It is an overall history museum of the era, more than just about the fire. It is still interesting to learn about what happened and what life was like.

Dale Halink

Really enjoyed the history of the museum and cemetary. Ladies at entrance gave a history and answered questions and indicated that they were not guides. I really enjoyed the stories of the surivors and the tabernacle. Books were available for purchase for further information and stories. The additional museum in basement was appreciated.

Michael Crowley

Was really hoping this was going to be more than it was. Very little actual artifacts from the fire or things about the fire. It should actually be called the Peshtigo history Museum. We actually found the cemetery with nice historical signs much more interesting. For such a major event in history this deserves a better representation of the tragedy that took place. Peshtigo is missing out on an opportunity to capitalize on this and should consider investing in redoing this museum. By all means still stop and check the museum out and pay tribute to those who lost their lives in this fire. The cemetery is located on the same grounds.

Amazing museum! The staff was amazing and so knowledgable. They gave a private tour and it is free to go to(donations are welcome, and I highly recommend donating to such a great museum). Will defienently go back in the future.

Joanne Breitenstein

Very interesting and sad.

Sarah Lederer

The price is right. It’s an interesting collection of stuff. More of a museum of stuff from town than a museum of the fire.

Bic Parker

Very knowledgeable docents give a dramatic introduction about the fire then let you roam about on your own.

Joe Hameister

Very little of the museum is devoted to the fire. Most of it is just a collection of antiques from local people. Ladies working there were quite good in terms of describing the fire.

Sabrina Shaffer

A volunteer tour full of information

Carol Geiger

We'll I like this place but I'm fascinated by the Peshtigo fire which took place the same day as the Chicago fire but burned far more acreage and killed many more people. There's a case or two of fire artifacts and the rest is a historical museum for the area. The people that work there are knowledgeable about the fire and eager to share

It was definitely an interesting stop but nothing what it had been made out to be by others. I think Peshtigo Fire Museum is a bit of a inaccurate name as its more of a Peshtigo area History Museum as only 3 display cases had anything to do with the actual fire. Same can be said for the cemetery, a very small number of marked graves of fire victims and most being identified as a mass grave. I will say I was very impressed with the tour/history given by Paige; she was very polite and knowledgeable of the areas past.

Michael DeLain

Good little museum. Based on the horrific fire.

The exhibit is well done. Volunteers are great storytellers.

This is a great musium discussing the Peshtigo fire which claimed more lives than the Chicago fire. Besides the history of the fire, this musium has interesting historical objects used in everyday life in the 1800s such as railroad lanterns, switches, and signals. Also kitchen, school, and general store supplies. They have a neat collection of handmade blankets and spectacles. The Peshtigo fire musium is a must see for any traveler! *museum close to highway

Wow! The volunteer who told us the story of the Peshtigo Fire was amazing. She is so full of wealth in knowledge, it was truly an honor to learn from her. The museum itself is very interesting, it is free, but we did give a donation. Please consider donating if you visit this place, it truly is a treasure. Did you know the Peshtigo Fire and the Chicago Fire were on the same night?! Visit for a lot more cool facts.

No handicap accessibility. Everything you always wanted to know about the Peshtigo fire is explained by knowledgable staff who provide information that helps you understand why such devastation resulted.

Michele Jackett

A great piece of history! Volunteers were wonderful & helpful!

John Henneman

Amazing. Go and see it if you are in the area, you won't forget it.

Barb Higgins

It was great to learn more about the Peshtigo Fire and see a few artifacts that were saved as well as learn some moving stories. Personally I wasn't as interested in the period pieces that were there - and that was the VAST majority of the museum - but I'm sure others would be. That's the beauty of this place - to see what directly pertained to the fire didn't take that long - but if you wanted to stay for hours, you could. We didn't spend much time in the cemetery because they were waiting to lock the gate - I would've liked to have explored more out there - but we did see the mass grave. My only complaint would be their hours - closing at 4p on a Saturday in the summer was nuts, especially when there were probably 10-15 people there. And we got lucky that we even got in the cemetery - I heard others express interest in going in but were turned away because they were closing. I understand it's run by volunteers but I thought it was a bit rude to chase folks away. Especially when they rely on donations ...

Lots of cool stuff but not so much of period pieces actually from Peshtego (of course not, the town was totally destroyed). The history of the fire is fascinating, particularly if you've been to the Hinkley fire museum.

Twyla Koch

Julie Klotz

Very nice educational place. Not for young kids.

Andrew Niesz

Alot of history on the people who lived there and the fire

Amanda G

OMG so sad but a must see. The knowledge of the people there! All of the information about the fire, the people, the area! If you dint like dolls just avoid the doll room like me ;) but in all seriousness you should make it a point to stop in and learn!

Vic

Lawrence Grinnell

Fascinating collection of old stuff, but not too well organized.

I was at the Peshtigo fire Museum about 18 years ago! It was a great learning experience for my children at that point. I wanted to come back and maybe Refresh on a few things! It is a great place to visit.
