REVIEWS OF Campbell County Rockpile Museum IN Wyoming

Gary Butler

Wonderful museum with fossils from the area, native artifacts, history of modern settlement, coal mining, oil and gas extraction, animals, wagons and lots more. And it's FREE. You don't always get what you pay for, sometimes you get a lot more. Well worth a visit.

Tamara Taylor North

Good little museum. Lots of stuff to read and look at. There were hands-on displays for the kids scattered throughout the museum. The A/C was wonderful and the gift shop area was adequate. Thus museum relies on donations and has free admission.

Lots to see, nice sized local museum. Found it very interesting, learned a lot. The five stars are even before considering this is free. The Rockpile is a landmark here that early travelers and settlers used to find their way. Very fitting for a museum that highlights the early settlers.

This was out first visit here and I must say I was not expecting what we walked into. We assumed it was a Rock Museum based on the name. This museum has a bit of everything in it. A lot of history of Gillette and how things use to be. There is a small gift shop and some items throughout are "hands on". We really enjoyed walking through and getting a history lesson. Plus it's free.

Not a rock shop as the name suggests. It's a free local history museum.

This place provided an interesting diversion while waiting to have brakes fixed. I was underwhelmed by the approximately 150 slightly varied types of horse bits and lever action rifles, but the old West Town and coal mining exhibits were pretty neat.

John DeLowery

If you like history, this is a fun and interesting museum. Lots of Wyoming memorabilia, as well as recorded letters and pictures of WW II soldiers, a pictorial wall with colorful stories of all the past sheriffs of Gillette. and an area with dinosaur bones and indian artifacts that have been found. Lots of old saddles and wagons of all types on display. They have a train caboose with lots of information inside, 2 early settlement school houses, and a separate building annex where you can view an old blacksmith shop, several old printing presses, and sheep herder wagons. There is lots more to see, and it's free to the public
