Penguin's has an old school, basement comedy club feel. It can get a little crowded depending on the night/comic. I'd go with a beer bucket, if don't want to wait around for drinks (which are reasonably priced).

Was fun but didn't like sitting at a table with people we didn't know. The gentleman complained about people next to us. We didn't mind the people next to us as much as much as having to listen to this gentleman's complaining the whole time. Love Penguins and absolutely recommend to others

Open mic Wednesday was a great time - and it was free! Arrangement of comics with 5 minutes for their skit each. It felt like an episode of Marvelous Mrs Maisel at the gaslight - Iowa style. Interesting array of characters and funny topics discussed. I already know I'll be back and recommend dropping in!

Was thinking of going, but couldn't find anywhere in your website if it was handicapped accessible. I called and left a message and no one ever responded. I only found out the club was in a basement after reading a review. I use a prostetic leg and a lot of stairs are difficult for me. Just my two cents. Glad I didn't waste my time getting to the club to find out it was in a basement. If you have access you should let it be known.

Since it's the only comedy club in Cedar Rapids, it's also the best :-\, but the setting is rather run down and crowded. Bar service in between acts is overwhelmed by customers.

Wait staff kept them coming even if it was diet coke, comedians were all funny shared some great laughs. nice place, overall very positive experience. Comedian Steve Kramer could make it as a singer, and still was very funny. Great impersonations, some of it hysterical. Really freakin funny.

So it's under a hotel or something. I don't think we were IDed at any point. Iowa for ya? Maybe I look over 30 now. But the review is mostly for the place and not the show, but I have to talk about the show. The show was mediocre. Our primary comedian had jokes about his family and jokes about doing shows overseas for the troops. Some were funny, some were funny and vulgar, some were just not funny. The other comic was drunk and 'read from books'. Our mc was pretty funny all around. I think he should do a show. Drinks were fairly cheap. We stuck to the macros though. They charge for soda water...

2 drink minimum for a show isn't a bad thing, but the price on some of those cocktails is outright theft. Otherwise, a great place to enjoy some laughs.

Great Stage, but the owner DOES NOT LIKE TRUMP and is in his BUBBLE and will NOT TOLERATE anyone saying ANYTHING POSITIVE about our WONDERFUL PRESIDENT! So, Comics, if you don't want to be "banned" from C-RAP (since they call Grand Rapids G-Rap, I believe Cedar Rapids is C-RAP!), DO NOT mention your love of our country or our Presiden Trump! I DID give a 5 star before the owner got on my timeline on Facebook after he was set off with his Trump Derangement Syndrome! He went on to say that I was pitching a Ponzi Scheme with Bitcoin posts I was posting when Bitcoin was $2400! Today it hit 8k! The owner is an uneducated, bigoted, man, but if you avoid him (Jeff Johnson - from USA entertainment) you might have a good time!

Limited options, not very busy, service was not impressive considering there were only about 16 people there it was ridiculous how long it took the waitress to get around to everyone. Comedy was okay, openers/preshow comedians were awful.

Great atmosphere with a pool table and other parlor games. Stage area is a little cramped but it offers good comedians with an up close and personal feel.

The comedy act was great! Jeff Dye! Probably not going back again, un fortunately! One of our group made a couple comments to Jeff, which actually gave him some more material to work with, but we were told that we couldn't do that because people came to hear the comedy , not us! On 3 different occasions, we were told to be quiet. We had met Jeff prior to the show and had drinks with him. Others had made comments during the first two comedians and that seemed ok. We were closer to the back where the Gestapo was and some customers who go to Iowa games and sit on their hands. Guess we watch on TV from now on!

Not a very "pretty" place but this was more than made up for by the fact that the staff was super friendly & the service was good. The drinks were good and the prices were cheap. They don't serve food which was a minor disappointment. All in all, we had a great time.
