturday night but it got hyper the later it got.
Excellent service, good food and great atmosphere overall!!
Beautiful place to relax and have fun. Loved it.
I love this place. Great food. Great music. You have to check this place out.
Absolutely the best African cuisine in all of the city of Detroit!!!!! Always some quality entertainment going here!!!! And the service is PHENOMENAL!!!!!!!
Great African(Nigerian) restaurant with Great food, music, and drinks. Different nights feature bands, Caribbean music, World music, rnb and spoken word. This place is definitely worth visiting.
Always a great time at Kola. DJs are awesome, food is great.
Loved the food and atmosphere!
High expectations, underwhelmed. I ordered jollof rice with goat and plantains and so did my friend. The service was super sloooooo..ow! The food was fresh but just alright. I would have given it 4 stars but the goat was mostly fat and bones and the goat meat was very tough.
They made my 40th Birthday the most memorable experience! Best customer service! Food, staff, drinks, music, cleanliness, and decor ALWAYS ON POINT! Liz, the manager, was VERY PROFESSIONAL! She helped me plan every detail before the party and everything we discussed was there when I arrived! It's my favorite hang out spot, go there all the time and can't wait to go back!
Good African meal, but be forced to pay 18% tip each of you in a group of 4 or more!
Great food! I just wish they had better hours to accommodate families and not just night life.
A very nice place!!!
Very laid-back atmosphere went for poetry night for the first time. I was extremely happy that the restrooms were clean
Kola is great. If you 're real african, you'll feel like HOME. If you're not, you'll still feel like HOME. Food is great. Everything nice.
Great vibe. Eccentric. Play American music occasionally. Good food. Drinks are reasonable
Service was very poor. It took 25 minutes to get someone to take my order. And it 30 minutes to get my food. The food was good but it was cold.
I love it I will go back
Good food. They also have a separate room for parties.
Great spot at night and day for Nigerian food.
The atmosphere, the food, the people it was amazing I recommend this venue for anyone. Almost a prefect blend of cultures. In addition my server Brittany was amazing the whole evening, you go !
Great atmosphere to meet, eat, greet and dance to boot. Nice accommodations for a party or gathering as well. Ethnic food is OUTSTANDING!
I Love Kola, great music and food is great, I love the service, the staff are awesome.
Had a wonderful time. Great atmosphere.
Alot of drinks to take
They have no snacks at the bar or at the tables
The wait staff was terrible we had to wait too long to get service. We ask the waitress to give us 5 minutes, but 5 minutes turned into 20 minutes therefore I went to the counter to place my order. She was busy texting that she didn't realize I was standing there. The food I selected was fair. The joloff rice was brown, I was used to it being yellow and it didn't have much flavor. The best part of the evening was the D.J.
Friday nights are dance floor night. Great food as well.
I love kolas restaurant. The food is great. Professional services.
If i could give them a zero, i would. This is the worst jollof rice i have seen. Its just horrible. It would have been best to say the food was unavailable than this tasteless.... It was made with palm oil.
Nice authentic African cuisine, great music and friendly atmosphere
Went to this godforsaken place and sat down for 20 minutes but no one even cared to say anything to us. We drove an hour from Toledo. They attend only to their regular customers. If there was 0 star I would give it. The waitress shows up and had the audacity to tell us they were closing at midnight. We sat down for about 20 minutes but no one acknowledged us.We had called to let them know that we were on our way. I would not recommend that restaurant to the devil, that's how terrible they were.
Food is better than expected. Will definitely visit again. It is a little pricey though but well worth it for authentic fare.
I had a birthday party here last night, and I have to say it was nothing less than amazing. The manager (forgot her name) made sure my guest and I was taken care of. She was very very nice and thoughtful and I will be back. ALL my guest enjoyed themselves as well and the food was delicious oh my God. Oh I don't want to forget the DJ he did an outstanding job!
Kola is NICE! Afrobeat all night. Don't request anything. It will take 2 hours for the dj to play it. That is why I did not rate it 5 stars. Food is really good. Nice atmosphere to hug up with your date, or go out with your crew and enjoy each others company.
Great food for the people that like African cuisine! Great drinks and the live music is a nice touch
Exciting. Excellent food. Hype DJ! Loved it
Great food and place
Great food, great workers, wonderful atmosphere
Ok place to hear nigerian music
I've visited Kola several times for dinner and special events. My most recent visit was on a Saturday to celebrate my birthday with family and friends. The menu included chicken, jollof rice and salad. The food was delicious as always. Thanks to the Kola team for wonderful time!
Great service Great food!
Great place, really good food and awesome staff.
Nice atmosphere great staff.
Nice entertainment and the 2 Jakes were excellent!
Awesome atmosphere. Good entertainment. Great food. Awesome bar manager Syreeta. Awesome customer service. Beautiful place to be.
Lovely place enjoyable food friendly people
You can learn some dance steps or some Hustle lessons. But the food is not very good.
Good Nigerian food. But the ambience of the place can be improved on.
Good Nigerian cuisine
Food is amazing. A bit pricy.
Good place to go if you like to dance good music great food
Very ghetto place not safe at all
The music was great and atmosphere was nice. The waitress forgot about our table many times and always had to proactively ask for what we needed or find her. My rice was cold and spicy the jerk chicken dry and unappealing. The only thing I liked was the music. Food too pricey for what was offered even the fries were bland. Will come back for the music and maybe drinks.
This is a great place for dancing in a Saturday and a great live band on Friday happy hours. I just wished they had a better liquor selection.
Im in love again GUS GUS SOUP
Kola Restaurant has authentic West African cusine ! Light soup with goat, spicy beef stew, and the fried plantains were my favorite items. They also have decent FuFu, warm and soft, that goes well with either light soup or the beef stew. Finally, Saturday nights, Kola transforms into a lovely Afrobeats venue like no other in this side of Michigan. They play all the best hits, and attracts a really diverse crowd from East, West and South African disapora and play those hits. Highly recommended!!✌
I love the food especially the moi moi. And the waitress Esther is the best
This was a nice surprise. The waitress was pleasant and friendly. The food portions were generous. The atmosphere was calm and peaceful. It didn't become crowded until the poetry recital...really nice!
Great atmosphere.. really chill. Would love to try the food.
Other than the fact that the doorman charged us an entry fee and wasn't suppose to .....the food was delicious! Once we complained to the manager our money was refunded. Would definitely go back for the food
I love this place! The food is always good and music is live.
Tell you the truth, they are rip off and food is not as good as it seems . They charge me $42.99 for two orders. And they never give me my change back, and they never apologize for over charging me. Food suck.(P.S. my mother in law is Ghanaian and she makes the best goat stew and jollof rice)
Omg!! I come here all the time and food never disappoints!! The Beef Suya and Jollof Rice are my favorite dishes!! Also love the Kola Rum Punch! 1 of my favorite spots in Metro Detroit!!
Good place to go to burn some calories.
Nice quaint establishment. Drinks are good. Cannot rate the food because I did not order.
Yummy food. The wait time to get the food was too long but food was tasty.
Beautiful place to eat and have a drink and the staff is beautiful too please enjoy
Nice spot, service a little slow, music on point, food moderately priced and filling. I plan to try another visit on a different night.
I paid $35 for two entrees that are smaller than appetizers. #Overpriced
Nice place to socialize and dance with good African food.
This place was a very interesting place. Parking was hard but once you get inside the music was good and the server for awesome. They make your drinks right and don't hold back. Also the food was good but a bit pricey
My first time it was a nice place.
Food is always good, service is a little shaky.
Friendly service, great food and music!
Loooooovvvvved the Suya appetizer. BEST dish i had there for a first timer. Would go again.
Delicious food and good atmosphere.
First time in Michigan detroit area. I'm Jamaican so it was very pleasant to find this very clean, welcoming atmosphere, good food Restaraunt within a quick 5 minute walk from my hotel. I went late evening and they had a live band up until around 9pm. Then the dj took over and by then it was more of a night club /lounge type atmosphere. Everyone danced and had a great time and the vibe was just easygoing and mello. Check it out! If in the area. You will like if not love it.
Food is very good
Great place to attend an event. Good seats, excellent diversity of crowd. Highly recommend going there for poetry night!
Kola has changed over the years. A few years ago, it was a guaranteed Saturday night party with lots of people (but not overcrowded) and great African music. But the last few times I've gone Saturday night, it has been very empty. I think this is due to several factors: DJs who played too much American music to appeal to broader audiences. People started going to American venues for half the price. Cover charge is pricey. It was worth it when I knew what I was getting, but less and less so.
The owner of place is super routed because my dad asked if can take some empty beer bottles and he no said no reason?
Drink was alright, a bit pricey. Parking was decent, music was good and enjoyed being taught a few moves from the instructor, and food was decent. Small venue but you'll have major fun while you're there..
The food’s amazing, the service is warm, this place feels like home! My son really enjoyed his food, and Sarita was super nice to us!! I’d recommend this place to anyone looking for a West African flavor punch in the mouth! Also, nightlife is cool here, too!
Cool place! Live music.
Went to hear my friend's husband and brother perfom..they did a great job..
Please make sure that you get people orders out in a timely manner and if not offer them something for the wait.
Nice African food, but needs to work on customer service delivery time
The food was really delicious and fresh. The staff is nice and respectful. As always, there's always some dance practice going on in the background. Overall, a great experience!
Great place! Good live entertainment.. Got the crowd involved. Good authentic food. Great staff. Loved the atmosphere
This place is worth a visit. They serve big portions for affordable prices. Consistently neat and with excellent character. Will come back again.
Great place for authentic Nigerian food. Loved the egusi soup. Only bad thing is service is slow as hell. Food overpriced. My rum punch barely had any rum.
Over priced fare.
Kola is a huge yes !! This place is off the chain. It has a comfortable setting , great live music , sports on the t.v. , a bar , amazing service and the food was fantastic!! I arrived during the night time and there was nothing but good Caribbean island style music all night . I would love to visit this place once again!! Its also a really good place to take a date and have a intimate time on the dance floor
Great place. Good food. Nice entertainment
Great place. Great food. Great music. Super Atmosphere .
Everything about my first experience at this place was amazing. The music, food, serve, and atomsphere was great for me and my guest. Will definitely be back for more fun times and great food
Areal fun place with a lot of. cultural Gathering
Mixed reviews here. Food is great on some nights and terrible on others. Service is so-so. Aside from that, music is great on the weekends
Really friendly staff. Good food and laid back atmosphere.
I had a really great experience.
Atmosphere is nice. Like the ballroom lessons. Food is good. Service os a little
Nice set up with good music and food, friendly staff too
Birthday party. They have Nigerian and Caribbean food. The bar is nice and the dance floor has hard surface. It is located in a small strip mall, not visible from the road. This is good
As a Nigerian citizen... this place is great news for your needs. This is one of the best things nearest home...Both myself and my son were enroute to Southfield Michigan.. when we stopped by for Lunch. The customer service representative was receptive and supportive... They explained all the available menu and were quick to serve us... The place also have a lounge and they have different events for the Xmas and the New year.
Great place. Wasn't at all what i thought. Was a great time. Food was wonderful
nice cozy spot to relax ..great food
The staff was very friendly and the food was good. The drink I had was good but a little weak, just keeping it real.lol Starter's bar and grill drinks will spoil you for sure!!
Too expensive even with discount!
Nikki Gio (Friday night performer) is amazing! Beautiful voice!
Overpriced drinks...nice ambiance...waitress easy and quick they forget how much you gave them
I’m used to good food having lived in Chicago and in San Francisco for the past few years. When it comes to jerk chicken and rice - can’t get much better than Kola. Just the right amount of spice and flavor is on point. Enough said.
The atmosphere is nice, the drinks and the food was good, not to mention that happy hour is until 8 ...and they have one of the best dance instructors in the world. My family and friends had a blast!
The atmosphere is very ire/laid back. I was there on a Saturday night and they have ballroom and hustle lessons. Very nice!. Now food and drink- awefull! The food was terribly dry. I had coconut rice with black eye peas?! It was dry. Plantain normally has the texture of candy yams, these were roasted, not in the skin. Dry. The chicken had jerk sauce on the top, oven baked, could not taste jerk seasonings it was also dry. I notice that several people ordered wings and fries, must be the best thing to order. The planters rum punch, the juice mixture was good, could not taste any rum. My bill $28.90. Not worth it! I'll stick with The Jamaican Pot to eat and go to Kola to dance.
The foods are ok,the people are cool, the music is great, so many people together in one place all wanting to have fun make it all fun.
Very nice place and food is great.
I love happy hour!!! I love their wings!!!!
If you enjoy African cuisine food is great!
The best restaurant I’ve been to in a loooooooong time GREAT service
Amazing experience
Went there with my husband for my niece birthday party and had a great time✔ Drinks were good and strong
Fantastic food and incredibly friendly crew in an unique environment.
It was a nice. We enjoyed the Nigerian dishes ordered thoroughly
