REVIEWS OF National Mustard Museum IN Wisconsin

This place is awesome! If you think mustard comes in a yellow plastic squeeze bottles and all tastes the same - then you need to come here. Downstairs is a museum (free) that has everything mustard. Paraphernalia, promo items, advertisements, and yes mustard - shelf after shelf of mustards from all over the world. Main floor is a shop where you can try 100+ of various mustards and buy them too. From plain to exotic, mild to hot. Hint, the blue cheese mustard is amazing. Definitely worth a stop.

A place full of happiness.. If you don't like mustard, visit here, if you LOVE mustard, visit here.!!!

malvika dayal

An interesting place for all mustard lovers . Could not believe that there is a museum for mustard and just had to visit to see what it was about . The museum is located in the lower floor and here one can find a display of almost 6000 types of mustard from all around the country. Walking around the hall you could learn a little bit about the history. For fun there is also a hoopla counter where you could win yourself a bottle by throwing a ring around any bottle . On the 1st floor as you enter you will find the tasting counters where you are free to taste the different varieties available. From beer mustard to jalapeno and many more, you can surely find one that suits your taste. A fun experience.

Michael Paulson

Awesome place! Free tastings of all kinds of mustard they sell, and the actual museum (located downstairs) was both fun-spirited and interesting.

Joanne Christensen

Lots of different kinds of mustard!

Kelly R

The best thing about this place, aside from the mustard, is the staff! Their knowledge of mustard made choices easy and they're wonderful to talk with. Don't change!!

Lindsey Aurand

So fun! You can sample any mustard they have and they're all delicious!

Michelle Hagar

This place was great if you are a mustard enthusiast! Lots of samples and if you need more all you have to do is ask! They even have hot dogs for $1 and will put whatever mustard on it that you want! There is an entire mustard Museum downstairs that is full of interesting mustard facts! Great place to visit and it was FREE ... but you won't leave without spending a little on at least one jar of your new favorite mustard!!

April Brown

If you love mustard you must visit this place. I never knew there were so many kinds of mustard.

Eugene Howell

From out of state, visit the Madison area a couple of times a year. Never been to Mustard Museum before. Spent over an hour walking around. Very friendly staff, interesting exhibits and displays, and a vast amount of mustards to taste. Picked up a couple items and mustards from the gift shop. Had a very enjoyable experience, will probably stop there again in the future.

Francine Barchett

It's not everyday that a museum entertains me. This one did that, plus brought my tastebuds to a state of mustard ecstasy! Try any of the 650 flavors of mustard at the mustard tasting bar...or watch the short mustard film. Definitely a must-visit if you're in the Madison area!

Jena Oestreich

Very friendly staff! Love the samples

Cosmo Orbitson

Never have I loved mustard so much.

John Langteau

A very nice self guided tour, short and concise. Do not leave without trying the tasting opportunities, too many to name. If you like mustard, do not miss this.

Who knew there were SO many options for mustards, and they even had samples of around 176 of them. The staff was very knowledgeable and made it a great, fun experience.

Rebekah Thompson

Lady said over 400 different kinds of mustard in stock and tons to try. Loved going through the museum and shop. Definitely recommend if you like mustard even in the slightest

Adam Buckingham

It's a fun diversion to look around the exhibits. The store has great selections with samples of mustards from around the world.

Jon Windau

The Mustard Museum is a must stop. Dozens upon dozens of different mustards available to purchase, and you can sample whatever you want. The amount of different mustards they have in the museum from all over the world is amazing.

Susan S.

I have hated mustard my whole life, but the mustard museum has finally changed my mind. It sounds so weird, but it is legitimately fun to go sample weird mustards and check out the museum downstairs. And you can actually sample any mustard they have in the shop! The annual mustard day celebration is worth going to. The mustard also makes for a great gift for out-of-towners - I got my father in law some for Christmas and the whole family was fawning over it at dinner with the Christmas ham. Easily 5 stars.

Taras Alexandrovich

Really cool place. Nicely organized with lots of funny installations and little historical notes. Great gift shop with amazing variety of mustards. Be prepared to buy some.

Steve Williams

Mustards from around the world.

Caitlin M

Amazing. This small museum has interesting exhibits. It features a variety of mustard containers from around the world. Some if the displays highlight the history of mustard. The have a nice video as well. The store sells a plethora of mustard, well organized by type and flavor. The have numerous sample out to try, as well as a sample bar where you can request a sample of any flavor which the store sells. The employees were helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable. Highly recommended!

András Tasi

must see, really good roadside attraction, tons of mustards to try, the smokey habanero is gold!

Jacky Hieken

Honestly so much better than I would have thought! The folks working there are amazing and extremely helpful. Prices are reasonable and you can sample almost anything! Definitely worth the trip.

De T

What a wacky place! Loved every minute of the 2 hours there. Hundreds of mustards to taste and buy. Games, shirts, and more. They are definitely "all in" to all things mustard. I know it sounds like a yawn, but it really is worth the trip if you are in the area.

Jackie Lynn

If you are in Madison, WI, this is a fun stop. I learned a lot about mustard and tried several kinds that were unique and delicious. Be sure to go downstairs and watch the short video.

Michael Shimoff

Great place to go. Mustard gets a bad rep for mustard gas. If you go, you will relish the experience. You'll get condiments for your pics. If not, you'll be playing ketchup with all your friends who did go.

Jessica Pairrett

Interesting Mustard Facts & Flavors! The National Mustard Museum is a unique, quirky place to learn fun facts about mustard, see mustard varieties from around the country and some other countries. "Classic" paintings feature mustard bottles and have humorous signs to read about their "history." You can also taste any of the 400 varieties they have for purchase. Just ask!

Shay

I had Soo much fun here. Right when you walk in there's many kinds of mustard you can taste. When you go down stairs that's where the fun begin. I don't really like mustard but I still enjoyed myself. My family also enjoyed it, theres a little bit of something for everyone. This place is great for all ages. If you're looking for some fun and something free, I would recommend this place.

Andrew French

Pretty cool! Turing a man's hobby/obsession into a museum. Who knew there were so many varieties, and brands!

Giselbert Parkhurst

We stopped at the National Mustard Museum on a trip back from Madison and it did not disappoint. Not only were there plentiful mustard samples of all kinds, there was tons of mustard memorabilia. The museum is free, and you probably do not need more than 20-30 minutes to view everything and try some samples.

Dark Lord Sy'rathuss

You will learn things about mustard that you never knew. Also, try the different mustards at the back of the building. Friendly staff.

Joanna Finkelstein

Neat Museum! So many mustards to look at ... and you can guess what they sell in the gift shop

Tim Harry

Has about as much info as you'd expect. Super friendly staff, TONS of mustard options

Phillip Kolter

The Mustard Museum in Middleton, Wisconsin was a unique experience in viewing and purchasing a wide variety of different types of mustards from across the world. There's no admission fee, but they do have a donations jar once you enter the museum downstairs.

Zach Feig

Really fun and plenty silly. The mustard is tasty and the gift shop is loaded with treasures

Paul Norris

Quick and easy to get in and out parking is abundant. Samples are numerous and enjoyable.

Michael Ringold

We went because we thought it'd be funny, and it was, but we also didn't expect there to really, seriously be the same sort of depth and variety to mustard as there is to, say, cheese or wine. We left with a bag of different mustards for gifts. I'd definitely come back.

Greg Fredericks

A very fun and unique place, even for kids.

Leonard Bowman

Definitely an attraction that punches above its weight. The museum is slightly lacking by normal standards but there's enough to be interesting and take 20 minutes touring the basement. The real magic is the main floor where you can taste (and purchase) the most amazing mustards from all over the world. I really wish I could justify 5 stars but either they need to beef up the museum part or rename it the International Mustard Market. As a bonus, the mustards cost less than you would expect for a tourist spot so you should easily be able to afford 3-5 that excite your taste buds.

C. Olson

My kind of place!! So many mustards to choose from! Good place for the whole family, big enough to spend an hour or two and easy for a quick stop for a gift!

Krystine K

Even if you don't like mustard you should visit this museum at least once. You will definitely learn more about mustard than anyone needs to know. It is done in a fun way. If you like mustard they let you sample every kind they sell and there is a lot. They also have a good selection of fun souvenirs and gifts. I would give 5 stars but I despise mustard.

Leo Johansson

If you like mustard this is the place for you. The museum part shows a countless variety of mustards from around the world. The gift shop/tasting area also offers a huge selection of mustards, and the nice thing is that you may taste any of them if you like.

Katie McLaughlin

This is such a fun museum, and the gift shop is awesome! I've never been a fan of mustard, but ended up buying a couple of flavors that are now part of my "go to" menu....very yummy! I love that they have so many mustards out for us to sample. And did I mention the gift shop? So great!! Seriously, go visit this place, it's amazing!

Jacob Rogers

Great selection and super helpful staff.

Becca Brown

If you love mustard this is the place for you. They had a free self guided tour in the basement and a movie. While on the main floor there's a tasting bar. I personally loved the selections of mustards I could buy there everything from Carmel mustard to Dill mustard and everything in between.

Nick Macholz

An excellent experience. I've never seen so much mustard in my life.

Dances Shaw

Staff was very nice and accommodating! The museum was actually quite cute and all the mustard we got to sample were so cool! Everything you can think surrounding mustard is there and we also have a mustard themed game!

Louis Guzzo

Fun and puns. Great variety of mustard and good customer service.

Andrew Adams

The perfect place for an inexpensive family outing. They have everything from habanero to cognac to chocolate mustards (and plenty of less exotic varieties), and you can sample anything in the store! The basement has mustard history, and some fun activities for the young-at-heart. If you like mustard at all, check it out.

Oak Miller

Worth a visit if you like mustard

Karl Ritchey

A fun and informative diversion...Worth a stop.

Darek Whiting

Just a great little museum it amazing how much knowledge they have about different mustards. The gift/mustard shop has a unbelievable amount of mustards to try before you puchase.

Eric Heltzel

I don’t know what I expected of this place. It’s a mustard store with some simple exhibits (in need of an update) downstairs. I guess I can appreciate the effort put into collecting all of the mustard containers. And the free samples were nice. I was really torn on whether to give this 3 stars or 4 stars. I feel that 3 stars as a “museum” would be appropriate, but I’m giving it 4 stars as a “mustard store with a tasting room.”

Sam Zarov

Wish there was more mustard but still good

Tiegan Cunningham

What a fun place! And a wonderful selection of mustards to try and bring home to the kids.

Becky Butler

Love this place! Mustard for every taste! And today we ate mustard custard!!

Ricky Saam

Apoorva Gupta

It was great experience. We had never thought there could be a mustard museum. We are not Ghat found of mustard sauce. But We got to taste so many types of mustards. And got back 4 of them. Glad we went there.

Ross Higa

Lots and lots and lots of mustard!!! The staff was excellent! The tasting was the best part. Had me walking out with 6 jars of mustard. The clerk (I did not catch her name, young with long black hair) was knowledgeable and extremely helpful. The museum was very fun and whimsical, as well as informative. I do not believe that I could recommend this place enough. VISIT HERE!

Don H

A must see for anyone visiting. You will have to try some of the unique mustards.

Brittani Anzovino

So great! Such friendly and helpful staff! Museum was really cool, got to see so many different types of Mustard. You can win a bottle of Mustard as well by playing ring toss. Also lots of free, yummy, samples. You can even get a hot pretzel.

Michael Riess

This is a very cool place. The museam itself is rather small but they let you try all kinds of different flavors of mustard from many different countries. The staff is also very helpful and friendly. Though you may not spend tons of time here you should stop by and see what they have to offer.

jairaj swann

Really enjoyed their selection of mustards. Great staff, super knowledgeable and you can try any of the mustard they have on display.

Ashley Graf

I loved this place, I went a few days ago and absolutely loved it. They have any kind of mustard you could imagine with free samples. Downstairs there is history of mustard, you can play ringtoss for a dollar and possibly win a bottle of mustard with it. If you want to learn about mustard this is the place to go.

Laura Funk

This is a great kitschy activity to do with people of all ages. We came here to kill time during a thunderstorm. They have a lot of mustard "antiques" in the basement that make for an entertaining few minutes. You can sample every mustard that they sell at the tasting bar upstairs and they also sell pretzels and hot dogs. The people working there all actually seemed interested in mustard and they had opinions on which mustards cut the mustard (heh).

Andrew Woodworth

The man giving the samples sure knows his stuff! We had a great time here. They truly have something for everyone.

Gary Roth

It is more of a mustard jar(container) collection. Good parking and the diner next door smelled great. But I already had breakfast.

Hannah Pate

The mustard museum was and interesting experience. It is oddly Canada centric, but not like in a bad way. The mustard tasting is pretty cool. And the sheer amount of mustard they have is impressive. It's good for killing about an hour or so. 7/10, thoroughly enjoyed but probably would not mustard again.

Mary Fauble

Large variety of mustards from all over. You can taste mustards before you purchase.

Barbara Schikore

What a surprisingly interesting place! Thousands of different mustards! Also a movie showing how mustard is made. Not as easy as one might think! Fun day. Lots of samples with soft pretzels.

Amy D

Love that its free and you can sample the mustard before buying it!

Nicholas Downham

We love the museum! I went several years ago and it is still just as fun today. We picked up several jars to take home as souvenirs for friends and family. Stop by and say hello to the friendly staff.

Daniel Volk

Lots of mustard. Taste the difference.

scott besemer

We go to Madison every year from MI and this quirky little museum/mustard store has become a annual event. Even if you find mustard boring you'll find it fun here!

Kat McPhail

Such an amazing spot. The staff are incredibly friendly and the museum has a lot to offer. We tired several flavors and the woman assisting us helped us make a decision about the final choice. We had a great time and will definitely be back if we're in the area!

Sie Sar

Super cool concept. Unique concoctions that work well. Its great that there are samples here.

Amanda Black

Loved it here. I was greeted by a friendly person as soon as I walked in. She told me about the exhibits and the gift shop. I went downstairs after using the elevator. The exhibits are neat. Lots of mustards and serving stuff. There's even a mustard vending machine and Mustardpiece Theatre. Don't miss the tasting back upstairs in the gift shop. Loved the cherry mustard and the chance to go shopping afterward.

Mark Beebe

A testament that you can have a museum about really anything. The tastings available were nice, however, it would be nice if they had a few more. If you are into mustard at all, this should scratch that itch.

Matt Heath

Fun, tongue in cheek place.

Helio Veiga Junior

If you love mustard and history, it’s the place for you. Super friendly staff. The products run a little bit expensive, but it is worth the price because of their quality.

Mark Chester

Priced right, Great Food, Great Value!

Val Johnson

Worth the stop. Fun place. Superb products.

Tom Kuehnel

Never planned on visiting the National Mustard Museum... of course that’s in part due to not knowing it existed. Happened to have breakfast at the neighboring diner and couldn’t help but notice the National Mustard Museum. So glad we stopped in, although I never considered myself a mustard aficionado, this is a must see if you have about 15-30 minutes to explore the museum and store. Their displays are unique, informative and in many cases very punny

batmanAMA

Great selection of fun with a lot of mustard history in the actual museum. Recommended for anyone, can open your eyes to alternate mustard varieties you may have never heard of.

M. E. L.

Who'd a thunk. Mustard museum. Interesting.

mitchell schwister

If you like mustard, this is definitely the place for you. They have so many great mustards. I recommend the Kelly's gourmet mustard.

What a wacky, surprisingly interesting place. Half museum, half store. In a great little downtown full of good restaurants and bars. Mustard flavors I never would have imagined, all available to purchase. History and information presented tongue in cheek. Employees are wonderfully passionate. Great place to chill out in between main events. The selection is amazing and lots of free samples. I love the Wisconsin options, great for gifts. The staff is kind and helpful.

Lew Phinney

Interesting! Great samples. Wonderful tastes

Christina Gibbs

Where else can you see 6,000 kinds of mustard? The collection is downstairs, along with various signs, mustard memorabilia, a quiz machine, and mustard pots. Don't miss the excellent video about mustard history. Upstairs in the shop you can taste and buy hundreds of kinds of mustard. A lot of fun!

Lance

If you love mustard, you will love this place. They are amazing and give so many free samples for you to try. The history is great.

Kenneth Beynon

This place is a gem. It's both a museum and a mustard store. They will let you try every single mustard in the place, and there are hundreds. I also like the fact that the museum, itself, is free. You can make a donation, if you feel like it. We wound up buying a maple peppercorn mustard and a dill pickle mustard, both of which were delicious. If you like mustard, even a little bit, this place is a must!

Jen Snow

Small, but interesting and informative. Fun deciding what mustard to take home.

Zsuzsa Kocsis

Fun little museum with lots of relics. There is a shop inside that has over 400 types of mustard that you can sample and buy!

I was able to run through the the museum portion and sample a few things within a half hour. It was still well worth a visit even if you're short on time!

Carrie Loffredo

Fun little museum & store to visit. Had a hard time trying to decide which mustard to buy because I wanted one of everything. Very nice staff, and awesome that you can sample so many things.

Jose Smith

What an interesting and informative experience. A must for dorky spam type lovers who are always looking for the hidden American glitz in our culture. You have to watch the movie in the museum just to say you did it. Couldn't leave without seven of the 500 mustards they have.

Joel S

Great if you love mustard. Free admission and you can sample any of their vast selection of mustards. If you hate mustard this place might give you nightmares.

Michael Brissie

Wonderful little place. Knowledgeable and passionate staff, free samples of any mustard you'd like to try at the mustard bar, and an overwhelming selection of mustards and sauces. Shipping right from the store is super convenient and makes for excellent gifts. My favorite mustard is the balsamic garlic! It has a bit of bite and a really nice flavor. The basement holds an impressive collection of mustards on display, a lot of history, and some funny artwork. We've been going twice a year and it's always fun to see.

Chris Brandt

Stef

What a gem! Loved sampling all the mustard. The staff is so helpful in finding an interesting mustard to suit you. I ended up with a delicious beer mustard and spicy chipotle. Love this place!

Sharon Nerad

Museum has a free parking lot and street parking. Lovely fountain outside. Nice community. Inside you'll find one of the best gift shops. Lots of kitchen fun! There is a tasting station of mustards of your choice. Soft hot pretzels can be purchased also. Downstairs is the museum. You will find a mustard history movie running. A mustard vending machine. Displays of mustard jars from all over the world. Fancy mustard pots also on display. The museum gets only a four star rating for not making the museum wheelchair accessible. You should be able to see it all in hour. Museum is free but takes donations.

Gregory Brennum

Great selection of all different kinds of mustard! Definitely worth 30 minutes to stop in there and sample some mustards.

Kelly Dahle

an amazing place. learned a lot of things about mustard and tried them too.

Randy Foege

I don't eat mustard, ever. Can't understand why anyone else would either, but this place is really fun. With a zero admission fee, it's hard to not want to go in. I would say that I found it to be the COMPLETE mustard place but they have SO MUCH STUFF that it opens the door to the possibility that there might actually be something that ISN't there. My beautiful wife bought mustard here (I bought some great birthday cards) and then she tried to get me to taste it. Thanks but no thanks. I'm Glad it made her happy.

Steve Davis

If you want to buy mustard, it's okay. The museum can be gone through in about 15 minutes.

Ryan Ballantyne

The museum itself doesn't have much to it, but the store is worth browsing. They let you sample many different types of mustard.

Seamo Sho

Small than I expected but it was interesting. You can taste and buy tons of kinds of mustards!!

Daniel Felizardo

The mustard museum is a very unique experience. You can purchase all sorts of mustards that you could not even imagine. If you head downstairs you get to see an eclectic collection of mustards the world over. Mustards from each state, many countries, and further mustard memorabilia. A very funny and tasty spot. Definitely a place you should visit if in Wisconsin with an hour or two to spare.

Emily Boise

awesome place and you can sample everything!

Still fun, but I liked it better when it was in Mount Horeb. It lost its charm in the new location.

Patrick Connelly

Never knew that it existed.... Awesome place to purchase mustard, all kinds of variety

It was interesting to see all of the varieties of mustard and history. I loved the samples!!

Such a fun, unexpected experience. Really, we had very low expectations going in, but were surprised by the detailed museum, tasting options, and reasonable prices. The mannequin was a little creepy, but overall enjoyed the quirkiness of the museum. The staff was very welcoming and helpful.
