This Museum is classified in the category of Rail museum.
It’s a cool place part of my Steam shop tour trip, it has a wooden model big boy and model trains on the second floor
Really enjoyed the train museum
Explored everything but the paid part of the museum. Didn’t have time to pick my way through it. Happy to stop by and see one of the places and industries that helped build the west. A very impressive structure!
The Depot is the hot spot throughout the year. From the ball drop for New Years, the Farmers Market, Brews Fest, pancake breakfast to Friday nights at the Depot, it's a great time. You can catch live bands and good beer. Beautiful scenery and local shopping near by.
The area is very clean and quaint. Relaxing and very small town-like.
The old train station and repair yard in Cheyenne. Exhibits tell the story of rail service development in the region and the activities of the repair yard. Enjoyed it, have been before.
It is unfortunate that they have to charge for the local museum. I think if they just asked for donations they would attract a bigger crowd and a larger cash flow. The outside exhibits are outstanding.
Neat little museum in an old building from a bygone era. Almost too much information at times. Very neat!
A fun place to go to see a historic building. Built when the country was still very young.
Very nice, lots of interesting information. My adult son who is really into trains was really excited about the layout upstairs. The man upstairs spent alot of time chatting with us and running the train.
This was an interesting spot, not a huge museum but interesting to look back at much different time and appreciate what it took to build the transcontinental railroad.
A must see when visiting the Union Pacific Station. A lot of great historic information for the rail fan. The upstairs is packed with model trains and displays representing the local Union Pacific roites.
Downtown Cheyenne is really interesting. We walked in the center and there was a tattoo convention going on, next to a museum and gift shop attached to a brewery. I could have spent all day there. My son loved watching the trains go by and my boyfriend loved drinking the beer. Win win.
It was great. Found some of Frank Fogert"s train sets. What we were looking for.
The statues outside this museum are awesome. A little bit of history preserved for generations to come.
Amazing! Must see.
If you like trains and train history, you must stop here if you go thru Cheyenne, Wyoming. Many displays and pictures of train development in the Old West. Gift shop. Highly recommend to Take the Cheyenne Trolley tour to see how the development of Cheyenne was directly associated with Trains.
Wonderful museum showing the timeline of the rail road. Very informative. It is in the original Cheyenne union Pacific depot. I would definitely visit again!
Doesn't compare to so many other depots but it's ok.
Relatively small Museum but you do not have to be a railroad fan to enjoy it. Excellent exhibits telling about the history of the area and the Union Pacific Railroad. Helpful staff. Fully handicapped accessible.
Interesting and a variety of unique items
cool place
Saw operating antique railroad semaphore signal
Quiet and beautiful small museum in Cheyenne.
Great place great experience.
Great historic nostalgia. Allows for a discount when taking the trolley throughout the city. It will drop you off at various museums and pick you back up. Must see if visiting.
Great info on the history of the railroad in Cheyenne and an amazing viewing area of the railyard next door. A lot of trains passing by in the area.
This is a beautifully kept museum with some of the most treasured artifacts of railroad history and the transcontinental railroad I have seen. The model train exhibit upstairs is very interesting and the curator of that exhibit is anxious to speak to visitors about the history! The depot building itself is a gorgeous preservation of a different era in American history. You MUST visit this museum when you are in Cheyenne! Well done!!
Interesting place to see
My Husband and I went here on a whim and we are so glad we did! What a wonderful display of railroad history in Cheyenne. We really enjoyed the miniature model railroad display of all the mountain towns! Highly recommended as you travel through Cheyenne!
We especially liked the model railroad upstairs. The exhibits downstairs were also well done and informative. Prices in the gift shop are more reasonable than many other gift shops.
A throwback to the era of steam locomotives. A must-see for all you train buffs out there, especially those enchanted with steam engines, like my father. Coordinate your visit with a tour of the UP steam shop, where they are currently restoring a Big Boy, and also house a Challenger. Unfortunately we did not see the steam shop as tours are very limited and sell out months in advance. You can get tour info directly from the depot museum web site. It was still worth the visit to the museum, even if you can't coordinate a steam shop tour. A bonus can be found just about a mile away where a Big Boy is on display outdoors at Holliday Park in Cheyenne. A great experience!
What a great taste of the Union Pacific Railroad
Lots of history, be sure to check out the model railroad, very cool.
Really nice, clean and Employs was helpful. Love trains would like to see it again. >there was a model train running up stairs made by a guy in his trailer took 30years and All the scenery was based by real locations.
A cultural and historical piece of US history at the heart of downtown Cheyenne, located near the intersection of US Highway 85 and Lincolnway. Apparently, the Depot Plaza is a popular place during the year for events and goings-on, but there was not much going on when on Labor Day. A few of the "big boots" dotted around the outside of the Depot. The train museum inside is better; very informative and educational for kids of all ages. An impressive scale-model display on the second floor. We didn't see a dedicated parking area for the museum, so we used on-street parking.
Great museum. Friendly staff. The train model upstairs is astounding. It is worth a visit.
Loved my visit here. Cheap entry price, great displays with plenty of information and history, nice viewing area of the railroad, and a model railway. All in all is a great addition to any trip in Cheyenne. I recommended going even if you have just a passing interest in rail way history.
It's nice. I'm not into trains, so the museum is lost to me. But my little boy likes them, so I'll go back some time.
We decided to visit this attraction based on overwhelmingly positive Google reviews as well as one of our kids love trains. For the cost, $8/adult, this is an extremely small museum. Upstairs they have a really cool model railroad set up, however, upon our arrival, a Saturday, there was no one available to run the trains. We understand the running of the model trains is dependent on volunteers, so would recommend calling ahead of time if you plan to visit to ensure you get to see them. We did like the chairs upstairs so you can watch trains that come through the rail yard. We were lucky to get to see one come through.
Very interesting and informative museum about the history of the east railroad meeting the west. I love model railways, it is huge, but was a bit lifeless for younger children.
Awesome. Loved learning about the trains. And the cool model trainscape upstairs was awesome
We enjoyed everything about the museum except the intrusive video which played relentlessly. Turning down the volume would help a lot.
We drove an hour and a half out of our way to see this. It would have been worth it for twice the distance. Strongly recommend the trip.
My 4yo granddaughter loves all the hands on exhibits.
It was a little interested to check out all about trains and their place in history, but I have to be honest nobody walked out of their with a smile, even the kids. I'm not sure what to say, the place was half working, customer service was very poor and couldn't even fake a smile.
Glad to have seen, but sorry no tour to round house and back shop.
$8 admission. Good
Loved the whole downtown area of Cheyenne. The station is fantastic.
The old station is a wonderful building, and the museum offers many interesting exhibits and artifacts spanning the length of American railroading in Cheyenne. At $8/adult, I felt the price was fair. A must-see for any railroad aficionados driving near by!
Very cool. A must see when in Cheyenne.
Neat exhibits, great model train layout.
Cool place to check out. Lots of history and was fun to tour with the Golden Richards crew.
Awesome experience, if you love railroading, this is the place to see..
Nothing was open for us to do. Everything ends after Labor day. Too bad for us senior citizens that are getting out to travel after all the kids go back to school.
So much history!!Very education and you get to appreciate what our american history.
A good place to visit when in Cheyenne!
Best place to start your orientation of Cheyenne.
This place is so cool love the tour and the museum.
A fun museum if you like trains. It's certainly enhanced by being in a vintage Depot with lots of train traffic. A nice set of models, upstairs. So many good replicas of routes in the region.
So much history! Very comfortable viewing area. Model train layout was fabulous!
Shiny happy people.
Very beautiful inside & out! We loved the tile work inside and the architecture throughout the building. The whole place is like a work of art. Anything that gives love to trains is a hit with my 2 year old. It's an amazing place to see the trains and learn about the history... It's also a great location near other tourist attractions.
Grew up with this place too when it was an actual passenger station.
This was really a neat place. A step back in history.
It was a decent little museum, but not worth the price in my opinion. The one thing I would say is that the gift shop is about your only option in Cheyenne for to buy a gift that says Cheyenne on it. We looked at several stores and ended up back here.
We were fortunate to get the last tour of the steam train shop. The building is beautiful. Our kids really enjoyed the looking at the artifacts from long ago, like old scales for weighing luggage, type writers, and old phones. The model railroad upstairs was a little outdated. Everyone was very friendly and it was a nice stop on our way to Yellowstone.
Nice place to learn about Cheyenne and Union Pacific history. Hidden gems throughout the property. Slow down and enjoy
2 floor is dedicated to a model train layout all hand made took 30 years to build incredible detail. It's a reproduction of the actual railroad that ran thru the area 150 years ago. First floor has exhibits of photos and equipment from the railroads of them area. All in all a pleasant way to spend an hour or 2.
Very interesting history of the the old trains. The model display was very well done. You even have a place to sit and watch the rail yard
Audio tour was confusing, hard to find numbers. Enjoyed the museum overall. The model railroad display was great & so was the guide that told us about it. Would've been nice to have engine on display, instead had to drive to Holliday park to see Big Boy.
Always a good time there for whatever is going on there.
Expected more from the museum provided I had to pay admissions fee. I had a more enjoyable time at the state museum with free admission. Stayed about 5 to 10 mins at most before leaving.
Tickets to the museum are a tad expensive and parking is a pain. But parking being a pain isn't unusual for downtown Cheyenne anyway. Otherwise, very cool to tour around and it's an active rail yard so you will see a few different generations of train. If you have a radio scanner, tune to 160.680Mhz.
Very nice facility. Tons of history and information to read up on regarding the trains. Unfortunately there are relatively no real trains to look at. I was told that UP still owns the round house which is why no one is allowed to go look them. Would have got 5 stars had they actually had trains around to look at.
A great piece of Wyoming history!!
Get your learn on! A full book worth of knowledge and pictures! Great Museum all things railroad!
Remarkable restoration of the original Union Pacific Depot both inside and out. Rich with history and a great museum too.
Super cool museum. The model upstairs is amazing!
Very interesting with model train upstairs
Great selection of exhibits and a wonderful Wild West railroad model layout. 30 years in the construction. Easy armchairs and sofas with a great view of passing trains and the loco yard. Good toilets, a well stocked gift shop, plenty to see and do for a couple of hours.
Great stop to shop for gifts for your family & friends. High quality pottery and many unique items.
Good collection
Beautiful museum with a great viewing platform of the trains coming in! Well worth the $8 entry fee. We loved learning about the depot and reading all the details at the museum. I would highly recommend.
Incredible history and 2nd floor N scale and HO scale layouts, one is an interactive HO scale layout kids can play with
Great town for pictures but this, museum nothing special No trains!
Neat little stop, especially if you like trains.
Great piece of History! Cool museum, brewery in part of it, and it's right on the UP yard across from the steam shop. A train lovers paradise.
Enjoy the historical time line.
My second visit in the past year! Entrance pass is reasonably priced. The MODEL TRSIN EXHIBIT is worth the entire visit! I will be returning with friends that have not experienced this outstanding Rd act.
Interesting if you like model trains.
A great train museum. I was smaller than I had thought and the electric trains were not running. A lot of good information and lot of good displays
Very nice. The employees are quite friendly as well.
if you are walking by it's worth popping into and it a main fixture of downtown as it centers around the depot and this seems to be a major attraction for the area. The entire area/campus is pretty nice with several placards set-up to help inform about the history of the area.
Great place! The train models are amazing!
Was just going to pass time but found it really interesting. If your into history or transportation its a great place to visit.
Interesting history! Tour is well worth it!
Really cool spot to check out if you’re in the area and have the time.
Cool, historic building.
The trolley tour was pretty good!
Great railroad history. Awesome workers there who are more then happy to explain everything
Huge museum with plenty to see! Huge model railroad, great displays, fun gift shop and the train yard right outside the windows for real train action!
The ladies downstairs don't seem to get along.... but the people upstairs did great!
Winters Farmers market First of every month is awesome with local producers
A chance to see animals up close is always neat, and this experience is especially memorable. However, the train conductor's sass was a bit too spicy for me. I get it; the dry wit can be endearing. But, maybe turn it down a couple notches.
This is a wonderfully restored train station with some excellent exhibits on display.
It's a neat place to see Cheyenne history.
Old station that has been remodeled with a museum. There are cowboy boots all around town that are fun to look at!
Could use a facelift, but a nice brewery and food next door and a museum (not free) to walk through.
What great town wanted to stay longer. A lot of History.
I haven't been to the Museum itself, but I've visited the Depot a couple of times. I love the architecture and ambiance of a bygone era. Passenger travel is a thing of the past, but you can still see the massive trains rumbling by.
Nice spot for a Beard Competition!! Can't wait till next years!!
Awesome museum for the train lovers of the world!
I wish I could of see big boy better.
Really cool place the farmers market is nice and they have a Brewery inside too!
Awesome if you are in the area I would definitely recommend stopping and seeing the Cheyenne Museum. The staff was very helpful and informative.
History of trains in Cheyenne area. VERY COOL model train layout upstairs.
Very nice and confortable museum... A lot of interesting items on display and memorabilia of the first transcontinental railroad
Great experience, lots of history and if you love trains this is for you. Kid friendly!
Did a tour that brought us to a museum which was 2 hours long. Was a great experience.
A great place to walk off extra time. . .
Great place to take the family to learn some Cheyenne history
Love the carriage ride in front, must do for here.
Great addition to our town!
It was fine and informative for a quick museum stop.
Love the history
Beautifully keeped piece of time
Great displays for anyone. If you weren't a railway buff going in, you will be on the way out.
Great variety of exhibited to interest different ages and men and women alike. Also offers places to sit and watch films if you want a break. I am not a big fan of museum but go with husband. This one was one of the better ones even if you aren't a big railroad fan.
Love the winter farmers market and the gift shop!
Cute place to go when needing something quick and fun to do. Upstairs is a whole train set up. Really awesome and fun place. Not super kid friendly. The lady that works there got mad because our twins touched the weight thing, no do not touch sign, so we didn't know. But pretty awesome to learn about their trains
Great for events!!
Great history and insight.
We were visiting from Ohio and enjoyed the trolley ride to learn about Cheyenne's history.
Intetactive learning, please check out the second floor and ask where the model came from, you won't believe it. Lots of info on the first floor for train history, also a gift shop.
I have been several times and always enjoy it when I travel from Virginia to Wyoming.
Great history, went for a steam shop tour.
Always learn something new. Very well laid out. Good value for the money.
Great place to learn about early chayenne And the rodeo. You're see many interesting Old time Wagons Surrey's stage coaches and many more interesting things.
The staff is super friendly and the displays are fantastic! I plan on going back with my son when he is older to appreciate all the information he and i can learn.
I love trains, nice museum and model train display, I recommend stopping in.
Excellent museum- pilgrimage spot for steam railfans
A lot of fun.
Lots of fun hunting for all the giant boots hidden around town!
After watching the TV series Hell on Wheels, my husband and I had to stop here to see the real history of this town. Great place to be educated about the Union Pacific Railroad. Great artifacts and information.
When you go to Cheyenne Wyoming, check it out
Great entertainment. Fridays on the plaza.
We loved making a day trip to Cheyenne to visit. This place has a ton of train stuff to check out and it's all showcased so beautifully. My kids loved watching the mini trains race around on the ceiling mounted track. There was a little train they could sit in and a train table to play with. The gift shop had lots of cool stuff to check out too. Upstairs you'll find TONS of model trains going through incredibly detailed model landscapes. It was so cool! Theres also a chance to operate the mini trains as well. The place was super affordable and definitely a fun place to spend an hour or so!
