Don't listen to the reviews saying how terrible the wait for food is. Not true and calm down. The food is excellent. Try the vegan hot wings. And can't beat the loco moco with a vegan patty. Tuesday is taco Tuesday with drink specials and a different menu. The music they play is fantastic, the vibe is great, service was quick, friendly, and consistent. We recently moved to Honolulu and this place is quickly becoming our favorite.

The staff is very friendly, and actually goes out of their way to be helpful even when it's really busy. They always make us feel welcome. They have some of the best vegan food in Honolulu! The bbq vegan chicken sandwich is excellent. But all the other vegan options are great too! This is my favorite food stop in Honolulu!

Vegan wings. Need I say more? This is the first place I have had vegan wings and they are my favorite thing on the menu. With that being said everything I’ve tried has been delicious (all vegan options) the staff is also very nice every time I’ve come for takeout.

Those vegan hot wings and that ranch sauce are a gift from the stars. Great vegan options. A diamond in the rough suite of burger places in Honolulu so far for us. Place is casual dinner with booths for sitting. They could do with a sign on the street, we we're lucky to notice it when walking by. Staff were really friendly and good service.

Awesome little diner located in Chinatown! My girlfriend came to eat with her friends and raved about the Mac and cheese with bacon! We were in the neighborhood and decided to stop by again so I can try it out! And she was right about the Mac and cheese! Being from the south, I love a good Mac and cheese and they nailed it! But what I love most about this small diner is that most of the menu can be altered to be vegan! My gf did the vegan pesto chicken sandwich and I couldn't even tell it wasn't chicken! And I'm a chef! A neighbor enjoying lunch beside us called for service to ask if it was vegan because they couldn't tell either!! 5/5 for this place from me, as it is deserved. If you're in Chinatown, do yourself a favor and give it a try!

This is a great choice for vegans and vegetarians. They have some great non-meat options. It is a very casual place. Nice place to grab a bite to eat with friends. They have a little bar area and the drinks are fabulous. Oh, and speaking of drinks... the shakes are fabulous. I would recommend the veggie burgers any day. The curly fries are super yummy as well!!!! I will definitely be back.

As other people have said the wait for service here is excruciatingly long. It took something like an hour for our food to come out, and that was due in part to the kitchen losing our ticket, but also I think something that's just systemic to the restaurant. When we did finally get our food it didn't really live up to I guess the hype, or better put it wasn't worth the wait. It was delicious don't get me wrong but it wasn't worth the amount of time that we had to wait for it. We had the fake chicken wings, which we're actually really surprisingly good to me. I also got an order of volcano fries which I found to be a little underwhelming. The rest of my party ordered burgers and they were very happy with their food but I would find it very difficult to recommend coming to this establishment. Well I probably come back, yeah but I'm going to probably pregame before I go.

I really used to love this place but they cut down the menu and the staff is a bunch of stoners. I had to order twice because my server forgot where he put the paper with my order so I had to wait even longer. Then it was brought to me cold and without utensils. I had to wait for a few minutes at the bar just to ask for a fork. Waiting to be served takes way to long so when I got tired if waiting to pay I waited for the bar tender to ask what I wanted and I asked for my check which was given to me by a waitress who noticed he wasn't going to help me. And then I waited at the bar for them to take my card for almost five minutes. No wonder they're making cuts when they hire incompetent people. They even got rid of the projector.

The food was pretty good, but the service left much to be desired. The server took forever to get our orders, forgot to bring us our waters. We even saw other customers leave after sitting down because no one came to took their order. If only the service was better, I would definitely be coming back, but as it stands it's best if you skip over this joint and go elsewhere.

Absolutely the worst service I've received every time I go there. I've gone 3 times with 2-6 people each time and the servers are rude. They don't care you're there. They slam you're drinks down, don't acknowledge you and talk about you eating your food as if they did something to it, to they're co workers. But I will say the food is tasty. I guess they're rudeness and possibly spit it in food is worth it if you want tasty vegan/ normal food.

What a find! A hip little diner serving vegan food, with a smile - perfection! We had the vegan Buffalo wings with ranch, vegan chicken and waffle, and tofu pesto scramble with pancakes. Oh, and don't forget the chocolate and peanut butter milkshakes. The options are endless and the food is great. I think we may have found our new favorite in Honolulu.

Ordered vegan Chili Moco but accidentally the waiter brought vegan Loco Moco, though he kindly provided a bowl of chili on the side. Having had it this way, they might consider offering the combination as it turned out to be a really great flavor. Chill vibe and really engaging atmosphere made for a solid dining experience.

This is one of the few restaurants with good veggie options that's open on a Sunday. It may be best to keep groups to a maximum of 4-5, as there are only booths with a couple of smaller tables. The food is your standard from a diner - comfort food such as BLTs, breakfast, wings, etc. The service was quite prompt, and our food arrived in a timely manner despite that we were a larger group. Be sure to try out the VLT (it's the veggie version of a BLT). Be sure to stop by if you're in the area!

They actually made my burger medium. Usually i ask for medium well, but places always give me well done. So I ask for medium and places still gave me well done. I asked for medium here, and they actually did it. They actually made my burger how I asked, WOW. And the fries are cripsy and chunky and NOT too salty. It was great. Simple meal, gud quality.

Love this place! Tons of options for vegan and non vegan foods. Great atmosphere, small place but has bar seating that can accommodate up to 8 people so that's one solution if you're ok with your group sitting in an L shape sort of. Well worth it! Check it out!

Went w/2 friends Saturday eve. Reuben was delicious, good mozzarella stix, but jalapeno poppers disappointed. Too salty + only a slice instead of whole stuffed pepper. Wait staff were super busy, but very wuick with table orders and answers. Worth a return visit.

Just wanna start by plainly saying the food here is good! Lots of vegan options as well which is great for a friend of mine. That said, the food takes...longer to come out than expected? Kinda just feels like they Must be short staffed or something. The drinks are good and their speciality days offer great deals too, like $3 margaritas. I had been here a couple times before ate burgers and drank beer. Recently brought some friends here on the First Friday of August 2018 around 1am who were planning to go to Waikiki for food and had no idea Downbeat was a restaurant, they enjoyed their food and I enjoyed drinking away from the crowded street and clubs/bars. This is a great place for late night grindz(food) if you're in the area.

I've heard good things about Downbeat as a place to eat, unfortunately my experience tonight was not the case. Sad to say the service to night was subpar. Our server only checked on us once in about 20 minutes. I also had to flag down the server for more water. The worst part of my visit was the main reason I went, the food. In the picture I posted, you can see an overcooked tortilla that was used for my BBQ wrap that immediately unwrapped once I picked it up (due to the burnt/stiff tortilla). You can also see burnt tortilla chips that made up the majority of nachos that were ordered. Considering quality for the price point; rip off. The only saving grace was their bartender's expertly crafted cocktails, I would have ordered more drinks but our server didn't visit us much

After telling the server a few times that my whole family is vegetarian, I ordered a few things for takeout including chicken tenders. I get home and they are actual chicken tenders. I called and her response was "well, we dont serve vegetarian chicken tenders." This mistake ruined my son's dinner, and therefore, ruined our whole family's dinner. A restaurant like this should be more trustworthy and attentive. I found this issue and the server's response to be unacceptable.

I had such high hopes after this place was recommended to me by a vegetarian friend. I am only giving this place two stars for the milkshakes. The food and service ranged from mediocre at best to terrible at worst. My initial impressions upon walking in the door were positive: I liked the diner ambiance, with cracked and fading hipster-friendly vinyl couches featuring 80s pop-icons (with a Hawaiian flavor). The soundtrack playing could have come off of my iTunes playlist, but was a little loud and made conversation difficult. There was apparently only one guy serving two customers at the bar and we seated ourselves. More than a few minutes later, we learned that the other two "customers" were actually waitstaff when one of them finally came by with menus. It took the other one another ten minutes to come back and ask for our order. When the food finally arrived it was as disappointing as the service. The burger I ordered was pedestrian at best. It was serviceable, but not worth what they charged. You could do similar with a frozen patty and some hamburger buns from the grocery store. The homemade ginger ale was poorly mixed - the flavor syrup was trapped below the ice and not mixed with the tonic. This does not speak well for cocktails at a place that also works as a bar and lounge. My companion's breakfast burrito oozed a orange grease, and continued to bleed this sludge throughout our meal. Biting into it did not improve the flavour, and while I appreciated their efforts at including taco chips to give it a bit of crunch and texture, they were overwhelmed and saturated by the thick oil. My companion wishes I'd photographed the dying beast to document how truly unappetizing it was. The one bright spot was their vegetarian milkshake, using a coconut base instead of milk. It truly was a great milkshake, and if the rest of the food had been comparable, this would have been a four or five star joint. I guess vegetarians don't have a lot of options for dining out?

Cool and trendy bar located right on Hotel St which was once infamous for being Honolulu's red light district. They have a nice appetizer menu and good selection of beers and wines. Customer service was really great. Only negative is the parking which is a good walk from the bar. And if you catch a Taxi or Uber, you have a short walk to the entrance. Overall good experience.

This is a hole in the wall reggae joint full of dudes dancing kinda strangely - but then again, dancing strangely is subjective. Some might say I dance strange. I honestly can’t think of anyone who would say that about me, but you never know. ;-) I was in there between 11p and midnight on a Saturday and there weren’t many people in there. They had a DJ spinning tunes, about a half dozen guys dancing by themselves and 2 or 3 women sitting in the corners. It was a strange place to say the least. Two well drinks and one beer were $21. I know it’s in the tourist area, but it’s a hole in the wall type of joint, so I expected to pay hole in the wall type of prices. I’d skip this one - it was kinda weird.

I've also eaten a bunch of their breakfast items which are pretty standard options, but they do them well. I like when we catch then showing a movie projected on the wall or fun stuff like that. Lots of public parking lots in Chinatown.
