Awesome spot of Yellowstone National Park

Cyndy Woods

Outstanding boardwalk over the thermal features

Just a short walk from the parking lot. You can smell the sulphur.

Mark Wotring

Amazing.

Monica Meistrell

Uuuummmm it's an amazing geyser. Really can't go wrong here.

Damodar Hegde

After visiting few geysers at Yellowstone, all geysers look same. Very touristy and tiresome for people with babies or elderly

Jon Good

Yellowstone’s hottest and most dynamic geothermal basin. Inconsistency is the rule here, meaning there are no predictable geysers, but it is an exciting place as changes can happen virtually overnight. Steamboat Geyser is what makes the basin famous. Unfortunately witnessing a major eruption is difficult. Prior to 2018 it was all but impossible with only a few eruptions in the last decade. March of 2018 began a period of remarkable activity that had not been observed since the early 80s. This has increased your chances exponentially but it is still a very variable geyser with a mind of its own. If you really want to see it, research its past activity and be willing to sit on it for DAYS. Even then there is absolutely no guarantee. It will do whatever it wants to do, which is what makes it so special. It is still interesting to see however. It’s frequent minor eruptions can actually reach 30 plus feet. Be sure to note the silica covered trees on the hill behind and the extensive runoff channels. In the Back Basin you will find Vixen geyser. If it is not erupting when you first see it it is worth give it a few minutes. It has highly variable intervals but can be very active at times, with fun, energetic eruptions. The Porcelain basin is in my opinion one of the prettiest places in Yellowstone. Unlike the clear water found in most other hot springs, the pools here are cloudy and opaque, but intensely colored. Broad flats of white silica are studded with blue, green and red, along with a large number a small but noisy bubblers and spouters. Few other places feel so alive with volcanic energy. One geyser in the basin worth mentioning is Constant. It’s eruptions are quite brief but pretty and often occur every 20-25 minutes. Watch the pool for obvious boiling as this usually tho not always leads to the bursting play.

Matt Fedorka

It feels like a moonscape. So many different geysers. Some are big and dormant. Some are small and active. Definitely worth the stop. Also don't go off the boardwalk.

stoner mcsteve

Beyond words

Gregg Wagener

There are several very active geysers in this basin. You may not be able to see a major eruption, but you might be lucky. You will see geyser activity.

Elizabeth Jenkins

Definitely a must-see at Yellowstone. We’re glad we made the stop!

Kevin Jones

Mind blowing

Jon Yan

Good place to learn

Evan Whitaker

No much of a museum.

Chien-Chang Chen

The geothermal activity here is amazing. You can see some geysers, lots of hot spring and smoking ground with sulfur smelling. At the far side you can see snow mountain. Ice with heat make it beautiful

John Andersson

The museum is not the central piece, but the surroundings are. And they are magnificent!

Kaydence Grebowiec

It was a very cool place to visit, and I definitely recommend it to your travel list!

Frank T

Pretty neat place.

T.J. Peckham

Go early or miss out on parking. The older fellow in the bookstore was full of information and willing to share it. The colors in the basin are beautiful, all should see this.

Kim Tiberi

Geyser gave us a great show. Almost didn't go because it was raining, glad we chose to go anyway!

You could understand how geysers form. There are limited parking lot here. You might take several minutes to find during 10:00-16:30

Brian Eldridge

There is a lot to see here.

Sam Tran

Multiple thermal hot springs throughout the big walking loop. Good excersise for your heart too.

RaeLe Carlson

This basin has tons of geysers! I loved this place. the boardwalks were really nice and gave you great views of the geysers. Yellowstone offers many treats like this. Be sure to add this one to your itinary when you go.

Netegories 99

The Norris geyser Basin museum has some interesting and informative information on the geology of Yellowstone National Park and the Norris geyser Basin area. They're generally is a ranger in the area so make sure you ask them questions and learn more about the park.

Joyce Griffith

Loved watching the geysers

byroN José sun

Do your self a favor a visit all of this places!

ls Song

Explaining the structure of various geothermal features of the Yellowstone National Park in a really simple way! Should be 1st stop (although geolocation make this impossible) when visiting The Yellowstone National Park.

Ganesh Balakrishnan

Amazing natural spectacle. But for older folks it is a long walk on the trails, be aware of that. Large steps lead down to Porcelain Basin.

Stephen Tiedemann

Really cool place to see

Barbara Barber

Great walking surfaces. Amazing geyser, beautiful!

sanket jain

When it comes out, you would feel omg!

Gary Gencarelle

Raja G

Fantastic geysers and great

Maxime Lemieux

If you're lucky, you could see the steamboat geyser erupt! Beautiful scenery from the overlook and at the Basin.

Kelli Peternell

Beautiful

Captain Scarlet

A good education stop

Michael Rough

Loved this area of the park. It was amazing. The museum was closed for the season, but the geysers and hot pots were really cool.

Erin O'Connell

A well-marked and well-signed, highly-traveled area. Keep a close watch on your children! This area remains incredibly dangerous to those who leave the established boardwalks and paths. Both the Porcelain and Back Basins are very much worth the stroll. If you've seen one geyser or pool, you have NOT seen enough. I only gave the area four stars because of the crowds of tourists. The area itself deserves five. Don't overlook the bookstore! It and the personnel are excellent. Drop in and purchase something to help Yellowstone Forever! (Not a paid advertisement, honest!)

Hamster Ball

Not a must do, if you have seen old faithful and the many other hot springs, then this place is redundant. Biggest issue is lack of parking. Museum is not much. If you visit, see Steamboat geyser and then backtrack to the small loop. The big loop is hot to walk and nothing you have not seen before in the park.

Isa DeJames

LOVE IT

norma Ortega

Beutiful, Amazing, worth the drive

Pat Fox

Remarkable in every natural way.

Bryce LeFevre

Bradley Hobbs

Fun place to visit

OHM OHM

Beautiful colors indeed.

Nancee Schuiteman

Beautiful!

Ashlea Miyauchi

Mimimal visitor center with helpful rangers, but not nearly as much info in the info displays. There is a short display about how geysers work, but you're better off checking out the displays at old faithful.

BOBBY BARKER

Really cool.

Casandra Hylton

Small, but informative about the area.

kenyon hart

Parking lot full

Meng Vang

Beautiful area and a must see!

Howard Falcon

What a beautiful place. Yellowstone is the best

Denis Hill

A great walk through geyser beds and heated streams. There's even a bench to rest on and meld with the blue sky and white vapor. Take the whole loop walk!

Jason Schaffer

Watchout for Steamboat! You can't hardly get that acidic silt off your cars!

Aaron James

Absolutely stunning place! You're mind cannot fathom the wonder of mother nature. This place illustrates how magnificent or planet is. Pictures cannot do it justice.

Linda Madden-Brenholts

Beautiful and awesome!

Ivan Collins

Probably the best basin we visited out ofr 4 stops in Yellowstone. The pools here are amazing, the walk relatively easy, and the parking not too bad.

William Stegall

Outstanding!!

Miles ILONGGA

This is one of the best geysers ive seen. Multi colored geysers that will surely wow you. Despite of the not so pleasant smelling gas that it expells, it is still one of the must visit places here in yellowstone.

Sharon Sprague

It was spectacular. We were there for the big eruption. Magnificent.

Funki Pickle

Really interesting area to explore, bit slippy in places in Winter and you don’t see all of the colour of the Summer months. On the other hand , there are less tourist and the steam billowing out of the vents into the trees makes it look stunning. For those who have mobility difficulties some of the walks down to the hydrothermal areas may be tricky.

Jonathan Tennis

"Trailside museum" designed by architect Herbert Maier...listed on the National Register of Historic Places, funded by a Rockefeller grant and has tons of info about the Norris Geyser. Cool place to check out.

Darren Albers

Geysers are what Yellowstone is known for and Norris Geyser basin is an easy to access location to view them as well as hot springs and similar geothermal features. Parking can be a challenge during peak times but still easier to navigate than the old Faithful area.

唐晓东

That is made by God!

Kasun Rambukwelle

Amazing

Therese Marcel

The norris geyser basin is a must see

Mauro Lauretta

Very nice

Jacob Clendenen

One of the best places to see a ton of thermal features. In the summer it can be very busy.

Jacob Budd

Interesting colors!

William Bryson

Nice if you are interested in the details of the area.

Daniel theNerd

Absolutely wonderful. You must visit if you are in the Yellowstone.

Ashok J

A large number of geysers covering 3 trails. Most geysers have a blue shade and is definitely worth walking all 3 trails

T L

Beautiful place, though it smells like rotten eggs obviously. Be careful with your kids, the water is very dangerous if they should get close or fall in. Remember there is a volcano underneath all this and that water is VERY hot.

Dustin Hand

Amazing sights of nature!!

Phillip Jones

A little small and sparse on information

Patrick Frank

Absolutely must visit. They geyser basin is amazing and full of wonders. Very colorful geysers, bubbling water and more. Must visit while in Yellowstone.

Jim Avery

So many natural colors in one area. It's a trail/ board walk there are no buildings.

Stacey Stouffer

This place is incredible. It feels like you enter another planet when you're walking around. Look for the people who are there to observe the geysers. Some of them have been coming for 30 plus years. Just listen to what they say. Most seemed willing to share their knowledge as they are passionate people who spend a good portion of their free time observing the geysers. A-may-zing.

Aravind K

It's quite nice. Not a lot of parking. Takes about 2 hours to walk the entire basin. However I will recommend doing it before the basin near old faithful.

Jessie Mott

The pool is awesome. Well maintained, clean and relaxed. Like other said, if you’ve seen old faithful and the pool group there, here looks similar to there.

Ronald Ramirez

The Museum doesn't have much in it. I was disappointing of it. It was okay for free.

Surender Yadav

Some of the geysers get dried as compare to last 5 year but still its beautiful.

Luke Donelson

Worth a trip around the trails

Roy Christiansen

Very active, part of the trail is under construction

Kenny Dolomont

Short easy walk to everything

UF HR

Guys in the middle of cold weather you have many geysers Wow the scenery

Robert Ostella

Must see. Nature at her best!

Willis Chung

Oh my gosh! What a place to visit at sunset! The short and long loops are wonderful to walk around as the sun sets behind the steaming pools and mudpots. The views here are more spectacular than at the Old Faithful area, in my opinion. Not very crowded towards sunset, either. Met two very friendly rangers, and they were obviously happy to be working in this part of the park. Sunset! Awesome!

Andrew Jurski

Love it so much

David Pendexter

Beautiful place, terribly parking situation.

Danielle Carlson

This was such a fun walk. I highly recommend it!

Ali Soberan

This place is magical, if you have the opportunity to come to visit, you will not regret it, it is beautiful and unique, it is simply spectacular!

John R

Less crowded but still has an "awe" factor.

Vladimir Davydov

It’s good point to find right trail for you.

Elaineah

Looks like an alien landscape!

Dave Cronkrite

It's just an incredible thing to see, to be there, and see all of these strange, strange things happening in front of you. The smells, the heat, the steam, the volcanic gasses, are a fantastic, 5 star experience. None of the geysers erupted during the 2 hours we spent there, but we only spent 1 1/2 on the trail. Still enough amazing geological features to make it totally worth it. I already want to do the next trail. Expect a lot of walking. The trails go for miles and miles. The one we took, the one with the huge Steamboat Geyser, was 1.6 miles, but not too many stairs. Why only 4 stars? The stink of sulphur is SO strong. It is everywhere in Yellowstone, but you get up close and personal with it on the trail. Hot, steaming, clouds of gas blow every direction. If you smoke or have diminished lung capacity, or COPD, I would recommend caution. Of you're fairly healthy, and are interested in such things, go, your first opportunity. The museum is near the parking lot, and the fumes are minimal.

Benjamin Feijóo

The walkways are very well maintained, so many different types of geysers on a short and pleasant walk!

Roberta Andruska

We loved the exhibits and walking around the basin. It was a cool day so the steam was really an eerie experience!

V Ashok kumar S

Largest network of interconnected geysers.

Roman P

Steve Wasser

Great stop

Meg B

So beautiful! The basin has a great overview of the boardwalk and the tallest geyser in the park (not predictable). Easy boardwalk. Only taking off a star for the overflowing trash and disgusting restrooms.

Hal Coghill

Great area with other worldly views. Do not miss this area.

William Kim Sherman

Beautiful upclose view of geysers. Wooden walk path for most of path. Easy to walk.

Pat Zalesky

Great walkways with good experience at seeing hot springs.

ALBERT ALEXANDER

It’s like you are on a different planet. A little smelly but bearable. Take lots of photos and watch out for the small geyser on the left as you are walking down the entrance trail. It is steep going down but manageable for most. No way for handicap though.

Roger McIntire

Incredible, like stepping back in time.

Erick Matzke

Very good place to learn and understand the cause of the physical phenomenon that you will or have just been viewing.

chetan mehta

Again wonderful , mesmerising

VaDondo

A small informative museum at the entrance to the geyser basin. It explains the geyser phenomena comprehensively. I recommend you visit it last so that you can take a rest from the long hike while you let what you just experienced sink in.

ashwini ashu

When we went on sep 3rd week we had heavy rain and snowfall. Still we went to see norris geyser. We didn't take bigger trail where actual eruption happens. Small trail also is not bad. We could see many pools

Robert Devor

Friendly staff, large animal park panorama identifying local fauna. Step outside & see real elk, bison herds, great horned owl nest; old military fort buildings.

Miranda Martin

Awesome! Everyone should see this!

Brandon R

Words can't describe and these pictures don't do it justice of the beautiful world we live in! Definitely a must stop location in Yellowstone, I would suggest trying to go early in the day or late afternoon because parking can become a nightmare

Witnessed the Showboat Geyser eruption today ( September 7th) at 10.17am . Magnificent power of nature we were so lucky to be there at the time as it had been inactive for 50yrs (only 3-4 in that time) this year 2018 this is the 18th!
