It's got that dive bar feel with a rock and roll mentality. One enters the place and finds themself in 1979 with cell phone in hand. It has that "hole in the wall" feel with some amazing acts. The stage is small and can rarely contain the energy of its performers...go for the bands, stay for the local color.

Genos is what you expect and delivers nothing more. Hosts a variety of shows from near and far. Showcases punk and metal bands. One of the longest withstanding least pretentious venues in Portland. Local, "dive bar" with sometimes not divey prices and the yuckiest bathroom and water fountain you may experience. Has table games like pool, pinball, and foosball. Cash only. Usually a cover charge at the door. Sometimes cold, sometimes hot. Sometimes good, sometimes bad. No homophobes, republicans, or squares. Usually always a good time. Come and be miserable and/or happy, but most of all you can be yourself. Support local music.

Great venue. Great shows (metal, hip hop, burlesque, and more), lots of space. Middle of town too. Very lovely staff and friendly locals. Pool table, foosball, and touchtunes here.

This building was first a movie theater ( I saw "Popeye the movie" here when I was a boy...). Then it was an adult movie theater, a shorter lived club called "The Skinny" and now the second location for "Portland's CBGBs". You enter to a lobby with space for cover charge collection and wristband distribution (bathrooms are on the right). Through the doors, you enter the bar itself, drink service to the right and the pool table, foosball, jukebox, pinball and atm machine (bar is CASH ONLY!) on the left. Down a few steps is the audience area. Sightlines in the club are great from anywhere thanks to the movie theater style sloping floor. The soundsystem is modern and pretty new, it has glowing blue lights, so you know it's good! Bookings here seem to be mostly metal these days. The regulars are always friendly, but just know that this is a rock club, not a hipster cocktail tea party saloon. Have fun!

Went here for my first time for a saw a death metal show. The staff was so friendly and helpful and the venue itself is small and intimate but wasn't really crammed or uncomfortable. And the drinks were priced like alcohol bar drinks ($8 for liquor as opposed to upwards of $14). Very surprised and pleased that they didn't jack up the prices like most venues do. Only wish I lived closer but it's certainly a place I'd recommend.

Friendly staff and patrons even during punk or metal bands. Grunge and leather apparel welcome. To just drive by people and storefront look shady but don't be deceived. Friendliest dive bar ever. Legendary rock club. Very low hassle in fact I've never seen an issue here. So check your attitude at the door,, and enjoy great local music. All are equally welcome.
